"Big Brother 13, ECST, Week 8: The Widows Dani, The Widow Jeff, The Widow Zombie, Oh, and Fester and a Dude"

Posted by samboohoo on 08-28-11 at 05:15 PM
This thread will start with the Sunday show, August 28.

It may be more of a Central, Mountain or West Coast Spoiler thread depending on which of the Widows/Widowers Irene have power and internet access.

I am posting from my office. Thanks to a generator, I will be able to watch the show tonight but not post. And, depending on Comcast, I may never post in another ECST for the rest of the season.

The way I saw it though was that Shelley got caught first because Jeff lied directly to Rachel and then because Adam is in love with Jeff.

Still doesn't excuse Shelly. She's a professional spin doctor. Adam called it. She was spinning like mad trying to deflect the blame from herself. Despicable. She doen't deserve the money. Good luck swaying the jury like she claims. She's not only despicable but she's also delusional.

Admittedly, she could have dragged Jordan out of there a little faster, but it's not as if Jordan wasn't fighting her most of the way...

What Shelly hasn't realized: pretty much everyone else in the cage also has a family and plans to use the money in some way for them should they win. Her excuse is the universal one -- but she's the only one who gets to play it?

It's possible to feel sorry for Jordan here. And it's really possible to wish some of the cage doors came with locks.

Having family isn't exactly the same, responsibility-wise, as having to provide for an 8 year old child. As far as I know, all the others have adult family members that are responsible for their own welfare.

But it was funny to see rachel baby-sitting Jordan for a change

The idea of Shelly actually providing anything but grief for anyone is too silly to believe.

Anyone notice the blank expression on Porsche's face during the competition is the same one she wears whenever anyone's being emotional in her vicinity?

Shelly's edit is taking a few hits here, but they've mostly been rib jabs: stunners that can be shrugged off. No knockout blows yet.

And convince me Adam was trying to win that. His DR sure didn't do the trick.

"RE: The snakes are symbolic."
Posted by michel on 08-28-11 at 09:22 PM
I thought the way the competition was designed was totally unfair. It should have been that the player that finished last in the preliminaries gets eliminated. Player #1 takes on Player #4 while Player #2 winds up against Player #3, the two winners facing each other in the final round.

The way it was done, Porsche accumulated practice rounds while Jordan was being iced on the side-line. But that just goes to show that BB is in the business of entertainment and ratings, not sports.

Actually, the closest comparison is the Pro Bowlers Association (PBA) tour, which follows (or at least it used to follow) the same format we saw tonight... qualifications, then 5 vs 4, winner vs 3, winner of that vs 2 and the final winner vs 1.

While Porsche had all of the "practice rounds", a mistake in any one of those rounds could have eliminated her early. Bowlers don't want to start on the bottom and bowl a lot of "practice" games, they want to bowl a single match to win the trophy!

"RE: The snakes are symbolic."
Posted by Outfrontgirl on 08-29-11 at 05:56 AM
Yes but bowlers already know how to bowl. With a new piece of equipment and a game like a table maze, each practice round gives you more command of the course. Or compare it to a hole of golf that is unfamiliar, practice fives you a learning curve. As michel said, Jordan got stiff from standing on the side, while Porsche was all warmed up for the final.

At least production didn't known who would play in what order.

Like OFG said who, besides Coach, had ever rolled a ball on the back of a snake? Porsche got better as the rounds went by.

Agree. This is what I said to my husband. Porsche got to play in every single round. I would have liked to have seen the lowest scorer eliminated each round.

"Flush the format..."
Posted by Estee on 08-28-11 at 08:59 PM
...improve the episode. This was not only one of the better airings of the season, but one of the stronger efforts we've seen in a while, period.

And did it hit anyone else that Porsche could have saved herself a lot of trouble just by calling out Jordan as a partner the instant she finished reading the card?

"RE: Flush the format..."
Posted by michel on 08-28-11 at 09:30 PM
Really? I thought this was a "we are so sad that Jeff left, we are going to do as if he was still here" first half. That was followed by a "There isn't enough hate for Shelley out there yet so let's destroy her character even more" second half. All of which was accompanied by Rachel and Jordan doing their Tearleaders' routine on the sidelines.

