Think we can get Tuesday's show moved to 9:00 so you can be here from the beginning? Or is that asking too much?

Actually it's a 12 minute show and 48 minutes of commercials - This show must set the record for most commercials

Spending some time on the eye roll debate.

Showing other footage of what was at the judging table that shows he was talking to Paula while Chris did the shout out.

I believe Simon here. He feels gutted about the whole thing. His voice absolutely cracked during his apology.

Agreed. The only crime Simon's guilty of here is his standard one: failure to listen to anyone except himself.

Anyone an expert in body language here? Simon kept looking down and away which is a liar's sign--especially when he had to cop to it. I wish I had last night's show still-my dvr seems to have eaten it or something.

If it were Randy who was in question I would believe him very readily. But Simon is such an @$$...

... I still had it, and I played it back this morning.

it's true, he really was talking to Paula, the timing works.

I'd love to hear the tapes of what they say during all the performances. now that we know they have it. Half the time I bet it has nothing to do with the music.

did you see though that they blanked out part of what Simon said? you can hear it, then it's silent, then you hear him again.

a couple of the Fox tv news guys here from Phoenix went to Tuesdays show. They said that during each commercial break all 3 judges and Ryan are gone. Then, right before they come back on the air, they come running in. They said that one time the judges weren't back yet, so someone announced to the crowd: "They aren't back yet, so just keep clapping until they get here..."

I too am interested in what goes on "behind the scenes"...

I believe it also, I am glad they had the tape to prove it. AI has its problems, but they didn't need this one.

I am so glad you heard his voice crack too, I brought that to my husband's attention, but he didn't catch it.

Yes and they even proved it with the double screen. He was rolling his eyes at "nasal as a singing form". And I was too. I did not even hear Chris say that about VTech...and it was even really difficult to hear when they replayed it last nite.

Simon showed a lot of class there but Ryan was right it was bc of his failure to listen

ETA: zazzy I think the look SImon gave at CHris on Tues was disgust and unbelievability...we've seen that OH SO many times...but if you look at how Chris reacted to apology, I thought he could have been more accepting, he had like a "yeah, okay whatever, look on his face last nite, imho.

Vibe in Hollywood series. Man on the street stuff.

Blake getting some props, Melinda as well.
Hippy shimmies, I think he wants Lakisha to do more of that. I'm not sure shimmying with that body shape is wise.
Some props for Jordin, then asking about Chris. Hippy wants Chris to smolder.
Some talk about Sanjaya.

Posted by Snidget on 04-18-07 at 09:24 PM
We divide into groups

Sanjaya to the right
Phil to the left
Jordin to the left with Phil
Lakisha to the right with Sanjaya
Blake join Lakisha and Sanjaya
Chris Join Phil and Jordin.

Melinda left (going to do the guess the group thing?)

Has her look at the Sanjaya group with the judges comments.
Now at Phil's group. Goes over the judges comments.

Melinda, they loved you too, you are safe. Damn she looked worried. Now she needs to pick the group that is also safe.

Think about it. Look at the two groups, and make a choice. Which is the highest and swhich is the bottom three.

She sits down in the middle of the stage. The crowd goes nuts.

Slide to your left to the Phil group. That group is safe and back next week.

They always have before, every season.

Antonella and then Sundance were their picks before Sanjaya.

The only question is who is their next pick.

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by Fishercat on 04-18-07 at 09:54 PM
VFTW hasn't quit yet when their person is voted out at this stage (Pickler at F6 last year). Sanjaya is their biggest success yet.

Phil is their best choice, but he is just creepy and could be a good country artist. No one's a good choice because they're pimped (Melinda, Jordin, Lakisha, Chris), good (Blake, Melinda, Jordin), and/or have a niche (Phil, Blake).

My guess is Phil, although if I were them, I'd take a week off. No need to contribute to the circle jerk that is IGB

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by AyaK on 04-18-07 at 11:23 PM
If I were in charge of VFTW, I'd take Chris.

Because he is far and away the worst of the peeps left. And yet he was safe after that wretched performance last night, so he'll still be good for a few more weeks.

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by agman on 04-18-07 at 11:34 PM
I actually thought he would go rather than Sanjaya. He was really that bad IMO. I agree, I think Chris will get the vote now.

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by Fishercat on 04-19-07 at 00:27 AM
True, it's between those two. I think that Dave may go with Chris, I've heard arguments that almost turned me. I still think Phil is the right choice in terms of what VFTW is about

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by priestdi on 04-19-07 at 12:01 PM

they'll pick someone with a fan base, I'm pretty sure it will be Chris with his boy-band looks and pop-style voice.

then when he doesn't get kicked for a while they can claim credit.

if they pick Phil, and he goes, they'll look powerless. like last night. can't have that happen.

like picking Taylor last year, like he was the worst. lol.

