Feel free to jump on in and try to make your influences on the remaining past winner's chances at winning their 2nd survivor title.

We're currently down to our final 6...

with the most recent, the 9th, TC turning out like so...

JP: Once the vote have been read, the survivor who receives the most votes must immediately get up, grab their torch, have it snuffed and take the walk of shame to join the jury.

The first vote is for...

Ethan

...

The next vote is for...

Ethan

...that's two votes for Ethan

The next vote is for...

Ethan

...that's three votes Ethan.

The next vote is for...

Chris

... that's 3 votes for Ethan and 1 vote for Chris

The next vote is for...

Chris

... that's 3 votes for Ethan and 2 votes for Chris.

The next vote is for...

Chris

...uh-oh, we're tied at 3 each for Ethan and Chris

The next vote is for...

Chris

...4 for Chris and 3 for Ethan

The next vote is for...

Chris

... Sorry Chris, 5 is enough, you gotta bring me your torch...

*snuff*
The tribe has spoken.

So...

Congrats to our final 6 survivors: Danni ~ Earl ~ Ethan ~ Rob ~ Todd ~ Yul

For now, you may stay at camp.

I will post the next challenge soon.

LAST EDITED ON 07-14-11 AT 06:32 PM (EST)

Each of the remaining survivors are split into pairs.
These pairings were randomly chosen and will be belted together.

The playing field is VERY similar to Micronesia's "race track" were one duo was the predator and the other duo the prey.
They will start off on opposite ends of the track and will race around with the predator trying to catch the prey. The prey trying to evade the predator.

This challenge will take place in rounds.
Each consecutive round will have 2 pairs facing off, 1 pair as predator, 1 pair as prey.

I will need 6 posters for this challenge.
Your job will be to decide for each round whether the predators catches their prey OR the prey evades the predator.

Each time a predator catches their prey. They will earn 2 points for their duo.
Each time the prey evades their predator, they will earn 2 points for their duo.

The duo will the most amount of points at the end of the 6 rounds will be immune, the rest of them will go to Tribal Council. Where yet again, someone will have their torch snuffed.

Poster #1: Danni/Todd as Predators VS Earl/Yul as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Poster #2: Ethan/Rob as Predators VS Danni/Todd as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Poster #3: Earl/Yul as Predators VS Ethan/Rob as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Poster #4: Earl/Yul as Predators VS Danni/Todd as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Poster #5: Ethan/Rob as Predators VS Earl/Yul as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Poster #6: Danni/Todd as Predators VS Ethan/Rob as Prey. Catch or Evade?

Current Totals
Danni/Todd: 6
Earl/Yul: 0
Ethan/Rob: 4

Danni and Todd managed to squeek out a win in the latest challenge, (thanks for the restraint, D'Abs), winning immunity for themselves and sending the four remaining guys to tribal council.

Please step into the Private Voting Booth and let your vote be known for either Earl, Ethan, Rob or Yul.

JP: Okay, once the votes have been read the verdict is final and the bootee will come forward, have their torch snuffed and will then join the jury.

Rob: Uh...Jeff? I have something to say first.

JP: Allright, Rob. What is it?

Rob: Well, it just so happens that I have this little idol thing I found. My belief is that it is a hidden immunity and I think I may actually need it this tribal. So I'm gonna use it. If I may?

JP: You may, as it is indeed an EPMB sanctioned hidden immunity. Therefore, all votes for Rob will NOT count.

1st vote is for...

Rob

...doesn't count.

next vote is for...

Earl

... 1 vote Earl.

The next vote is for...

Earl

... 2 votes Earl.

The next vote is for...

Ethan

... 2 votes Earl, 1 vote Ethan.

The next vote is for...

Yul

... 2 votes for Earl, 1 vote for each Ethan and Yul.

The next vote is for...

Rob

... doesn't count.

The next vote is for...

Rob

... again doesn't count. We're still at Earl 2 votes and Ethan and Yul with 1 vote each.

The next vote is for...

Yul

... 2 votes for each of Yul and Earl, Ethan with 1 vote, 1 vote remains.

