"Introduction which I hope you read"

This is such a big board, that I'm not sure whether an explanation-introduction will do much good...

But here goes: I have a bit of brain damage, so sometimes I think that what I'm saying tracks, but it really doesn't. Sometimes I want to say something... but can't get it organized into words.

I'm sure this doesn't sound the way I mean it to: what's happened, you see, is that I've lost about half of my working memory (that's when you have a couple things in mind at once, like to compare things in order to make a choice) and over half of my processing speed, which I am sure you are clear on, because if you have a computer, and you obviously do, then you know what it's like when it's slow.

So you are probably thinking "car accident" --
But no, it was so insidious, which is partly why I'm telling you...

I had huge stress because IRS was collecting a year I had long since paid, and I'd sent IRS the proof over and over again, I'd be lucky to sleep three hours; I got huge, I mean HUGE pain in my bones, and eventually I tried to kill myself, partially in protest of abuse by IRS, and partially because I just thought it would be such a relief.

Yes, IRS really was making a mistake -- here's my web page with the documents showing it:

http://www.health-boundaries-bite.com/BoundLetters/1991Levy-for1984.html

and here's the story U.S.News & World Report ran, using some of my experience of abuse by IRS:

http://www.health-boundaries-bite.com/BoundLetters/Messy.html

When my neighbor found me in my car with the carbon monoxide, he called 911 and I was saved... but I was really pissed for a long time. Except that at the hospital they found I had really low B12, but they didn't do much.

When I finally got B12 replacement therapy, the change was astonishing. Really big change. Only it was too late to completely reverse the damage and some nerve damage was permanent, like my cognitive dysfunction/brain damage.

I used to have the coolest mind, and I totally loved it. Well, can't stay on this perspective (because it's sad making).

So, that's why I made my web page that I have in my signature. This seems pretty long... so I'll stop now.

Hi Nutz --
Whew, I think I'm finally getting the hang of this.
I've never been on a board before where all the threads take off in separate directions.

I saw your bouncing acorn when I was first looking around. I love it!!! The bouncing detached heads are a little Zarqawi for me... But the acorn is great!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome.

Just a hint of advice. You might want to read the guidelines. There is a part about advertising....

"RE: Introduction which I hope you read"
Posted by ConsiderThis on 06-04-05 at 04:01 PM
I did read the guidelines.

I mainly want people to know about B12. They can get it from Wal*Mart or Walgreens' or their health food store, what's important is knowing the warning signs.

I really have brain damage because I was low on B12. I really, I mean REALLY wish I'd known how to tell.

I was earning $60,000 as a Realtor, now I often don't have any money for weeks. My last rent, I was a landlady, was in November.

You just have no idea how many ways it affects your life when your mind stops functioning properly.

You possibly could not have convinced me that B12 was important before this happened. I mean it's a vitamin for Gosh sakes. So...

but, that's why I have the research on my page. So People can see that it's been studied and established. This isn't just my wcky experience, this is real and it should scare anyone who's got a lot of stress in their lives, because I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't had the stress of IRS collecting a year I'd already paid, that I'd have been fine and still making money and shopping for fun.

lol giant radio active craters.

I learned a lot about Alpine plants when I lived in London, thinking that was a genuinely attractive topic of conversation be cause I read it in some mystery novel by... I'm sure you'd like the writer... but I can't think of his name right now...

Caught in an Awkward Lie
was one of his books. Picture of a golf ball on the cover.

I really think you'd enjoy it/him.

But the Alpines were not really all that interesting to people I knew...

so ... I spent a lot of time really trying to be accepted and to talk about the right thing... and after that I just more decided to talk about what interests me.

I also try to be entertaining...like... Tim said. But I can't make people like me. I can just be me.

I wrote over a thousand letters when I was trying to get IRS reformed... I like to write.

You mean the carbon monoxide?

No. I ran into the guy who's fairly high up at Los Alamos, at Kinko's shortly after that, and he knew about chemicals and he said that the carbon monoxide pretty much isn't a problem once you get some air. No long term affects.