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by Fishercat on 04-19-07 at 12:51 PM
LAST EDITED ON 04-19-07 AT 01:05 PM (EST)

Taylor was less vocally talented than Kat or Eliott last year, that's a gimme. He was less pimped than Daughtry. That leaves him or Paris and they chose the guy who danced horribly, who Simon clearly disliked, and (for good reason, look at the sales) who the producers didn't want to win. It was a pretty easy choice until it go down to Princess P or Taylor. Plus, Taylor and his fans seemed to "get it".

Oh, and the owner of the site said he's leaning toward Phil with 50+% of the votes going towards Phil. And most people know that the power for VFTW is limited at this point and doesn't compare to the core voting blocs of other groups, they can't (nor could they ever) save a hopeless contestant, but they can be the final weight to push a Phil from 6th to 5th, for instance.

"RE: And the fans..."
Posted by priestdi on 04-19-07 at 08:38 PM
that's interesting, thanks. I haven't gone over to look in a while.

the thing about Taylor, he had a charisma, a charm, offered something different than all the others. So he had a very real fan base. It's NOT just about the voice, as even Simon knows. lol.

Like I loved Blake, back when he was different. It's not his voice, it's who he is. And he sure needs to show that again. wow but he's stuffed it lately.

Is everyone sick of me saying that yet? hah.

>cheer like that about someone
>going home...

While I'm estatic he's gone, I wonder what he will sound like when he's in his mid twenties and his voice has had more time to mature. He might shock the hell out of me!(that's a scary thought)

I normally hate the damn results show, but I was going to watch to listen to my girl Martina sing. But then it gave me two awesome moments tonight.

In chronological order...
1. Melinda sitting down on the stage. Ryan had no freakin' clue what to do.
2. Finally, those wonderful words: Sanjaya, you are going home tonight.

Finally, something happened this week that makes sense.

Hi

I'm new around here. Never posted in the AI ECST.

Just wondering if anyone can explain why my AI-loving, Sanjaya-hating wife is singing and dancing around the house.

I had best go check on her...she is so happy I might get lucky tonight! (and then Sanjaya won't have been such a waste, eh?)

LOL.

Trust me.

Yours is not the only house infected with the happy dance.

#1 - America got it right (except for Blake in the bottom 3)

and

#2 - DialIdol's rankings for bang-on for the first time

Bye, Sanjaya, we'll miss you on several levels.

Well, if the TLJ (Larry's) theory is working this year then Phil or Chris would go next week since their fan bases rallied this week and kept them safe.

I think Blake's fan base will start dialing more, now that they have had a scare.

Don't know about Lakisha--will her fan base rally, too?

Next week I will guess that Melinda, Jordin and Blake will be safe and Lakisha, Chris and Phil will be in the bottom 3 with....Chris leaving. The country fan has awakened and Phil is getting new support imo.

Where do you think Sanjaya's fan base will lean now. Assuming they will continue to vote????? I have no clue who they might like now...

Good question. Forgot to consider that. The teen girls will shift to Jordin, Chris, possibly Blake. VFTW will probably pick Chris or Phil. Howard Stern looks for a new gimmick.
OK, now we need performances to guide us. I just think Chris will do the least well next week. Phil can sing a country song, the divas will diva it out, I expect good things from Blake...

I agree, I think Chris's days are numbered. Of course now that Chris seems to be the most vulnerable, he may get Howard Stern and VFTW pulling for him. Do you happen to know what the theme for next week is?

Inspirational songs. Jordin is supposedly singing 'I will always love you" accapella.

She has a great opportunity to really define herself next week! I think she might do very well. I wonder what chris will sing?

That might be the first time ever that I got the bottom three and the boot right.

I was totally repulsed by the audience's lack of respect when they announced that Sanjaya was voted off. It was disgusting.

The Lakisha/Sanjaya hug was so sweet.

Loved Melinda sitting on the stage.

Chris appears to be a really good hugger.

so was I glowie...remember he is just 17 (we are smacked over the head with that re: Jordin blech)

I think his reaction was sincere...he realizes that VFTW helped him make the tour and F7 but he just got eliminated....

I was also very disgusted by SImon's smirky grin when Ryan asked the judges about it...

I think Chris will probably be VFTW new choice and those Sanjaya voters will go there...VFTW says they will pick on Friday and wants feedback.

