"Rob and Amber Against the Odds"

Anybody else watching? I love the show....but of course I would 'iloverob'.

I have a feeling based on what we have seen so far that Rob fails at poker. Actually, he would probably be a better poker player than a Texas Holdem Poker player. I play poker well, but I don't play Texas Holdem well. Like Rob, I don't have enough patience. You MUST have patience to play that game. I want to play; not throw most hands away.

I'm really enjoying the show. I'm looking forward to his reaction to her apartment selection. I assume we will see that tonight.

Eeeew, no. I had heard about the show but didn't know it was on. I'm not a Romber fan. I think their 15 minutes "fame" should have been over long ago.
It's a shame that Rob does not have a likeable personality. Technically he is really good looking but when he opens his mouth he ruins it for me. Sorry to disagree, but at least we seem to agree that he is good looking!

I've watched this show and so far from what I've seen it seems pretty boring. I think that their 15 minutes of fame should of been up a long time ago. I think the only reason why their doing another reality tv show is just so they could be on tv and to get attention. Also Rob comes across as being really annoying.

I haven't watched it nor will I. I think I am getting tired of seeing the same batch of DAWs that are just milking their tv time for all it's worth.

I've been watching as well. Rob & Amber's relationship may be too functional for a reality show because it's obvious the show has scripted some of the squabbles they've had to try to add drama. For example, Amber's line about Rob acting like he's Brad Pitt was very obviously dubbed in after the fact. While their couple status has kept their 15 minutes alive, they really do keep private things that should be private, which is refreshing for a reality show couple. I didn't see Amber's original Survivor season, but I adored Rob in Season 4. I liked Amber in SAS mostly because it was obvious that Rob was smitten, but over time Amber has actually become my favorite of the pair (although I still really like Rob too).

ITA. The way the 'get over yourself' scene was advertised, it looked like a pretty bad argument was going to happen. Instead, he kinda agreed and they went on their merry way; but then again, Rob is a producer on the show, so I guess it could have been worse and edited.

I didn't care for Amber on her season or SAS, but I began to like her on the Amazing Race, and I really like her now. She puts up with his stuff. Not many women would. They just get along so well. He is just so cute and they are cute together.

I can't wait for ASAR!!!!

I just watched all the episodes of, "Rob and Amber Against the Odds for the" on a reality remix marathon. Eventhough, the show is rather boring. They don't do anything except play poker and occasionally argue. Sort of like, "Poker After Hours",meets, "Newlyweds" except this time the husband is the dumb one.

Rob and Amber seem like nice people that you would enjoy knowing and having a beer with, but they seem like such a mismatched couple. Other than being two attractive people, they don't seem to have a whole lot in common. Had Amber not have won a million dollars on, "Survivor". I don't think this couple would have a chance of a long term relationship. And once their 15 minutes of fame are gone, (which should have happened 4 years ago) I don't see them being together.

Eventhough, I laugh at Rob's comments about his own supreme Poker playing ability. I feel a little bit sorry for him as well. I can tell Rob has the characteristic of a Las Vegas tourist. That believes he can roll into to town. Win the big one and be set for life.

How I determine that is I use to travel a lot to Las Vegas when I lived in Arizona and met a lot of professional gamblers. (And make no mistake about it, just because Poker Tournaments are glorified on almost every station now. You are still just a professional gambler) Being a professional gambler is a very difficult life. You just can't have a big bank roll and get some advise from a few tournament winners and 'Presto' your going to win 7 million in, "The World Series of Poker". It's usually something you do because you can't make the kind of money gambeling, if you were doing anything else. Unfortunatly, more times than not peoples gambling carriers doesn't end well.

Besides why is Rob gambeling at all? He has a beautiful wife who's loaded. He supposidly has skills in construction? Rob, take your wife and 15 minutes of fame and get a real job. Don't risk your marriage and your families future on the immediate highs and lows of the poker table.

Yes, they are. I have and would again. Great people.

but they seem like

Don't believe everything you see on TV. They are very well matched.

Other
>than being two attractive people,

I don't know Rob's family, but I do know Amber's and how and where she was brought up. The biggest thing they don't have in common is that he's from Boston and she's from a middle class suburb of Pittsburgh. Other than that, they have similar values, religious upbringing, and educational background. A lot of what you see of them on TV is them playing the roles that have made them famous.

>Had Amber not have won
>a million dollars on, "Survivor".

I disagree. They have actually seemed very happy when they have been here visiting. I think they'll surprise a lot of people and last. You have to remember that they are playing characters when they are on TV. IRL, they seem happy, grounded, and level headed.

>Besides why is Rob gambeling at

Well, Rob really doesn't need to do construction work anymore. He won $250,000 as the runner up on SAS. And they were both paid millions for their televised wedding. Rob is just having some fun and, again, making some cash off of his fun. You don't seriously think he's really going to do this for a living or that Amber's going to allow him to throw her money away on this, do you? Believe me, that's not going to happen. And they are getting paid for this show, so I don't think he's endangering anything about their future.

I'm so glad to hear that they make a good couple in real life. I believe that comes across on the show and that it really came across in the Amazing Race.

I, unlike others, hope they have many more hours of fame. I enjoy watching them no matter what the venue. I wish them all the best and hope they continue to entertain us.

I didn't know that they recieved so much for a televised wedding. Or even that their wedding was televised.