I had some neuro-psych tests along the way... so...
see I get really angry when I'm taking the tests and I can't do fairly simple things, or do them quickly the way I used to be able to...

Which I mention because it seems like the hydrogen sulfide made it worse... but it could have been the ongoing stress from that, since that's what's driven me into this hopeless poverty right now.

I know I can do all the things I need to do, but I can't have them in mind at once, and it takes so long to do them... that it feels hopeless some of the time.

So that's not good.

Sun just went down... may mean this is not a good route for this topic... (chuckle)

Thanks everyone.
I love the signature picture belonging to CantStandToLook --

I'm unclear on the person who didn't like my post, I don't understand masts... I mean I'm sure I do, I just haven't snapped.

One thing about brain damage, is I am inclined to say the same thing over and over... so in a way, I could get into going from board to board and saying exactly the same thing, because it feels normal because I can remember this story.

But you know how there's that graphic of things disintegrating? That's sort of how what's in my mind "looks" when I put something in that there's no room for... everything just falls apart. So going to different boards would be highly stressful because they wouldn't stay clear in my mind.

Sorry, I do tend to write a lot.

If I broke my writing up into smaller bits, and posted them separately, wow I'd have quite a good talker rating!!!!!

"RE: Introduction which I hope you read"

I have a huge amount of research excerpts pasted at the bottom of my fingernails page. I wanted it there so people wouldn't think I was just dreaming.

I've had tetanus since last August, only I didn't know until September 30th.

Why I say that is that it takes away all your strength. They handed me a meal when they first started bringing me meals, and it just dropped to the floor because I wasn't strong enough to hold it.

Okay so how that relates, is that our minds/brains are a bit the same. They get really weak. Like right now my tetanus is better, but I'm really weak because of what it did.

My mind was way worse than it is now. Before it was like a huge black hole was following me around. I didn't really remember anything. I could see what was in front of me. That was it. It was really scary.

But then I did my web pages, some are much harder to do than others. Ones with pre-made html are really tricky, and they really increased how much I could remember. I spent 8 days at one point, that's 7a.m. to 11p.m. trying to get one ShaperImage logo to be where I wanted, only I couldn't remember where it was, and my layout page looked nothing like the way the page looked on the net.

I only came close to giving up two or three times. Then, and this was so spectacular, one night just before I fell asleep, I could see the logo. Well, that was a memory. A real memory.

Gosh, I still get excited thinking about it.

So, after that I made progress more quickly, and computer games help a lot, like Mah Jong and FreeCell, and Bounce Out, things like that...

If I spent as much time exercising physically, I could be in a Miss Granny America contest!!!! and maybe win lol

I love being entertaining. In college a million years ago when I used to have to talk in front of large groups (I was Culture Committee Chairman) I always wondered if people were listening, really listening.

so I used to see if they would laugh... and when they did, then I knew they were engaged.

And in London when I was in pretty major poverty (living in a derelict building) I used to try to be as entertaining as possible so that people would invite me and my little son to dinner...

Yes, I really have brain damage. It doesn't make me less smart, just slower.

I'm a real persistent person, though, and also I was always pretty truth oriented, so I don't get as confused as I might if I were trying to keep a million untrue stories straight.

I was just reading a letter from my doctor which I'd asked for for the bankruptcy judge, and which I wanted to be about the tetanus I've had (forever) and the doctor keeps concentrating on how bad my mind is.

See writing is lovely. I can fix things. Knowing I can fix things relieves a lot of stress. The less stress, the less intrusion into my mind in such a way that I make more mistakes.

This is true of everyone with this kind of brain damage. (I don't know what I mean by "this kind.")

I never doubted that your story, and I know that brain damage doesn't necessarly interfer with intelligence, many of the case studies (see HM, KC, Phineas Gage, ect..)I teach in the neuro chapter speak to that fact.

Which is only tangentially related.

You may not be compassionate, but, ah hem, I am. See, I was so having the most fun when the stress thing caused me to not sleep and then it was just so easy to think anything but what was really happening.

If you have a lot of stress in your life, you could be losing B12. and with it, your lovely mind as you know it.