The last vote is for...

Ethan

... *sigh* we have a three-way tie.

Time to vote again!

Sorry about this but please step BACK INTO the Private Voting Booth
This time you may only vote for either Earl, Ethan or Yul.

By the way, if another tie happens I may end up getting rid of all tied participants.

"Final 5 Challenge"
Posted by tribephyl on 07-23-11 at 05:25 PM
LAST EDITED ON 07-25-11 AT 03:11 AM (EST)

This is the LAST immunity challenge and will act as the decider of many things.
As a result of this challenge; 1 will win final immunity while 4 will go to tribal council.
At the 11th tribal council, 2 of those survivors will have their torches snuffed.
Bringing us to our Final 3 (AND the final PTTE perk.)

To start this challenge, each of the survivors have been given 4 empty crates.
Danni and Yul, with their last chance to utilize their PowerPlayer Tikis, have been given 1 additional empty crate.

Since I have 9 regular players I will be needing each of YOU to participate.
Each of you has before you 9 items, listed below. Each of these item are attached to a hidden point value.
Tarp: (?)
Rope: (?)
Shovel: (?)
Cooking Pot: (?)
Canteen: (?)
Machete: (?)
Flint: (?)
Knife: (?)
Hatchet: (?)

All you need to do is choose 3 different items, then choose 2 survivors (with an empty crate) and distribute those items, 2 into one survivor's crate, 1 into the other survivor's crate.
Once a player has chosen a crate, that crate will be full and cannot contain another player's item(s).
Once all of a survivor's crates are full, they cannot accept further items from anyone.
On the other hand, the same item may be placed in subsequent survivor's crates. (Meaning that each of Danni's crates may contain "Flint", for instance.)

CRATES
Danni 1: Tarp & Flint
Danni 2: Hatchet
Danni 3: Knife
Danni 4: Cooking Pot
Danni 5: Cooking Pot

Ethan 1: Canteen
Ethan 2: Canteen
Ethan 3: Shovel
Ethan 4: Canteen

Rob 1: Flint & Machete
Rob 2: Cooking Pot & Shovel
Rob 3: Tarp & Rope
Rob 4: Rope

Todd 1: Canteen
Todd 2: Knife
Todd 3: Rope & Shovel
Todd 4: Machete & Flint

Yul 1: Cooking Pot
Yul 2: Tarp & Flint
Yul 3:
Yul 4:
Yul 5:

This challenge will end when ALL 9 of you have posted your choices. 9 down, results below...

Ethan #2: Knife.

Posted by tribephyl on 07-25-11 at 03:53 AM
All players have donated their items into the survivors crates and here is what we came up with...

Danni
2 Cooking Pot
1 Flint
1 Hatchet
1 Knife
1 Tarp

Ethan
3 Canteen
1 Shovel

Rob
1 Cooking Pot
1 Flint
1 Machete
2 Rope
1 Shovel
1 Tarp

Todd
1 Canteen
1 Flint
1 Knife
1 Machete
1 Rope
1 Shovel

Yul
1 Cooking Pot
1 Flint
1 Tarp

The Items point value was simply the order they were presented, from 1 point for tarp to 9 points hatchet.
Tarp: (1)
Rope: (2)
Shovel: (3)
Cooking Pot: (4)
Canteen: (5)
Machete: (6)
Flint: (7)
Knife: (8)
Hatchet: (9)

Added up together, the survivor with the highest point total will win immunity and will go back to camp, the other four will be going to Tribal Council where TWO of them will be joining the jury...

Danni: 33
Ethan: 18
Rob: 25
Todd: 34
Yul: 12

Congratulations, Todd! You're Immune! Go back to camp (as part of the F3).

But now I will need to see Danni, Ethan, Rob and Yul.
Four will enter tribal council and only two will leave.

It's time for another tribal council (our 11th) and this time I'll need for each of YOU to give me 2 votes.
BUT!!!
These votes are only for the 2 survivors you want to put into the final 3 with Todd.
I repeat. These votes are for good. The ones you like.

