"TAR 18 Finale ECST"

Posted by vince3 on 05-08-11 at 07:21 PM
Please keep all details of the 4-way Race toward the Final Destination in Miami here until the West Coast gets to see how accurate the 'Photo Finish' advertisements for tonight are...

Now, our teams going into the Finale are:

Flight Time/Big Easy, or the Globetrotters, who finished 4th in TAR 15 because they ended up having to take a 4-hour penalty for Roadblock FAIL in their season's penultimate leg...

Kisha/Jen, or the Sista Act (or, as it turned out I called them back then, Soul Sistahs...), who finished 4th in TAR 14 (because they had to make a bathroom break in the penultimate leg...)

Zev/Justin, who finished 9th in TAR 15, because they lost their travel papers on a leg that they would've won if they had them...

Gary/Mallory, who finished in 6th TAR 17 because they got mega-lost in the Arab desert before they got eliminated...

Golf managed to end on time, so no worries about that there...

Also of note: Next week for Survivor's Finale? Golf is on NBC! There is no sporting events at all scheduled on CBS... at least for my area.

Globetrotters?

Strategy?

"Departure times"
Posted by vince3 on 05-08-11 at 08:12 PM
Trotters 7:12am
Sista Act 7:15am
Gary/Mallory 7:18am
Zev/Justin 7:31am

Make your way to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil! To the world famous steps, and look for a tile that looks like a Route Marker to get their next clue...

Both of the first two teams are re-living that this was the leg that they were eliminated in...

Bunch Point! and everyone is on the same train to Zurich... as Zev/Justin also reminisce about their first time... when they were eliminated by a somewhat fluke of losing their travel papers....

Oooh.... Trotters and Zev/Justin are on a flight that arrives at 7:30am... Gary/Mallory and Sista Act are getting a flight that arrives at 5:40pm.... until Trotters are in the same travel agency as Gary/Mallory and Sista Act and have a Poker Face FAIL! that alerts them to something might be better...

All on the 7:30am flight...

RAPIDO!

Posted by MsShel330 on 05-08-11 at 08:17 PM
ROFL! Yes, I noticed that. We should resurrect Canada Girl's TAR drinking game and incorporate "Rapido" in it. Of course it would have to be on a holiday since we'd be waayyy to trashed to make it to work the next day.

OT, has anyone seen single bottles of TAR Snapple? I've only seen it in cases and I don't want that much since I don't know if I'll like it.

"RE: It's the return of our favorite word..."

My local supermarkets have it by the single bottle, but that doesn't help anyone else much.

It's helpful because I was wondering if it was only sold by the case. I'll keep looking. Thanks.

Just miss the Trolley and might have to wait 30 minutes! However, the trolley might be coming back for them, much to the dismay of the other teams...

Who's not afraid to shake in their boots?

Get into Samba costume and lead your troop to a judge... who will then say if you've done a good job or not...

Zev is up for his team, as is Mallory (Zev to even them out going into the Final Leg...)

"RE: TAR 18 Finale ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 05-08-11 at 08:24 PM
Sista Act are badly lost, and they're now having flashbacks to their last leg in their previous time....

Meanwhile, we get more Samba lessons for Zev and Mallory... and Mallory is on her way first!

Not low enough.

We're in a Dandrew situation: the only ways he gets out of this are miracle or judge mercy. (There's also the penalty, but we don't know how long each attempt takes. The judge may want to go home eventually.)

On the Rocks or On the Beach

Rocks: Make 100 Caparinas (sp?) Brazil's most popular drink...

Beach: Change into bikinis and then sell bikinis to beach-goers and then have to make approximately $60 US to get their next clue

Wish I could have done that task - many years ago I worked in a restaurant that had the caipirinha as a specialty. MAde those many times. It's not made with rum but cachaca.

"Back at the Roadblock"

Zev finally passes!

The Trotter FAILS first then Passes! Everyone else is heading to the waxing.... except:

Gary/Mallory are doing Rocks for the Detour.

"RE: TAR 18 Finale ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 05-08-11 at 08:42 PM
It takes a bit of wasted liquor, but Gary/Mallory have started to make acceptable drinks...

Sista Act and Trotters escape the waxing, and choose Rocks apiece...

Meanwhile, it's a horror show for the very hairy Zev/Justin as they're getting their WAXING!!! YEOUCH!

Mixology Race! Gary cut himself on the shaker rim...

Gary/Mallory are at 34, Sista Act are in the single digits as are Trotters...

Zev/Justin are so hairy, that 15 minutes isn't enough time to completely do the job!

So, are they going to inflict their bald spots on Phil?

