...FINALLY admit that Dat Phan was funny. He aced Geoff Brown cold. Beat him down silly. Fresh material. It was funny. I was laughing.

And don't give me the Asian stereotype stuff... Geoff was using the women stereotype stuff. Actually, Geoff was very funny, also. I enjoyed both acts. I didn't know how it would go, although I thought the audience reacted just a bit better to Dat Phan (but with TV editing, one can never tell).

But it is time to give DAT PHAN his props! He did a damn fine job and deserves to be in the Final Five!

Thanks for leaving spoiler filler space for the left coasters, Dawg.

As a matter of fact, I was just coming online to post that the audience got it right this week. Dat was funnier than Geoff tonight. I didn't think Geoff's routine was that strong, but Dat got it done tonight.

Do I think he's the funniest of the remaining five? No. But do I think he deserved his victory over Geoff tonight? Absolutely.

Yah, I was just coming back to apologize 'cause I realized I didn't leave enough space for the Left Coasters.

My bad. I apologize if I gave it away to anyone.

40 lashes with a wet noodle for your repentant Dawg.

Yep Dawg, as they say...*Dat's* more like it! (Gawd that's why I should never do comedy) He had me in stitches for the better part of his set. Geoff was, at best, a meh, take him or leave him performance.

"Dat Phan...wins!" And two words...right on!

Dat totally brought it last night, great material, and not the crazy sketch he had against Dave Mordal. I wonder what Tere, Dave, and them thought after Dat actually won.

I'd love to see Dat win, just because the house seems to resent him. We'll see next week...

I still don't like the guy. He's that geek in class in third grade that studies at recess and lunch, and always jumps up and down in his seat like he has to pee when the teacher asks a question.

I hadn't even seen the show until last night (and knew if I looked I'd find a forum here this morning and so I have!) so I was looking at the two of them (Geoff & Dat) from a completely unbiased place. Frankly neither one of them did much for me, but I much preferred Geoff over Dat.

Frankly Dat annoyed me the second he walked onto stage. He was funny, but I just didn't enjoy his material as much as Geoff's.

First, I thought Geoff was weak last night (based on what we saw), but Dat was flat out funny.

Now when you consider that Geoff probably had weeks to prepare for his first set, and Dat had less than a day, you really have to recognize that Dat was extremely impressive.

He was critized for doing only the vietnamese gig versus Dave and even I had doubts about whether he had enough material. But he put those questions to rest last night.

This kid is demonstrating that hard work and intelligence can make someone a good comic. He really studies the art and works hard to develop material.

I think he's building quite a strong fan base and, as a result actually has a chance at winning this thing. Remember it will basically be a popularity contest, not a competition to determine who is the best comic.

I'm betting Ralphie will (and should) win and I think Dat and Tess are the only other two with a shot. You could tell that they are all worried (except Ralphie) and they now fear Dat (as they should).

Dat reminds me of a jack russell terrier on speed. He's not funny - just annoying. If I was in that house with him I'd be tempted to push him over the edge while he's "fighting the chair". That's the other thing he's not that good at - all that martial arts stuff. The guy's just hyper and nervous. I'm sorry he won last night. I can't believe he's as naive as he pretends to be - that he can't figure out why nobody likes him. Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. He'll probably do really well in showbiz.

I think what has happened over the past few weeks will do nothing but help Dat with thew audience vote. As we've seen, everyone loves the underdog. Dat not only is that underdog, the editing has only served to reinforce this perception.

Will Ralphie's talent make up for his arrogance?

I don't think that Dat is the huge longshot he was only three weeks ago.

Because I can't help but root for the underdog, I wanted Dat to win last night. I thought he was funny, and Geoff, for all his bluster, was all right but he sure didn't knock it out of the park. Dat, in person, would no doubt annoy the heck out of me. He's hyper and he's over the top with the "show the audience my soul" stuff. But he is focused on winning, he's suffered through being the butt of jokes by everyone else in the house, he knows he needs to practice hard to do well. Geoff was resting on his laurels, and I think Dave was too and they both lost to the greenhorn. I know it is eating at Dave, but get over the bitterness of underestimating this guy.

The problem is - I don't like any of the remaining contestants very much. Since I feel Dat has been treated rather harshly by his housemates, and he has twice proven himself, I am rooting for him over any of the others. I would greatly enjoy seeing him at least beat out Rich Voss and Tess of the annoying cackle.

Dat was funny, I like his comedy, but Bebo swayed me and I don't think he should win this competition.

Do I think Dat was funnier than Geoff last night.....YES
Do I think he was funnier than Dave last week..........NO WAY!

I really hope that Ralphie wins...he is the strongest comic IMHO...but we know how these things play out....the best doesnt always win!!

Am I the only one who realizes that Dat is horrible. He's not funny and the Chinese accent bit almost made me turn the sound off last night. Last weeks performance was down right embarrasing and I found myself wincing through it. I don't know what's edited or if these audiences are on crack but how this guy is still around is amazing. Fortunately for Dat the rest of the house doesn't seem too promising - Dave being a good example. There are a lot of people out there who are hysterical when they're sitting around abusing people or shooting out one liners but the minute they get on stage with a prepared act they stink. Maybe Vos has a chance as long as he keeps saying all the one liners he learned from Opie and Anthony and Ed Norton (when they were on the air). Just my 2 cents.

Okay, Hello!

I've been quiet on the back and forth between the Dat Phan supporters and the haters because I'm what you all would call a newbie, but it's time to speak my mind!

I'm with SurvivinDawg on this one. I don't appreciate the mean-spiritedness in the house--as demonstrated by Tess, Rich, Dave and Cory. I KNOW the show isn't "nicest comic standing" but you have to give DAT credit for understanding how to play the role of the nice-guy-underdog.

