Please keep all sigpic-free discussion of the potentially nightmarish finishing order on this thread until 12:00 a.m. EDT, by which time the West Coast may have stopped screaming.

By the way, for those keeping count, this would be Sign Of The Apocalypse #6. (#5 is still being resolved every Thursday.)

Are you trying to give Bloomie a challenge? Because he still has enough time to call a press conference. Don't you want to hear all about the new tax hikes?

Yep, they're off to San Francisco as their first clue from the pit stop in Shanghai.

Lesbians, lots of lesbians for Caite to deal with!

Jordan noted that in general, it's a very gay-friendly city -- which flipsides to what Brent & Caite are rapidly learning: it's not that fond of homophobes.

Now, what did that one T-shirt of Michael's say...?

Dan and Jordan arrive at the airport last, six hours after the other two teams. Jordan sees a small gap in the lineup between Caite and the cowboys, and decides that since it's wide enough for him to put his backpack down on, it makes him ahead of the cowboys in the lineup!

I did think that was petty, stupid and unnecessary.

Yeah, especially for somebody who is such a big fan of the Race. The order for booking their tickets seemed like an unwritten rule. There was no need to stir the pot like that.

In my mind that was cheating and I wish the cowboys could have clocked the two of them!

They were quite vocal that they wanted to. Resorting to violence when things did not go exactly their way seemed to be a recurring theme for this team.

Brent/Caite have a cabbie who doesn't understand English! In San Fran!

The Further Revenge Of The Disrespected T-Shirt Symbol.

The move into first-class was a decent one from Dan & Jordan -- but those seconds are very easy to lose again. Right now, one bad cabbie, one traffic delay, and the streets will determine this more than skill ever could.

Kind of weird to be that near the Golden Gate again: we had a finish line there before... and the flashbacks were not pleasant.

Wasn't first class off limits? Or was it just buying 1st class tickets that was forbidden?

"RE: TAR #16 Episode 12 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by kidflash212 on 05-09-10 at 09:11 PM
They can't purchase First Class tickets - it happned once before when Reichen & Chip bought coach but were seated in First Class.

Yes, teams are only allowed to purchase cattle-class seats - but that doesn't mean they can't be bumped up to first-class if a flight is overbooked.

IIRC, Zach booked first-class seats using a cell phone while on a train because there were no coach class seats immediately available - and they had to have bookings already in place in order to be allowed to get into the airport (can't quite recall which airport this was - Vietnam? Singapore?), then once they got there, he and Flo changed their bookings to a coach seat on a different flight.

I also remember a team a few years ago (not good on TAR trivia) who had purchased 1st class but had to go back to the ticket counter once told it wasn't allowed.

I understand being bumped to 1st class but here, the brothers asked to be switched which seemed unfair.

"RE: TAR #16 Episode 12 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by CTgirl on 05-09-10 at 09:33 PM
It's not really unfair - any one of them could have tried it if they'd thought of it. I seem to recall teams in the past talking about trying to move up too.

But I wonder if that flight attendant was happy about being called a stewardess! She might be regretting moving them up!

"RE: TAR #16 Episode 12 (Finale) East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by kidflash212 on 05-09-10 at 09:33 PM
Both the other teams could have done the same thing so I don't see it as unfair. Dan & Jordan just outsmarted the other two teams.

You can't buy first class or business class tickets, but I think sweet talking yourself into better seats than you were assigned is OK.

Dan and Jordan are now in Lucasfilm ... and this looks like an interesting roadblock!

One has to don a virtual reality suit with sensors all over the body while the other watches a monitor and directs his partner through a virtual Star Wars course.

The way that Dan and Cord are yelling at each other, it's too bad they can't just don virtual suits themselves and go at it with laser beams swords!

Jet is stuck in place as Jordan is unable to move in front of him to avoid throwing off the virtual screen.

Brent and Caite are a good distance behind the other two teams.

Caite looks like Natalie Portman on the screen.

At the end of the virtual show, teams are supposed to decipher a message.

Dan and Jordan are first to figure out it means they're supposed to go to the Tonga Room.

"RE: There's hope!"

Brent/Caite has literally flown right through the roadblock and finished only seconds behind Jet/Cord.

But... karma is ganging up! They left their backpack containing all of their money earlier in the taxicab.

"RE: There's hope!"

I did wonder after Jet stood there and watched Jordan spinning around it didn't occur to them immediately to do the same.

Why did it take Jet so long to figure he had to spin around after seeing Jordan doing it?

"RE: There's hope!"

Jordan's cut-in-line logic was so dizzying that Jet probably thought it was par for the course with his behaviour.

Carry a trunk through the streets of downtown San Fran to find a place called The Great American whatever (my memory's going).

Once they get there, they have to sort funkadelic signs by order of teams who got Philiminated (with non elims included). Dan and Jordan fly right through this in no time at all and they get the clue to go to the final pit stop ... at Candlestick Park!

"Far out, man!"