"RE: Flush the format..."
Posted by Estee on 08-28-11 at 09:34 PM
I was just satisfied to get some kind of post-edit glimpse of footage that everyone was completely blacked out on -- and not having the Same Old Episode Format made what did appear feel slightly refreshing.

Besides, I disliked Shelly before it was a meme.

"RE: Flush the format..."
Posted by michel on 08-28-11 at 10:03 PM
I agree that last Thursday's episode had left many holes but how many minutes of post-Thursday footage did we get if we don't count the challenge and Pandora's box? 2 minutes maybe. I think a couple of confessionals would have filled in the holes without having to feature a departed player.

"RE: Flush the format..."
Posted by cahaya on 08-29-11 at 01:03 AM
I think 25 minutes was way too long to dwell on what had already past, but it will serve to explain a lot of jury votes in the future. It was an eye-opener, though, to just how hot it got in there in the two hours leading to the first eviction and leading up to the second eviction. Both Jeff and Shelly totally lost their cool. See that one scene where he practically pushed her into the room to have a word with her before his eviction?

And really, how much maneuvering are we going to see at this point, without any leaders and the herds already locked into pastures on opposite sides of the fence?

So, I see Estee's point, there was more information in the past footage than any we would have seen more currently.

Make that more than 25 minutes. Yes, almost half the show gone after all of the double eviction histrionics and Jeff's blaze of glory out the door.

"Pandora's box"
Posted by cahaya on 08-29-11 at 00:59 AM
Porsche admits her mistake in getting too excited and rushing into opening it. Shelly laments the timing of it. Rachel and Jordan see daylight as the clouds part. Suddenly, the probability of them both making it through next round goes from almost nil to at least one in three.

Tonight's blog recap with more details.

"RE: Pandora's box"
Posted by michel on 08-29-11 at 07:50 AM
But production wants the HoH to open the door so how much was a mistake and how much was simply relenting to off-camera pressure.

"RE: Pandora's box"
Posted by suzzee on 08-29-11 at 08:54 AM
I vote off camera pressure, it wouldn't take much especially if the Pandora's Box had been talked up in DR sessions. It only takes one nudge about "Golden POV" to make any newbie drool like a St. Bernard.

I thought internet stuff came from satellites in the sky or something so if you have electricity, you have internet.
But I guess maybe if you have a connection thru a phone line & the phone line is down - no internet?

Shows what little I know about technology.
I've always said I don't have a clue how most stuff works; but as long as it does? I'm happy.

"RE: Wednesday Show"
Posted by samboohoo on 08-31-11 at 04:28 PM
We have DirecTV for TV and have Comcast for phone & cable. There is a line outside somewhere that runs to the house for the phone & cable. Comcast went out Saturday before the power and hasn't been restored.

I don't think we can get DirecTV where we are for internet. And we can't stand Comcast, which is why we went to DirecTV in the first place, but Comcast - for now - is the monopoly on high speed internet where we are. We pay for both together as a package. I am happy to pay DirecTV $100 more per month not to have Comcast for cable because they suck that much, and because DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket.

We cannot get Verizon Fios yet. When we can, we're switching. I think Fios has NFL Sunday Ticket. Not sure. I would hate to lose DirecTV because their service is second to none.

Well I totally blew that last night. I was thinking it didn't come on until 9, and the DVR didn't record it. So I turned it on around 8:40.

I didn't see much. No Noms. No Veto. I saw the Veto ceremony. And I saw Shelly, of course, making nice to the person with power.

Shelly is clearly an idiot. She told Jordan that she evicted Jeff because she would never be able to get to the Finals through the two of them, but then she turns around and tells Jordan and Rachel that she's willing to work with them to get them to final 2. WTF. Idiot.

I only caught glimpses of last night's episode (with the exception of watching most of the Veto competition) and I'm out tonight due to preseason football: no broadcast locally until 1:37 a.m. Friday. Oddly, the strongest impression I got from those glimpses was just how harsh Kalia's edit is. Yes, she's giving them a lot to work in -- but the rats aren't holding any of it back. We're at the point where it wouldn't surprise me to see some of Kalia's Happy Fun Dog Time Stories make the air.

