"TAR 17, Episode 5 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"

Since none of the Canadians have stopped by to start this thread and laugh at the silly Americans having to wait for yet another delayed TAR start, I'll do the duty this week. By my reckoning we'll be starting at least 10 minutes late... better than many weeks. *sigh*

We will use your thread, you got it started first.

Could have easily started a lot later, but they screwed up trying to get the game all tied up right at the end.

Thank goodness that San Diego field goal try clanked off the upright and was no good. And thank goodness that CBS didn't decide to bless us all with bonus coverage of Oakland's ten-billion-point blowout of Denver.

I think we just got the winner's quote. From Nat/Kat, who were doing the Fast Forward and having to each eat a half of a sheep's head as a Norwegian christmas ritual and were just about finished:

"Tastes like a million dollars."

They were doing a great job of supporting each other by calling out food names to psych themselves into downing the food - "romaine lettuce, crunchy", etc.

They succeed, despite one of them being a vegetarian for 22 years, and get the fast forward!

Crunching on sheep eyeballs has always been how we celebrate the season.

Sheep, it's what's for Christmas. Subtle Viking humor at it's finest.

Eat an entire roasted sheep's head.

Nat and Kat take it.

I wish someone else closer behind Nat & Kat had tried the FF. This could have been a competitive FF with two teams fighting to finish their disgusting food first.

I'm still trying to figure out why Mallory isn't annoying me. I think it's the sincerity.

She's more like a fun cheerleader than an uptight beauty queen. There could be a series in this.

Save the cheerleader, around the world!

Probably helps that pops looks more like Larry Bird than a corporate headhunter.

Save the cheerleader, but only on Tuesdays!

I like her, too.

Go down a rope from bridge to the water
Signal a boat and get the clue.
Climb back up the rope to the bridge.

Vicki totally smoked Chad's azz on the climb back up.

Fast Forward taken seems pretty obvious to me.

"Fast Forward Taken?"
Posted by Snidget on 10-24-10 at 08:42 PM
What on earth could that mean??

"RE: Fast Forward Taken?"
Posted by Estee on 10-24-10 at 08:48 PM
The stupidity of Team Squick is starting to approach Dandrew levels. First they convince themselves that every other team is doing the Fast Forward, including those with a major lead on them. Somehow, this doesn't mean they won't be able to beat everyone to it -- so they go off to attempt it too. And then, upon seeing it's been taken, they have a debate on the meaning of 'taken'. Maybe it was stolen. Evil doctors! How dare they!

How do these two get dressed in the morning? Labels reading 'arm goes here' are no longer an option. 'Here?'

"RE: Fast Forward Taken?"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 10-24-10 at 08:50 PM
It's why they got together in the first place - to help each other get dressed, which partly explains some of the clothes they've worn on this race...

'Why does my jock strap have a butt cup?'

The most unbelievable part of the leg might have been their collectively memorizing a four-digit number.

I think even Dandrew would have understood "FAST FORWARD TAKEN". And then to top it off, she says in her confessional she still doesn't get what it meant.

I was shocked when Nick & Vicki didn't know what that meant! I was wondering, "Are they idiots?" Of course, that seems to be a stupid question -- obviously, they are -- at least, when it comes to the Race!

Remember the color of your lock, ride a bike get the combination then come back to open the lock.

Go on a boat, direct the boat and deliver a chain saw and other stuff.

Vicki totally smoked Nick's azz on the bike ride as well. This was after Nick bragged about riding BMX bikes competitively when he was younger.

2 Gary/Mallory Get your finish number by eyebrow signals
3 Jill/Thomas

5 Brook/Claire
6 Nick/Vicki
7 Chad/Stephenie
8 Katie/Rachel--philiminated

"RE: Finish Order"

As we've seen in the past, legs without bunching result in very similar finish orders as the previous leg.

"RE: Finish Order"
Posted by Estee on 10-24-10 at 09:28 PM
I thought there was some chance of an NEL here after Phil pulled one out after another no-flight travel extension, but the eyebrow Morsed out the universal signal for mercy.

The only ways to really get stuck in this leg: bad directions/driving, total muscle failure on the ascender, multiple simultaneous Fast Forward attempts followed by major bodily protests, and going over the edge of the cliff on the bike. The first item on that list is the usual factor -- which didn't materialize. Everything else got worked through or never showed up.

"RE: Finish Order"
Posted by kidflash212 on 10-24-10 at 09:50 PM
I think I would have enjoyed seeing Connor or Jonathan try that ascender. Might have set a record for longest time at a Roadblock.

And now they head to Elimination Station so they can not make friends there too. I'm not sorry to see those two go -- the competitive nature was fine: the idea that no one else could possibly approach their matchless skill lacked something.

'It's easier to play in last.' No, but it is easier to stop playing.

You were right about them not making friends at Elimination Station. The other 3 teams had accepted that they had lost and now they were enjoying their free vacation. The Volleyball Players came in bitter saying they didn't belong there because they were the strongest team in the race. Great way to make friends.
