"TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"

Previously: 10 teams left the Outback for Japan.

A car accident delayed the Cheerleaders from the start, while Zev/Justin got another 1st.

Mel/Mike ended up having to be pulled from the Race because of the hypothermic conditions... and were eliminated.

There you are, was wondering if I was going to have to start this.

Still trying to get used to this on time start streak.

Don't faint, but I think the Race will start on time during the Tournament... I saw the TV Guide listings for next Sunday, and it appears that any game that might start near Race time will be on the other networks of TBS, TNT, Tru TV...

M&M never looked that healthy to me. I don't know what they were thinking to enter again.

"Departure times"
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 08:09 PM
(One wonders what condition the area that they were in last week and will be leaving tonight is in after the Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami...)

Zev/Justin: 8:44pm

Make your way to Jade Dragon Mountain in Li Jang, China. Teams are provided a mandatory flight into another city in China and then they can book their own passage to Li Jan.

Gary/Mallory 9:29pm
Ron/Christina 9:38pm
Sista Act 9:50pm
Globetrotters: 10:01pm, after a 30 minute penalty.
Cowboys 10:34pm
Goths 10:39pm or so... Lucky 7? Positive Mental Attitude... and they already have car issues.
Margie/Luke 11:52pm
Cheerleaders 12:42am

Goths are mega-lost on their way to the airport...

That area of Tokyo wouldn't have been too terribly affected from the earthquake - my mother was right near the area of Commodore Perry's Landing which is just about 10 miles past Yokohama from Tokyo. No tsunamis in that part of the country.

Unlock the car by pushing the lock button on the remote, and now they are lost and and panicking, K&V are going the wrong way.

This is positive thinking is hard!

Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 08:20 PM
Goths are gonna miss their mandatory flight into China... and Vyxsin gets deja vu from what happened in their last leg in Italy... This time Vyxsin was the navigator...

The flight is boarding and there is no sign of the Goths... and the replacement flight departs in the afternoon... they hope to intercept the others in China.

Decision time: Catch a plane or take a train to Li Jang. Two trains depart at 8:50 and 10:16...

Ron/Christina catch the first train, and sneak out.

All the other teams save the Goths are on the 10:16 train...

Goths arrive in China at 1:35am. They're stuck until morning...

Ron/Christina's train arrives around 5:38 in the morning. They make a food stop before they continue on their way.

Connecting shuttle to the mountain starts working at 8:00am...

Adding to their issues, Vyxsin temporarily looses her passport! Fortunately, though, because the airport was so dead, they find it before it gets put in lost/found...

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 08:22 PM
Goths arrive in Li Jang at 8:15, still have to get to the mountain...

Yak Yak Yak! Battle a Yak!

They must saddle and then ride a Yak across a river... GOOD LUCK!

(Will one be broken? )

I google mapped Japan to China I got

Jet-skiing from Japan to China wouldn't have made a difference for Kent and Vyxsin -- they'd still have found a way to get lost, and might even have arrived on the LOST island with their ability to read maps...

Ride a gondola to Spruce Meadow, nearly 3 miles above sea level...

Just sprinting to the Gondola nearly knocked some teams out...

Altitude nearly 15,000 feet...

ROADBLOCK!: Who's living a Charmed Life?

They must search for charms that have all 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and then put them IN THE CORRECT ORDER! on a wind chime...

Vyxsin's riding the Yak...

Mallory's the first out of the Roadblock and then shows Luke the correct order. Christina departs 2nd, Luke 3rd

Travel to the Old Town Lijang.

Fly and the cost is paid via your Race credit card. Take the train and the tickets have to be accounted for from your leg funds. If nothing else, Kent & Vyxsin are now ahead of the pack in money saved...

I think Ron may have just become the first person to spend for food on the course in about ten seasons.

And where's the high-altitude tea?

