Yeah, I watched and even liked it. So what did you think of the note at the end and what is her hubby digging up?

...wanna come to my house to watch tv on Sunday nights?

Can't wait to find out what's buried in the pool. Or what's in the letter. I was LOL when the chick who used to be on Y & R wouldn't let her gardener have a drag off her cigarette because he was too young but apparently just the right age to sleep with.

How about mowing the lawn in that dress and those heels? This show will be comical if nothing else.

When I first saw her drag it out I thought it was a snowblower. Can you tell I'm a northerner?

I thought it was a snowblower at first too... and figured that was going to be part of the comedy (that she dragged out the wrong machine)

I saw the last half an hour (got home late) and loved it! If it can stay this quirky it will be fun to watch.

Since I missed the first half hour--who is the dead narrator? How did she die?

The narrator was a friend/neighbor of theirs who put a gun to her head at the beginning of the show. Did you see the man digging in his pool? That was her husband. At the end of the show the girls were disposing of the narrator's clothing when they found the mysterious note.

Still laughing about the Mom who waded into the pool in black dress and heels to retreive her triplets who went swimming during the wake.

I think the promo at the end said that ABC will be repeating the premiere (where else) on Saturday night.

I loved it. I loved the Mom and daughter banter. I can't remember their names, I have enough trouble remembering my own name. But I am happy about Sunday night TV. This show had me cracking up big time.

Yet another ABC show that I like! That makes 2! (Check out Lost)

Yes I found this show quirky and fun and not at all what I expected- run of the mill soapy drama.

Could the pool digger have some type of buried treasure there? Maybe what the plumber guy was after?

Is it me or is Nicolette Sheridan not all that hot?

Hey Zomie,
I said the same thing to my GF last night. I was always a Nicolette fan but she is looking a little used up. Not aged, used up.

I was thinking the same thing about Nicolette Sheridan...not hot, well, not as hot as she used to be. Old age is not going to be kind to her.

Definitely gonna keep watching. I gave it a shot because I enjoy the actresses who were cast (cmon Melrosers, we got Marcia Cross back!), and I really enjoyed the first episode. Not your cookie-cutter TV show.

Just saw it last night and DH even liked it. He was actually the one who noticed the onions on the salad. I loved all of it.

Speaking of Melrose, was the husband of the former corporate guru, now mother of four (can't remember names yet either) the former gay guy from Melrose? Doug Savant or something? I didn't have my lenses in and couldn't make out his face very well.

And I agree on Nicolette. Her voice hasn't changed, but she sure has. I didn't even recognize her.

And Terri Hatcher is really looking pretty thin these days.

I wonder if the plumber is the person who sent the letter to the dead woman?

Did anyone else think they saw a red name label on the measuring cup that Terry Hatcher's character left in the burnign house.

Wondering if that will come up.

Very fun show. I described it to my DH and now he's hooked, from my description!

When I saw the overnights, I couldn't believe it. When I saw the ratings for the week that ended on Sunday, I REALLY couldn't believe it. I thought, at best, it would be a niche show that would take awhile to catch on.

It was the #1 show of the week!!!

There's an asterisk in there because most of the Thursday schedule was wiped out due to the debate, but it's still very impressive.

I'd find it worth watching even if no one else did, but this good news means that it will be given lots of time to develop.

I thought this show was brilliant! I like how they are using 30+ woman. The humor and morbid factor is making for great entertainment. Believe it or not I am getting a little tired of all the copy cat reality shows. I am still hooked, but it a nice change to have a show like this.

My fav part of last night's show was when Bree pulled the sewing kit out of her purse at the therapist's! Too funny!

The gardener used to be Miguel on the afternoon soap Passions. Good to see he has another job where he can take his shirt off regularly. I can't decide whether his discussion of homework after sex or the gravy behind the ears was funnier. But overall one of the best new shows I've seen. and if the truth does show up, what was in that trunk?

"RE: desperate housewives"
Posted by volsfan on 10-11-04 at 04:56 PM
I dunno what is in the trunk. I was reading an article online somewhere over the weekend and they were talking like we would not know for sure through 6 episodes! So sounds like something they are gonna drag out.

Also, if there are any Golden Girls fans out there. The husband of the woman that killed herself last week (I don't have the names down yet!) is the man that played George's (Blanche's husband) illigitimate son.

It was good Sunday! Hubby and I were LOL at the gravy behind the ears! I really like the parts Terri Hatcher and Nicollete Sheridan are playing, they are completly believable!

I too liked where Bree sewed the button on to the jacket and then the therapist gives it to her hubby!

"RE: desperate housewives"
Posted by sisyphus on 10-12-04 at 03:58 PM
I too got caught up in this show also....I love terri hatcher and remember her from lois and clark...I thought nicolette's name was familiar but could not place....now I know why...knots landing was not not my favourite and I was a bit young at the time to like it......

anywhooo.....back to the show.....I like that really nosy neighbour(don't know her name yet) but she is a real trip...she has practically figured out that the measuring cup belongs to the terri hatcher character....and she will find out what the new guy is up to before anyone else even suspects and she will probably find out what's in the box.....

as to the box well, I think it is a body...most likely a child...killed or died accidentally and then they kidnapped a child that is now the sun....I know that is out there on a limb....does anyone else have a theory...

as to the letter I think the wife wrote it to her husband or the son wrote it his parents....the narrator did mention during the digging up of the pool that the sound was familiar to her son when he was a baby(toddler..) again on the limb .. it will soon break ...so what do you think...

