Well, friends, I caught the promo for episode 10 earlier this morning, would have posted quicker about it except I had a couple of questions I thought I'd try to find the answers for first, but more on that later. Here is how the commercial goes:

(Open on wildlife shots montage: barn owl taking flight, field mice scurrying, raccoon at the water, squirrel jumping out of a tree...)
Ayannouncer: On the next BlowsVivor --

(Random life in BV summer camp shots.)
Survivorerist (off-camera, singing to guitar strumming): "Let's give 'em something to talk about/ Love and a myst'ry to figure out."

(Shot of Survivorerist and IceCat constructing a shelter.)
Ayannouncer: The food situation comes to a head --

George Tirebiter (close-up, semi-laughing): I will not eat green eggs and ham!
(Shot of a splashing disturbance of some sort in the water.)

Ayannouncer: And a trap is sprung, one will be caught by surprise --

RudyRules (confessional shot): They won't be expecting me to do anything now, it's time to strike.

(Shot of helicopter coming in for a landing.)
Ayannouncer: But will a special guest bring relief? --

IceCat (possibly directed scene with attempted animated acting): Things are heating up in our camp!

(Shot of a tent.)
Mystery Woman (off-camera, shot of all six remaining players having a discussion outside a shelter): Is it time for my close-up? (possibly voice has been manipulated, sounds like Betty Boop)

(Shot of Outfrontgirl and George Tirebiter at cooking fire.)
Ayannouncer: A daring escape succeeds, will it alter the course of the game? --

Dangerkitty (confessional shot): You can never be certain of anything at any time.
(Shot inside shelter, SnoopySucks with a little yellow bird, a barn owl, and a white rabbit with squinty eyes and an overbite.)

Ayannouncer: Strategies for control will evolve to the next level! --

Outfrontgirl (confessional shot): I didn't come here to be conned by some cake-eating wannabe underwear model.

(Shot of players entering tribal council set, slo-mo.)
Survivorerist (off-camera, singing to guitar strumming): "Working on myst'ries without any clues/ Working on the night moves."

(Quick montage: take from splashing scene, close-up of Dangerkitty looking angry, shot of IceCat running, shot of helicopter, repeat of barn owl taking flight, aerial view of camp, house of cards starting to fall.)
Ayannouncer: Be prepared for a twisting shock on the next BlowsVivor!

(Logo still frame then fade.)

Well, that's what I got on tape. I got on-line and tried to find out if anyone anywhere had any insights about the wildlife shots, if those various animals might have hidden meaning or something, but no luck there. By the way, the pimps site is down just as I predicted and had heard it was. Anyway, I did find a different perplexity while on the promo search, seems there are subliminals in some of them. Checked the tape frame by frame and sure enough, found one. These words appear in one frame, exactly as I present them here, make of it what you can:

EYE OF PROVIDENCE
MANDELBROT SET
OMPHALOS
HALO EFFECT

Ahh, dabo, you did a much better job taping this promo than I did -- the video clips add a nice touch. Of course, it's hard to tape video off the radio.

Well, let's see what we have here:

"Green eggs and ham" leads me to think that this may be the "visit from home" episode, because that line could only be associated with samiam. And, the first letter of the words in the subliminal message, read from bottom to top, spells out "HOME". In looking through the old apps, it looks like RudyRules picked Kismet as his visitor and Surv picked EBug, so they probably don't win the visit. Of the others, GT and IceCat never applied, OFG said "surprise me", and dk picked GT, which would require a substitution ... so any of them could win ... IF that's part of this episode. (Curse you, Mark Burnit, for your new sneaky previews)

And Surv must have received some new guitar strings in his CARE package from home, because he's playing again -- or were those a separate reward -- naah, not bloody likely.

Oops, time to get back to work. More attempts at spoiling this stuff later.

"Thoughts"

The car in the picture (Pontiac Aztek?) would indicate that the RC is similar to the one Colby won in E9 -- someone gets to spend the night in the car, probably with the guest. The attempted escape could mean that THIS car has gas in it. Since the producers have been trying to bolster ratings on this show with sex (sort of like BB2), it could well be that samiam has come as IceCat's guest, since he is the only male with an undisclosed preference. Could Cat win the reward and then try to run off with sami?