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by MsShel330 on 03-13-11 at 08:38 PM
Ron and Christina got on the wrong bus, rather they got on a shuttle thingy rather than the marked bus. Luckily for them Flight Time and Big Easy told the bus driver to wait for R&C.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by michel on 03-13-11 at 10:46 PM
They can't slow down other racers but they should also make it a rule to race on your own. Quit that helping each other.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 08:41 PM
Gary/Mallory catch the 1at marked bus... and crow about still having their Express Pass...

Ron/Christina don't get on the right bus...

Now because they missed the mandatory flight, the Goths are worried about getting a time penalty.... Christina tries to intercept the bus, and they board the Trotter's bus! talk about Karma!

Zev can't get the concept of putting them in the correct order...

Teams must 'verbally' announce their wish and deposit their wishes in their correct Chinese Zodiac symbols...

Detour: Hammer or Horn

Hammer: Pound out some candy!

Horn: Make their way to a square and pick up a MASSIVE horn and lead a parade to a temple...

Lots of Oxes and Rooster... and the Trotters can't figure out their signs...

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 08:44 PM
Now we see what Zev's last issue was: He had 2 Goats instead of a Horse...

Turns out a Trotter has Dragon for their sign...

Ron's hungry again, and is slowing them down again...

Hammer kinda looks similar to what I've seen about rice pounding for rice cakes... and Ron takes time to snack on their candy...

Vyxsin's breaking down again as she fails to find charms...

Bad leg, but you have to add in altitude dizziness and lack of body adjustment. She's arguably not operating at full capacity right now.

Me too. I felt so bad for her. The freaking likely caused mistakes that may have been avoided of she kept her head.

Of course, I would maybe freak out too if I didn't see any other teams for two days (or so), then caught up to one only to watch them leave while you're still doing the roadblock.

Cowboys and Gary/Mallory escape Hammer.

Pit Stop: The Eternal Tower.

Zev/Justin arrive at the Detour and choose Horn.

Cowboys, 2nd
Gary/Mallory 3rd
Ron/Christina 4th

"Wondering about something..."
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 09:02 PM
What if, for maybe or maybe not this season only... All of the non-elimination legs are basically treated like Super Legs? At each point that what would be the NEL, Phil then tells them to head out on their next leg, immediately!?!?

"RE: Wondering about something..."
Posted by Estee on 03-13-11 at 09:06 PM
Start a Fanatics thread on it tomorrow? Twice is pushing coincidence.

"RE: Wondering about something..."
Posted by vince3 on 03-13-11 at 09:20 PM
I think we should... Poor Jims, even though it's almost a given that Zev/Justin should reach Phil in 8th, especially with the Goths having to backtrack to get their passports in their fanny pack wayyyyy back at the Gondola... He might have to throw out the results this time...

I think we need to take a closer look at AyaK's spoiler thread to see when the next possible NEL/SuperLeg will be...

How bad was the altitude sickness? And how long does it take for the gondolas to make a trip? That last could come into play next week.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-14-11 at 10:07 PM
Going from my several trips up the gondola in Banff's Sulphur Mountain, it takes 7 minutes to get from the bottom to the top. Sulphur Mountain is about half the height of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, so it shouldn't be more than 15 minutes, tops.

I did not think it was that bad but then we were walking all the time. Those boardwalks go almost to the base of that mountain in the back ground so it's about a 3 mile walk out to that point if I remember correctly (5k). By the time we were done that day I was whipped but we also walked all over town too.

Gondolas were just one part of the trip up the mountain side from the river area. I think you also had 2 "ski/chair lifts" to go up too. Total time was about 30 minutes maybe.

I have been wondering the same thing. They always look to the others to help them along. They are the first team to want to team up. Obviously they don't think they can do anything on their own. Margie is always looking around for help.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep4 ECST"

The Globetrotters haven't been doing anything on their own either, always asking others for help.

The show needs to come up with clues that the contestants can only come up with themselves without any help from others!

OOPS
This should have been about the previous week but I sorta put it in the wrong place.

Wondered why Mel/Mike didn't switch to the other detour.
Yes, they would have been in cold water again, but if they had switched sooner, it might not have been so bad.
