We start the episode with a visit from the medic to check in on Bopper's leg, which is in pretty bad shape.

They do make it for the start of this leg at 9:06 pm... we're off to India!

Vanessa and Ralph are the last to leave at 1:31 in the morning, 4 hours or so after the leaders.

They're all taking a bus to Thevara. Mark is ready to barf for the umpteenth time even before his bus takes off.

They arrive at Sacred Heart College in Thevara. Once there, the road block requires teams to dance a series of moves in choreography with Bollywood dancers.

Wonder how intense they will be about the judging. From SYTYCD some of the moves can be pretty intricate and a wrong hand position can mean something different than the choreographer intended.

None of the first three seem to have any rhythm going at all so far...

The fun starts now - Mark just arrived and is about to dance, not long after puking up a storm on the bus. Dehydration, anyone?

J.J. first try... terrible, director yelled cut and told him to get off stage.

Blonde Rachel first try... she nailed it! Got the clue to go to The Indian Coffee House for their next clue.

Vanessa first try... director gives thumb down. Booooo.

Mark complains of dizziness while still practicing.

BB Rachel first try... director says NO. Booooo.

Rachel and Dave arrive at the detour - cricket, master the skill of cricket to hit one ball to a boundary or clutch it, drive a three-wheeled rickshaw taxi around an obstacle course. Rachel and Dave decide to go do the rickshaw taxi.

Whoever is complaining dudes can't look like girls...am I blind or are there some dudes doing the Bollywood groups?

Nope, there are definitely guys doing the dancing too. I think one of the teachers is a guy, too.

Dang, Mark is really sweating heavy, looks like he's ready to collapse.

Yeah it looks like it's well over 100 degrees there with the sun bearing down on them. They really need to get some water to Mark as we haven't seen him (or anyone else) have a drink.

Cricket vs Clutch It.

Driving a three wheeled auto rickshaw. This could be humorous.

Even though I'm a pretty good hitter, I'd like to do the rickshaw!

J.J. 2nd attempt - boooo, get off the stage.

Mark is not doing well at all in practice. It's hot, he's not feeling well and the guy training him is slapping his forehead.

BB Rachel 2nd attempt - director slashes his throat. Rachel goes into a hissy fit.

Rachel and Dave tries again with the rickshaw. The guy with them goes out and does airplane flying motions to stimulate how Dave should drive the rickshaw. Funny. Dave tries driving. Guy comes up to him and says "That was a fail!"

"RE: Detour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 08:33 PM
Mark's worrying about a heart attack.

Brendon's giving Rachel a pep talk.

Mark's 1st attempt - not even close. Director slashes throat again.

Vanessa 3rd attempt - she gets the clue!

Mark starts to cave in.

BB Rachel's 4th attempt - she nails it!

Mark says he's ready to get sick again.

"RE: Detour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 08:38 PM
J.J. 4th attempt - he gets the clue!

There's just Mark left to finish this roadblock. Looks like we have our eliminated team here, based on how Mark is struggling...

Mark 3rd attempt - nope, badly out of sync. He's now completely soaked through his clothing.

Blonde Rachel is now trying her hand at driving the rickshaw. She's better than Dave but slower....but gets it done! She gets the clue for them... off to the pit stop at Bolgatty Palace, a heritage landmark.

The rickshaws do look like fun, at least once you get a bit of the way up the learning curve.

I would have done the cricket. Always go for the sport.

At the detour...

Vanessa is first to give it a shot with the rickshaw taxi. Off to a bumpy start so far...

The BB team and JJ/Art elect to do the cricket detour. Rachel is first up at bat!

Mark makes his 4th, 5th and 6th attempts. Director says nope, try again. They discuss whether to keep trying or give up. Mark says keep going.

At the pit stop... Rachel and Dave arrives first! They win a trip to St. Lucia.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 08:48 PM
JJ is now directing his anger at the bowler on the cricket pitch, "So now you're throwing curve balls!" He finally nails one.

Mark 7th attempt. He's ready to pass out but tries again, won't give up even though Bopper suggests to take the penalty. Director says NOPE.

Vanessa's still driving the rickshaw. Now they're clapping, seems like she's doing a good job.

Rachel/Brendon and JJ/Art are still batting on the cricket pitch. Rachel clobbers one! Art comes up just short.

Finally, Art hits one out and they get their clue.

Vanessa and Ralph complete the detour and get their clue.

Bopper and Mark are now discussing their options.

Mark makes his 9th, 10th and 11th attempts. Still no go from the director. Bopper says let's go home. Mark says no, I can do it, I'm just sick that's all, we need the money, brak brak brak.

Brendon and Rachel arrives at the pit stop in 2nd place.

Finally I see a bottle of water in Mark's hand. He decides to stop right there and get out of his clothes. Smart move, it wasn't worth risking his health and taking care of his family for some money.

There should have been communication between the director and the people at the roadblock so that, once the 4 teams had completed the roadblock, the director could have been less strict with Mark. It was pointless to refuse that 11th attempt.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 08:57 PM
Since it was a non-elim, they should not have relaxed the standards for Mark. I know that doesn't sound very nice, but it wasn't fair to the other teams who will have to compete against Bopper/Mark in the next episode.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by michel on 04-22-12 at 09:05 PM
Yes, I wrote before knowing it was a NEL. Still, they could have made the speed bump more difficult to even things out.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by CTgirl on 04-23-12 at 10:12 PM
I think there was some producer interference in getting Mark to come out the last time. I don't think he nailed it that time either but they didn't want him to quit since it was a NEL.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Starshine on 04-23-12 at 03:28 AM
Well that Cricket task was about 10 times easier than it needed to be, someone had obviously told the bowlers to slow it down and loop it up. Even I could have scored double figures on an over of that!

