But I'll sneak in anyway.

Season Recrud: nice and short. Luke is competative, Jaime has a mouth, Victor got over his number one son complex.

I hope nobody has to eat that pig! It's as bad as the side of beef in Argentina.

Margie is STRONG!

Margie totally rocked that task.

I'm up to five.

Either Cara or Jaime just said the title quote. And ever since Season 5, either Phil or the winning team has said the season quote -- with the exception of All-Stars. This might be good news for me.

Got here for the last of the pig carry.
Maggie and Luke mad at each other in the buoy clue search.

"Roadblock"

Dig through the surfboards to find the ones with the pictures that have to do with something on the race, then put them in order.

Cara and Jaime lost on the way.

Cara and Jaime lost on the way.

LOL. Have any other racers deserved to have such sh!tty luck with taxis?

"RE: Roadblock"
Posted by ARnutz on 05-10-09 at 09:28 PM
I don't think so.

That was all the bad karma whooshing at them from the rest of the taxi drivers around the world.

Jamie and Cara with another bad taxi driver, they're lost. Victor/Tammy are on the right route but stuck behind a slow driver on a no passing road. Luke is doing well on the task.

I wonder, if that Jeep driver just realized he/she was the one holding up Tammy/Victor. LOL

Do you want me to stop for gas, or do you want me to run out.

I mean I'd be willing to let it run out of gas and let them walk about now.

I mean heaven forbid people who aren't from a place take taxis and have to rely on them or the company that is running them to like have maps or know street names.

You would think in this day and age taxis would start having GPS thingies in them.

"RE: Hawaiian taxi etiquette"
Posted by HobbsofMI on 05-10-09 at 07:56 PM
We don't know if he was calling in since he was on a cell or someone else. GPS would have given the them the road but not the surf board fence place IMHO.

She has melted down on taxi drivers so many times so I would think this one would have also been very quick.

Happens all the time as we've seen season after season even on the final legs where everyone speaks English.

I just have to interject here - I thought it was SO funny - since Jaime can't stand to leave the US, that here she was on US soil with a cabbie that speaks ENGLISH and he STILL doesn't know where she wants to go!? I ROFLMAO when the dispatch said she "wasn't their concierge." Pretty funny!

Not that I have an opinion one way or another ;)

Luke can't find the last couple and getting frustrated.
Victor catching up.
Cheerleader started out frustrated, that can't be good.

I don't think we're getting a Detour tonight.

I'm not sure we'll clear the Roadblock before your local news.

Luke helps Jamie and then they help Luke or they would have been there a while.

Yeah, Tammy & Victor win! Mom & Dad will be proud. I was right about that finishing picture, the finger did mean that they finished first.

I'm happy that Tammy & Victor won because I have a soft spot for Asian Americans, and this was one of the teams I was rooting for almost from the beginning. (The other was Cara & Jaime, because I wanted an all-female team to win for once). And also Tammy & Victor, once they got past the meltdown in Romania, worked well together and really weren't spoiled brats, Kidflash. And of course I was playing Tammy in BTAR.

I'm glad Tammy and Victor won. I didn't see them a spoiled brats.

I didn't either. Having money and travel experience doesn't make someone an entitled brat - expecting people to drop everything for you does. Whinging does.

Tammy and Victor actually adapted to each other and seemed like they were having an incredibly fun time racing. Isn't that the point?

"RE: TAR 14 - Finale - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by ARnutz on 05-10-09 at 09:25 PM
I feel the same way as you. I think Jamie and Luke both acted much more like entitled brats than Tammy and Victor.

I'm with you, kidflash. Tammy & Victor's reaction at the final mat:

"Wow, we won.

Phil, please take the million dollars and put it on the pile with all the others we already have.

And the trips we won? Thanks, we've always wanted to go back to see all those places again."

Other than the meltdown in Transylvania, Tammy & Victor were the best team of racers by far. While I didn't like them, at least I felt they were deserving. If Margie & Luke had won, I would've stopped watching TAR forever.

I looked up who had won before I watched lastnight. I was not going to watch if Luke & Margie won. Once I saw they did not win I watched.

I still say they should have never given Tammy & Victor the advantage of so many challenges in China late in the game. That kind of puts an uneven tilt on their win to me.

"RE: TAR 14 - Finale - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by jbug on 05-11-09 at 10:34 AM
I disagree.
Regardless of the advantages they had in China,
every team started out leaving China for Hawaii at the same time.
So at that point, no team really had an advantage over any other for the final win.

Actually the other 2 teams got to sleep a few hours longer before their departure time . But then they all had to wait together at the airport for the plane to leave.

The race is designed several months in advance - before they know who the teams will be.

And if going to college with an enormous amount of Asians has taught me anything, it's that many American-Born Asians don't speak their parents' language. Or if they do, it's about as well as Kisha and Jen.

I don't know if it's considered unfair that a team knows the local language. If my father were on the race, he'd have a huge advantage everywhere (for personal enrichment, he taught himself about 6 languages) - seems perfectly fair to me.

and besides, they went to the city that hosted the Summer Olympics only a couple of months before the Race came through. That was another lucky break that Tammy/Victor had in China, that they went to the Olympics as well......

Makes you wonder if they have a Race in Spring/Summer 2010, if it heads through Vancouver, if any team could get an advantage there...........

"RE: TAR 14 - Finale - East Coast Spoiler Thread"

In other races they have gone to Spanish speaking countries and some of the racers spoke Spanish.

"RE: TAR 14 - Finale - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by vince3 on 05-11-09 at 11:24 AM
Exactly. Same for Portugese speaking countries as well.....

Also, remember the Hippies in Season 9? One of them spoke Japanese, had a Japanese girlfriend and walked from one part of Japan to the other a year or two before the Race? And where were the penultimate legs that Race? Japan.

These type of things happen almost every Race. It just rarely happens that it's near the end. Besides, knowledge of the city doesn't always translate into success. The bickering couple of the 2nd Race had the Final Destination city be their hometown. They got to the Finish Line area first, but they couldn't hold their lead in the run to the finish........