Hey, if they're happy, secure, enjoying themselves and want to follow their dream? Then more power to them. But believe me..It's real dangerous to be playing around with your money in Las Vegas if you don't know what you're doing. No matter how rich you are. I've seen it happen to some very good people, and it effects the rich, well-off and average income person with equal results.

We watch these championship poker games, and think it's just so easy to win a championship tournament. Casino's love these mis-perceptions. It makes casino's appear to be a glammerous way to get a lot of money real fast. Which serves as a distraction on the fact that casino's are constructed and exsist for the sole objective to take peoples money. Which they usually do if the hotels and casinos can keep the dreamers and suckers playing long enough.

Las Vegas has exsisted on this princple for over 60 years. Unfortunately, coming in second on "Survivor" doesn't prepare you to beet these odds that or so over whelmingly stacked against you. And it doesn't appear that Rob or Amber are aware enough of themselves, or the city to avoid this harsh reality. But it does make for some good television to see what happens.

Geg6, you know them, and I don't, except through the filter of edited tv shows. However, Rob has shown himnself to be always looking to screw over some other contestant and looking out for himself ....this is the same profile of a professional gambler. Gamblers have a narcisistic personality, and Rob has it down to a T.

I have a gambler in my family, and I know the type very well. When Amber's looks fade, and they will over time, Rob will still think of himself as the arrogant stud. He will dump Amber quicker than a New York (or Boston) minute. His arrogance is not edited...it is present in everything that has been shown in his multiple tv appearances, and it is who he is. Do you recall how angry his fellow contestants were at Rob at the final tribal council in Survivor All Stars? Their anger was personal, and it was all directed as to how Rob is as a person....not at his skills at playing the game of Survivor.

Good luck to Amber...she is going to need it if they stay together.

Only time will tell, but I think that Rob is in it for the long haul with Amber. Since his first Survivor season, Rob has said on a number of occasions that family comes first for him. Right after their engagement, Rob mentioned that one of the key qualities about Amber that really drew him to her was that she was also very family-oriented. Rob & Amber were quoted in OK Magazine recently as saying that they want kids pretty soon. I really don't see him as the type of guy to sacrifice his family for a hotter girl on his arm once Amber's looks start to fade.

As for the gambling, I do think his personality is such that he may be a bit more likely to develop a gambling problem than the average Joe based on the fact he's very aggressive & very competitive, but that doesn't mean he will have a problem. My grandfather, dad, and uncle all had/have compulsive gambling tendencies with my uncle having the most serious problem. In my dad's case, it was my mom's wrath that got him to cutback to betting reasonable amounts of money. Amber seems pretty conservative financially so I think she'll keep an eye on Rob's gambling and step in if she has to, like my mom did.

geg, you may know Amber's family, but Rob probably isn't any more "from Boston" than Amber is from Pittsburgh. Rob grew up -- and at the time of his original Survivor participation, was still living in -- Canton, MA, a middle class suburb that's about 25 miles outside of Boston. Where's Beaver, 30 miles outside Pittsburgh?

That's just the way folks from Massachusetts are -- if you live within 50-75 miles of Boston, you're "from Boston." And all of New England wears Red Sox hats on a regular basis.

>Well, Rob really doesn't need to do construction work anymore.
>He won $250,000 as the runner up on SAS.
>And they were both paid millions for their televised wedding.

I don't know what the local gossip around the Beaver area might be or what tall tales Rob might like telling down at the bar, but there's no way they were personally "paid millions" for the rights to their wedding.

The entire production budget for the two-hour special -- ie., the amount of money that CBS paid the production company to create and produce the thing -- was probably a couple of million tops. Take out the production company's costs, etc. and I doubt the check that Rob and Amber saw was for much more than a combined $500-750k. Sure, sponsors might have donated hotel ooms, airfare, food, facilities, etc. worth tens of thousands of dollars or more, but other than the home furnishing, etc. those items were largely intangible things that are now nothing but memories and can't be resold, etc.

Not only was CBS' interest in broadcasting the special significantly motived by the fact that it was inexpensive one-shot unscripted programming, but they certainly wouldn't have "paid millions" for the special only to then turn around and completely waste such expensive programming by airing it directly against American Idol's fourth season finale.

Heck, Trista and Ryan only got $1 million for their wedding, and that was a three-part miniseries that was a much bigger media event than Rob and Amber's wedding telecast.

Word is (from people who were there and who are either in or close to the family) that the entire tab for the wedding, including all travel expenses for them and all their guests for a week, all the food and beverages, all accommodations for them and their guests for a week, the wedding bands, the gifts for each other, all the travel for planning purposes, all cinematography and photography, entertainment, bridal gown/bridesmaid's gowns/groom's and groomsman's attire, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, furniture for their new home, and every other expense you can imagine for a wedding was paid for by CBS. In addition, they were paid a straight sum of about a million, which after taxes would probably match your figure.

I don't know how many weddings you've planned or had on that scale, but I can guarantee you that the six months of travel and planning before the wedding itself, the actual wedding in a very expensive first class resort, and the travel and accommodations for all the guests easily added up to another million.

Her father told me that CBS spent at least 9 million on the whole special. That's the whole shebang including CBS's production costs. Val doesn't tend to exaggerate or lie that I have ever discovered.

EEERRRRPPPP! They both make me want to blow chunks! I wish they would just GO AWAY already and get off my television!
