Blame it on Dook - they kept the start time delayed for those of you south of the border.

Up here... just had the recap from last week. Yada yada yada, Jeff/Jordan giggled their way through a Philimination. See ya.

Fraking basketball!

If only there were a network that was devoted exclusively to sports. Imagine all the sports they could show on it, instead of disrupting regularly scheduled programming on other networks. Somebody really should look into a sports networks. I bet that would be a good investment.

Oh, there's a few all-sports networks out there. It all depends on money, who is willing to outbid the others - and CBS almost always gets the basketball tournament.

LOL

There are gobs of sports channels. They're just not on network TV.

The current rumors have ESPN positioning itself as a major bidder for next year's men's tourney -- as in 'While you're here, is there anyone you'd like to have sex with?' Money is no object and dignity never was.

The good news: it would take the games off CBS. The bad... well, at least for you, there may not be any.

We start at the Champagne vineyard which was the 6th pit stop. Louis and Michael is the first to leave at 12:35 am and we're off to the island of Mahe in the Seychelles!

Nice overhead view of the Seychelles.

Major bunching point ahead since all of the teams are leaving during the wee hours.

Brent and Caite are the last to leave at 4:36 am, but they've got plenty of time to catch up to the others. They manage to snag a better row to sit on the airplane than some of the other teams.

Going for a meal instead of getting a ticket up-front in the plane come back to bite them.

Upon arrival in the Seychelles, teams rush to draw numbers to take a helicopter ride.

They arrive on a secluded island.

Brent/Caite: We got to get the mean lesbians out.

Turtle Toddle - Lure a tortoise with a banana to a finish line or Ox Trot - guide an ox to tote a cargo.

Where's Colin when you need him?

"RE: Detour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:17 PM
Brent/Caite do the Ox Trot while Steve/Allie do the Turtle Toddle.

Not a good sign - Caite carelessly throws a coconut (or whatever it is) over the cart without realizing it and then they leave with the ox. They must have a certain number to get the clue...

"RE: Detour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:19 PM
Steve and Allie finish first, so they get a clue to proceed to an island by taking a boat there.

"RE: Detour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:21 PM
Uh oh. Steve and Allie forgot their bags - left it besides the tortoise who is merrily munching away on a banana.

That tortoise sure must be hungry, that is the fastest I have seen one move.

Yep, they've got to have a certain number of coconuts.

*sings*

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (they’re lovely)
There they are all standing in a row (one, two, three, four)
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head (and bigger)

The cowboys don't know what coconuts are.

Oxen teams laps.

Team forgets it's bags.

Not enough coconuts.

What a mess.

"Melt down du jour"

... by, who else? Caite.

Doesn't like the idea of going back for two miles to get one measly coconut.

"RE: Melt down du jour"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:31 PM
When they get back, there's a local helpfully standing by, pointing directly at the coconut that Brent/Caite dropped.

Now Jet/Cord has left with a coconut left behind!

"Roadblock"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:27 PM
A team member must dive down to get a bottle, bring it up and pull out a map inside, then follow the map.

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:29 PM
Steve aces this one - dives down and gets the bottle on the first try, puts the bottle in his shorts.

"Is that a bottle in your pants or are you just happy to see me?"

"Qwerty!"
Posted by CTgirl on 03-28-10 at 11:17 PM
Phil does a backwards scuba diver roll off the boat and goes down to the bottles to explain what they have to do. He's underwater talking and its subtitled. LMAO. He's such a cutie.

I will never see tonight's show.

Can't remember if they bother to put this one on the CBS website, but I think they don't.

Oh well.

Snidget - Had a tornado watch during the Amazing Race as well and had at least thirty minutes of the show preempted, including the entire last segment + previews. What steamed me is that no tornadoes have actually yet been seen - just had severe thunderstorms. I can understand a regular two minute update every once and a while, but apparently even the threat of a torando made the weatherman think he had license to shoot the ##### for ten minute intervals at a time. Arrgggh . . .

Edit: Thanks everyone for the updates, at least I know what happened even if I didn't get a chance to see it.

"RE: Tornado--All Weather All the Time "

Our station is claiming they have no choice in the matter they are forced to go to all news all the time for every storm by the FCC and at least I did see The Amazing Race is on CBS.com but that doesn't help people who don't have access to broadband internet.

I'm sure the FCC doesn't require the endless news loop of saying nothing but the same thing and showing the same three picture of damage. I understand the strip at the bottom or corner. Although all the local networks do it. Tempted to email the FCC and find out if it is true that all stations much be all weather all the time if there is any threat of severe weather. The never used to do this. I don't know why they think people really want that. I'm sure they could give up a couple of commercials (as they don't ever have commercial interruptions of the same person showing the same map with the same blob that only makes sense to the couple hundred people who live on that stretch of that street (NONE OF WHOM ARE WATCHING AS THEY ALL TOOK COVER OR ARE BUSY DYING).

"RE: Tornado--All Weather All the Time "
Posted by FFantasyFX on 03-29-10 at 08:57 AM
What was depressing was while our local CBS affliate was preempting the end of The Amazing Race, ABC was showing a Desperate Housewives repeat (in fairness, they did cut to a breaking weather alert later).

What's really weird is that they didn't just break away continuously - they had a seven minute interruption near the start, then a nine minute interruption twenty minutes later, then a fifteen plus minute interruption ten minutes later.

And, again, there was no breaking news. Bob (the weatherman) was telling us how tornadoes are formed, reminiscing about past severe weather . . . awful, awful. If there's no actual breaking news about the weather, I don't see why a scroll shouldn't suffice. I bet the FCC excuse you got is probably bunk as well.