(Which would shift a few people off Shelly, but there probably isn't a lot of overlap in those crowds.)

There was a certain irony in having Shelly hang on to Porsche without benefit, not to mention Kalia counting on keeping a grip on Lawon for a change...

Does anyone not have preseason football on their CBS feed tonight? Right now, my only resort is to wait until 9:05 and then check to see who won HoH -- presuming we don't get another endurance run. Until then, it's Jets 0, Eagles 0, Starters On Field For New York 1.

ETA: I just want it on the record that the Eagles called a timeout on their first play from scrimmage, freezing the clock with 14:53 to go in the 1st quarter. Because, you know, the first play of the game is something you just can't draw up in advance.

We might actually have to wait until 2:30 AM to hear what happened. Are there really games in every CBS market tonight?

"RE: National blackout."
Posted by Estee on 09-01-11 at 08:43 PM
According to ESPN, there are fifteen preseason games going right now. The only NFL markets which have their game tomorrow are Oakland and Seattle -- which wouldn't get the episode for several hours anyway.

So we're looking for either a direct network feed or a media market which normally receives no NFL games. I'm not sure 'Canada' counts as an answer.

The Duo Twist is back. The Newbies are in charge, but for how long.

Previously, Dani left. Shelly flipped. Jeff left, and Jordan snapped. Production intervened, er I mean, Porsche opened Pandora's box, winning $5k for her and for Kalia, but the Duo Twist was back.

Rachel won Veto and saved herself and Jordan. The only ones to put up were Shelly & Adam. Shelly tried to go back to the vets. Previously saying she voted Jeff out because he stood in the way of her and the money, she is now ready to hand it over to Rachel and Jordan if they keep her.

Tonight, we finally get to see the Jury House!

'So why don't we send you to the jury right now so you can start working on that immediately?'

You have to congratulate Shelly: it takes a lot of work to come up with a lie Jordan can see through. (And if Jordan can't see through this one, gawds help her, because her brain never will.)

"RE: Thursday"
Posted by michel on 09-01-11 at 09:21 PM
Jordan and Rachel had a dual DR session, Rachel calling them Jochel. *barf* They are happy to have all the power.

Shelley wants to find a way to stay safe so she stares at the fortune teller for 3 hours, hoping for a magic power. As soon as she walks out of the room, the lady starts laughing at her.

Shelley offers Rachel, her mother's rings to prove she won;t send her off next week if she wins HOH. In DR, Shelley tells us the ring is fake.

Adam says he is with Jordan and Rachel. Rachel hates floaters

They talk to Shelley and Jordan starts to think they could keep Shelley.

After commercial, Julie asks Jordan about being teamed up with rachel.
Jordan: She;s a handful.

Kalia says she didn't think opening Pandora's box was worth it.

Shelley says vopting out Jeff broks Jordan;s heart and it pains her.

Adam loves being around women.

Next: Jury house.

"Segment 1"
Posted by samboohoo on 09-01-11 at 09:15 PM
Day 62.

Previously, nobody came between Rachel and Jordan. And Brenchel became Jochel.

Shelly went all out to save herself. She thinks it's working.

Adam decided to kiss a little aras himself.

The mirror started talking to Shelly. Oh wait, that's the fortune teller. She channels Lawon and looks for a magic power from it. Shelly spent hours - 3 - waiting for a fortune.

Shelly thinks she has been playing the game, so she goes to Rachel to talk about it. Shelly offers Rachel a three-diamond ring that she got from her parents. She then offers to cut off her ear or finger.

Rachel tells Shelly she is a liar, but she also tells her she's been playing the best game.

Rachel "floats" the idea of keeping Rachel to Jordan. Adam walks in. He tells them he's been with them. He will promise them anything to keep him there. Rachel has a hunch about Adam not being genuine. She had a hunch about Shelly, you know, and no one believed her.

Rachel thinks it's best to keep Shelly because she will always be a target. Jordan is very leary of it. And Jordan actually knows the "fool me once, fool me twice saying." Does she actually know what it means? Who knows.

