"Rachel's Amazing Social Skillz!"

She can read people like a book.

A closed book.

One of those old-fashioned diaries with a little lock on the cover. And a key. Which was lost forty years ago. And the cover is in a foreign language. But can she ever read it!

Well -- phonetically...

Someone on CBS who can read people better than Rachel? Sheldon Cooper.

Well, she was the first to realize that Matt was lying to everyone. She knew Monet didn't like her even if Monet never said anything bad about her or to her! And I think she can read Brendon pretty well.

We are about to go on a journey that makes Thailand look like an emotional joyride. Please stand by.

You must be this clueless to board.

I think there may be a slight difference between being socially adept (graceful) and social skills. Maybe Rachel is the female "Evil #####" who plans to bulldoze her way through to the end. She wins competitions, and she isn't totally clueless about what the others think of her. I just don't think she cares - except, of course, for when fake tears are cued up. And that would make Brendan what? Rachel's "Danielle"?

He's not quite on that level of emotional manipulation, but he doesn't have the same degree of connection to work with either. And he's nowhere near as whiny... plus there's just general principles: I'm really reluctant to call anyone a Danielle without about eight tons of proof. Metric.

As for Rachel, dunno. (Let me know when she starts band-dropping.) But Michel proposed a theory in Spoilers, saying Rachel may be following the Sugar road -- it's not about winning, it's about showing off your acting skills by creating the maximum amount of drama for reacting to.

Of course, that assumes Rachel has acting skills...

Or that Rachel has good acting skills, for that matter.

When did lack of acting skills stop anyone from believing they could be actors?

Rachel feels making fun of someone is the sincerest form of flattering them.

Rachel is gonna be flattered like she's never been flattered before.

Loved Britney's expression when she said: "Busted!"

I think Rachel watched too many celebrities getting roasted, she forgot she isn't a celebrity.

Too bad Rachel lacks social skillz. She could have been a Janelle, but she'll probably just be another actress wannabe.

I beg to differ on the Janelle comparison. I don't think Rachel comes close to Janelle's charisma. Janelle did annoy me at first but then she grew on me. Rachel, on the other hand, is growing like a rash. Janelle owned her inner b!tch. Rachel keeps looking for apologies.

The way she pinches up her face to fake cry, totally bad acting.
She wanted a showmance because she thought it was good TV.

Here is my take on Rachel.
She was the nerdy girl in jr high, and all the comestics, hair extensions and boobies in the world can't make her feel like anything but the nerdy girl from jr high. She comes off as fake because she feels fake. She spends her life trying to be the hot girl, but she really is still that awkward kid on the outside of everything.
The smart science girl, it's probably who she really is, and that is what she should have embraced, but she thinks acting like "Vegas" will make her popular.
The affected "Valley Girl" speak , the exaggerated way she dresses, the laugh that is so annoying ( because it isn't her 'real' laugh and people sense that) it's all a cover.

Now maybe I am just projecting, because when I first saw her I wanted her to be the "smart girl" who looks hot, instead of the "hot girl" who tells people she is smart.
The reason I think she is so fake and whiney and needy, is because she is playing the part of someone else, or trying to.

Good analysis, I think.

A reflection thru her of our basic insecurity that the way we perceive ourselves isn't good enough, so we have to appear outrageous to one extent or another, in exaggerated appearance, in exaggerated mannerisms, etc.

That makes sense.

While role-playing as someone you are not can get you some of what you want (gets her the attention she needs) it does tend to also get in the way of the sort of things that lets you really see other people (if I'm this fake they can't be real so not really getting a good feel for what you can trust and what you can't) and gets in the way of other people trusting you. That inauthentic thing just never seems to work well. What is that old adage about once you can fake sincerity...

I'm pretty sure that "I fight and fight and had to fight from day one around here" thing probably isn't new for Rachel. I think she came in expecting the fight and that is exactly what she got. I know I have a "I don't fit in, can't fit in" pattern that probably would rear it's ugly head if I ever went on a reality TV show. I eventually fit in but that whole first impression thing seems to elude me, especially under pressure.