If Chris does get the nod from Dave D, then Lakisha is in trouble bc I know for darn sure that I'm voting for Blake more next week...and I think country fans and Marines will help Phil to get to F5 with Chris going at F4 if he becomes VFTW...

tribey is my American Idol!

of the applause was actually for Lakisha. The fact that she was safe. *shrug* They did show her family and friends right at that point and they all had their mouths wide open.

I know you're probably right. It was just sad to see his sweet little face go And like SilverStar said, maybe some of it was supportive applause. But still... it was SO loud.

Yes it was loud, but so is Lakisha. *giggle*

ah yes, another good point. *grin*

Do you think her tears were for Sanjaya or was she overjoyed to not be eliminated?

Both. Of the divas I'm hoping she's the next to go.

I just have to say that I enjoyed both Fergie and Martina's performances. My dd has Fergie's latest cd and we have Martina's greatest hits. I think we'll be getting Martina's lastest. I thought both did a fantastic job last night!!!

"The Fine Print "
Posted by curveball on 04-19-07 at 03:37 PM
I heard about Sanjaya going before I watched, so I was already skeptical. He hasn't been in the bottom three since F12, and at F9 he was in the middle 3 (4th, 5th or 6th place) and I just don't think he is getting any fewer votes each week. I think the same number of people vote for pretty much the same number of times for him. I figured as each contestant dropped off, their votes would be divided between some of the other remaining ones, and eventually the final 4/5/6 candidates would have more votes than him, but I expected him to drop to the bottom 3 and be safe for a week or two first.

So I watched the results show with a skeptical view. (Yes, he is the worst, needs to go, etc., however I don't think his voting posse would just stop voting for him - like what happened to Blake perhaps.)

We dvr'd the show, so after watching his goodbye song, the dvr stopped - it takes a few seconds to reset to live tv, and during those few seconds, the frame on the screen was the "fine print" that reads "portions of this show have been eliminated that did not change the outcome..." After that initial line, there was 3 or 4 more lines that read something like, "the producers reserve the right to eliminate any votes cast for contestants that appear to have been made by automated dialers."

So it got me thinking, is this disclaimer always there? When do the producers implement this? How do they know which votes were auto-dialers? Our news in Phoenix ran a story about a guy who voted 705 times for Sanjaya using a dialer, so I'm sure his votes didn't count. Did they just decide that anyone who voted more than x times was using a dialer? Anyway, made me suspicious. If they take out all the people who voted more than 200 times, say, I bet that is most of Sanjayas votes.

Thoughts anyone?

"RE: The Fine Print "
Posted by priestdi on 04-19-07 at 03:46 PM
I can't speak for their technology, but I've heard they can distinguish between people who vote 200 times and people who use auto-dialers.

I predicted this week, for the first time yet all season, that Sanjaya would be in the bottom 3. And it was entirely because DialIdol had him at the bottom for the first time ever. Blake too, for the first time ever.

DialIdol bases its data on a mix of busy signals and votes cast on their technology, right? so it wouldn't be impacted by votes that are cast but not counted.

My only theory to explain it is maybe the Howard Stern type voters got jazzed about it for a week or two but then got bored and didn't keep it up.

I doubt that Haley's votes made a difference.

Can't explain where Blake's votes disappeared to either.

I'm in Seattle, and I hit the phones bigtime around 10:30 when I saw Blake was in trouble. And I didn't hit one single busy, it was CREEPY. because previous weeks it was hard to vote for him.

Being able to get through easily, escpially without getting any busy signals isn't a good sign. I was able to cast five votes for Lakisha, in rapid succesion. Same for Melinda. I also voted five times for Jordin, getting a busy signal once. That's why I was afraid Lakisha would be in the Bottom Three. I'm just glad it wasn't the Bottom One! It was past time for Sanjaya to land there. and, I'm thankful he did. Now, bring on the real competition among real singers!

"RE: The Fine Print "
Posted by YankeeDixieDoodle on 04-19-07 at 05:06 PM
I've never noticed that fine print. But, I usually quit watching once the bootee is revealed. If the fine print is a brand new thing, maybe the producers just recently obtained the technology to detect auto-dialed votes. But, I'm not sure that auto-dialing accounted for Sanjaya staying in the comptetion for six weeks. How many young Sanjaymaniacs would have acccess to auto-dialers? I suspect they text-messaged their votes. And, the same text message can be sent countless times without rewriting it, running up their parents' cell phone bills. What accounted for last night's results? Parents taking their daughters' cell phone privileges away?
