In the end, I enjoyed the show.

Did anyone else find the guy (whose name completely escapes me now) a bit underwhelming? Nice looking, but very monotone.

I'm going to be annoyed if Kelly wins the money and the guy. I was thrilled that he kept Paige instead of Christy. Christy was scary.

Hi Fifi, welcome to the boards!

I think his name was Rob. I thought he was a real drip. I agree with you about Christy, she was really scary. Kelly is probably one of the most obnoxious/shallow reality contestants yet.

Rob was a TOTAL drip. I wouldn't have any problem choosing a million dollars over him, in fact I could probably be bought for a pizza. The guy was good looking but he had no grasp of verbal skills..and he's an attorney? If he made one more comment about someone's dress, I was going to scream at the TV. "Nice dress, you have nice dresses" made up about 60% of his conversations. He is Evan from Joe Millionaire without a sense of humour and with a job that pays more.

Some of the women seem pretty normal and bright; I agree Kelly is horrible, but of course there has to be one woman we love to hate. I think the show will be interesting but I can't imagine Rob redeeming himself; I have a feeling I will like him less and less with each show.

This show could potentially be very good... or very bad.

Rob seemed very uncomfortable around the women, having trouble talking to them, and vice versa. Maybe it's just game nervousness. And I'll betcha money he gets to review tapes of his talks with the ladies at lunch, because he sure remembered a lot about those conversations. And the way they do dismissals is both interesting and painful to watch. "Will you accept this rose?" sure beats the heck out of "Well, ya wanna hang around and go out?"

It's an intereesting premise... give the girls their million dollar checks, and tell them that HE cannot know about it.

The first episode did get off to a slow start. How many scenes of a woman in an evening dress descending (or ascending) a staircase are we going to have to watch? And, they're going very "Fox" with the cattiness of the women, and the potential for FIGHTING!

By the way, what womens' shoe company is sponsoring this? That seemed to be the entire emphasis of Ep. 1. Not that I mind seeing good-looking women in high heels , but someone please give Rob a hankerchief to wipe the drool away.

But... it's miles better than "Mr. Personality", so let's see what shakes out. (Edited to add: clown pun not intended)

"For Love or Money", I like the elimination ceremony. And I was thrilled when he kept Paige because he sounded like he was going to get rid of her. Next week their getting rid of half of them??? Let's all pray Kelly is one of them.

Is it jus tme, or are ALL of them in it for the money? I don't like this show because, to me, it looks like they are all going to pick the money over the guy. I mean, I'm probably still going to watch it, when it comes to the individual dating, no, but I like the group stuff and the elimination.

The show looks like the girls will end up picking money. We all know Kelly and Stacey are going for the money. The girl with the short hair is also going for the money (Christina?, she has short flippy hair).

All I hear from most of the girls is winning the million and nothing about how great Dave is (If you can say he's great).

For a lawyer, he's pretty inarticulate.

"You look pretty... that's a nice dress you have on, it's sparkly... We, uhhhh, had a great time talking..."

Is his name Evan Marriott?

The girls I like on the show are Alima and Paige. I also liked the math teacher.

So next week, it's gets all slutty? I'm going to see how people react. The girls who are opposed to the activities, I will probably come in here and rave about.

I am glad to see I'm not the only one that thought Rob was a drip. When I first saw him, I'm thinking "wow, he's gorgeous". Then he opened his mouth. What a snooze-fest! Oh well, seems like he'll do something next week cause the previews show him apologizing to the girls for his behavior. Hmmmm maybe he'll actually laugh out loud.

I agree about Christy. Did anyone notice how un-lady like she was when they went upstairs after meeting Rob for the first itme? She looks like such a slob. So glad he picked Paige over her. Also, how convenient that Paige and Christy are the last two left. Could this show be fixed? *wink wink* (Oh don't all act so shocked LOL).

One thing I really laughed at was when Rob got the bag of cookies (from Kelly?). Once she left, he looked around to see if anyone was looking, then he opened the bag and stuffed a cookie in his mouth. A man with priorities LOL

I do enjoy the elimination ceremony. Love to see them all on the hot seat

Edited because I forgot my manners: Hi Fifi! Welcome to the boards

Oh yes, the cookies!! Did anyone else notice anything Evan- like when Rob, all hunched over, scoffed down the cookie? That was slightly surreal to me. He couldn't wait till later??

Was it me, or did Christy COMPLETELY remind you of the "two face" Seinfeld episode -- the one with the woman who looked great sometimes, other times... not so much.

This show's Production and editing values were a lot better than Joe Millionaire's. For that I'm thankful.

I think anyone who goes on a reality dating show can expect to be burned. I don't have a problem with anyone deciding to go for the money. I mean if you get both that's great, but I'd take a million dollars over a relationship that has an extremely miniscule chance of succeeding.

As of right now, I have no problems with Kelly winning either. None of the girls I like enough for me to "root" for them. If Kelly wins, at least she gets credit for knowing what she wants and going for it.

Probably in the minority but I like this bachelor. He seems intelligent, yet grounded. He doesn't reek of egotism like other bachelors on other shows and he doesn't come across as a ditz like Joe Millionaire did. He isn't very much of a ladies man though. Of course my feelings may change after one episode.

"RE: For Love or Money"

I do agree with you. I don't mind if they admit they want the money. Hell, I'd go for the money also. The thing I didn't like about one of the girls, and I think it is Kelly, is that everything has a price tag and brand name. Can't stand that type of girl.

I'll have to see Rob a few more times to get a full impression of him. I love his looks, thought he didn't have enough to say and was very monotone. I also noticed his eyes roaming all over the women's bodies (of course, why wouldn't he look). However, after a while, it seemed like he was leering at them in a creepy "horny" kind of way LOL

I think he becomes an ego-maniac in the next episode. The girls are going to be falling all over him for hopes of winning a million and he's going to think it's because he's so amazing.

