"TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"

Posted by Estee on 11-04-07 at 07:24 PM
Please keep all discussion of tonight's premiere, which may or may not include my heroic efforts to not use up all my Goth conventions at once (remember: actual Goths don't run the Race. Actual Goths just complain about how the Race helps to destroy and all artistic potential for television. Accept no substitutes), on this thread until the West Coast gets to witness the spectacle of a (self-claimed) Goth couple actually doing something. As opposed to complaining about it. Endlessly. And by 'endlessly', I mean 'one minute of real time equals five years subjective.'

Which, by amazing coincidence, is exactly what it feels like to watch a really bad TAR episode.

Looks like they're going to be our kind of people.

Oh, and no sigpics. Sigpics help destroy all artistic potential for the Internet.

I know a lot of Goths...

Just how Goth can you be from Louisville Ky?

In Louisville Ky a white person using dark makeup is all you need to be Goth compared to everyone else around you.

That is kinda what I thought.

They may not be using the definition the Goths that I am used to from places that tend to spawn a lot of Goths.

"People think of Goths as depressed, socially inept basement dwellers," Cothron said. "We're here to show them it's actually a celebration of beauty, intellectualism and individualism."

Fiala is anything but down in the dumps.

"The perception is Goth people are gloomy and sort of reclusive and depressing," she said, "but I would feel gloomy and depressed if there wasn't such a thing as Goth," she said, explaining that it gives her a channel for the creative part of her personality.

It starts, did Phil say 11 pit stops but only 8 elimination points?

Two Super-Legs anybody?

Posted by Snidget on 11-04-07 at 08:22 PM
I've still got about 20-30 minutes left of 60 minutes.

11 episodes is what they have been saying in the interviews, with no NEL so there may be a superleg, maybe a 2 part finale?

If it ran more than 30 min late, I need to set my VCR to run longer.

I went to the store about the time the game ended which was 20-25 after. They probably didn't do much post-game stuff and it looks like TAR may start about 8:30

WARNING WARNING !!!

To those the show is just starting for. We have a major whiner in one of the teams, please have ear-plugs ready. It is for your own good!

Get the first clue run to the cars, they are single file and guess who takes the longest to be ready to put the vehicle in drive?

The team in the front. Grandpa and Grandson.

One advantage of starting from a house instead of a park, is the range of choices in roads leading away.

It seems everyone is getting lost here.

That's what they said, the Playboy Mansion.

So you're in the amazing race somewhere near LA, wouldn't it be a good idea to do some homework and figure out a way to the airport, ahead of time?

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Snidget on 11-04-07 at 08:54 PM
Even if a few teams knew which highway, they were driven to the house and it wouldn't be that hard to route them in a way to get them pretty turned around by the time they got there.

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by JACSUZWIN on 11-04-07 at 08:56 PM
Good point. Do you think they had a chance to talk to one another before the race?

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Snidget on 11-04-07 at 09:10 PM
Probably not, we saw a bit of the usual teams introducing themselves to each other at the first airport.

I think they usually keep them separate for this show until the race starts.

If the house they started in was in Beverly Hills (where Hef's house is) it would have taken them less then 30 minutes to "find" LAX. lol

ETF: took out my siggie, sorry about that.

The brother and sister were going the right way but thought that they weren't and turned around. Thankfully, the sister got correct directions and turned back the other way.

Are goths athletic? I've never heard of any that were.

Kentucky Goths may be a different breed than what one runs into in the major Goth centers of the world.

They are going to get an all female team to win somehow.

They keep salivating over it happening. What's next an all female race?

Ari and Staella took the taxi meant for either the brother and sister or father/daughter team.

They have to sign up for one of three ferry times.

The British Air flight, first to leave, was the 2nd to arrive in Shannon.

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Snidget on 11-04-07 at 09:00 PM
First flight is delayed.

Some people reserved taxis from the second flight now the first flight (6 teams) and someone grabbed one of the taxis that was not reserved for them.

"No More Bitches"

Can we get one season without one obviously insane couple. I hate these abusive boyfriend pairs!

"RE: No More Bitches"
Posted by JACSUZWIN on 11-04-07 at 09:08 PM
There could be several...not only abusive boyfriend types but whiny girlfriend types too.

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by MsShel330 on 11-04-07 at 09:10 PM
I can only take so much Lorena. The whining is way over the top.

Vixxen and Kynt are doing well so far. But I'm going to need them to stop with the bad nicknames. "Little Pink Kittie"?! No, just no.

That's why I enjoy this show from the safety of my living room. I'm TERRIFIED of heights. The teams that crossed so far are handling their fear surprisingly well. No melt downs so far.

"RE: Yikes"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 11-04-07 at 09:21 PM
I called my girlfriend who is also watching the race to suggest we try something like that.

The phone rang, she picked it up, and before I could even ask my question she responded 'NO!'.

Damn, another great idea shot down.

I almost fell off the couch, I was laughing so hard. I told Mr. B that if it weren't for Colin's infamous quote, that would have been the best animal moment in TAR history.

But it was a delightfully close second.

Too funny..... didn't they get the memo to insert the key in the donkey to make it run?

Or maybe not yanking on the lead rope might be effective?

Maybe, but how do you tell a broken donkey from a stubborn one?

Besides, it really was the people who were having the break downs.

I want the prize.

I love Banff and Lake Louise.

"RE: TAR #12 Episode #1 East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 11-04-07 at 09:36 PM
First, I love the prize. There is no way I would refuse it if offered to me.

But this seem like a cheaper prize than other TARs. On the other-hand I hope they are doing something like my suggestion that each travel prize goes a little further afield.

First) North American resort.

Second) Mexican or Carribean resort.

Third) Central/South American resort.

Fourth) Week Cruise - first class of-course.

Fifth) European resort.

Sixth) Major European x-countries tour/resort.

Seventh) Australia

Eighth) Fiji or thereabouts.

Other suggestions.

Whoo Hooo! I get the swoop and everything!

What a great episode. I already hate some teams and love some teams, after only 1 episode.

My son explained to me that the Goths aren't really Goths, they are something else called Emo or something.

Nathan and Jen already annoy the youknowwhat out of me. As do the whiny barbie twins. And Karma takes a big bite, huh Ari?

Lawl. Emo.

Emo is a watered down version of punk. It's popular among the sub-20s crowd.
Emo music has a similar sound to punk (more pop-like), but instead of singing about social revolution, they sing/scream about how no one understands them or about how sad they are (emo is short for emotional)--basically anything the average teenager feels.
Many Emo-followers write crappy poetry and claim to be severely depressed (teenage angst is not depression). Just go into Hot Topic stores and you'll find out what Emo is.

From preshow pictures, I'd place Kynt/Vyxsin as a weird goth-emo-punk mix.

They are not punk!!

Not in any way, shape, or form do they have anything to do with punk. Believe me.

I can say that. I saw the Ramones at CBGBs in the '70s. I know punk. I was a punk. Kynt/Vyxsin ARE NOT punk.
