"TAR 17- Episode 8 East Coast Spoiler Thread"

I waited to see if anyone else would do this first.

Anywho, we actually started on time here in the States.

The teams leave St. Petersburg and fly to Muscat, Oman. Chad and Stephanie oversleep by 2 hours but lo and behold, the arrive in Oman only 10 minutes after the teams on the 2nd plane. I guess they didn't want them to end up like the 3rd team in Season 1.

In Oman, Chad walks Stephanie a little bit away from the group and proposes. Stephanie, oddly enough, accepts.

Drive yourselves to Jevel Shams and look for the next clue.

So, let me get this straight? They wait overnight to get a clue but they don't do anything there? Stupidest bunching point ever.

Yeah, that was dumb.

Hi there!
I almost started one but thanks for doing this;

2 hours late turns into 15 minutes after the roadblock and a marriage proposal. I guess we know why they overslept!!!

LOL, I was thinking that too although we heard snoring.

Have they ever had teams drive themselves part way and then meet a driver? I thought that was odd.

Rappel down 500 feet and search among hundreds of lamps for Aladdin's ring. When you find it, give to the man for your next clue.

Drive yourself back to Muscat to the Stack of Books. The clue is on top.

Detours:
Water Table, pump water and take it through the designated delivery spot.

Wedding Table - go to the market and get 25 frozen chickens and other ingredients for a traditional wedding dish. After you deliver it to the bridal party, you'll get your next clue.

Two teams (the Doctors and Mallory/dad) are lost. The others team are really zipping trough the tasks so I think I'm going to owe Jims some money!

Wonder if the wedding detour would have been easier.

I'm pretty sure that a few seasons ago when they were in the North African desert, teams were not allowed to drive themselves to a camp. They drove to the edge of the desert, then a driver took over.

Nick and Vicky get a flat but they still have a big lead on the last two teams.

I'm sure the producers were looking forward to the engaged couple choosing the wedding detour rather than delivering water!

Yep. I'm a little annoyed that Chad and Stephanie could oversleep and still be in the top 2.

They must now go to a market and find a vendor to give them frankencense. Then they must find the stall to deliver the incense. After they do, they'll get their next clue.

Mallory said they've been driving for 9 hours???? I didn't know Oman was that big! They are making it look like they are catching up to the doctors but it could be editing.

They have a task after the last detour. Isn't that rare? Ali Baba will probably give them the "open sesame" to the pit stop

Jill and Thomas come in 1st but incur a 1/2 time penalty for paying a taxi driver to lead them to the next stop.
Chad and Stephanie come in 1st and get a trip to Belize. I'm still ticked about this but I'll have to get over it.

Gary and Mallory come in last and are Philiminated.

Order of Finish:
1- Snoozer and Stephenie
2- Jill and Thomas after a penalty
3- Nick and Vicky
4- Brook and Claire who seemed to think they were last
5- Nat and Kat
Philiminated: Gary and Mallory. They were nice and have a good relationship.

Next week: Double Detour??? Like we need lame twists.

It was nice to do this with you MsShel!

I saw it as "Double U-Turns".

Odd that they showed us who would use the U-Turns. With five teams left we know Jill & Thomas will use one and Nick & Vicki will use the other. I'm guessing Jill & Thomas use it on Chad & Steph (seems to be a rivalry there) and Nick & Vicki on the docs.

Thanks Pepe, it was Double U-Turn.

If we are shown who uses the detour can we assume it's because it is a NEL and it won't mean anything?

Not only how big is Oman but how long do you drive around before realizing that you need to ask somebody. Even dumb-dumbs Nick and Vic figured that out.

Next week, the racers are in Bangladesh and all new to TAR, the double u-turn. duh duh duh, intrigue!

"RE: TAR 17- Episode 8 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by kidflash212 on 11-14-10 at 10:03 PM
So this is what they came up with to make U-Turns less fatal - make two teams do them at the same time. Don't think I'm liking it.

Seemed the last 2 teams had little problem finding Ali Baba -
since all the other vendor stalls were closed!

Yuck. Not my favorite leg - being forced to endure Chad's proposal (what kind of person finds this sort of proposal romantic? eye roll, and then my two least favorite teams come in first and second.

"Next week's twist"
Posted by vince3 on 11-14-10 at 10:17 PM
I think the best thing about this 'Double U-Turn' is that it appears one team can't hit both teams.... first can hit anyone behind them, and then second can go after a target themselves... especially if they were the team hit by the first shot...

"RE: Next week's twist"
Posted by kidflash212 on 11-14-10 at 10:25 PM
It just makes it a two team race to be eliminated. I'd rather they brought back the Intersection and ditch the U-Turn.

I smell a NEL.

"RE: Next week's twist"

Aren't we at the point in the race where almost every other leg is a NEL? So yeah, a lot of drama over who gets to do a lame speedbump the next week!

"RE: Next week's twist"

a lot of drama over who gets to do a lame speedbump the next week!

Yes, I agree. The speed bump that the father and son had to do was laughable. Sit your bum down on an ice cube for 10 minutes....lamest speed bump eveh!!! It took them all of 10 minutes to complete it, how is that going to make or break the race?

"RE: Next week's twist"
Posted by kidflash212 on 11-15-10 at 07:27 PM
I would still claim the Speedbump for the cops last season was even more lame than the block of ice.

-It took about three minutes

-Sitting on a block of ice is somewhat painful. Throwing coins into a window is not.

"lame Fast Forwards too"

There have been some pretty lame FF too in the past.
The worst one I remember is going to a pool, diving - or jumping - in and retrieving the clue from a post in the middle.
2 guys did that one.

"RE: lame Fast Forwards too"
Posted by Starshine on 11-16-10 at 03:11 PM
True, but the FF was out of the way, so if another team had gone for it they may well have been eliminated (although Shola and Dweeb who were eliminated on that leg would have had trouble finding their buttocks with both hands)

Zev and Justin told the Globetrotters what the answer was but wouldn't tell the Cheerleaders or Margie and Luke. I like the Globetrotters but I didn't like that they didn't really try to figure out the answer themselves.
