"Country Week song spoilers"

These have supposedly been "confirmed"--what do you think of Jordin's choice? Wasn't that originally a pop song? How country will it seem?

From Scrappy at VFTW via MJ's Big Blog's Preston:

New Spoiler List from Scrappy at VFTW… these seem more real than the others, but again, this is a new source and could probably be taken with a grain of salt:

1. Phil Stacey - “Ain’t Goin’ Down Till The Sun Goes Up” by Garth Brooks
2. Jordin Sparks - “You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain
3. Sanjaya Malakar - “Boot Scootin Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn
4. Lakisha Jones - “Concrete Angel” by Martina McBride
5. Chris Richardson - “Over And Over” by Nelly and Tim McGraw
6. Melinda Doolittle - “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” by Reba McEntire
7. Blake Lewis - “Come A Little Closer” by Dierks Bentley

Scrappy: These are real. I have connections to Martina’s camp.

What Phil is rumored to be singing:

Garth Brooks--LaToya London singing it--Ain’t going down till the sun comes up:

And Josh Gracin singing it (in concert):

What Chris is rumored to be singing:

Over and Over by Nelly with Tim McGraw (this is really a pop tune with some country)

What Lakisha is supposed to be singing:

Martina's Concrete Angel-- the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLwwy-g2wkc

(this appears to be a tear jerker song--so Lakisha may do really well with this)

-----

What Jordin is supposed to be singing:

Shania Twain--You're still the one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XENujsU3Wg

(Ok, I can hear Jordin singing this country version and I think she will do really well with this. Starting to worry about Blake's choice now!)

What Melinda is rumored to sing:

Wow! Here is Kelly Clarkson singing Reba's Why haven't I heard from you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh1W5iEw9KQ

Now having heard snippets of all of these songs I think the girls are going to bring it; Sanjaya will probably do some of the boot scootin' bootie dance and that will bring down the house.

Worried for Blake and Phil--Chris R's is a pop song with some country-- so not much of a stretch--but I know I should not underestimate Blake!

Found this Dierks Bentley video on you tube--easier to hear his singing on this one:

No way, Sanjina doing Boot Scoot Boogie? Disaster.

Chris? You know we rip on the divas for not getting out of their comfort zone, how about Chris? Over and Over? *shakes head*

I think you're thinking of a different "you're still the one" song. Shania's is country.

I'll be very interested to hear Blake do Dierks. I love Dierks. *sigh*

Shania's is "you're still the one I run to..." and is a beautiful song.

Yes, I now recognize this well known Shania version. I think it is a slam dunk for Jordan. First, the song is soooo likeable! Next, it seems to be an easy song to sing and I think Jordan will have a sincere look on her face.

These "spoilers" seem a little suspect to me.

First, "Over And Over" is an R&B/Rap song that just happens to have Tim McGraw singing a few lines in the chorus. I wouldn't think this would get past the theme of the week.

Secondly, although it would be fun, Sanjaya is NOT going to attempt "Boot Scootin Boogie".

On the other hand, i would LOVE to see Melinda do that Reba song. That would be incredible.

Actually that annoying "Over and Over" song played on Country stations and is on a Tim McGraw CD.

I agree about Sanjaya though.

"Over and Over" is an hilarious song. Every time I hear it, I think the same thing: Why is Nelly in love wiht Tim McGraw?

ROFL!

If Chris sings this then will we be wondering why he is in love with Tim and Nelly?

well, I think it's safe to say Phil's going home then.

Randy:"Awww, Dawg...you were havin fun up there tonight, huh? What chu think I'm gonna say? Huh? Man, didn't do it for me, not at all. Pitchy, pitchy...I worked with Garth Brooks...what u think Paula?"

Paula:"Well, you were having fun up there...the crowd liked you..." ** cut to Phil's wife, who looks better than Paula...**

Simon:"Disneyland called. Dumbo wants his ears back."

Blake? hum, we will see what we will see.

Phil : byebye.

Sanjaya? mwahahah! u must be kiddin me.

Melinda : she nails anything so im not worried.

thanks zazzy!

too bad I don't know ANY of these, lol.

I think Sanjaya could do a really entertaining performance with that one!

And Melinda and LaKisha's should be good.

but omg. that Chris song is so boy pop, amazing. country?? really? So he could buy himself another week right there too.

there was another one that also seemed like total pop, i guess it must have been jordin's.

But I bet Sanjaya will be the talker of the night, hand's down. and in a good way.

and he's guaranteed to be in a hat and boots, lol.

I hope this list is accurate just because I want to see that ^ ^ ^

Sanjaya singing "boot scootin boogie?" Somehow I just can't picture that. It would be funny to watch though!

Well, I hope these spoilers are right, because I love the choices by Melinda, Lakisha, and Blake. Melinda could bring down the house with her choice - it's excellent. I was hoping Lakisha would pick a Martina McBride song, since she could belt it out. I just wish she would have picked a more upbeat song - Concrete Angel is about a little girl killed by an abusive parent. Still, if that song can't put some expression in those eyes of hers, nothing will.

I wish Jordin would have picked something bigger. That choice was way too safe.

And for all the nice things I've been saying about Sanjaya...he would absolutely, positively butcher that song, and since I adore it, I'm pissed. Too bad he won't be going anywhere, since Phil's choice is even more ridiculous.

What'll it be? I want a shot of that redhead yonder lookin' at me.

I'll be pissed if he sings that song also. I still think he should sing achy breaky heart and have his haired styled in a mullet with a pony tail. And don't forget high top nikes and shirt with no sleeves!

I'd go with the ponytail too, but only out of the back of a felt brown cowboy hat, complete with boots, levis, and a classic studded cowboy shirt. A red bandana around the neck might be taking it a bit too far, though.

Oh, yeah, he could pull it off.

Still don't know if the song rumors are true but here is another rumor to throw on the pile--posting here until the show and then this should get moved to the pimp spot thread if Blake goes last this week (and Jordan sings last next week---but I was anticipating her repimp about that time with 6 left or 5 left with plenty of time for more repimping in the F3 or F2).

There’s a rumor going around that Jordin was supposed to sing last tonight with I Will Always Love You. But the producers persuaded her to save the song for next week and make it acappella; they’re going to give her the pimp spot then on what is probably the biggest night of voting this season. Blake was supposed to get the pimp sport next week because he is the only one who hasn’t gotten it yet. But they switched it to this week because he really impressed Martina and once again, because he has never gotten the pimp spot.

If it’s true (I hope it’s not because I like Jordin), the producer machinations make me a bit angry.

-----------

This rumor seems a bit weird to me about the song choice because how does I will always love you = a country song? That's a Whitney song, a diva song.

I Will Always Love You was originally done by Dolly Parton, so that probably qualifies it as country. If I'm not mistaken, I think she even wrote it. Will check wikipedia, but for some reason that sticks with me.

ETA Checked wikipedia, and yes, Dolly did write the song. I think Jordin could handle it nicely.

Thanks, KoalaChick! (and others who posted about Dolly)

I can hear Dolly singing it--and yes, Jordin will do well with it. Now that rumor seems more credible to me since IWALY is a country song first.

Fingers crossed for Blake singing last this week (any week! lol)

It's no rumor--it's the big Idol extravaganza! "Idol Gives Back" complete with inspirational songs sung by the idols. No certainty on the guest coach, though. Lots of guests. Lots of footage shot around the world including a school in eastern Kentucky that needs books.

Details are the in the bottom of the first post of this thread:

That's the exact song that came into my head when I posted about being disappointed with Jordin's safe choice of the Shania song. I would love to hear her sing I Will Always Love You.