No, I really just want to tell you about B12 and the lines. Education. I'm delighted when someone does buy something, but hardly anyone does. But lots of people get B12 from Wal*Mart and health food stores and take it and write me about how much difference it's made. It makes me really happy to be helpful. I know that if they keep taking it, that their lives will live out with far fewer problems than if they had brain damage or the peripheral neuropathy like me.

Karma is probably preparing something nice for me

I think it's reall cheap at Wal*Mart -- maybe not all of them carry it, but I wrote them a lot of emails to carry it, and I know that after that they began to at least in some areas.

Welcome.

I'm so sorry that you've had to go through all the crap that you've had to go through. I can't even imaginge what that must have been like for you.

For the kind of damage you discribed, I must say that your post hung together very well, Don't worry too much about your differeces here. Everyone is unique in one way or another. And we all have diffuculites in some areas(my personal diffuculty is in emotional responses and displays).

Hi Tim, I think I answered you in the wrong place, about how what I wrote is just repeating the story, and I repeat things I've learned really well.

It's new stuff that's a challenge.

In fact I started going to the pbs forum to practice changing from one idea to another... my mind doesn't like to do that very much any more. It's called something like "loss of exective function."

I have a very strange request.... I've found your story very interesting, and I'd like your permission to use your story when I talk to my "kids" about working memory and such.

I'd also like to know more of your story if you'd be willing to share it with me. You don't have to post a response here, you can private message me (Click on the little icon in the upper right hand corner) about it if you wish.

Well, Frankz, I had another theory. Since she's had tetanus forever, she must have her jaws locked by now. So I figure lying there getting fed by IV gave her plenty of time.

But it could be the B-12.

Boy, you've got it!!!!

The ER said I couldn't have it because it was too rare.

See, I was having these major contractions in the muscles in my back, they're called tetonic seizures.

I'd had one a week earlier and it had really scared me, but it was only one. But all my muscles were getting really weird, sort of tight, and it was sort of more hard to breath. But not that hard.

I really didn't know much about it, so I wanted to get antibiotics because on the net it says that's what kills the bacteria.

But I have this stupid brain damage.

Okay, so the doctor wouldn't see me because I didn't have the amount of money she wanted. When people don't have money they are sent to the ER because the ERs have to see people. It must literally be a law somewhere.

Well, the ER, if you're planning on paying, is really expensive. So I thought that if I took some money in, and actually was in the doctor's waiting room, that she'd have a hard time sending me away because I didn't have enough money -- in front of other patients, more well-heeled than me.

So, the doc saw me, asked me to lie on the examination table, and I said, well, I had only been sitting up for several days, but the doc insisted and I just gave in because I wasn't thinking very well.

As soon as she touched my stomach, which is where the muscles were the most tight and weird feeling, I started getting these excrutiating contractions in my back. So the doc called the ambulance.

By now I'm pissed that I'm in all this major pain, this was on October 7, so I'm shouting, "If you want to see pain like this extended, vote for Bush."

Loose connection in my mind between Poverty and Republicans.

(sorry, I don't mean to offend if you are Republican. So was gramps.)

Okay, so there was no swelling. My foot looked pretty much like any foot. There was a taupe-red line under my toe nail, but it was not like a bright red flag.

So at the hospital, because I was having a really hard time being clear, I asked for them to call my traumatic brain injury case manager (I fell in the hydrogen sulfide) but they called down their psych department instead, and they decided that I was paranoid. Yup, paranoia. Not tetanus.

But I didn't know that until weeks later when I asked for my records.

See, I'd run out of the antibiotic they'd given me sooner than I'd expected. so I called Wal*Mart to say they'd made a mistake filling the prescription. Wal*Mart checked and said no.

Long story...

Sorry.

So it wasn't "diagnosed" until Feb. 1, 2005, and that doctor thinks of antibiotics as really poisonous, so I didn't get enough metronidazol to wipe it out until after my home was foreclosed and I could go to the homeless doctor... being "at risk" cuz I'm still actually in my home. I just have to figure out a plan... chapter 13 type plan.