The helicopter landing shot goes along with the theory that this is the guest reward.

I'm very interested in the scene with SnoopySucks, the bird (could this be SnoopySucks' pal, WoodstockSucks?), the rabbit (Lamber?) with squinty eyes and an overbite (Survivorerist?), and the barn owl (who in this group would qualify as a wise old owl?). I guess I'll have to search for another clue about this scene later.

AND I guess the squirrel running away may have to do with the presence of a big predator bird -- perhaps a Hawk?

Great stuff, dabo!

Well, I'm simply stumped by this preview. Sounds tres intriguing!

Two comments, one bordering on a hijack attempt:
1)
>>Outfrontgirl (confessional shot): I didn't come here to be conned by some cake-eating wannabe underwear model.

Hey, if she brings ice cream and the cake's chocolate, she can probably con me into anything at this point...

Mon Cherie has been portrayed as the DAW working on a Victoria Secrets gig...hmmm

2)
Omphalos
I love this word and I must digress about it:
Greek for "navel."

The Omphalos, a conical block of stone standing near the temple of Delphi. This ancient shrine housed the Oracle of Apollo--Oedipus killed his father on the road to Delphi (and Shakes titled the "visitor" ep. in S2, with Colby's mom, "Oedipus Tex.")

The Omphalos was regarded as the central point of the earth, and was the center of prophecy in Ancient Greece.

"Some late 19th century Theosophists contemplated the omphalos variously as the place of the "astral soul of man," the center of self-consciousness and the source of poetic and prophetic inspiration." Thus the joke about "contemplating your navel" as a means to enlightenment.

In the Odyssey, "omphalos" is a poetic epithet--meaning "navel of the sea"--used by Homer for Calypso's island. Odysseus (or Ulysses to the Romans) was one of the ur-castaways in literature--held captive for 10 years on this beautiful and horny nymph's island. He resisted her advances and she finally released him so he could travel home to his wife.

How might this relate in any way to how dabo might think? Well, Samuel Butler, dabo's sig line author, also wrote "Authoress of the Odyssey"--a tour de force in which he argues that a woman wrote the Odyssey (instead of a blind Greek man)--and that woman author was none other than one of the main female characters in the story (Nausicaa).

Hmmm. Butler must have had some issues with strong women.
Here is an anecdote from "Authoress" in which he talks about these women who don't need a man in the camp, at least not as providers of more than sex. (Circe, the other goddess/witch that he mentions, also kept Odysseus as her captive love slave until he tricked her and got his freedom):

"Calypso is the mastermind, not Ulysses; and ...neither she nor Circe seem to have a manservant on their premises. I was at an inn once and asked the stately landlady if I could see the landlord. She bridled up and answered, 'We have no landlord, sir, in this house; I cannot see what use a man is in a hotel except to clean boots and windows.' Thus spoke Circe and Calypso, but neither of them seems to have made even this much exception in man's favour." (Samuel Butler)

In sum, Samuel Butler clearly believed that the female characters are running the show from behind the scenes. I'm wondering if dabo knows about that...

Note to other literary geeks:
Why do I have all these references at my fingertips?
Answer: James Joyce used Butler's book as one of his two primary "authorities" on the Odyssey when Joyce wrote "Ulysses."

Joyce liked the word Omphalos too: so much that he opened the book IN an omphalos--in this case the old stone tower by the sea that his characters are renting instead of a more conventional house.

Here's Joyce using 'omphalos' in a darned funny sentence (IMHO):

"He proposed to set up there a national fertilizing farm to be named Omphalos with an obelisk hewn and erected after the fashion of Egypt and to offer his dutiful...services for the fecundation of any female of what grade of life soever who should there direct to him the desire of fulfilling the functions of her natural. Money was no object, he said, nor would he take a penny for his pains."

Gee, sounds a lot like Shakes' original plan...

