"Bad (or is it good?) news - about spoilers"

Posted by Okrajenny on 09-29-05 at 06:28 PM

Here are 2 identical spoilers from different boards, one supposedly TVGal's and one VideoGal's:
http://www.#####.com/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,26/func,view/id,24092/catid,33/
http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=95670&threadid=552063

(I tried to post this message on the excoboard at
http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=95670&threadid=552063
and they cancelled the message, then banned me when I tried to post it again)

.....my apologies, in the link:
http://www.#####.com/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,26/func,view/id,24092/catid,33/

..those five hash marks after the www. should be
s t a r t i n g o v e r t a l k, without the spaces.

I don't know why it posted with hash marks!)

The board is set to block the posting of certain words (especially non-PG13 swear words like ##### ##### ##### which should all be hash marks when I post). I assume that URL is blocked because we kinda had a problem with someone or someones that were promoting it.

TVGal only posts on my board, and the time of posting proves it. Her most recent spoiler, which was for 9/29, was posted on my board at 5:22 AM on Tuesday morning. VideoGal's was posted after 9 AM on Tuesday morning and Sweetpeach's was posted after 2 PM, which means both of those were stolen from my board. Those who wish to read them on my board first can PM me for application guidelines. We are only accepting a very limited number of applicants, because we've added over a hundred new members in the last week, but I am willing to talk to those who wish to join as long as they don't post the link or try to simply jump the application process, which so many did without my authorization.

That is a copyright violation to repost information someone posted anywhere on the web without permission to do so.

It probably isn't worth it to prosecute them for it (as there is likely no monetary damage to recover) but this link discusses the issue rather well: http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html

Why thank you for the info Snidget. I am checking into that. Isn't if funny how Sweetpeach and videogal haven't had spoilers the last couple days? hmmmm. i am too busy to do it right now and amazingly so are they.

Thanks to the mods on this board, AyaK, Snidget and Bebo. You guys rock and have the patience of saints.

"Copyright law"
Posted by AyaK on 09-30-05 at 12:57 PM
Under U.S. copyright law for the last thirty years or so, the author of an article holds its copyright (even if he or she doesn't do anything to register it). Thus, reprinting someone else's article without permission is a copyright violation, period.

This represented a change to "traditional" U.S. law, where anything that wasn't registered at the time it was published was considered to have gone into the public domain. FWIW, the U.S. made the change to harmonize global copyright law -- because U.S. copyright holders were getting ripped off by foreigners -- but the impact was a huge strengthening of rights for writers, including posters and bloggers.

However, TV Gal, the problem in pursuing any action against the infringers is that the only damages available are for injury to your opportunity to commercially exploit the copyrighted works. In the case of Web postings, such damages are trivial. BUT ... the terms of service from most Web hosts require that a site whose patrons have posted purloined copyrighted material remove it upon request. If the site fails to remove such material after documented requests, the Web host will shut down the site once it becomes aware of the continuing infringement.

That may be the better route for you to explore.

Hey TVgal....I miss you and the old board. It's nice to see you around though.

I miss TvGal too! I can hardly stand not being spoiled, it is really depressing not to have that to look forward to. I agree with TvGal about the mods on this board, though, they are amazing! (On the old boards I was Spoiler_Fun, and I really did think the spoilers were the most fun!)

Yep the spoilers were the best. I'd often log on late at night just to read them.

I'll really start to miss them once they get the new cast of women in the house. Right now I am not watching the couples show.

Now the moderators at the old board were fairly awful.

I agree the old moderators were horrible, this board is far superior in that regard. But the spoilers, what are we to do without them?? I used to get up bright and early and go straight to the computer for them. I agree, it will be hardest when we go back to the old format next week. I hope TvGal decides to post her spoilers here too, any chance of that?

If your list is taking more posters, I would love to be added. I enjoy TVGal's spoilers but I understand from last year why the caution. You can count on me to be respectful and appreciative. Thank you, AndrewlovesSO for doing this.

Hi Andrew, remember me? I was known as "safta" on the old board. Note: nainai is Chinese for Grandma. I'd love to be added to your board. How do I PM you? I can't figure out this format yet. I just discovered you and some of the other old timers here- how great to come across TVgal again- she is the BEST. By the way - Shana Tovah!

"Answers and a request"
Posted by Bebo on 10-01-05 at 08:13 PM
If you're interested in signing up for Andrew's message forum, please PM him or go directly to that site instead of posting it here. Don't expect him to come here looking for you - make things easier for him by going to him.

It's already been asked and answered on a number of threads on this forum why TVGal is not currently interested in posting her spoilers here. Like you, we'd be quite pleased if she changes her mind, but we respect her decision and hope you will too.

And folks, please stop turning threads into bashing of the moderators on the old forums. The people who are posting here now would like to move on and discuss the show instead of rehashing old complaints and arguments. This forum is for discussing SO Spoilers, not the previous message board.

Really Now I think TVGAL and Andrew need to get over thmeselves. They are very petty people to act like little children, I wont share my toys WAH WAH
I think by now people like myself can give a care less about her spoilers. We see the show so get over it.
I have news they are selling memberships for people to view the spoilers, I wouldnt give them a dime when I was approached with the offer. So petty I hope I speak for alot of us out there stick them spoilers where the sun dont shine Andrew and TVGAL, ever heard of Karma? You will

"Do NOT bash other posters here"

Please read our guidelines. Bashing other posters is prohibited on these forums. Since both Andrew and TVGal post here, they are protected by those guidelines too.

Keep your critcisms of them to yourself. These forums are intended to talk about the show, not bash other posters or their sites.

I dont think I bashed them I was asked a question if I would be willing to pay for spoilers and I want others to know they are not the great individuals some think. Bashing would include insults and untruths, none of which I posted!
Come on Mods they are not the upstanding citizens they would like you to believe.

Next time you have a question about a moderator's decision, please PM or email the mod. Calling them "petty", saying they act like children, etc. qualifies as bashing around here.

Our guidelines are clear - do not bash other posters. Period.

You said you wouldn't give them a dime when you were approached. Who approached you and how?

I'm locking this thread. Folks, this is a forum to discuss show spoilers, not to comment on how other message forums handle spoilers.

Please be considerate to the posters who come to this forum to discuss Starting Over and keep the discussions related to the show.
