"Forever Edens Target Audience"

My son says that Forever Eden is Reality TV for people with ADD. Every two minutes the producers need to remind us what happened two minutes ago, in case we forgot.

I say it's Reality TV for stoners. "Wow, man, can you believe she made the same mistake again?" "Dude, look at those chocolate coins. I could go for some chocolate coins right now, man!"

Who do you think this show is for??

Daytime soap opera fans. With ADD.

So far, after three episodes, we've managed to establish that:

1. New character facets can be added or removed at any time for no particular reason.
2. Characters can added or removed at any time for no particular reason.
3. Good leads to evil.
4. Evil leads to good, which then leads to evil.
5. Every single person will, given a little more time, be secretly plotting to remove all of the others.
6. The odds of their all hooking up with each other anyway are still very high.
7. Plots are optional.
8. There are no rules.

Even the opening credits are starting to point that way. Lots of sunshine, brief glimpses of attractive people, bad theme song, plus the 'and introducing' bit. We're not looking at a twist on a current reality format, we've got the return of an old one: the primetime weekly soap.

How long has it been since one of those got past its first season? Two years? Five? Ten...?

(I wasn't around for PHo. Was it this bad?)

YES...PHo was that bad.

Actually, I enjoyed PHo much more... but maybe that was because we actually got to "know" the characters -- that hasn't happened yet in Eden... and it better soon if the show wants to stick around. And also, Eden's top-heavy host can't compare to PHo's.

-SB

PS Remember, PHo was also taking on water as it left the dock -- it didn't start to become a decent ratings hit until after a month or two

I got strangely hooked on PHo, but can't tolerate this crap. Waste.of.time.

P-Ho did start out slowly, but it was on a few times a week, so the producers had time to set-up story lines and let the audience get to know the contestants.

Because Forever Eden is only set to air once a week, the producers will have to fit one week worth of real time in "Eden" into one hour of TV time. If they continue to waste time with instant recaps, the show will get even more confusing.

Good points SB. Some of the PHo cast had graduated from college. It seems that these Forever Evil characters are on the show instead of going to 6th period detention.

Too much "dude" and not enough shrewd.

My old school sig. You're also right about PHo taking awhile to catch on.

I want to be free, but this stoopid show is sucking me in. And yes, I watch soap operas, so maybe Estee is right.

Don't think that I have ADD though.

Just say no, Monica. And if that doesn't work, I'm starting a PH/Eden recovery group. Wanna join?

Estee,

Yes, PH *was* that bad, In fact, your little list there was as good a summary of PH as it was of Eden. Excellent job!

Eden, in my view, is almost a parody of Reality Shows. There are so many twists that there is no plot! Same as it was with PH.

Why do I watch ... well I won't be watching much longer.

I just watch it for the laughs. I was trying to explain to my friend what was going on last night and it went something like this, imagine lots of confused looks and waving in the air:

ME: So these girls have to chose one of those girls to kick off, or else they'll chose one of them.

HIM: Which girls?

ME: These girls. (Points and gets out paper and pen.)
See, this one is friends with this one but doesn't want to kick this one out, and then this one is being a ##### and not voting for the other one and this one is roomates with that one and so I think that this one is going to go tonight.

HIM: Which one?

ME: But then again they'll probably have some messed-up twist where the guys mud-wrestle for the chance to pick the girl, and the guy will end up going.

HIM: Which guy?

ME: The one with the girls.

HIM: Which girls?

ME: See the starred stick figures on my diagram? Those girls.

HIM: Your stick figures need more figure.

Couldn't of bees stated any differently. I so agree with you, the show is way to fast let me get to know some of the characters by name and not just there joofy looks. Such as Mr. Ed, chubby greasy face girl and her roomate chubby frizzy head girl, and so on and so on. Hopefully they will slow down the pace of this show or cancell it all together.

I like your descriptions of the contestants, confusedluckygrl!

The only name I remember is Michael, because he is so cute and likable.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Fox has used the same shot of Naveen crying/gasping in all three episodes? This is my first Fox reality show, so I can't decide if this is their style or I'm imagining things.

And what was the point of the "sexual content" warning before the show last night? Where was the sex? Did I miss something?

Is this Fox's MO? Should I be sorry I missed PHo? Should I be sorry I'm watching this? No wait. I already am, but I'm hooked. It's so bad it's good. But in a bad way. Which is good.

I think.

Yeah, FOX has reality shows along these lines. Such as PHo last summer. There are no plain rules and there are going to be these random granny smith apples thrown at us at an unbelievable pace. I am going to watch until I write my summary and if the pace hasn't slowed down, I may not keep watching.

As stated above, at least PHo gave us time to develop personalities and strategies. These peeps can't get a strategy going because they are not controlling the game. That is what frustrates me.

I watched the first episode and gave up on it. This show is way too slow, boring and overly complex to give it a second look. Plus, the ratings are pretty bad, so I'm guessing Fox will start burning off shows (Double-episode Monday or a Monday/Thursday type-of-thing) like they did with Joe Mil. 2 and Temptation Island 3 very soon. I doubt this show will be on come May sweeps.

I do not understand how anyone can say, "This show is way too slow! The show is the fastest moving reality TV show I have ever seen! The game changes every commercial break. For someone wanting a fast moving reality tv show...what more could you ask for?

I agree with Vols on the "fast moving" part. Because these mumblers just work on the surface and don't plot and plan, FOX tries to keep things moving with the editing and the twists.

Ruthless should just be upfront with it: "You don't need to think about this important decision, because we will spring a twist on you that will render your choice meaningless."

Once Paradise Hotel got rolling, it was Face The Nation compared to this.

Augustgirl, no, it's not just you. Either Naveen has no other facial expression or they have shown the exact same shot in all 3 episodes. My vote is for the latter. I commented on it to Mrs Frankz Monday night as well.
Until she's gone, I expect we'll continue to see it. Goes along with the ADD thing. Unless we see her crying/gasping, we won't know that a dramatic moment has just occured. But, in case we missed it, Fox will show the scene several more times so that it might sink in.
And I guess the "sexual content" was the girls sitting on a bed together, or appearing in swimsuits. We can all thank Janet for this. The sexual content disclaimer will appear on every show now so the networks can cover their a**es.

I think the disclaimer was for the massage scence...they had to blur out somestuff i believe or some crap like that...and yes i agree that is the same excat face you get out of chubby greasy faced girl....beacause fox isn't smart enough and show a piece of her dress, wich she wore one the very first episode...black with some tan.

"RE: Forever Edens Target Audience"
Posted by AugustGirl on 03-10-04 at 11:55 AM
I was seriously beginning to wonder if I had blacked out for part of the show because I did not see anything remotely sexual that would merit a disclaimer. The network brass's fear of the errant boob must be the reason. That hadn't occured to me. Thanks frankz.

a JSlice original. isn't she something?

I am so into this show. I hope they bring back past losers to compete in an overall immunity challenge with the current people and then do a finale episode, what is the prize again?

>Compensation: Handsome weekly compensation (disclosed upon advancement to callback round) + large potential prize winnnings