He hasn't banned ME. But then again, I don't make every single post and response into an inane ad for vitamin B-12 that I just happen to sell for ridiculous prices on my webpage. Which I link to multiple times in each post.

I doubt ANYTHING could keep the "monkeys" from flying out of your butt.

"RE: The Board Guidelines"
Posted by ConsiderThis on 06-04-05 at 09:56 PM
Well, then.

But my life is not an ad for B12.

If you see it that way, then this is not the place for me, anyway.

I don't care who you buy it from, I don't care if you take it. But I do care that I tell you some ways to recognize if you need it, and you are right, as far as I know, there's no symptom related to it re monkeys and butts.

It was fun this afternoon.

Maybe I spent too much time in the chat room.
But there are some totally lovely sig pics, and I enjoyed them and the lovely responses.

I didn't thing that anyone much would look at my post.

Maybe noone did -- maybe the majority of people didn't see it at all, which is sad making. I think that if they had really seen it, they wouldn't have felt it was an ad. I mean, brain damage is a sad making thing. Reading the letter from my doctor about how he doesn't think I'll ever get better (when I talk, especially if I'm nervous, then it's real apparent)

To those of you who wrote lovely posts, thanks, it was great.

To the person with the palm tree sig... Neat!!!!

And Tim, really enjoyed it.

Thanks Nutz, and the person with the cylinder sig with the tech message flashing on it...

Well, it was fun.

There not always up there, sometimes they fly out. And then? I check their fingernails to make sure they are getting enough B-12. Usually, monkeys who make their homes up people butts, or (if you prefer scientific names) Homeus-rectumus-baboonus, are severly lacking in B-12, UNLESS the keeper of said, bung hole gets too much B-12, which, I've heard, is excreted by the body.

Your web site code thing is so long and complicated that after 3 tried I gave up.

There's a box where you have to enter letters and numbers that are copied from a box that's somewhat camouflaged....

there's a really huge number of characters required, and I was never able to get them all to match ... I tried several times.

You can put me down saying I couldn't hit a button, but that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm glad your friend and everyone in the accident will be all right.

I can see how the "my" in "myspace" might have thrown you off.

Rudy was intense -- I loved the way he'd say he just didn't have any idea of the answers to questions.

See, like literally when I watch Survivor, I think of the people in terms of who is the most resiliant, and I think they must have the highest B12 levels.

I betcha anything that Richard and ... see I forget the names, but Rob, probably Rob for sure, or maybe not if he has to think when he lies, have a lot of B12.

Did you see the Amazing Race where this MOST WHINY girl ever, with a clever boyfriend, won???? I was sooo sure that she was deeply depleted.

Well, I'm going to turn off my email now, close it. I don'twant to be thinking how I'm going to get banned.

But you know what, it was soooo fun!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, you can't have too much B12 cuz the body excretes what it doesn't use.

But like antacids, they keep the body from getting the b12 from food, it's in protein. That's why soooo many people are short of it.

I bet that twenty years ago only a few people were deficient.

Plus the deficiency is great for the pharmaceutical companies cuz they get to sell people (via doctors) antidepressants. and other things...

I have to go back and see waht Jv says,
but I did have tetanus.

In fact, I can still barely be up.
I think because I'm so old.

I've spoken to others who had it when they were younger, and who got adequate antibiotics early on, and they didn't have it this long.

I'm sad that you don't think I'm what I am...

I can understand how ... well,
I could show you my book signed my RD Lainge...

but if you don't think I'm real, then anything I do will seem suspect to you.

LAST EDITED ON 06-05-05 AT 00:17 AM (EST)

Your first post, here, on the thread that I started, little did I know it would take the twists and turns it has!!!!

This is an aside, (inspired by your post) when I went to the Monterey Pop Festival, I'd never heard of the Who... nor Hendrix, really.

So when they crashed their guitars to pieces on stage, I was thinking, "Wow, I bet they're on drugs."

See, I was straight.

So then the guy I was with, we'd hitchhiked from Madison, Wisconsin, said that we should go on stage, like up on the stage to sneak in... I forget what the logic was, and I wasn't very agile so it was really hard to get up on the stage. but he managed to get me up there.