"Oh, Kelly Clarkson!"
Posted by Estee on 05-08-11 at 08:46 PM
Lots of problems with the bikini task. Not only is Zev anything other than a natural salesman and the changing tube is a joke, but from what I saw of the display umbrellas, they've got a ridiculously limited size range -- plus some of those styles went out of fashion right around the time yellow polka dots did. Unless this beach is preloaded with buyers, they're in trouble.

"RE: TAR 18 Finale ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 05-08-11 at 08:44 PM
I guess you don't need to change into a bikini to sell them... but those that buy them apparently have to... Zev/Justin try selling bikinis and are having major issues...

Meanwhile the drinks are piling up for the other three teams...

"RE: TAR 18 Finale ECST"
Posted by michel on 05-08-11 at 08:51 PM
It sure looks like Zev and Justin will be eliminated but they went out big! I couldn't stop laughing when they were getting waxed. Also, even if he was having problems, Zev really tried to learn that dance and have fun.

Gary/Mallory are almost done, Sista Act at 58, Trotters at 50

Make your way to the Pit Stop: Museum for Contemporary Art, and the beach below it....

Gary/Mallory escape Rocks first... Zev/Justin are still trying to sell and finally decide to head to Rocks...

Gary/Mallory are Team Number 1!!!!! They win a cruise on the Med. Sea... If they win, Gary might be the oldest to win TAR...

Zev/Justin arrive at Rocks right as Sista Act leave for the Pit Stop... Trotters are at 76 drinks now...

I'm about to get choked up over Zev and Justin being out. This is one of the few times that I've liked all of the teams in the final 4. I'm good with any of them winning.

Sista Act are officially 2nd

Trotters are heading their 3rd, and Zev/Justin have a drink before heading to their Philimination....

If they could have sold just five (they were asking for 20 and only had to make 100) they may well have been in first. They were just not good salesmens.

Gary/Mallory get directions to the Marina as the other two teams are heading to the next task...

Gary is doing the Roadblock... and it looks like they may gain some of that lost time...

Trotters plan: Pay their driver, he gets gas and then comes back for them...

The other member now must use a personal submarine to find a treasure chest with their next clue... (Now we know why they needed to be absolutely even going into this leg...)

"RE: Roadblock"

Trotters find their taxi, which was on their way back, apparently... or at least caught another one...

Kisha/Jen have taken the lead as Trotters get directions...

Mallory's turn to head underwater for the treasure chest....

Sista Act find the next clue: They have to walk across the shallow part of the ocean to Horeshoe Island where the tallest tree will have their next clue...

Sista Act find it first, and it says Time for you to pick up speed...

They get a speedboat ride toward the next clue location...

Gary/Mallory appear to be catching up!!!

Sista Act gets another clue... Create a Trailerhood... and using a brochure for reference to help them set it up... Trotters are there next up.

The locals are like 'WTF?' as both teams are starting to set things up... Gary/Mallory are also trying to shield some of the splashes with towels... with limited success....

Me too. And Key Largo and Big Pine Key. And the Seven Mile Bridge where the bridge sequences for True Lies was shot. You can still see the marks left on the bridge left by the charges for the machine gun shots.

In the hot Florida sun that section of the Seven Mile Bridge gets longer and longer when walking it.

Interesting to see places one is familiar with show up in the Race.

They were on the "old" bridge.
The new bridge is built with a high point that allows sail boats to pass under. The old bridge was low. It's cut in half just past that island (key) where they ended; then starts back up again going on to the next key.

I was hoping for a Zev and Justin win because I don't like it when the winning team didn't win any legs but at least they were never at the back of the pack so Keisha and Jen aren't bad winners.

I didn't like that last task either. I always like those memory challenges to finish things because it makes us look back.

(Do people really live in trailers on the keys...right on the path of hurricanes??? Smart!)

I didn't like any of the tasks this last leg. There should be tasks that have the potential to change the results - a tough mental task or something. Once Gary & Mallory fell behind they had no chance to get back in it.

"RE: The winners of TAR 18 are..."

I completely agree.
& since it was a taxi driver that completely screwed them, it seemed so unfair!
I would much rather have them be given a car to drive themselves; then they have the responsibility of getting directions themselves and getting there.

Kisha and Jen win 1 million dollars. The 2nd time in a row that an all female team wins the Amazing Race!
And, if I may say, 3 out of 4 have been women of color. I'm very happy about that.

I would say this win by Kisha & Jen was more impressive than the Doctors win. Last season, there were no Alpha Male teams cast and very few tasks were strength based (it was search task after search task). Kisha & Jen faced a lot tougher competition and the tasks were not watered down to enhance an all female teams chance to win.

Great job Kisha & Jen!

And I just have to say - Kris is one fine looking man. I wish we could have seen more of him.
