That chunk of fat must have been blocking it. Run to the light, child!Although for Kim, it may just be the proverbial train....
Simon's right, it just WOULDN'T be the same without you Rube. It'll be better. That's not entirely a slight though, as you were head and shoulders above anyone voted out before you.
Based on tonight's performances,Now if it were truly based on tonight's performances, I would agree with all y'all on Ruben, but we all know that's not the case.
Ruben and Clay showdown, and I fear the big man might win.

Just because
I just hope it is not Clay. But his line was VERY busy on the east coast tonightMaybe that means good things!
This is not just wishful thinking. Somehow the judges have annointed him "he who shall not be criticized", but he was in the bottom two once before, so maybe the public does have a clue. While Kim and Clay each had one off performance and two great ones, Ruben was mediocore across the board. Hey judges, he sings OFF KEY. How can you not notice that? And yes, he gets drowned out by his background voices - that is not a "big" voice. The seeds have been so firmly planted, though, I'm not sure the inevitable can be overcome. I won't be a bit surprised if Kim goes, but I won't call it a sure thing. Ruben might be vulnerable, and I'd love to see it happen.
From bouncing around the AI boards, I noted that the 'Joshaholics' are voting as a group for Clay tonight. Wonder how that will affect the endgame, and how much a good night for Kim borrows from Ruben's pool? There's also one poster claiming to be a friend of Clay's that says he was asked just before the show to add an extra chorus to his song to fill in some time, thus the lyrics flub. They seem to think it's credible, but that is the Clay fans board, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

She called in to the local radio station today and said that Clay told her that he had been asked to stretch the song.
Yes, it's hearsay, but it's someone who talked to Clay. And this isn't the first time she's called in to the radio station, so it's been confirmed that she is indeed who she says she is and does have regular contact with him.
Bebo says...919 beats 205 - I am your American Idol and the Baroness of Babedom.
This smacks of conspiracy. I suspect it's because of his hair.

A boy can dream, can't he?
Ruben SHOULD go, but it's going to be a Clay v. Ruben grand finale and off course the judges will want to convince the public that Ruben is the second coming of God.BUT, Clay will win this sucker.
He needs to go. He will never survive a concert. He sings terribly. He use to be okay, but I tell you, he is getting worse every week.I don't know what Randy keeps hearing. I truely have to wonder if he is bragging about Ruben just because He is black. I know, a terrible thought, but it is all I can come up with for the constant saying of how good Ruben is, when he just isn't. Paula just tries to be nice to everybody even when telling them they were not so good. Simon, wonder if he is afraid, yes afraid, to state the truth because of a possible bigotry card. Ruben is off key alot, drowned constantly by vocals, and can't get through three songs in a hour, how will he do a concert, album, anything like that.
He needs to go for his health.
"Now I will believe that there are unicorns..." William Shakespeare; "The Tempest"
Considering the bashing that Simon gave some of the Corey and Charles I doubt race is a factor. Simon also did not hold back on some of the black final 2 finalists. Nor was he afraid to bash Trenyce on several occasions(a drag show!?). And did Simon every give Ricky Smith a good review? Hell no.Randy also has had no problem of not sing praises for Kim Locke (though she is biracial without inside knowledge of this the girl looks black). And remember Randy bashed at least 2 black female final 32.
I doubt very seriously this is a race issue. And remember, people sound different live than they do on TV as Simon indicated previously on the show.
That is all true. Just that Randy has been extremely vocal on how much he loves Ruben. That puts this on a different plane then Kim, Charlie, Treyence, etc...... So just am wondering how they can think this person is worthy when he is not. I agree that my theory is lame. So what would be yours.
"Now I will believe that there are unicorns..." William Shakespeare; "The Tempest"
Everyone has their personal tastes. Maybe it's just that.
What the hell...shoot me...this is the first week where Clay showed that he was vulnerable, with a bad first performance and the beginning of his last performance wasn't great either. He is the best on the show right now, but just as Ryan said, remember Tamyra? Anything can happen....although this is one of those Sherpa "Christy" votes, hehe.

I thought she was good last night. However, I think they really are trying to get that Ruben & Clay final. and Kim has been in the bottom several times before. But I agree that I really think it should be Ruben. the boy was dripping with sweat after one slower song, how could he survive a whole concert. And I noticed in several different points the backgrounds drowning him out.
Clay is still my man. He may have had a bit of an off night, but after getting forced to sing that awful first song "Vincent", who would not have had a bad night?
Based on teh past couple weeks, i think Kim and Clay have picked up their game, and suprisingly Reuben has slipped.I think last night was his weakest night ever. He just seemed tired, and not giving it his all, whereas Kim was going for it, and Clay picked himself up after that dreadful rendition of Vincent.
Thinking back over the season, Reuben has been pretty much a straight line in terms of his performances. Kim and Clay have definately improved.
If people were actually watching, and thinking it through, i think Reuben would go tonight.
geekboy
The first song Clay drew should not have been in the draw for a male singer. It was a love song to a man, Vincent. Nevertheless Clay was head and shoulders above the other two and Ruben slipped badly.
Why is Ruben allowed such heavy back-up singers. This type of contest should feature one voice only to be fair to every contestant. Ruben has a group for almost every song and last night was almost a choral effort.
First of all, the song was about the passion of Vincent Van Gogh. You know - the famous painter.Second of all, Clay is all about love songs to men. Puh-leeze.
Oh grow up!
One day I hope to be old enough to understand the meanings of songs.!!!WAH!!! Femme, Bebo, Katem - the newby is makin' me sad!!!! (*sucks thumb*)