"RE: desperate housewives"
Posted by volsfan on 10-13-04 at 01:05 PM
I think the letter might have been written by the son. Did you see how he walked out and sort of looked over into the pool on the first episode? He sort of looked at the whole situation as if he knew what the dad was doing. IMHO!

Motormouth: You might want to go to abc.com to see if they have some episode summaries on their website and character pictures, etc.

I can't remember all of the names, but here's some of it:

Location: Wysteria Lane. Think Pleasantville.

It started with a woman who described her life as perfect. It was almost like she had a checklist that day:

Make Breakfast: Check
Clean House: Check
Run Errands: Check
Little Household Projects: Check
Blow Brains Out: Check -- or check out rather.

The shot is heard by Little Miss Nosey Neighbor. Think Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched. She reaches in her cabinet and finds her neighbor's blender (the neighbor who has just shot herself) and goes to said neighbor's house to investigate. Peeks through window, sees her on floor, calls cops. After learning that neighbor is dead, she removes the name tag from the blender and keeps it for herself.

Everyone is stunned.

Characters:

Dead woman. She is married and has a teenage son. After funeral and gathering at the house, husband drains pool and starts digging up something from under it. Teenage son wakes up after hearing digging/banging, etc. and comes down to see the husband digging up the pool. It is later revealed to be some big box -- looks like it could contain some sort of remains.

Mike: Mysterious single man who claims to be a plumber and a widower. Has a big dog. He also has a gun and a stash of cash in his kitchen cabinets.

Teri Hatcher (Can't remember her name): She is divorced (I think, may only be separated) and lives with her teenage daughter. Her husband left her for his secretary. It's been about a year. She can't cook. Screws up Mac & Cheese. She has taken a liking to Mike. She put gravy on her neck and ears in an attempt to get Mike's dog to like her. He ended up eating her earing and choking. Had to go to vet, but he lived.

Nicolette Sheridan (Edie): Neighborhood Slut. She has been married and divorced twice. She also likes Mike. She and Teri Hatcher are competing for him. She was banging an unidentified male in Episode 1. Teri Hatcher thought it was Mike. Teri went over to investigate. Teri brought over a measuring cup like she was going to borrow a cup of sugar. She went into Edie's house and saw clothing strewn all over. She heard the bedroom activities and accidentally set the house on fire, escaping and leaving her measuring cup. At the present time, Teri Hatcher is the only person who knows that she started the fire. However, Gladys Kravitz found the measuring cup. learned it was not Edie's and then figured out it was probably Teri's because she went to Teri's house to collect donations and saw that Teri had bought a new cup because the old one was suddenly lost.

Blond Woman (Character: Lynette): She was a corporate big wig. She then got pregnant -- 3 times in 4 years. She has 3 boys (2 of whom are twins), who are monsters and one baby girl. Her husband is always traveling on business (played by Doug Savant from Melrose Place), and she is always at home with her children. The boys do not listen to her at all and she is a frustrated mom. In Episode 1 she went into the pool (the dead woman's pool, which was drained and dug up) fully clothed to retrieve her 3 boys who had worn their swim suits under their regular suits. They wouldn't get out, so she dragged them out, heels and all. In Episode 2 whe was pulled over by a cop because her kids were all over the car. She decided to stop the car and leave them. She really just drove around the block but when she came back, the boys were gone. They had made their way into the kitchen of some other woman who berated her for leaving them and attacked her. The boys defended their mom, jumped in the car and immediately buckled up.

Eva Longoria (Gabrielle): She is a former model who married rich. Lots of talk about how much hubby spends on her. He likes to make an impression. She is bored with him because he doesn't surprise her anymore, take her breath away. She is banging her teenage gardner. There have been funny scenes to hide her affair like her leaving a party and going home to mow the lawn in her fancy clothes to cover and then pushing him out the window when hubby returned home from work. Gardner is in love with her, but he's just her boy toy. Husband surprised her with a new car in Ep. 2, which excited her.

Marcia Cross (Bree): As her family says, she is running for Mayor of Stepford. She is extremely perfect. She cooks gourmet meals for her family and has everything just perfect. Her family is frustrated with her and husband asked her for a divorce because she's not the woman he fell in love with. She put onions in his salad, which he's allergic to. They are in marriage counsling, and she whipped out her sewing kit during the first session because the doctor's button was loose, and it distracted her. She repaired it during the next session.

The dead woman, Teri Hatcher, the blond woman (Lynette), Eva (Gabrielle) and Marcia (Bree) were friends and used to get together, etc. When the women were cleaning out the dead woman's things, they came across a cryptic note, which read something to the extent of: I know what you did, I'm gonna tell. The note was not address in Ep. 2.

Hope this helps, I did it on the fly. I think you can watch the Ep. 2 re-air on Saturday night.

What a wonderful summary that was, you hit the nail on the head with each person. I posted the above link because the web-site is interesting, tells about each character, and does tell you what happened on each episode.

I think Desperate Housewives is going to need its own spot also on this Board. This thread is going to keep growing.
