Previously on Beg, Borrow & Deal: A fat guy and a rich girl led their team to victory over the other team, who are still probably stuck in Oklahoma. Oh, and Rich Eisen explained all the rules, all the time.Summer Sanders briefly introduces the new strangers to us, along with a few rule changes. The major rule changes are:
1) Some tasks have free use of a Subaru Baja attached to them for the team that accomplishes them.
2) Some tasks have a free meal at McDonalds (how exotic! NOT!) attached.
3) Certain locations in five cities have Subarus for the first team that gets there.
4) Once one team gets five tasks done, BOTH teams must eliminate one of their members.
Anyway, the red team has Greg and Kerri - Casey Kasem's daughter - and two other members I don't remember. On the first day they set a record for most tasks attempted but failed. They went to Coral Gables and the University of Miami's campus and tried to dive off their platform. Not allowed. They tried the individual medley. Greg was best, but 10 seconds slow. Then Greg via Kerri invited Heat basketball player Mike James to the AA Arena to perform the basketball medley (3 pointer, foul shot & layup in 20 seconds). Mike was persuasive, but the floor wasn't down. Finally, they went to Miramar to try to anchor a sports show, but they were shot down by the executive producer. But they made connections in Miramar that helped them the next day.
Meanwhile, the green team - featuring Charles and flake Eric - heads to Florida International. They don't have a dive platform, but the pool is big enough for an individual medley. Charles is 6 seconds late. They get a ride to Palm Coast (near Daytona) and crash there.
On day 2, the red team heads to Ft. Lauderdale and the Swimmers' Hall of Fame. The manager there does a wise thing - he makes them prove they can make decent dives by going first off the 3, 5, and 7.5 meter heights before allowing them to go off the 10 meter platform. The dives at the lower heights are successful enough, so they all dive off the big one. Kerri goes last and does the required cannonball - after a pause for commercials. With their first task done, they get to choose a name. They will be forever known as TEAM EXODUS. And they also get to make a call to the other team. The green team wasn't pleased, but they tried hard not to let it show on the phone. Oh, and Team Exodus got the Subaru for doing this task.
Team Exodus gets on the road and discovers their map is missing. This is dire, they warn us, even perhaps being cause for them to forefeit. So they go back and discover that Kerri had left it in the bathroom at a gas station in Ft. Lauderdale. There was much grumbling and some talk of giving her the boot when the time came. They eventually got back on the road and crashed in Orlando.
The green team's day 2 starts slowly as Eric's connections fail to move quickly enough for the rest of the team. Eventually they got to Jacksonville and did the tattoo. If you watched last season, the tattoo task is very different this time around - the tattoo has to be above the waist and at least 3". Trust me - those suckers were big. Now they get to name themselves and they came up with TEAM CAKE, from the initials of the team members. They got to Atlanta and rested there.
On day 3, Team Exodus moved on to Atlanta. On the way Kerri tried to hook up a visit from the Maloof Brothers, who are family friends and happen to own the Sacramento Kings. Mr. Maloof was agreeable, but mentioned the cost ($66,000) which caused Kerri to hesitate.
Meanwhile, Team Cake reached Centennial Park and got the Subaru that was waiting for them. They were working on trying to snap & hold for a successful field goal, thanks to Charles' connection.
NEXT WEEK: Both teams are still in Atlanta, and not having a lot of success.
* Summer didn't mention it, but the other big rule change is the fact that only one team can get credit for a task. As I mentioned before, I like this one a lot.* As for the rewards, I think the car is about 100 billion times better than the McMeal, but perhaps I'd disagree if I were starving.
* I don't like the elimination rule at all. Too much like other reality shows, most of which I think BB&D is superior to.
* Despite the fact that they're a few hours behind, I think Team Exodus is the stronger team and should win this thing. Kerri looks like she's going to be the star of the show, for better or worse. Greg has a good idea of what the team needs to do. I'm sure the other two will do something interesting eventually.
