when they have to tell you that you can't sing with gum in your mouth?

The blood coming out of my ears spelled out yes.

As I keep talking to myself

So how long until we see a good audition.

No amount of water will cure that voice sweetie. I've heard people sing when they are sick and I've still been able to tell the good singers. I'm glad your son likes your singing.

Wasn't this blonde girl, Darwin, on last season? She seems familiar. She's scary.

I don't remember. But that might be just the brain trying to protect me from the trauma.

Who am I, why am I here, what are these people doing on my TV?

You're lucky, if that's the case. I think my brain is holding something against me.

So Darwin, and her mom. Nevermind that a good foundation garment would do wonders for her. I don't understand why she was talking. . . so. . . slowly. . .

Some times your joie de vivre and elan are so fulsome that they get in the way of each...and...every...word...you...speak.

Damn I'd hate to see what that pair looked like when they were depressed. Speaking of pairs some supportive undewear would not be a bad idea.

Painful. The circus must be in town. Seriously.

Oh wait...who's this guy?

I, too, found her strangely familiar.

And the bazoombas on that girl...HOLY MOLY. Talk about back problems....

Just checking in to say hi to all of you (i.e., Snidget). I'll be able to join you in your quest for pain, suffering, and bleeding eardrums in about 12 hours or so.

They have to be paying these people.

Sunburned girl called herself fluffy.

ETA: I never saw last comic standing (seriously).
i really think some of these people have been paid.

Why does watching this hurt so bad?

Is this when the jump the shark? I mean that joke is recycled from Last Comic Standing.

If it hurts you haven't had enough adult beverages, yet.

She didn't sing very well, but I liked her. At least she was realistic about the fact that her audition was bad.

There are a lot of people with stand-up hair in Seattle. You'd think the rain would make that difficult, but it seems that a lot of people have managed the defy follicular gravity.

"Is that"
Posted by Snidget on 01-17-07 at 08:29 PM
Sunburn or pink netting?

Wait, she can at least hear when she is bad! Who let her in. AT least the dog is cute. What is that on her boyfriend's head?

Well, they're certainly giving us enough time to comment with a commercial every other contestant or so. Yeesh.

Spikey beatbox guy. Meh. I think it's fine that they let him through but I don't see him lasting very long.

Sister was OK.

Bro sings Stevie better than most of the idols do with music during the elimination shows.

LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED the brother.

First definate STAND OUT of the season for me, at least.

Looking forward to him, and the sibling rivalry in Hollywood.

I really liked the sister and the brother.
They'll be fun to watch.

ok...zittsman? really? is that what his last name is? zittman???? I have a feeling this is going to be cruel.

"RE: Weds. Jan 17 Audition Show East Coast Thread."

love love loved the brother. The sister was good but he was way better. It kind of irritated me that he seemed to believe his sister was better until they told him that he's better. The look she had when he wouldn't say who they thought was better was frightening. Poor boy. I'd like to see him make the finals and her get cut before the final 24.

Zitsmond? The unfortunately named young man.

Dear lord please tell me that kid has something special between those looks and that name...yikes.

Unchained melody, that is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

And then he ope'd his mouth...gack.

LAST EDITED ON 01-17-07 AT 08:59 PM (EST)

If they hadn't shown this guy in previews, I'd still be scared for this audition. He's just giving us too much fodder.

The high notes made him sound like he was trying to lay an egg.

His coworkers, who encouraged him to audition, must not like him much.

He needs to stop. Please.

Oops. Softward?

He thinks the tape make scare him? It sure scared me.

Softward may be an unintended word, but it fits him so well.

Are you talking about the Unchained Melody guy? I felt horrible watching them beat him down. That was not fun for me.

"RE: Softward nerd guy"
Posted by brvnkrz on 01-18-07 at 11:10 AM
It wasn't fun for me either. I truly felt bad for this kid who is obviously completely in the no-know.

Isn't it "bourbon"?

"RE: Softward nerd guy"
Posted by nailbone on 01-18-07 at 11:02 AM
When he said that his co-workers encouraged him to audition, I flashed back to jr high days, and the AV nerd that everyone picked on, trying to make him think he was some kinda stud that he obviously really wasn't, all the while snickering behind his back (and no, that wasn't me).

I can just see his co-workers gathered around a TV together having a big laugh at his expense.

The entire thing surrounding him just upsets me.

Am the only on still alive?

Kenneth did look a bit like a cross between a lemur and Lukas from Rock Star.

He sang more like the lemur, unfortunately.

As tempted as I am by this show, I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Kenneth was bad. But I'm glad they were fairly nice to his flower-shirted friend. I think he changed keys 5 or 6 times during his rendition of "God Bless America."

At least they each found a best friend. "Idol. Bringing folks together." Awwww.

"Lemur and Flower shirt"
Posted by Buggy on 01-22-07 at 09:21 AM

Kenneth and his friend were just on the Today Show talking about how mean Simon was to them, how they should have moved on the the next level, and how now they are gonna be famous because Simon dissed them.

They both claimed to be fans of the show, and yet said they'd never seen Simon be mean like that.

"Bush baby and crack baby"
Posted by Coconut on 01-17-07 at 09:21 PM
That and the lemur comment are all kinds of wrong. Funny wrong, though.

Did anyone catch Simon's comments about the Hawaiian shirt guy borrowing Randy's pants?

I haven't seen his audition yet and I'm already afraid that I'm going to have nightmares about the upcoming "big red" guy. Yikes.

Yep, it is one thing to ask to try a different song, but really, when they tell you to stop and their body language indicates they are in pain, assaulting them with more notes of horror is not going to change their minds.

You mean the daughter of Phillippi Sparks? She seemed very trained so I googled. Here's her wiki page.

"RE: Weds. Jan 17 Audition Show East Coast Thread."
Posted by Snidget on 01-18-07 at 11:30 AM
Yep, she was one that I would bet had a fair amount of singing/performing experience.

A lot of kids aren't into their full voice at 16 (a few are) but it would be really rare to have one's talent at that level (at any age) that well developed without some sort of training or experience.

I'd like to revisit last night for a second and ask if anyone else was horrified that the dude dressed up as Captain Patriotic was a cop? He had auditioned last year in his uniform.

He seemed downright whacky. Yup, give that man a gun and a badge.
