Wondered where everyone was!

So, we have the requisite blonds, the requisite cheerleaders, and a couple from my hometown!

Off to Switzerland. Interesting TPTB gave them two flights to choose from.

Bam Bam Bam Bam Ba Bam

And they are off. Wow will be interesting oto see the deaf person cope and how the two short guys do. They do stunt work so they are probably pretty athletic.

Anyone else in the deepest, darkest recesses of their brains secretly hope one of the marines in the copters would accidently start shooting? Not necessarily to hit any of them but just to watch them hit the deck?

Looks like they got new graphics to play with, especially with the flight plan map graphics.........

2 flights: Luftanza to Zurich, and Air France to Milan. Luftanza will leave first, but Milan is closer to the Locarino, Switzerland........

The amazing producers tell them what travel to take, and the bickering, fighting-for-control couple manage to miss their train....and the fighting begins.

One couple already fighting because they missed their connecting train.

More interested in which one is running the show and getting the last word than getting things done.

Preston and Jennifer missed their train, and are now in DFL.....

Ruh Roh. Christie and Jodi got off of at a train station, but it looks like they only switched trains, not took a different form of transportation........ We'll have to wait and see........

Time for the tiered departures, again. 7:15, 7:30, and 7:45.....

What part of Amazing Race did Redneck Woman not understand? Running is a part of EVERY episode.

Yeah, but often a good fast walk will do you as much good.

What part of making your wife feel like complete carp and destroying any self esteem or confidence she has does Steve think is motivating and will turn her into a sprinter overnight?

Yeah, screaming at your partner sucks and he shouldn't have done that. But it kills me the number of people who come on here and don't seem to know how physically challenging it is.

She really didn't seem to be doing that bad running the next day. I think she can run a bit, just if he pushes her too hard she'll tire out faster. He'd do better working at her pace than just bitching and moaning about them being last and running on ahead of her.

One person has to do it.

Roadblock

Posted by kathliam on 02-15-09 at 08:22 PM
I'm glad the producers made them figure out the clue where they were supposed to go, rather than telling them. Still not too difficult as the locals will know their destination, but I prefer it to telling them outright.

BTW, this looks friggin' horrifying!

Brother Victor goes first. Sister seems to be almost as freaked out as he does.

...when the last five or six teams did the bungee jump, they showed a time on the screen when each person was doing it? I really liked that. I always wonder how far apart people are when they are doing particular tasks. The way it is edited, it's often hard to tell if they are two minutes or two hours apart. Of course, we had seen everyone arriving at the dam, but it was still nice to see those times. Hope we get more of that in this season.

"RE: Didja notice..."

Noticed that too, and loved it. I also really like the new theme music and screen shots.

Yes, there seems to be a lot of cool new features with this season's TAR so far... hopefully they can keep it up!

Google map zipping from one location to the next, less airport drama wasting screen time, split screens with one area with some teams being shown simultaneously with another area where other teams were.

And that was one hilarious challenge with the cheese flying down the hill. It's a miracle Luke wasn't permanently maimed after he lost his balance and sprinted down the hill for a bit with 100 pounds of cheese on his back before doing a big pratfall with pieces of wood flying everywhere. That had the potential to cause serious injury, though.

"RE: Didja notice..."
Posted by michel on 02-15-09 at 09:52 PM
I liked the new features also but I have to ask: Would you eat that cheese?

"RE: Didja notice..."
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 02-15-09 at 10:26 PM
Maybe they'll use that cheese as a future fast forward eating challenge...

After completing your bungie jump, take the train to Interlochen.

Looks like there may be more than one train, but someone (sorry, it's too early to remember names) thinks to ask whether the train arrives earlier!

Use a sled to bring 200 pounds of cheese down the hill to collect the next clue.

eta: it isn't a sled, you carry it on your back, stack the cheese and carry down the hill.

Stack 200 pounds of cheese.

After transporting it down a steep hill

"RE: Detour"

Natives drinking beer, watching them slide and fall down the hill.

Cheese breaking loose all over the place.

"RE: Detour"
Posted by vince3 on 02-15-09 at 08:38 PM
Each wheel weighs 50lbs each, and you can try to carry 2 down, but it's not recommended........

Also, the cheese carrying devices aren't the sturdiest in the world, they seem to break on impact........ or general use..... or at a comedic moment.......

The crowd of the normal workers are having a boozing good time laughing at the silly Americans trying to do their job that way.......

"RE: Detour"
Posted by jbug on 02-16-09 at 10:51 AM
That was a pretty hard challenge.
Surely they have production peeps who try all these things out first. I agree with Pepe ^^ up there. There could have been injuries with that. With those things breaking apart, it's a wonder no one got stabbed with a big splinter of wood!

"RE: TAR 14 ECST"

All Cheese is breaking loose. The locals are laughing themselves sick. Remind me not to eat any cheese from Switzerland because these nuts may have handled it.

"For Me"

The best line was when one of the blondes (I think), said "gracias" when she got her clue. I thought they were in Switzerland. I didn't know that Spanish was their language.

Tribe made me gay

"RE: For Me"

Maybe she was trying to say gratzie, but that's Italian, so that won't work either......

Depending on where you are in Switzerland, the dominant language could be French, German or Italian. The Locarno area speaks Italian.

But I busted a gut too when she said gracias. It's the first leg of the trip, don't you know where you are??!!

"RE: For Me"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 02-16-09 at 01:27 PM
FWIW, Italian is the official language of Locarno and that region of Switzerland.

Switzerland has three official languages - French, German and Italian.

Poor Linda is having a horrible time getting up the hill and hubby isn't really being helpful.

I think it should be a requirement for prospective Racers to actually WATCH the race so they get some idea of the tasks involved.

"RE: TAR 14 ECST"
Posted by Snidget on 02-15-09 at 08:46 PM
Even if you watched they'd have something unexpected no one is completely prepared for.

I think a lot of people even if they saw every episode would underestimate the physical effort needed, and the producers cast these folks, they obviously want some cannon fodder that will fail at physical tasks. They could make everyone pass some test before coming on, but they do not. Add that a lot of people really aren't honest with themselves about what kind of shape they are in and you will always have someone that can't quite cut it.

Most of the time they get lucky on taxis and make it a lot farther than they really should.

"RE: TAR 14 ECST"

Is Linda the redneck wife?
They kept showing her trying to climb the hill -
one shot she'd be carrying a brown jacket;
the next, no jacket;
then she'd have the jacket again.
And they only climbed the hill once.
Any ideas?

"RE: TAR 14 ECST"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 02-15-09 at 10:27 PM
Yeah, the hubby dragged along 3 50-pound cheeses while the wife rode one on her butt, so they only needed to make one trip up the hill.

Yes I was wondering what was up with Linda and the brown jacket too. She had it, she didn't, she did again. I couldn't figure out if she left it behind or was wearing 2 brown jackets.

Margie and Luke, mother and son, are 1st. Tammy and Victor are 2nd. Mark & Michael are 3rd.

Mother and son (Margie and Luke) arrive first and Phil signs to them. They are going to Mexico. Brother and sister attorneys are second. Stunt men brothers are third. First three teams are very close and all on the mat together.

Well, I'm certainly not going to have a first week elimination from Jim's Casino -- I never threw any points towards Jennifer & Preston. But I screwed up in predicting who'd be Philiminated -- I thought it would be Linda & Steve. Oh well, maybe next week.