Differences in sports for me a ball hitting the ground and moving is what I would expect, facing one just coming through the air would be tricky

While I wasn't rooting for Rachel, I'm kinda glad she beat the macho dudes at hitting a Cricket ball.

Mark gives up, he can't do it, Bopper is okay with the decision. lot of episode left with everyone else at or headed to pitstop, and Bopper & Mark way way back.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by michel on 04-22-12 at 08:59 PM
This would have been a great final episode for Mark and Bopper. If they get a final leg that looks anything like Nary and Jaime's last leg it will make their exit less heroic. Stupid NEL.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by dabo on 04-22-12 at 09:02 PM
Yes, it would have been a very sympathetic exit episode. I'm impressed Mark went back out to complete the task, I thought he'd decided to quit and they would take the penalty (4 hours, whatever it is). They were so far behind it wouldn't have mattered anyway in an elimination leg.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by kidflash212 on 04-22-12 at 09:07 PM
Did this NEL feel like a last minute producer save to anyone else? Did to me.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 09:09 PM
Agree. I think they realized that they had a nice story going with Mark's struggles and also Bopper overcoming a bad knee.

If this was 'Survivor', the producers would have made sure they got the fan favourite vote...

Does anyone know the prize money for the teams that don't win? I know it for Survivor but I never heard what is the payout for the other teams in TAR. I'm not even sure if there is any money for them.

"RE: TAR 20 - Episode 9 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"

I did read the prizes for the non winning teams somewhere - I think it graduated down from $250,000 for 2nd place.

"Pit Stop - Results"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 08:56 PM
1st - Rachel/Dave
2nd - Brendon/Rachel
3rd - Art/JJ
4th - Vanessa/Ralph

Bopper and Mark continue to discuss whether they should try and finish it for their kids. Mark is convinced to give it another try.

Mark 12th attempt - clearly still not in tune, but they give it to him (no doubt the producers said "let them go").

They go on and do the rickshaw taxi detour.

NOT Philiminated...Bopper/Mark! It's a non-elim...

Yahoo! I got a perfect score in the casino! I think it's the first time I've ever gotten the bonus even if I have been playing for the last 12 seasons or so. I really wanted Rachel to beat JJ at cricket!

Any body else curious about the "Vanessa> "I hit the Alamo once" story?

"RE: Pit Stop - Results"
Posted by dabo on 04-22-12 at 09:15 PM
Yeah, that seemed odd. I don't think you could drive a car too close to the structure itself. You could maybe scrape a wall in a motorized wheelchair.

The Alamo is surrounded by streets, and one side in particular, actually the only part of the original structure that still exists, has only a sidewalk between it and the traffic.

So it could be. Traffic is slow in that area, but an inebriated partier could drop a drink in her lap (for example, and there are times when inebriated partiers abound) and veer into it. Or maybe it's a cell phone caused incident. I would like to hear the story.

Is the Guru (Cahaya) still doing interviews?

"RE: Pit Stop - Results"
Posted by dabo on 04-24-12 at 01:43 PM
Well, the interviews are being done by Kwiatkowski, whoever that may be. Is that a real name?

Didn't know that about the Alamo, but haven't been there but once when I was very young, TY.

"RE: Pit Stop - Results"
Posted by featherfish81 on 04-24-12 at 02:08 PM
Was anyone else unsurprised it was a NEL? Bopper and Mark were the only team that was shown having troubles in the previews, so it was obvious they weren't going to be eliminated. When everyone else got to the Pit Stop before them, I figured it would have to be a NEL.

Creepy guys painted as tigers, extending their bellies.

BB Rachel throws a super-meltdown, mumbling something about paying $500 for hair extensions.

Vanessa falls and hits the pavement HARD. She's injured her ankle and is bleeding on the shoulder.

"RE: Next week..."
Posted by michel on 04-22-12 at 09:03 PM
I heard her mention extensions so I'm thinking they have to shave their heads for a fast forward!!! Brendon had a clean shaven head in BB so it won't be a problem for him!

"RE: Next week..."
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 04-22-12 at 09:08 PM
Rachel's already got a ton of money from her BB experience and she'll get even more money on this race - if it involves head shaving or whatever, suck it up! She's got money to buy a temporary wig.

"RE: Next week..."
Posted by michel on 04-22-12 at 09:14 PM
Yes, but we will all see her racing with a bald head!! That will kill her!

"RE: Next week..."

SHAVE HER! SHAVE HER!! SHAVE HER!!!

Besides wanting to point and laugh I do think it might be a good growth experience for her.

SHAVE HER!! SHAVE HER!! SHAVE HER!!

Just to make it clear... ON HER HEAD.

Of course her head, surely she'd had every other hair follicle on her body lasered to death.

That was one of the most sexist episodes of anything, anywhere, any genre, any time.

"RE: Just for the record:"
Posted by byoffer on 04-23-12 at 03:31 PM
Painfully so.

Both from all the comments (re dancing, re rickshaw driving, re cricket - were there even more??) and from the design of the challenges themselves.

I felt badly for the guys trying to learn the dance routine. It did look very tough (and long!). Not that guys can't learn a dance routine, but most don't have any experience with learning such things. IMO a very hard thing to do without some practice.

The cricket, though it didn't turn out that way, should have favoured guys.

Both challenges were very subjective. I realize that many challenges involve judging when something is complete, but judging a dance even more so.

And the cricket, while not judged, sure could be controled by the bowler. I will bet $$ that BB Rachel got easier balls to hit (and easier defense) that did Art.

Overall a crappy episode from an equality perspective, probably put in place to make competitors look bad. Maybe that is why they went with a non-elim.