Shelly tells Jochel the only comp she threw was the banana challenge, and that was the only one she threw. Production then shows us Shelly throwing the robot challenge.

Jordan is staring to think about keeping Shelly.

She then offers to cut off her ear or finger.

And if it had been November, Endemol would have provided the scalpel.

This is rapidly turning into the 'Please don't tell me they're falling for this crap' segment of a con artist movie. Shelly can sell this. She just can't get the 500K insurance policy on its value. Backstab on this one (which she has to do) and while you can credit her for gameplay, much of the jury will go bitter enough to choke all of Food Network.

It's also killing her edit -- and people were backlashing on her before this.

"RE: Segment 1"

Yes, wednesday softened her edit a lot but this was right back in the crapper but she did it to herself with the false ring and the lie about throwing challenges.

Living Room:

Julie asks Jordan what it's like to be partnered with Rachel. Jordan tells us Rachel is a handful, entertaining, and never boring.

Kalia's first thought about Porsche opening Pandora's box was that she hoped it was worth it.

Shelly: The most difficult thing this week has been the game moves/personal moves and hurting Jordan. It broke her heart so much so that she lied to her again.

Adam: The best thing about living with all of these women. It hasn't phased him. He misses his appletinis and 90210.

Rachel: Brendon was probably "shocked" to see Dani & Jeff.

Jury House:

Brendon's been working out and enjoying the house alone. He's been studying, playing one-man ping pong. Here comes Dani. He would like to see Dani or Rachel.

Shocker!!! Ugghh. Please make it stop. Brendon is happy to see Dani because Rachel is still in the game. Dani tells us Brendon really is still alive, so he is a zombie. Brendon is happy Jeff backdoored her.

They watch the video.

All smiles for now.

Dani wants Jeff to come in next. Or Adam because he doesn't deserve to be there.

Here comes . . . Jeff!

Shocker!! Again!!

Redskins up 17-3 on Tampa Bay start of the 3rd Quarter. Now this, Dani, might be a real shocker. Mike Sellers is playing defense? Again, Dani, this is a shocker.

Double Eviction sucks! Dani is so happy. She's learned a new word: Karma. Dani tells Jeff she was going to keep them safe. Dani celebrates her alliance's win.

Video:

Jeff wants to puke watching Kalia win. Jeff sees that he threw his clown shoe out of the bin and that's how he lost. Ooops. That hurt even more.

I'd rather hear Jeff say Clown Shoe than Dani say just about anything.

Dani celebrates Porsche and Kalia doing what she would have wanted.

They all seem to be getting along rather well. Jeff is sick. He wants Shelly out next. Dani is gloating.

"RE: Segment 3"

the point was to spin the story in her favor: You got me but what did it get you? If you had kept me, you'd still be there.

That is typical of exit interviews but we rarely see it so evident.

"RE: Segment 3"

The argument against is twofold: not even Jeff is going to fall for that -- and in the unlikely event that he did, Porsche ruined it a few seconds later by doing just what Daniele would have wanted. All Daniele did was make her time in the jury house that much harder. Until Shelly arrives, she won't have a friend in her immediate world -- and from all we've seen of her play, she doesn't operate well alone.

"Porsche in HOH."

She regrets opening Pandora's box. She felt secure with the newbies. She's happy for the money. She's not sure of the status of the final four with Jochel because they offered it before Pandora's box, and because they haven't told Kalia what they are doing. She wants to be sitting next to Kalia at the end and not be against a Vet.

Jeff in jury house: We see that he did throw one of the clown shoes right off the side of his box. It makes him sick to see that.

Danielle is pleased that she is responsible for the three pwople being in the jury house. She is even more happy to hear Porsche say that she doesn't change the nominations because that's what danielle would have wanted.

Porsche HoH: She wants to be F2 with kalia. Thinks she would win. She doesn't want the house to divide between veterans and newbies but she wants to sit next to a newby (!!)

She also says she doesn;t know the status of Rachel and Jordan's F4 offer because the two haven't told Kalia how they would vote.

Commercial and then the vote:

Shelley speach loves her family but pleads her case directly to the vets and pledges openly to go to the end against the newbies.