"Mandelbrot set"
Posted by flying squirrel on 08-02-01 at 06:23 PM
Well, OFG, I didn't know about Omphalos, but I do know about Mandelbrot set. The Mandelbrot set is a fractal developed as series of complex numbers that ultimately converge to zero (as opposed to infinity) when tested using the equation Zn = Z(n-1)**2 + C, (or, in words, the current value equals the square of the previous value plus the initial value), where C is the initial value of the point on the complex plane. Complex numbers are built around the idea that there is a square root to -1, called i; in other words, isquared equals -1. This can't happen in the everyday numbers that we all know and love, because the only way to produce a negative number in a multiplication is to multiply a negative number by a positive one; it only happens in complex numbers.

A Mandelbrot set produces cardioid patterns, such as the one below:

I would describe the reasons behind the colors only if it would help me establish my own "Omphalos" similar to Joyce's model.

Anyway, there is no way that this fractal is connected to BV, unless the remaining members of the cast ended up getting an operation from the producers to produce the "Algernon-Gordon effect" (which didn't work out so well for Charlie Gordon in the end). I like the acronym approach to these words better.

"Eye of Providence and Halo Effect"
Posted by flying squirrel on 08-02-01 at 06:52 PM
Just to finish off -- we all know the Eye of Providence, right? A variant of it is the Eye in the Pyramid on U.S. currency -- here is the original proposal for the Great Seal, from 1776, incorporating the Eye:

And, of course, the Eye of Providence (or, in other words, Providence watching over us) could easily be related to BV (just ask Mon Cherie and Survivorchick). But it doesn't seem to have much spoiler value.

Lastly, the "halo effect" could also impact BV. The halo effect is produced when someone's favorable GENERAL impression produces a more positive impression regarding a SPECIFIC item than is otherwise warranted. For example, a project that is very far behind schedule might still be seen as being timely due to halo effect (any guesses what I'm thinking about now?). In BV, a duplicitous player might falsely be seen as not duplicitous despite having lied (anyone see any estrogen alliances around here?), or a nice player might falsely be seen as not nasty despite pulling a rotten stunt (anyone for rabbit stew?).

I see how "Omphalos" could have an application to BV (thanks to OFG, Colby and his Oedipal behavior during the "visitor" reward challenge), but I still don't see any possible application of "Mandelbrot set" to BV. I still prefer the acronym approach.

Squirrel--
I love this! I didn't put together the Eye of Providence. I was thinking of Rhode Island... lol

The Freemasons among the founding fathers who gave us that pyramid certainly have esoteric connections with the Theosophists who contemplated the Omphalos--and William Butler Yeats, Irish poet with theosophist friends and a student of mystical cycles or gyres, communicated with the spirits through his wife's automatic writing--spirits, halo effect?
I believe his theory of gyres looks just like a Mandelbrot set when you map it out.

One of my favorite Yeats poems is "The Second Coming."
Perhaps someone is returning to the show?

>>I still prefer the acronym approach.

Oh, I'm sure you're right. Keep It Simple Stupid, you mean?

Don't know my own strength!

Wow, FS, You and OFG continue to impress with your knowledge of subjects most of us didn't know existed.

Will you be my lifeline if I get on with Regis if any obscure math problems come up?
OFG, will you be my Literature/mythology lifeline? I'm a little stronger in that area but you clearly outshine me!

Can't wait to see this Ep.
By the way, HOME are the first letters of the Great Lakes except for Lake Superior, could this mean that this Ep. involves much water, that it is of Superior quality, or that the Michigan-Canadian alliance will grow stronger? hhmmmmmmm

I love your exposition of Mandelbrot. I don't understand it, but I appreciate the beauty...
The math brains converge...you, ICB, where's Sleeeeve?

>>Complex numbers are built around the idea that there is a square root to -1, called i; in other words, isquared equals -1.

I do know this one. I remember my dad explaining it to me when I was young. He's a mathematician, and was teaching a class in complex numbers at UCLA. I made the mistake of asking him what that meant, and I got a very similar explanation--he even went on to explain "imaginary" numbers...
I remember wondering why we needed such things...

My dad was also the one with the bright idea that I should do my geometry term project on Moebius strips and Klein bottles... and build models of them... but I forgive him because he introduced me to classic Sci-fi.

Excuse me, do I digress? Isn't this the Oedipal thread?