I'm not interested in locking horns over this and we all heard the meaning of the song was spelt out ahead of the performance. It still came down to a man singinging wistfully about a man and his art which doesn't make for a good pop idol vehicle. As for Aiken's personal orientation, that's irrelevant as Ricky Martin, Boy George and countless others will attest. The pop song market is still fundamentally mostly a boy-girl love song.
Hey, thumbsucker... I agree with the newb. (Hi, Philco!)It was really weird to hear a young guy on a show designed to find a pop star sing that song. I am a HUGE VanGogh fan (his is the only work I will allow reproductions of in the house, how anal is that?!) but that song is just weird. Creepy. Like the song, "I'll be watching you" or whatever by sting. Why sing a love song to a dead man, because no matter what the writer intended, it certainly is a love song. It was inappropriate for anyone under the age of 70 to sing.
But I still love you, Cycle.

Thanks Femme and hi to you and everyone.Pity about KLo, I thought Ruben was lucky tonight
But since who is going home is not base on tonights performance....KIM will be voted off the stage and it will be a Clay v. Rubin final.
It's too bad, I think she is really likeable. Ruben sucks, but the judges just drool over him, YUCK! I think Kim has a problem with starting her songs, she finishes strong, but she starts so weak.I was telling DH last night, I don't see any of these 3 as a "pop star" type. If there was a different type of american idol show- here's how it would go down:
Your American Gospel Idol- Kimberly Locke!
Your American R&B Idol- Ruben Studdard!
Your American Broadway Idol- Clay Aiken! Not that they are bad singers, but I don't see any of them as the same type of marketable pop performer as Kelly Clarksen.
Another quality Ice Cat creation 2003
I think Ruben deserves to go but I have a feeling it'll be Kim. I'll be very sad to see her leave. I agree they are setting it up for a final showdown between Ruben & Clay.I had goosebumps last night when Clay sang Unchained Melody *sigh*
but it should be Rueben.
...to go
This is based solely on various line testing threads. It will come down to Ruben or Kimmel that's for sure.Note to Ryan Seacrest: Yes, I remember Tamyra. I remember her giving an awful rendition of "New Attitude". I did vote, you tool. I voted for Nikki, who was better that evening.
He deserves to go, if only for butchering one of my favorite songs, Vincent. I thought Ruben sounded great on the If Ever I'm In Your Arms Again, and the production didn't feature the background vocals like it usually does with him.
I strongly disagree with you. Yes, clay had his worst performance of the season with 'Vincent', but that song is dreadful, dreary, and quite hard to make into an impressive performance. It shouldn't have been in the mix. But, more importantly, Clay had two other amazing performances. Reuben, on the other hand, had his weakest week yet. He looked bored, tired, and didn't put much of anything into any of the songs he performed. I wasn't impressed by any of his 3 songs.
I think if we're being honest, Reuben deserves it more than either Clay or Kim.
geekboy.
Right on the mark, geekboy! I totally concur.
Ruben deserves to go after those boring performances last night, but since the judges won't ever say anything bad about him, no matter how awful he sounds, he probably won't.
T-Mac hits the three! Magic Win! Magic Win!
Ruben - 13Kim - 8
Clay - 2
God, I hope we're right!

I think it's going to come down to a Clay/Ruben showdown for the top spot.Kimberley did a great job last night. As it is, I ranked Clay third out of three but there is no way in hell he's not in the Final 2.
Ruben is my choice for Idol but he sure was straining last night. His voice is really sounding rough. The same thing happened to Kelly last year but she managed to keep it together long enough to win. If Rube survives but has the same problems in the fianl that he had last night, Clay is going to walk away with this thing easily.
I am voting for her because I am almost always wrong (although I got Josh and Carmen) right. I really want to see the huge guy who breaks into a sweat by just breathing and moving his arms around a little. Clay has been consistent until last night's first song and Kim has really stepped up her game.I hope I am wrong!
Too much love from the judges = apathy from voters

Just because..
Hi All -- new to AI boards, old hat at SB.Personally, I think Clay looks like the love child of K.D. Lang and Martin Short. He's silly looking and has the voice of a theater hack. Maybe he should record songs for Disney movies? Then we wouldn't have to look at him, anyway. All of his performances last night were dreadful. I especially cringed during "unchained melody" -- talk about a butcher job!
As for Ruben, I agree he is overhyped by the judges, and his voice, quite frankly, is sounding hoarse. He was fairly shouting his third song last night, but I think he will stay for the finals.
Finally, Kim Locke showed realy poise, control, and professionalism last night. She blows me away. Although she had an off night last week (hey, she was sick, so give her a break) she was in good form last night. I enjoy her voice and hope that she makes it to the finals.
ciao
Hi, scribe. Nice to see you here.I agree. Clay is my pic for the winner, and I adore him thoroughly, however, I have to admit that you are spot on.
Your assesment of Ruben is also accurate. I would have preferred to see Kim and Clay in the finals, and I was really torn on who I wanted to win. I could see myself buying Kimberely's cd, but Clay's? I haven't been so sure lately. Probably, but truthfully, it would be mostly for the good feelings I've prescribed him after seeing his spectacular personality the last few months.
