"The shows fixed! Spotted fake "reality" by FOX"

Cool show, but I think some of the simple life "reality" is really staged by FOX. Example: Why would the family send Paris and Nicole food shopping and have them buy "EGGS" when they have chickens on the farm??? Did anyone notice how Paris threw the eggs in the back of the pickup? Obviously staged for the show!!!

The "fly swatter" scene was hillarious, but believable. People in the rest of the country may not be aware of the fact that in California (particularly in the desert, L.A. area), "flying insects" are almost non-existant!!! (NO Mosquitos, no big flies, no flying insects to speak of). So no big surprise the girls get freaked over "bugs". He-he....

My wife thinks so also. It looks like they may have modified the place in preparation of the show. The brick walk looks out of place and brand new. One of the bushes at the front looks like it still has a price tag on it.

Of course some of the scenes were staged... hell, the whole thing is staged, that's the point. The point of buying eggs was to see how they'd handle the responibility for transporting eggs -- just like the whole point of the series is to see who they'll act while living a "simple life."

The new addition on the house was the bribe used to get the family to participate. We did a couple of behind-the-scenes news stories based on reports from locals back when the show was filming, including the bad blood they left behind -- check out the stories near the bottom of the below link:

...obviously the well was around long before the porch was added -- otherwise they wouldn't have located it in the middle of the porch.

I agree. I don't like the show because it almost runs like a sitcom. It is way too scripted and produced.

This show does not feel like a reality show at all. I think the networks are so concerned about out doing each other that they forget that the show is supposed to be reality. And being reaily is what makes these shows work. Osbornes is scripted too (final episode from last season makes one wonder how much), but at least it has a more real feel too it.

This show is so scripted it is boring.

B-M has been doing "scripted" reality for almost a decade now... check out the last 8-9 years of "The Real World" -- there's nothing real or uncontrived about those situations, starting with the "jobs," the increasingly outlandish houses, etc.

The fact that TSL contains a lot of pre-planned outrageous situations that are designed to generate reactions from the "contestants" isn't new, what's new is that the "reality sitcom" appears to be a hot new emerging sub-genre of the reality genre (see "The Joe schmo Show," etc.), where the humor is the sole focus of the whole show.

AK did a story on it a few months ago:

I agree, I think the show is staged because I really have a hard time believing that people can be so incompetent, stupid, and lazy all at the same time. I sure hope for their sake that it is all an act.

On day two did anybody notice that early in the show their boss was wearing a sleeveless jersey, then a few times during the filling of the bottles both paris and the boss kept switching from sleeve clothing to sleeveless again. The change was even occuring in 'mid conversation' when he came back to check up on them before the hot tub scene. part of this scene must have been retaped when the tempature droped late in the day.-

Of course it is, Roko.

It's still moderately entertaining and funny in a Fox kind of way. What I don't get is why folks think Paris is pretty.

One question, why did Paris and Nicole bring thier bathing suits to work?

I take it all back! Episode 3 of The Simple Life will go down in history as an all time comedy classic. Bravo to FOX! Fake or not, they couldn't have scripted a funnier episode. LMAO ROFL.

The Sonic costumes nearly made me die laughing. Paris and Nicole are truly comic geniuses!

(BTW, did you see how Paris's face lit up when asked about her job. She honestly enjoyed "taking orders" and "serving food to customers" I guess the Hilton "hotel hospitality" genes have passed down from her great grandfather, Conrad Hilton. She is truly a "people person".)

I am beginning to think that, yes, the show is scripted....and that is okay because the response of the "villagers" to the "townies" is the real show....Yes, both paris and nicole carry on the funny their funny, outlandish antics and we laugh but our response to them is more on par with the locals...total bewilderment and shock.....and that is the result of a simple life

Yes, sisyphus, I think you nailed the premise Fox and B-M are using.

The Shallow Hal's and Hallie's who often watch Fox will just vicariously live and goof along with Paris and Nicole, doing the whole voyuer-to-the-rich-and-famous thing.

More perceptive types (Venn diagram including all posters here, ) will also appreciate the locals' reactions and acceptance to play along with the whole Big-City-Coastal-Snots who want to come and visit for a while and throw their money around. The production for them is probably better entertainment than watching Fox on the air!

You must not think me necessarily foolish because I am facetious, nor will I consider you necessarily wise because you are grave. -- Sydney Smith

I don't even think I can watch this show anymore because these girls just make me so mad! I am only a year older than them (23) and I do not find most of the stunts they pull amusing at all, just rude and obnoxious. I hope that this show is scripted because at least it would mean that maybe they are not the horrible b*tches that they appear to be! Either way, they need to GROW UP!

I'm with you SilverStar! I watched parts of tonight's episode and just couldn't take it anymore...scripted or not this show is about making a fool of someone and that someone is the viewer!

Wow..what a disapointment Episode 4 was! A real snoozer...wake me up for episode 5. FOX really dropped the ball with this show, after a brilliant comedy classic at Sonic last week.

Scripted? you bethcha' Funny? not really!

Looking forward to watching Nicole be an OB-GYN tomorrow.