This is as addicting as Survivor is, only better because the board created the characters. I wonder if we could do another BV, with a new cast sometime?

Well I've decided to evaluate just the last part of the preview (ignoring all else as is my custom).

So, with out further ado the text uses 42 letters total representing 18 different letters of the alphabet, with the following omitted G,J,K,Q,U,W,X,Z. E,O,A and L are used 3 or more times, while B,I,V,Y are used only once.

A corresponding evaluation of the remaining players indicates little except ICE CAT is the only name that can be fully spelled with the given letters. Since of course everyone else needs either a G or a U. Go figure...

As Ayak pointed out you can clearly see HOME if you read column wise from the bottom left up, but nothing else seems to stand out in particular. However if you take the first letters of each word used you can play a fun game of word scrabble with EOPMSOHE for instance you have:

SEEM POOH
OOPS EHEM
POEM HOSE
MOPE SHOE
SOME HOPE
HOME POSE

and of course my personal favorite

SHEEP MOO

which can only mean... I've wasted a lot of time today

ROFL ICB

Thanks for saving me the time of making something out of those words!

I think you've highlighted a real clue here--although I would never have tread this labyrinth without your aid--

>>Since of course everyone else needs either a G or a U. Go figure...

Clearly, the fact that only Ice Cat doesn't require a G or U means that only he is not dependent on gufu. In fact, I believe he has boasted that he mastered the gufu addiction some time ago.

That may increase his survival capacity as I believe the gufu supply in camp has dried up!

OFG, I love it! But, you know what's weird?

Two of the women need only the "G":
George Tirebiter
Dangerkitty

The men (other than IceCat) need only the "U":
Survivorerist
RudyRules

And then there is Outfrontgirl, who needs both.

Is there a differing gender-specific effect of gufu?

And do you know what else is weird? I corrected my error in the first version of this post before posting it -- but the erroneous version is what went up on the boards. Could the Eye of Providence have blinked when I posted?

You've all done a fine job, making a mountain of that molehill at the end of the commercial recap. . . but what about the ad itself?

First of all, the nature shots--the owl (a bird of prey), the other varmints? And why does Woodstock seem to play so prominently?

Surv and his heretofore out-of-commission guitar--what's with all the singing about mysteries? Is he so confident in his fish-poisoning scheme that he thinks we won't figure out why he's the only one not getting sick? Or has he won a reward visit--and thinks he's going to get lucky?

Except for veggies, would YOU eat green food?! I'm sorry, but that just says "rotten" to me. . . If we hadn't already exceeded our quota of unscheduled departures, I'd say someone was about to succumb to trichinosis or something equally nasty. . .

RudyRules sounds like he's on the verge of showing his hand--and becoming a logical target in this or the next episode. . .

Assuming Betty Boop is one of us and not the cartoon character, I would guess that Dangerkitty is the only one who would care about getting a close-up--I think she's still bucking for a starring role in Charlie's Angels 2.

Who knows why Ice would be so hot & bothered--maybe he thinks with sleeeve gone, he's due to get some action?

SnoopySucks seems to be plotting an awful lot. . . again with the owl, Woodstock, and if not the March Hare--perhaps Harvey, the 6-foot rabbit? Alice in Wonderland seems a bit simplistic for our author, and I can't imagine what Jimmy Stewart would have to do with BV--besides, isn't he dead?

Is the picture of the bimbo with the jugs. . . er, BOTTLES of Coke related to OFG's remarks about the underwear bimbo? It's too blurry to tell if that's MC. . . And I thought the jury wasn't allowed to interact with the remaining contestants--so who could it be? Have I missed news of Lamber landing an underwear gig?--cuz I can't remember that anyone but Surv would've requested a visit from a female--but that could explain why he suddenly has new strings.

We seem to be led to believe IceCat tries another escape by helicopter--so I have to assume that's far from the truth. . . Again, I doubt we'll have any more unscheduled departures, Ice doesn't actually seem to WANT to leave since he's been bitten by the Ho' bug, and I doubt this writer would stoop to a plot line that's already been done.

House of cards? Obviously, someone realizes an alliance they've been counting on was in reality never meant to be.

Last picture--is that a fire started by a lightning strike? Has someone pissed off Dalton AGAIN?!