Okay, so I'm a real hard worker, and I guess the stage manager picked up on that because he put me in charge of the stage door.

Yes.

So like all those guys that were playing that day showed me their back stage pass.

And Big Brother and the Holding Company, long straight blonde hair, Big Brother said,"You must be on something really good, You look Really happy."

Straight. Just straight and happy.

So if you all get me banned cuz you don't like my stories, well, I still have my stories.

If you have film of the Pop Festival, and the part where the Smothers Brothers are doing their routin, or announcing, I forget, then you can see me because I was actually sitting on the stage at that point, and they had to step over my long legs...

So maybe all things balance out, and I had to get tetanus because there were so many dynamite things already in my life.

Right, but in those days it meant that if you lit up, it was a cigarette.

Only I used to say, with disdain, "I don't smoke cigarettes."

But I think that was way later. I finally did have a joint... let me see... name of the street. Octavia, I think.

You know what, I totally have had a lovely life.

I hope you are totally enjoying your life. No time like the present!!!!!

Really???
Wow!!!!

I heard, we arrived in the back of a pickup, just when ...
oh dear what was his name... Dock of the Bay...
Otis Redding was playing.

And -- oh, that makes me sad, actually.

Jay, the fellow I was hitchhiking with, came to visit me way later in Green Bay where I was working with the Telephone Company, and we were going to go to Otis Reddings concert... we were so psyched.

We were waiting in line, when we heard that his plane went down in the lake. We were devasated, Just intensely sad. And this guy near us in line said, "What the Hill!!! you mean I've been waiting in line for nothing!!!!!!?"

He was serious. He clearly didn't get it at all.

I should be writing on my site... I suppose.

Oh, you know... no. NO more stories from the good old days. I better to back to work... submitting to directories of "content rich" sites.

Hi Professor...
sorry, a bit wonky on the punctuation.
I meant that our ride to Monterey had been in the back of a pickup truck.
When we arrived, because we weren't inside a car, we could hear the music in the air, it was Otis Redding.

But I couldn't remember his name, only his lyrics, at first.

I shall try to be more clear.

O.K. Can't stand it any longer. Too funny. Too obvious. Too uninformed.

If anyone develops dementia via B-12 deficiency (and they're not an infant), they really had to work at it. Clinically, it can happen - but it's highly unlikely. As for the tetanus - I don't think so, honey. Doubt seriously that you're one of the fewer than 50 cases, per year, that occur in this country - and , if you were, it's not at all likely you'd be in any shape to post here, or anywhere else. But, it's made for many laughs. Thanks for that much, at least.

And, I'll skip your links, thanks. Buh bye now...

Hi Mystic,
Ahhh, so many are so uninformed.

It's 114 cases, the last I read.
There's a terrific study done in 1984 in Bangledesh that shows people who were given vitamin C survived at significantly greater rates than those who were not... it was a tetanus study.

One thing I've learned from my brain damage, is that feelings and beliefs persist where proper thought does not. Belief is a very strong thing.

So you are going to believe that about me no matter what I do.

I am sorry you can't really see me or understand.

"RE: Introduction which I hope you read"

What do you think my new profession is?
I need to know.
Though, what's scaring me is how I'm going to be able to keep my rentals if I can't work out a plan in short order...
In highschool, a quintillion years ago, my year book picture had the caption, "We glory in our infirmities." I can't remember why they thought that back then, except that I was really tall... stood out in a group sort of thing.

I need to figure out how to get the boiler at my rental fixed...
the real reason to avoid like Hill getting this kind of dysfunction, is that you have to rely on people who aren't actually helpful... like I had a church that was going to help me with the plumbing, but then the adult protective services social worker told them that I couldn't keep my home anyway... so they said, well then, no, why put money into something you can't keep anyway.

So asking for help, even when you major need it, is as likely to be more devastating as to be somewhat helpful.

Hence... because our minds are at the heart of nearly everything we do, it is soooo important to take good care of the brain in which they reside.