Yes, perhaps Dave's subtle humor is "smarter," but IMHO DAT's a real laugh-out-loud crowd pleaser. Just my opinion.

As far as I can tell, Voss stinks on stage (I end up feeling embarassed for him because he looks like a washed-up-recovering- something-or-other.)

My husband keeps sarcastically referring to Tess as Mo'Nique because she seems like a clone of the "I'm chubby but sexy" routine. Seen it before.

Anyway, as others have insisted, I don't think DAT's act is racist, annoying or one-dimensional. He proved himself AGAIN last night with his "spur of the moment" new material.

I'm voting for him because he's been grossly underestimated in the house. I think he just may pull it off.

NEVER underestimate America's love of the underdog!

In this case, though, I think Dat has the talent to back it up!

NB: nothing about Dat is "spur of the moment" - that's part of the problem.

I think Dat Phan is being edited as the underdog, and since an underdog victory is predictable because it makes for feel-good TV, it won't happen.

But y'all can keep on dreaming.

Then I think Dat could take it all. Not because he's a better comic than the ones remaining, but because of the voting process.

Here's how I'm perceiving the feel of things on this forum right now:

There are folks who are cheering for Dat because of one or more of the following reasons:
a) They think he's funny.
b) They don't like how he's being treated by the others in the house.
c) They like cheering for the underdog.

These folks have incentive to vote.

Then there are those of us who don't think he's the funniest one there, but don't have a favorite among who's left in the house. We're unlikely to vote, and even if we cast an anti-Dat vote, those votes could be split among 4 people.

So when polling likely voters, I think Dat has an excellent chance of winning.

Yeah, I was thinking this too last night-- editing Dat as the underdog would definitely be one way for the LCS producers to make good tv. Especially since Dat's setting himself up as a the earnest good guy-- a sheep in wolf's clothing. He's playing the deep thinker role too. I keep waiting for him to quote Sun-Tzu's "The Art of War."

The thing is, though, that it REALLY seems like Cory, Rich, Dave, Ralphie, and Tess spent A LOT of time thinking about how much they hated Dat and how much they wanted him gone.

Are they that bored that they need to waste time obsessing about Dat? Admit it-- they seemed obsessed! Ha! That bit them in the ass. He is literally the thorn in their sides.

I dunno about being *obsessed*. They targeted him for eviction, but he beat Mordal, which made (some of) them angry and wanting him out more... BUT they didn't vote for him the next time around, instead choosing Geoff.

The editing makes it look like they're obsessed, but the truth is that only some comments have made the airwaves. We have no real way of knowing what else was said, if a practical joke was played on someone else, etc.

In fact, I'm sure Rich Vos and Dave Mordal were far more obsessed with each other than with Dat Phan It was almost Roddy and Josh from BB3 all over again

Up until last week, it said Dat was from Santee, CA. Heck, I wasn't even sure where that was, and I'm from Southern California. Last week, he was billed as being from San Diego, MUCH greater name recognition. Don't know if that is significant or not.

I think Dat was funnier than Geoff, and while he might not be as funny as Dave, he has much more stage presence. And that's what this competition is all about.

BTW, glad to see there are others out there who think Ralphie will win!!

I am with SOL on this one, Dat was funnier LAST NIGHT but he was not funnier than Dave.

I am just wondering if Dat has enough material to make it all the way to win the final?

I keep looking at this with who is funniest and who america<cough NBC cough> will want to do a development deal with.

Of the ones left. I like Rich and Ralphie, but I don't see either one getting a development deal. I do see either Tess or dat getting one.

I have to ask. Am I the only one who doesn't find Ralphie funny? I watched his routine against Rob and didn't even crack a smile. Most of the others have at least gotten a chuckle at some point. I know humor is subjective and I'm just not getting why everyone is saying he should win.

Personally, I find him hysterical, but you're right about it being subjective. I like the fact that he's not afraid to be "politically incorrect" (I HATE that term!) And while I normally can't stand the wannabes, something about him just cracks me up.

I think he is far and away the funniest of the group, at least at the standup thing. And if I were inclined to call in and vote on this stuff, which I'm not, I'd vote for him.

Ralphie's routine against Rob wasn't nearly as funny as the other Ralphie stuff we saw (IMHO) during the two qualifying rounds.

He seemed off his game in the Rob battle. I only laughed out loud once, but I've cracked up at his other stuff. I think his "fat guy" routines are hilarious. They seem much fresher than the stuff he pulled out against Rob.

It seems that like Dat, Ralphie's funniest when he's doing the stuff that's closest to home.

I definitely think he's a comedic powerhouse, but I'm not sure about long-term prospects with a sit-com. Look at the eventual criticism Ruben (from AI) garnered for weight issues. Most people were cool, but his critics got nasty about his health.

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure people are ready to embrace such a heavyweight (pun intended! ) into a mainstream genre (like television, especially sitcoms).

I, for one, would love to see someone other than a size 0 starring in a sitcom (and not one like Less Than Perfect, where the star is treated like a fat girl for being a size 8).

With Ralphie, it would depend on how he was marketed. Frankly, my favorite moments with him on the whole show were when he was working with the little kid during the first show.

I'm with you Bebo. I'd like to see people bigger than a size zero in all areas of television. If America's not ready for it then it should be MADE to be ready for it. (Sound familiar?)

I am with you - Ralphie has not made me laugh once. I am guilty of wanting the 'underdog' to win, but I also admit that he isn't necessarily the funniest person on the show. I thought Dave was pretty funny, guess because I liked his style. Tess is a Star Jones wannabe, she is very arrogant but I do find her funny. Cory is just plain mean. I like Rich but not sure if he is gonna win this thing. Bottom line is...I don't know who is gonna win!