And the riddle at the end? If it's as simple as "HOME," I have to wonder if Surv gets those red slippers back, clicks his heels together three times, and finds himself whisked back from whence he came--obviously hoping to follow his beloved Lamber on the media ho' circuit!

Sorry I can only ask more questions--I must leave it up to the real spoilers to make sense of all this. It just seemed like everyone was focusing everything they've got on the subliminal crap!

Woohoo! Great job, GT! You really went to town on that. I only focused on the subliminal cuz like I said, I was stumped.
Really. Now I see it can be twisted into some real leads. Maybe I'll give it a shot later.

Oh, and those Coke bottles. Let me state for the record that I loathe Coca-Cola...don't see what people see in it.
I like old fashioned ginger ale or root beer if I'm going to indulge in soda, or maybe a Key Lime...
So that's not me with those jugs, er bottles, fer sure.

Posted by George Tirebiter on 08-03-01 at 06:19 PM
After pondering the reason behind dabo's bumping his "Tribal Time" vote thresd, I have decided it was NOT merely to attempt to break the "Who's Still Awake" record, but because his convoluted mind thought we should be clever enough to take a hint about the upcoming episode. . .

After wading through that morass of lunacy once more, I can only conclude that he was giving us one more chance to decipher his Swahili riddle. . . Why? I haven't a clue, unless he's so confused by now that he thinks BV and S3 are one and the same (we are NOT in Africa, coonhead! LOL).

To repeat his post from this thresd: http://community.survivorblows.com/boards/cgi-bin/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=107&forum=DCForumID18&omm=133

zeituni na nyanya.
upepo.
mwezi.
uchawi-zito.
namna ya samaki-ekundu.
sherizi mti safiri.
damu chungwa.

Gibberish, you say? Certainly! But when I took it to an online translator (CyberTrans, http://lexica.epiuse.co.za/CyberTrans.html ) (<and no, I do not expect that link to morph into a grotesque porn site overnight! ) I came up with the following translation from Swahili to English:

The violation a violation
rat one who eats snake ndio
hero hero no face
olive tree of tomato plant
Winds a month
sorcery heavy
How of fish red
Sherizi a tree traveller
Blood orange

Another translator gives it as this:

violation violation!
rat-eat snake yes.
courage courage no'face!
olive and tomato.
wind.
moon.
magic-heavy.
herring-red.
glue tree travel.
blood orange.

What does it all mean? Well, the rat/snake line could hearken to the days of S1; olive and tomato could have something to do with the promo showing Woodstock and pizza boxes; sorcery or magic? could be the Dalton connection (or perhaps misto is still lurking behind the scenes); the glue reference obviously points to Supe and VampKira; tree travel? Could that have to do with our nimble felines? And most glaring of all is the "herring-red" reference--which brings me back to our little mischief-maker. . .

I can't help feeling that RudyRules is overdue for ouster, but could this be the end of our resident Nice Guy?

Well? What do you experts say?

By Jove, I believe she's on to some things there!
Good work, Tirebiter!

I don't think there's much I can add,
but "violation" might refer to rule-breaking or contract-violating. (I certainly hope it doesn't mean rape or a traffic ticket).

Rat eat snake of course turns the maxim backwards: Sue said that the snake would eat the rat if Dicque beat Kelly. But who in our happy family qualifies as either?

And do we have a hero without a face?

I think you've nailed the pizza ref.
I didn't expect to see more glue.
And does red herring refer to Mr. Nice Guy or reflect back on the whole clue being thrown out to lead us astray?

Love what you've done to the Smiley Face. Gruesome but cool, GT. But if you check the PTTE's, the tribe leans towards the idea of our Bad Seed winning the whole shebang, so I doubt his time has come. No, I'm thinking YOU should be worried, Tirebiter. I should be worried. Those sneaky ones are sliding UTR while we Outspoken and Outfront females are sitting in Someone's trigger sights, no doubt. Sigh.

>And does red herring refer to Mr. Nice Guy or reflect back on the whole clue being thrown out to lead us astray?
LOL--I was going to come back and edit to include that, but decided to wait and see if someone else came up with that angle. Quite possible, surely! Much has been made of that damned red fish since it first appeared (I forget how many episodes ago. . .) and it's always a toss-up as to whether we should take it literally or figuratively.