The two survivors with the least amount of votes will have their torches snuffed.

As usual, please use the Private Voting Booth.

"11th TC Results/ Final 3 PTTE Perk"
Posted by tribephyl on 07-27-11 at 04:16 PM
Okay!
THAT was interesting!

Tribal Council 11 is finished and 18 votes have been received for 4 of the remaining survivors.
Of Danni, Ethan, Rob and Yul, who stays and who joins the jury?

With 8 of those votes...
Danni, You are safe and can head back to camp!

With only 2 of those votes, I'm sorry...
Yul, You are now to bring me your torch.

*snuff*
The tribe has spoken. Yul will now join the jury.

With only 8 votes remaining and 2 survivors, it can be stated that one of them received 5 votes while the other received only 3.

With 3 votes, I'm sorry...
Ethan you are the next survivor to have their torch snuffed!

*snuff*
The tribe has spoken.

This means (with 5 votes), Rob is safe and can join Danni and Todd in the Final 3.

NOW.
It's official.
Our 'Survivor 2nd Chance 4 A 2nd Win' Final 3 is...
Danni, Rob and Todd.

But this is NOT where I ask for everyone to start laying down the votes for winner.
Oh No.
We have one more twist before this all can come to and end.
The PTTEs.

The Top 5 scorers have shaped up like so...
Boots 1 - 8
CTgirl: 1st
michel & EPMB: 2nd
Corvis: 4th
Belle: 5th

CT won the opportunity to Boot 1 player (Natalie) and hand a truly hidden immunity to another (Rob).

Then we have the...
Jurors 1 - 9
EPMB: 1st
Belle: 2nd
Corvis: 3rd
DearAbby: 4th
michel & CTgirl: 5th

Which means that, EPMB has won the opportunity to influence the next outcome.
And the PTTE perk for this winner is to whittle the F3 down to an F2.

Alas, EPMB is busy in post-production on his current "soon-to-be-web-cast-only" extravaganza... Expedition Impossible.
In an email I wrote to him he responded with this message...

... How wonderful. I couldn't be happier with myself. However, JP, I am currently too busy in the editing room at EI to help you out with this perk. Might I suggest giving the perk to the player who came in right behind me. The 2nd best? The JP Prize, so to speak. Anyways, sorry I can't help out. Good luck. ...

So, I guess that means that...
Congrats, BelleBook!
You alone have won the opportunity to influence the outcome of the Final 3.
Belle Book's perk is simply this...

Of Danni, Rob or Todd.
Pick 1 survivor to become the 10th juror, making the other two the official Final 2.

Once Belle has posted her decision, I will begin the Final Vote Tribal Council.

Well, the twists are done, the challenges finished, the math all figured out.
Now has come the time to go ahead and call one of these folks the WINNER of Survivor 2nd Chances.

I would love to hear a couple of juror questions to our Final 2 of Danni and Todd . (personally, this would be my dream F2 so thank you all for making my dreams come true. It's so unoften a result is so favored by the host. And to think I really didn't do anything to achieve it. Anyways...)

Whatchu got up your sleeve, michel?
I know Belle has some lingering questions.
Corvis shouldn't keep quiet during this either.

This is your Final TC folks.
Go ahead and Grill 'em. Expose 'em. Praise 'em.

Then, when you're ready.
Go ahead and make a final Jury Vote Entry.
You will have to make votes for each one of the jurors.
Jurors
Natalie: (Votes for ____)
Parvati: (Votes for ____)
Tina: (Votes for _____)
Tom: (Votes for _____)
JT: (Votes for _____)
Chris: (Votes for ____)
Earl: (Votes for ____)
Yul: (Votes for _____)
Ethan: (Votes for ____)
Rob: (Votes for ____)

AND

Please make sure to make all votes via the patented Private Voting Booth.

