Ryan told us on 2/22 we would have the following stars this year on AI:

Diana Ross
British Invasion
Gwen Stefani
Jennifer Lopez
Martina McBride
Tony Bennett
Jon Bon Jovi
Barry Gibb

Returning AI-ers:

so far: Fantasia; Kellie Pickler; Carrie Underwood

Anticipated: Chris Daughtry (May 9?); Taylor Hicks (finale? May 23? He is touring many of the other AI nights, appears to be open April 18 and May 16; tour ends May 12)

ETA 4/3: Confirmed to appear: Ryan told us on April 3 that Kelly Clarkson will be part of the Idols Give Back show and sing live from their second venue, the Walt Disney Concert Hall; proceeds from the tickets sales will go to the charity. Kelly Clarkson's new album, "My December", will be released in mid 2007.

Other guests on the Idol Gives Back show:

Daniel Radcliff (from Harry Potter)
Melissa Ethridge
Kiera Knightley
Hugh Grant
Helen Bonham Carter
Forrest Whittiker
Pink
Gwen Stefani
Mr Bean/ Rowan Atkinson

Ryan told us on 4/10 that these artists would perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall (and be a part of the Idol Gives Back show:

Il divo
Earth, Wind and Fire
Rascal Flats
Annie Lennox
Josh Grobin
Kelly Clarkson

ETA 4/11/07: updated with Ryan's list of performers at the concert hall.

ETA: added rumor of Bono on April 24.

ETA 4/5/07: cleaning up main section and adding guests new albums info (it is about commerce, after all).

And, to add the update that the songwriting contest was announced by Ryan on the 4/4 show without much fanfare (no graphics or flourish). Info on their website, sounds like there is only a two week window to get your song sent to AI.

Rumored: Constantine, Ace and other former contestants will appear to sing songs that America has sent in for the coronation song contest --but no mention was made of this yet.

ETA 3/07: Taylor Hicks will appear this year per Nigel's interview; no word yet on Chris D's appearance.

ETA 3/07: added rumor of Bono on April 24 or 25 show? Note: Ryan did not mention Bono when he cited guests on 4/4

ETA: 3/07 Rumor: Leona Lewis, last year's X Factor winner, will appear sometime in this season, probably after her single drops. Her new album debuts September 2007.

Read on the idolforums board --from RickyHoeGuardian--that Tony Bennett is sick and will not perform tonight; they are trying to get Michael Buble to perform.

------

Also added Kelly Clarkson and other guests for the charity night show. Funny that no one talked last night on the East Coast thread about Kelly returning to the AI fold for the charity show!

Re: Bon Jovi week.

What would be cool is if Jon and Chris team up on "Wanted Dead or Alive".

Not sure about this one--info from RickyHoeGuardian at idolforums about April 18 (country results night):

--------------
Fergie:

Pretaped her performance for the results show April 18th. I believe the song is
Big Girls Don't Cry her next single. Wearing Turquise shirt, black leggings and
red high heels. The Idols came out and stood on the side to watch her perform.
Hair very light almost blond.

If this is true, this alone is a reason to never watch AI again.

Fergie? This would be an all-time low for AI.

Lol, Geekboy. Ratings are down and Idol needs a ratings boost to deliver on the numbers promised to advertisers. It does not surprise me that in a lighter- than- usual talent year they go to adding guest stars to boost interest. It's all about commerce and I am starting a new thread to track the numbers on that one, data geek that I am (lol).

Here's another one--this one from People magazine:

After the Gwen Stefani/Akon show:

"Raise Your Hands: Even after the show ended, audience members were treated to post-show performances by Akon and singer Robin Thicke, being taped for a later show. "

This is the part I don't know if it is right or not:

--someone on idolforums thinks Robin Thicke's song will be shown on April 11.

This week's results show is one hour long. Cable guide says Jennifer Lopez is performing. Not sure if Mark Anthony is as well. And another board says Robin Thicke is performing. (And it was pretaped). Robin is Alan Thicke's son.