I have noticed the PTTEs, of course--but with the dismal track record, I really don't know how paranoid to bother feeling. . . As long as GG keeps voting for me to be next, I should be good! But yes--there is certainly a feeling that someone is out to screw up the ultimate spoof on Survivor--an all-female F3. . . Perhaps it's time to use our feminine wiles? (Hate to resort to such tactics, but if the situation warrants it. . . )

I wondered that myself about the vote thread...
I kinda thought our leader had taken on that role since he's the only one who can threaten deletion if no one shows it any respect...

Feminine Wiles? Which of the remaining eligible targets shall we plot to seduce, my dear? It's such a hard sell to seduce a guy with the idea of a Female Final 3, don't you find that to be true, GT? What is it we're offering here? 4th place?
A good time? The satisfaction of letting the good guys win?
Much to ponder, and I fear t'will be to little effect...

> Which of the remaining eligible targets shall we plot to seduce, my dear?
hahahahaha--I guess I was thinking more along the lines of the guy who seems to wield an increasingly iron fist over the whole production. . . if only we can figure out who that IS! Might have to work our way through AyaP upward.

Or we could just take advantage of IceCat's lovely hiney while he's still around. . . might be able to affect his next vote or two. . .

Or perhaps it's the writers we should target! Don't know how susceptible dabo is, but I betcha we could get something going with GG--especially since comparing him favorably to our beloved historical romances and giving him a couple key cameos as BV eye candy. . .

Forgive me--being tied down to a 3 week-old (bird) is making me a bit punchy!

These particular animals in this particular order may (or may not) mean something.

Woodstock - verry interesting. I have a few thoughts on this:
a) Snoopysucks gets bumped up to contestant (to extend the show's run) and brings Woodstocksucks as her luxury item (I keep thinking of her comment from an earlier eposide "Who says a luxury item can't win this thing?")
b) Woodstock is symbolic for the party Woodstock in 1969 - a hint that either there's bad acid being passed around, the group gets their drugs back, and/or the music will be from that period.

Has anyone captured these? Their order might be a clue.

Bonnie Raitt is the surprise visitor?

Interesting.

>Ayannouncer: The food situation comes to

They're eating the heads of those radioactive fish? Beer is being served?

>George Tirebiter (close-up, semi-laughing): I will

Either Samiam visits OR ham and eggs are the reward and they're also radioactive?

>(Shot of a splashing disturbance of
>some sort in the water.)

Not another Skupining. Snoopysucks and Woodstocksucks might both have to be contestants at this rate.

Woodstock and pizza - again - blind screaming munchies after the smokables are returned?

This could mean anything - is there a vid clip somewhere?

Snoopysucks and the Red Baronsucks? Does Rudyrules strike a match and torch the camp?

Maybe RR does torch the camp. Or, this could be a reference to the fire challenge, or the women seducing IC.

>Mystery Woman (off-camera, shot of all

Maybe it's Itzlisa again. She couldn't wait for her close-up cameo in ep 8. The Powerpuff girls sound kind of betty boopish (I do have kids).

Car and Woodstock are very interesting.

Final 2 hint?

There's a course to this game?

Well, DUH!

>(Shot inside shelter, SnoopySucks with a

Again, we need to figure out the symbolism for the owl.

zzzzzzzzzz

The woman with the coke bottles. With all the drug references, does this mean cocaine? Or is Coke a sponser?

>
>Outfrontgirl (confessional shot): I didn't come

>some cake-eating wannabe underwear model.

I also thought of Mon Cherie. Does she get to come back?

>(Shot of players entering tribal council

perfunctory clip

>Survivorerist (off-camera, singing to guitar strumming):
>"Working on myst'ries without any

Bob Seger is the guest? These lyrics could have a plethora of meanings.

>close-up of Dangerkitty looking angry,
>shot of IceCat running, shot

>owl taking flight, aerial view

This is great. Is whoever the owl represents the one who "escapes"? Is the "escape" physical or drug-induced?