So who was expecting a memory challenge? The fan. And who has no memory at all for lesser beings? Well, we may never seen Brent & Caite get this far...

They should really give the eliminated teams their artwork. I won't call copyright foul.

Come on HD, throw out their sex preferences and you would hate the lesbians for being very ungracious losers.

If they wanted to be like that they should have applied for Survivor where they could have at least been bitter jury members. As it was, I cannot think of another time when an Amazing Race team was as "ugly" to a team that beat them at the finish line.

Didn't like Brandy (Carol didn't really get involved) actions and it unfairly distracted from Dan & Jordan's win.

I was just about to post that same thought. I also didn't like that Phil gave Brandy the chance to upstage the winners in the first place.

OK, Byoffer,

1. I've never heard Brandy or Carol say that they like men too and just happened to choose women, so it appears that they have a sexual orientation rather than "sex preferences."

2. I think that I very clearly said that Brandy was not gracious. (It looked like Carol was at least clapping, if not enthusiastically. She even looked disgusted when Brandy escalated the exchange, so I'm not sure that it's fair to tar both of them with the same brush even if they happened to be teammates.)

3. Caite repeatedly demonstrated on multiple legs of the Race that she is indeed an idiot. Merely finishing the Race does not necessarily make somebody smart.

As it was, I cannot think of another time when an Amazing Race team was as "ugly" to a team that beat them at the finish line.

You're probably right. That still doesn't make Caite any smarter than a box of rocks.

"That still doesn't make Caite any smarter than a box of rocks."

I completely agree but she did have the right to be proud of her accomplishment. As far as we know, she followed the rules and finished ahead of 8 other teams and could have won if their cab driver hadn't gotten lost. Not a bad job and probably much better than anyone expected from her. At the end of the game, you shake your opponent's hand and move on.

"RE: The WINNERS..."
Posted by HistoryDetective on 05-09-10 at 10:34 PM
You're right. And to her credit, she made it to the end without ever having been spared by a non-elimination leg anywhere along the Race. Not all teams who make it to the end can say that.

"We don't forget..."
Posted by Estee on 05-09-10 at 09:02 PM
...and they don't forgive. Brandy could have found a thousand better ways to put it (or at least five which would have made her sound more coldly logical), but she had a major point: Caite hurt herself by not hitting a stronger team.

And then Dan & Jordan won, so 'strength' takes second to 'spinning in place'.

behind, maybe a few minutes
is all.

I would like to know the actual time difference. Editing can make it seems like a few minutes when it actually may have been longer. Dan & Jordan finished the final task before Jet & Cord even got there and didn't seem that Jet & Cord noticed Dan & Jordan looking for a cab. I think they were already in the cab on the way to Candlestick before Jet & Cord ever got to the Music Hall.

I agree, and we saw that Jet and Cord messed up the poster identification on top of everything else. We don't know how long it took for them to get it right. I think they were at least as far behind JorDaniel as the models were behind them, and perhaps further.

I get the feeling that if Brandy saw Caite heading for that finish mat first she might've done something to prevent that........ loss of placement winnings be damned.....

"RE: Safe prediction."
Posted by samboohoo on 05-10-10 at 10:40 AM
Agree.

I haven't watched the entire episode yet, only the end. I thought, even though Carol showed a little more class, they were both awful sports and just awful in general there.

I'm glad Phil and CBS showed it. While, it did take away from Dan & Jordan winning, it also left no doubt for many, including me, that maybe Carol & Brandy just weren't so nice afterall, and perhaps not victims.

I said it after their elimination. We know Caite and Brent wanted them gone. We know Mike & Louie wanted them gone. One of Dan and Jordan had a little celebration moment in the airport when Caite and Brent recapped what happened. In additiona, in spite of Dan & Jordan initiating the whole "beauty queen/idiot" thing about Caite, one of them appeared to be affectionate to Caite at the finish line - even referring to her as "his peach."

I DVD'd it for tonite, and my anticipation is heightened by reading this.

And I am glad to read that some negative reactions from the losers is shown. It's hardly surprising that it was Brandy that is the poor loser, she had shown her lack of class previously. But the fake happy happy congratulatory attitude at the finish line in previous races had to be hiding some chagrined (to say the least) losers, and it will be refreshing to see some of pissy attitudes .

Carol reminds me a little of Ellen DeGeneres (at least as far as looks and some coolness goes), but Brandy is a total bitch.

Brandy's mat unwelcome was way out of line. Caite may be blonde and clueless in many respects, but apparently she is (according to the winner boys in the RTVW interview) not totally homophobic.

Give me Caite or Brandy, and I'll skip the bitter drink.

The funny thing, once again, is what you can do with editing. According to Dan & Jordan, the homophobe in the room was Jet, who called Jordan some not-nice names. But the editing made it look like Caite was a homophobe, although D&J completely disagree, and Jet was just a good ol' boy.

Maybe it just was that Brandy and Carol really aren't nice people, but CBS didn't want to show that, because then they might have to tarnish the cowboys' star as well.
