"TAR 18 Ep3 ECST"

Well, the Damocles Hammer of getting hit with an automatic U-Turn at the first Detour was too much for Amanda/Kris to handle and they were eliminated.

Who's up next to be toast? Let's find out.

They are going to have some beautiful children.

Some beautiful, emotionally harassed children.

"Flight Options"

LAST EDITED ON 03-06-11 AT 09:14 PM (EST)

The earlier arrival route has a stop-over in Hong Kong (and allegedly a couple of hours to make the connection...) arrives at 6:00am

Direct flight arrives at 6:15am...

It seems to be a split decision to take the direct flight or not...

Zev/Justin and the Globetrotters head to the booking agent for the connection flight, but there were only two seats remaining. Since the Trotters owed Zev/Justin for giving them the clue on the Leg 1 Roadblock, the Trotters take the direct flight....

As was feared, the connecting flight is having engine trouble, causing delays...

Airplanes are the new taxis?

"RE: Flight Options"
Posted by Estee on 03-06-11 at 09:17 PM
Since the teams got $607 for this leg, I'm guessing the plane charges for each minute parked in traffic.

Considering that they have to buy gas and pay road tolls in Japan, that isn't a lot of money.

that? was not a cowboy hat.
Maybe a child's version of a play/toy hat, but no, not a cowboy hat in any way, shape or form.

It seems that this plane could really but these five teams behind everyone. I think its going to be about an hour delay. I noticed something was going to happen because they kept talking about delays and 15 minutes.

As far as efficient use of space goes, I don't get this. It seems like it would use more room than your standard NYC vertical elevator stack.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep3 ECST"
Posted by vince3 on 03-06-11 at 09:20 PM
Those on the direct flight got word that they would be the first flight arriving in Tokyo (and they arrived on-time, to boot!)

Route Info: Head to the Yabusame Dojo. They had to ask the attendant for a car and then it would appear... Globetrotters and Sista Act arrived at the same time, and Sista Act bascially got their car out first after forcing the Trotter's car to rotate away...

Direct flight arrived 1 1/2 hours late... Goths and Cheerleaders are having driving issues...

Lost leading the stupid it seems....

The Cowboys seem to be lost.

Kisha/Jen currently in 1st

Zev/Justin currently in 2nd

Gary/Mallory leaving Roadblock 3rd

Kynt/Vysxin, Mel and Mike arrive at Roadblock

"Roadblock"
Posted by vince3 on 03-06-11 at 09:26 PM
They have to perform a Yabusame Ritual, which involves Form, Bow and Arrow, and Arrow shooting skills

The final piece will have them shooting on top a wooden horse a bow and arrow toward a target... after getting a spin. Once broken, the target reveals the clue.

The filming style does seem to be old-fashioned...

The second flight convoy seems to be getting very lost...

Zev/Justin broke away from their pack and caught up to the dojo crew...

Cowboys are royally lost.

Sista Act gets out of there first, and they're heading to the Shinto statue near a train station. Zev/Justin and Gary/Mallory are shortly behind

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by vince3 on 03-06-11 at 09:29 PM
Cowboys and Cheerleaders are dead last and lost...

Cheerleaders clipped a local's car, and ruined one of their side mirrors. Since he's calling an insurance agent/police/etc., they're now definitively in DFL....

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by Starshine on 03-07-11 at 01:23 PM
Pah, when I did that in the US I scraped half the side of the car off against a Budweiser lorry.

Amateurs.

Oh yes, and they did call the police, and the copper did try and arrest me for not having insurance despite the fact I was showing him the insurance document at the time. Considering that I only damaged my own car I thought the fine was excessive.

"Detour!"
Posted by vince3 on 03-06-11 at 09:35 PM
Prayer of Purity or Frog of Luck

Purity: Memorize a prayer that is both mental and physical and then stand underneath a 45 degree (F) waterfall for a minute...

Luck: Strip down and search in a mud bog (while being pelted with mud from spectators...) and find a frog...

"RE: Detour!"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 03-06-11 at 09:38 PM
And they are not ready for the mud throwing.

"RE: Detour!"
Posted by jbug on 03-07-11 at 12:20 PM
I thought I heard the "memorize" part & thought that few would choose that detour.
But then it didn't look like they had to memorize anything much at all. Just follow the movements and sounds of the instructor.
Not like memorizing the movements at the roadblock at all.

"RE: TAR 18 Ep3 ECST"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 03-06-11 at 09:40 PM
Harlem Globetrotters really look silly doing the prayers. But I am sure they can handle the water torture.

Cheerleaders are in last as almost everyone else got their Detour clues... and they've left Roadblock in dead last.

Zev/Justin escape Luck first.

Commodore Perry's Landing commemorative marker is the location of the Pit Stop mat for the leg.

Gary/Mallory are out of Luck 2nd.

Sista Act have arrived at Luck, while Globetrotters and Ron/Christina are at Purity

I think the Globetrotters have grabbed Christina's fanny pack, while theirs are in the changing room....

"RE: Fanny Pack mixup"

If ron goes into the changing room, he could get their fanny pack. instead of moaning to christina about it.

Turns out the the Trotters moved Christina's fanny pack to the men's changing room... and when Rob saw that he was double-ticked...

This episode shows why Mallory keeps landing high on my list. 'Whatever it is, bring it on!' She's very much an in-it-for-the-fun Racer -- and those are becoming rare.

Wow, Phil gives the Globetrotters a 30 minute penalty for not taking Christina's fanny pack back up the mountain.

Looks like Globetrotters and Ron/Christina were the only ones to head to Purity...

Zev/Justin finish 1st again. It was still daylight when they checked in.

After night fell, Gary/Mallory and Globetrotters check in...

Mike/Mel are starting to lock up.

Ron/Christina check-in in 4th, but with a now applied 30 minute penalty to the Trotters after Christina explains her frustration, they head into 3rd.

Sista Act check in 5th, moved up to 4th.

Cowboys check in 6th.

Goths check in 7th.

Mike/Mel have to go into a warming van after a while.

Margie/Luke are in 8th.

Cheerleaders are in 9th, convinced that they were gonna be eliminated (they didn't see Mel/Mike in the warming van...)

Mel/Mike are eliminated after finally arriving at the Pit stop.

Zev comes unglued in China...

Rob blows a gasket (again...) because they're going in the wrong direction to catch a bus, apparently...

and the Goths get completely lost, going the opposite/wrong way... to which Vyxsin says, "Bye-bye Amazing Race..."

According to Mel & Mike's interview with our own site, the TAR medics said they both had hypothermia and refused to let them return to the mud pit. They never finished the task and were brought to the Pit Stop for elimination -- still nearly beating Jamie & Cara there.