>Ayannouncer: Be prepared for a twisting
>shock on the next BlowsVivor!

Is electricity involved in this "shock"? Why is Woodstock again in the clip?

Bummer, maybe one of our brilliant spoilers knows.

>EYE OF PROVIDENCE

I too thought of Rhode Island. Are any of our contestants connected to that state at all?

>MANDELBROT SET

too strange for my blood. Can it be scrambled or decoded? The real meaning doesn't even fit this bizarre show.

>OMPHALOS

This is fascinating. Lots of possibilities. If we go to the Oedipus connection, maybe Surv's mother visits. Or it could have to do with the strong women in the tribe.

>HALO EFFECT

The first thing I thought of was the radioactive fish in the last episode. There are so many other possibilities.

Do not take the brown gufu...

ROFLMAO!!

I was sure AyaP had had enough of our illegal, extracurricular activities. Thanks in advance to all the writers who continue to make sure we're entertained through our ordeal--saves us having to find toads or strange fungi to lick, to while away the boring hours between challenges!

The Brown Gufu is Bad..."

Don't even think about trying it, GT. If it's anything like the brown 'cid I once encountered, it's laced with belladonna.
Anyone but me worried that Witchcraft and/or Voodoo may be involved in this episode?

No logic for that, just a hunch...

*Anyone remember that my app for SV stated I could forage for medicinal herbs? Just a talent I have up my sleeve...*

Actually, there may BE some logic to that thought! Somewhere in the Swahili riddle is something about heavy magic or voodoo. . .

And difficult as it may be for me to pass up free pharmaceuticals (never met a trip yet that I didn't like), I will abide your warning and wait for some OFG-sanctioned recreationals. . .

"Cameo for Pooh?"
Posted by Outfrontgirl on 08-06-01 at 01:03 PM
On the vote thread, Lisapooh asks (well, begs, really) for a cameo if not a close-up, and supports her logic quite well. I figured I'd reply over here and not mess up the vote thresd...

Pooh, I absolutely thought of you in connection with the owl. The wise owl and Pooh go together, and so does Rabbit. I didn't see enough of your other friends to go with it as a prediction, though. I don't know of any other birds in your stories beyond Owl, or WOL--his preferred spelling.

I did toy with with the idea of writing a Pooh-thematic episode, but there were too few characters left and they didn't match up right with the personalities. Fun idea, though.

dabo, the only thing "the birds" means to me would be the Hitchcock movie, as I said, I am stumped.

Where are the challenge spoilers, huh? You see I couldn't pick a bootee probably when I couldn't tell if the challenge favored IceCat or not. We expect an IC spoiler before airtime! Where is that HawkEye, fooling around with buggy again instead of leaking memos? Slacker spoiler!

Yes, poor Pooh does think the world should revolve around her, so we should endeavor not to burst her balloon. . . I am ashamed I wasn't able to squeeze in another cameo, myself, cuz she's one who really did merit one. . . Pooh--I can attest to OFG's intent to use a Pooh theme for #9--she's not hot-doggin' ya!

And I would also like to second the request for some vid caps of the challenges! That bogus memo just got us paranoid about bungee-jumping and wallet-snooping! What gives?!

The other bird in the Pooh canon is Kissie, the bluebird raised by Rabbit. Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was written by Evan Hunter ("Blackboard Jungle) also known as Ed McBain (87th Precinct series). No comment on whether any of this will help.

"If the race of man should be left naked upon a desert island, we should become extinct in six weeks. A few individuals might linger, but in a year would become worse than monkeys." (Samuel Butler, "Erewhon")

>>Kissie, the bluebird raised by Rabbit.

Not in my books! Must be some Disney goo "improvement"...
As a Pooh purist, I accept no add-ons to da genius of De Milne.

And, if that was a question, no, it didn't help ME.

I couldn't remember the bluebird from the Pooh books either, I suppose she may be just a Disney concoction. {sigh} You were supposed to say "It's Kessie not Kissie" so I could say "Oh, that changes everything, back to the drawing board...."

Well how am I supposed to know what I'm supposed to say to set you up properly if you don't send me an email first? I'm happy to oblige, but I'm not psychic you know!