I do like the format of this show - the elimination process was great! I loved seeing the girls sweat. I was sorry for Tracy - she may have liked him a little.

Of course they are all going after the money, but maybe.. MAYBE.. someone will end up liking Rob, too. ? (we can all hope, can't we?)

if i were on that show i would try to get all the girls to love me like a sister and then i would try to convince them that this is the real deal for me and F the money i don't even want it i just -really- *sob* REALLY *sob* -LOVE- him

i think he gets an ego on the next show, too. what a dork. he's going to feel like a total tool when he realizes the reason everyone is falling all over him. tool.

In my opinion the guy is just a prop to dress the set. One does not usually check personality when one is choosing a flower arrangement, just if it looks good with the rest of the decor.

I do like the fact that the guy can't hide behind a rose (or lack thereof) to turn someone down. He has to look them in the eye and tell them he's not interested.

Edited to add: Welcome Fifi.

It didn't matter to me who Rob Campos(I believe that's the name) chose as long as Christy C,the Scary Witch, was eliminated. While she did appear beautiful in the beginning, her drunken rampage clinched her elimination for me.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Tracey, one of last night's eliminees, the one who stated in her intro that she was a virgin?
Paige may have the promise ring but that's as far as her future sexual activity since she said she wasn't a virgin. But help me remember if it was Tracey that said she was still a virgin or if the one who said it is still there.

The blonde girl was chosen. He got rid of the gorgeous lady.
Blond girl is cute though. Can't remember either name.

Rob was quite underwhelming. In real life, I don't demand that a guy be articulate all the time, in fact it's cute if he gets a little tongue-tied. But TV bachelors oughta be able to put a few different sentences together--preferably something better than "I like your dress, it matches the carpet." We may not have seen the best of Rob (and judging from next week's preview, we're not about to) but if you're going to do this, come up with a guy who's metaphorically worth a million. Plus, the hairdo just screamed "I am uncomfortable with my bald spot".

It was cool that he had to confront each girl and give her a yes or no, but since Rob is a little short of articulate, the producers should have come up with something ceremonial or a catchphrase to resolve those little conversations.

I think I'll watch next week, though.

>the producers should have come up with something ceremonial or a catchphrase to resolve those little conversations.

Maybe "that's a nice dress" is the planned catchphrase.

"RE: For Love or Money"
Posted by SurvivinDawg on 06-03-03 at 11:39 AM
I think it was Rob's "catchphrase" because he couldn't come up with much else. He really struggled talking to these ladies. He gawked more than talked, and gave a lot of them the obvious up-and-down looks that (IMHO) could've looked a little less... well "leering", ifyouknowwhatImean.

They'd ask him something and he'd almost "Duhh... duhh.." on the camera (who knows, they might have edited those out!). And, on a few occasions, he looked like this whole process was just torture to him... and I don't mean having to tell a girl to go home.

Evan Mariott, by way of contrast, exuded confidence, spoke well, and looked like he was having a good time. Andrew Firestone would be somewhere "in the middle", I guess.

This just adds to the dynamic of the whole thing, of course.

"catch phrases"
Posted by cqvenus on 06-03-03 at 03:38 PM
his other catch phrase during the elimination seemed to be "i just don't think it's going to work out"

wow, he was less eloquent than evan. and he doesn't have the $19,000/yr defense. sad, sad, sad.

Bald spot! Maybe.

I too like the confrontation. And I loved how Paige intimidated him into changing his mind.

"RE: For Love or Money"

ick there were so many things wrong with rob. i could easily choose a mil over him. he's a frickin' criminal DEFENSE atty (read: sc*mbag), he used to be in the military (sorry but i don't find the military attractive in any way), he likes sailing (hate it), and he's moderately good-looking in a very generic sort of way. he is no prize, that's for sure. good thing there's a million dollars involved.

i really am glad that evil drunk girl is gone, too. granted, paige is the most untalented artist i've seen (2nd only to anna nicole smith), but nobody has any right to draw all over someone else's paintings, and then try to justify it by saying "i'm an artist! i express myself!" not in -my- painting, b!tch.

Welcome to the boards, Fifi! Come on over to Off Topic and get to know all of us better.

Did anyone else find the guy (whose name completely escapes me now) a bit underwhelming?

That is an understatement. This guy is a tool, AND he's not the sharpest one in the shed. After we were into the show one hour and he hadn't appeared, I bet my DH that there was something wrong with him.

I think this show has possibilities as a good drinking game. Drink every time Rob says, "It's just not going to work out" and "Nice dress." I imagine if I had done that last night, I could have lasted through the entire show.

If I'da had to drink each time he said, "nice dress," I'd have been puking in the toilet for the eliminations.

Welcome Fifi, I hope you stay here and join the fun.

I liked this show. I like watching catty women and you know that since money is involved, it will get worse. The guy is a complete moron.

I am going to love to hate Kelly, and probably Paige too. That innocent act wears on me.

It's like doing the same interview over and over and over again -and that is what's monotonous. What can you say that you haven't already said. It's such a personal thing, it must be difficult to talk about openly in such a public way. He probably just realized he didn't have much to choose from, and he was trying to be as judicious as possible.

Hasn't anyone ever noticed that they don't really talk on these shows? They don't really get to know each other. They never ask about friends, family, work, hobbies, beliefs etc? Dating is nice, and they go on some great trips, but if you can't talk, it would be unbearable to me and extremely long, long days.

The NBC slime really shouldn't be doing these shows, they don't have a clue about the real world and normal people. All they really know is their little world, and THEIR world is filled with gold diggers - any one of those women would have loved to have landed an "account" with some NBC producer, executive, camera guy whatever.