"RE: Tornado--All Weather All the Time "
Posted by Snidget on 03-29-10 at 12:12 PM
That is what kills me. When they cram 4 minutes maximum possible news into several hours of broadcast they spend so much time just filling up time waiting for something to happen.

That and ALL the stations now with the digital thing have an all news and weather all the time extra station. But that isn't enough.

I really think locals stations hate having to show network programming and will use any excuse to make sure no one ever sees it.

"First to the Pit Stop..."

... is Steve/Allie. They decide to leave their backpacks behind because they still have all of their important travel documents with them, apparently.

Still almost a half hour left, so we've got some fireworks to come for some teams.

"RE: First to the Pit Stop..."

Brent and Caite - 3rd
Louie and Michael - 4th

Caite unloads to Phil on how she feels about Carol/Brandy.

Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:49 PM
Jet/Cord are next in 5th place. They look odd without their cowboy hats or shirt/jeans.

But... they left behind the contents of their bottle - they have to go back and get it before they can be officially checked in!

"RE: First to the Pit Stop..."
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:54 PM
The cowboys spot their boat 300 meters away from shore, so they swim out ... and they find their bottle still intact on the boat!

Carol and Brandy are now on the beach sorting out the clue while Jet/Cord are still swimming.

"At the pit stop..."
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-28-10 at 08:56 PM
... Team 5 is Carol & Brandy!

The mistake costs Jet/Cord BIG TIME. They're still in the race though, and they'll have to do a speed bump next week.

"RE: At the pit stop..."
Posted by Karchita on 03-29-10 at 01:17 PM
Both mistakes. They would have been ok if they hadn't left a coconut behind. And did they also eat before getting their airplane seats? They need to step it up at this point in the race if they don't want to go home.

"RE: First to the Pit Stop..."
Posted by CTgirl on 03-28-10 at 10:35 PM
Tonight's episode was called "Anonymous."

Brent said it was anonymous that they all wanted Carol and Brandy out. He meant unanimous. It's scary that they are still in the race!!

I like the way the bookended the episode with that - they started the show with Brent saying that he wasn't bad in school!

"RE: First to the Pit Stop..."
Posted by byoffer on 03-28-10 at 10:30 PM
So why wouldn't Steve and Allie hear "your are team #1" and then go get their bags? Even if that meant losing #1 for this episode, I would think they would have a) been safe about not getting eliminated this ep and b) been better positioned for the rest of the race.

Could a team step on the mat and then step off to go get something?

"RE: First to the Pit Stop..."
Posted by michel on 03-29-10 at 08:03 AM
I was wondering the same thing: They have a 12 hour pit stop to use as they want. The problem is that the bags are probably gone.

In the past, teams that have forgotten items weren't allowed to retreive them during the pit stop. Dan/Andrew were walking around in shower shoes because they left their shoes behind at the detour.

I'm assuming that production picked up their bags, and that they'll be returned to them if/when they are eliminated or the race is over.

Wow! There will be a massavre in Jims' casino. I think he rigged the tables! Almost everyone, including me, bet on the detectives and the cowboys. Luckily, I had the lucky 7 bonus. I wonder if I'll get 7000 bucks from 7up?

"Mistake-fest"
Posted by byoffer on 03-28-10 at 10:40 PM
The show is famous for teams making mistakes, but I can't remember an ep with as many mistakes as this one.
- 3 of the 6 teams failed to collect all of their coconuts. And 2 of the 3 even commented while loading their cart to make sure they didn't miss any.
- the team who won the ep forgot their backpacks. They realized this, and I have to think they could have gone back, but that lack of clothing will almost certainly impact them when they go just about anywhere that isn't beach tropical.
- the detectives broke their bottle, which luckily didn't hurt them and didn't cost them as part of the challenge.

By my recogning that only leaves the two gay guys as the mistake-free team (dropping the bottle to the bottom was a mini-blip and not a true mistake IMO).

Buncha dummies.

"RE: Mistake-fest"

I think Steve/Allie would be able to go back and find their backpacks during the rest period - is there anything in the rules to say they can't go out and do whatever they want during that time?

And the two gay guys? Who? If you're referring to Dan/Jordan, while Dan is gay, Jordan isn't.

that time?

I wondered the same thing, whether once they checked in (yea!), while waiting for the other teams to check in, why not try to go back and retrieve their bags? Also a great way to freak out the remaining teams into thinking 'hey, we still have a chance, they have to go back!!'

I've been cap'n'd

I have really developed a twisted mind on ways to mess with the teams.

"RE: Mistake-fest"
Posted by kidflash212 on 03-29-10 at 02:17 PM
Because they chose to edit in them losing their bags, I think it will be a factor next leg or beyond. If they retrieved their bags somehow they easily could have edited around it.

Not to mention, have we ever seen a season when so many teams arrive at the Pit Stop (for that matter, find the Pit Stop) without completing the required tasks? Wow.

We may see Steve and Allie running around in cheap "My parents went to the Seychelles and all I got was this crummy T-shirt" attire in the next episode.

Or they may pick up their backpacks during the Pit Stop.

I wondered if the detectives still had all the puzzle pieces when they got to the beach.
When dad/daughter pulled the map out, all the pieces fell out.
So where did the detectives keep all the little pieces while they were swimming? It looked like the tall one had the map clinched in his fist - but the pieces?
I wondered if that was why they wanted to "work with" the other team on the puzzle - cause it never showed them taking their puzzle out to use it.

I had the same thought - We never saw Mike & Louie put together their map. I slightly expected Phil to tell them they had to go back and get all the pieces. Doesn't seem quite fair that the cowboys had to go back but Mike & Louie who may or may not have had all of the map didn't have to go back.

I was thinking the same thing about their bags. I would have gone back to get mine because you never know. But I also noted that several teams appeared to leave their bags on the boats when they swam to shore to put the puzzle clue together.