Adam says BB is his dream and he wants them to hit the snooze button so he can dream a little longer (Wow, talk about floaters)

Kalia votes: Adam (even if it doesn't count she says)
Rachel votes to evict: Shelley (audience applauds)
Jordan votes: Shelley. (hear claps)

We know the hamsters can hear it when the audience applauds loudly enough. That means Shelly heard clapping during the vote -- and when she goes out, she just might realize the joy was because she was leaving.

Shelly: I want to say to Tony and Josie, I love you so much.

Tonight Jordan and Rachel you are the most important people in this game. I am totally with you two, not anyone else in here. They are not with you, but I totally am. Audience roars with laughter. Can they hear it?

Adam: Gonna keep it simple. This is my dream. Please hit the snooze button to keep that going. Can't wait to hang out outside.

Kalia: It doesn't count, but I vote to evict Adam.
Rachel: Umm, Shelly.
Jordan: Shelly. I'm so sorry. I hope I'm not wrong.

Shelly out 2/1.

She tells them all Good Job. Have fun.

CBS only has Shelly-friendly fans in the studio this week.

We have fish for a moment.

Julie calls Shelly a fighter. Shelly tells us the ring is not real.

Shelly: I tried to make a big move last week. It hurt me to do it, but I needed to. The reason I did it was because I didn't think I'd have the chance to do it again. Dani and Jeff were both out. I think my move sucked. Early, big, dumb move.

Julie tells Shelly she's going to jury to face an angry Jeff.

Shelly: I know I hurt them. I will apologize. I love them. I want to be their friend. If I had known what Jordan's reaction wuold have been, I wouldn't have done it.

Goodbyes:

Adam: You were a good player, but played yourself out.

Porsche: Oh, no, who's going to clean.

Kalia: Thanks for being my mom.

Rachel: I know rings. Your ring is a fake like you.

Jordan: I never would have thought someone as nice as you could be such a beyotch. I would never disrespect my elders, but I wasn't going to let you fool me again.

Shelly's thinking of the wall she will need to fill with "lying sentences" when she gets home. Little does she know, she'll need to build several very secure walls first.

I don't think China's going to allow the export.

Shelley leaves graciously saying "good job" to everyone and hugging.
She is received by applause, no booes heard.
She tells Julie that her move was dumb and wouldn't repeat it.

Goodbye speaches:
Adam: Good player but outplayed herself
Porsche and Kalia thank the "mother" who kept the house clean
Rachel says she knows ring and that one wasn't worth $500K
Jordan said she never expected someone as nice as Shelley would betray her and Jeff.

Shelley leaves saying she had a blast

"HOH"

Physical challenge.

Rollin' in the Dough

They must make their way under giant rolling pins and climb through sugary goo. They have 13 minutes to get to the other side and bring back as many donuts to their stand as they can.

It's 9:52 now. I don't think we have 13 minutes.

Rachel has one. Adam second. Jordan third, Kalia fourth.

Rachel is doing well. No way Kalia wins this. She's already ready for a nap. Rachel already has 3 coming in while Kalia goes out for 3.

Tell Kalia that if she wins, she gets to eat the donuts.

*sigh* Another recycled competition. This has not been the season of original ideas. It also hasn't been the season of enjoyable players, sound strategy, or tolerable editing, so at least they're consistent.

13 minutes to crawl through muck across backyard to collect donuts.
Bring one back at a time and the one with the most donuts wins.
We see the first minute with rachel holding a small lead over Adam. Jordan is 3rd Kalia is too fat.

This seems rachel to win unless she runs out of gas. Adam would win then.

"More HOH"

9:10 left.

Adam has 8 I think. Rachel 9 I think. Kalia is still awake.

I'll pick up in the Live Feeds Thread.

I'm having a hard time dealing with the idea of Adam playing an HoH to win. He must know he's in a horrible position right now.

Another Double Eviction to speak.

Wednesday will have an eviction show and a live eviction Thursday.

We've had this before. I wonder if the feeds get cut early next week.

Julie also promised the return of pandora's box, celebrity edition. (I bet they are waiting to see how HoH develops before deciding how the twist will play out.)

Boo, this was fun to do with you!