See I don't think I'd have been this sick so long, the tetanus thing, if I hadn't gotten so extremely stressed when they foreclosed my home without giving me an opportunity to even appear.

That's really distressing. I just shook for a couple of days, so cold I shook. I got much sicker after that. Recently I read that the clostridia does better in cold than in heat...

Well, please will you send me some prayer type thoughts on how to get my rental rented so I have an income again????

My last income was November... and to keep my home (foreclosure was put on hold because I filed Chapter 13 the day before the courthouse steps sale... my friend took the papers to Albuquerque, actually.)

I need to somehow figure out how to get the boiler mended so I can rent it... and have cold hard cash again...

lol... just thinking what I'd buy if I had rent in hand... isn't it funny, pizza comes to mind. lol.

How silly.

Maybe it's because we stayed up too long.
I feel ...

only when I look at your dancing little figure, I'm smiling again.

No, I can understand how you thought it was the carbon monoxide.
but no.

The most amazing thing I've learned from this, is how intense our feelings are. Feelings and beliefs.

So, when people simply don't believe me, can't think about that too long... that's a draining thought.

I wish you really did understand how potent B12 is... or conversely how easy it is to keep an eye on your level via your fingernails. If you pick that one thing up, then ten years from now, twenty, you will still have that valuable information, when you will have LONG SINCE forgotten me.

I was thinking maybe the profession was writing. I have always wanted to be a writer. I am a writer, actually. I mean, I write. But (I write, therefore I am
a writer)
chuckle

But... how to complete the sentence... I'm unclear how to make any money doing it, except to write complaints, but ...

see what you guys are missing, because I've obviously not explained it very well, is that once I had cognitive dysfunction, once my brain was organically changed, it was much harder to do things. There is a reason I stayed in the hydrogen sulfide too long, not just that the other condo members saw me as an easy target, but because my mind wasn't very flexible.

There's a reason I got tetanus... I was more vulnerable because I believed that the potency of the shots built up over ones lifetime, so I didn't need one anymore, whereas the opposite was true.

Beliefs are very tricky. They are not so susceptible to revision. Thoughts are lovely because they can change and include and flower. But beliefs are rather set in stone.

I was so happy that you "understood" me, Tim...

I had thought that you did.

Yes, there were a hundred and some.

I just read all the posts and realized that I misunderstood several, and was encouraged by my misunderstanding.

I was thinking, that years and years ago when I went to New York, I was a senior in high school, I got on the subway and was so completely amazed that they had built that whole thing for a nickle, it only cost me a nickel, that I missed my stop at 5th Avenue, and went all the want to Brooklyn or the Bronks, I forget which, but people talked differently there. I also noticed that there were people on the subway that looked like characters from all different books that I'd read.

In any case, nearly everyone here, is exactly the opposite of me.

Whereas I couldn't imagine building all of that for a nickel -- everyone here is fixated on how many people go through the subway... and they think that if all the people that go through this board buy from my site that I will be rich.

Both views are wrong.

I had no clue about the really vast numbers of nickels involved.

But at the same time, my site is unlike the subway because I'm not charging a nickel to use it. The information is totally free.

Hardly anyone buys from my site, but lots of people learn from it.

Well, Warhol, I need another 15 minutes, cuz this one wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Maybe I can help a bit.
When you made your intial post, you clicked a box that says to inform you by email when there is a new message. So everytime someone posted to this thread, it sent to you. Not all messages were to you directly, some were people talking to eachother within the line of comments.

In the future, don't click that box and you will not get sent the emails. There is no way to turn the feature off once it's been activated, so if no one posts here again, the emails will stop.

I think it is fair to say that some were as confused by your messages, as you were by theirs.

I think the pbs.org one can be displayed this way, only you can choose "flat" and that's what I always choose.

So, let's see if I can get this... in each one of those long lines... people are talking to each other.
They may be talking about me, but they don't expect me to participate????

Or, do they only want me not to participate when they are doing the "In jokes" and smooch things...??????

That was awfully nice of you to explain.

Mr. burns: So do you have a way to get rid of them?

Grandpa: We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say.

Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

That is all.

I didn't want to miss out on this one.