The case for Todd:
Trying to win the battle in China, Todd followed the teachings of Sun Tzu in the “Art of War”. Everyone wanted to be in an alliance with Todd so he used them all to get to the end but was able to keep the friendships separated from the game. Todd should win because no one ever made a better case in front of the jury. If you don’t remember, here is Todd’s answer to Jean Robert’s jury question:

http://funny115.com/v2/25.htm

The Case for Danni:
Danni should win because, despite being the last slave remaining from the minority Yaxha tribe, she managed to topple the axis of evil. Despite StepheMe and Judd acting like Mayan rulers, sitting like Queen and King atop the ruins, Danni was wise to see that Rafe was the one running the show. She listened to Rafe, stroking his ego by telling him that his plan to destroy Steph’s game was pure genius. Rafe liked that so much that he kept her around. That enabled her to win final immunity and the title of Sole Survivor. Her biggest move was to get StepheMe to turn on the Jersey doorman. It led to one of the damn funniest exits ever:

http://funny115.com/v1/37.htm

Which one will you choose?!

No questions for the finalists but a few comments for the host. Tribe, your creativity always astounds me. The twists and turns that this game took were a lot of fun. I wish you were hosting the real Survivor and not Jeff Probst!

Here is what I said when I PMed Tribe: I agree Tribe, this is a great final 2. I wanted Rob to get to the end but because of his celebrity status and 4 times playing the game, he is in a category by himself and I didn't want him to win overall. Thank you for the twist and for Belle winning the Juror PTTE!

To the rest of you armchair (or computer chair) Survivors thanks for staying with this throughout the TV lame seasonal drought it made things so much more interesting. Shout out to Belle for the final kiss of death, well played dearie. >snort<

Finally to our Fearless Nefarious Master of the Game, Sir Tribe, bravo, you wascally wabbit. Hugs and smooches.

Michel, good thing we were on the same page yes? LOL

First off, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who participated week after week, challenge after challenge, tribal council after tribal council.

The "alliances", the twists, the PTTE perks, I think they all kinda worked. And truly this is my favorite outcome of a 2nd chances tournament ever. Yes, this is only the second one, but hype is hype. And the most recent hype is the most important.
Of course it didn't hurt to have such a variety of worthy candidates to choose from.

Anyways, Onto the reveal...

Natalie's vote is for...

Todd

...

Parvati's vote is for...

Todd

... That's 2 votes for Todd

Tom's vote is for...

Todd

...Todd now has 3 votes

Tina's vote is for...

Danni

...3 votes for Todd and 1 vote for Danni

Chris' vote is for...

Danni

...3 Votes for Todd, 2 votes for Danni

Earl's vote is for...

Danni

...Now, we're tied at 3 votes for both Todd and Danni

Ethan's vote is for...

Danni

...4 votes Danni, 3 votes Todd

JT's vote is for...

Todd

... Again, Tied, now 4 votes for both Todd and Danni. Ooo this is tense.

Yul's vote is for...

Todd

...5 votes Todd, 4 votes Danni

The last vote, Rob's vote, is for... *crosses fingers* no tie - no tie - no tie...

The Survivor 2nd Chances 4 A 2nd Win Winner.... Todd!!!

Todd now sits with Sandra (in my make-believe pantheon) of 2-time Survivor Winners.
Hmmm...Now there's a rivalry I'd like to see.

Thanks for running this, Tribe. Thank to everyone that participated; you made this fun.

Congratulations to those that worked to get Todd to the end. We made it a Finale of 1 time players. It wasn't easy to manage!

Corvis, I voted for Danni! She wasn't as flamboyant as China's mastermind but, like him, she understood this game was about creating bonds and breaking them at the right time. I thought we deserved a close vote. Came >that< close!

Danni lost because Rob was a bitter juror!

Tribe, you know the next step would be to start a winners' ranking in fanatics!!! We could argue the merits of everyone we voted out. Why didn't Brian and Tom even come close to winning?

I think Tom, like JT, were viewed with more flaws since they had played the game twice. Brian has killed too many dogs to ever come close to winning a fantasy game!

Thanks again Tribe for running the game!

I agree with you about J.T. and Brian -- Brian was just too unpopular to ever come close to winning a fantasy game, and J.T. had more flaws. I didn't hate Tom, I just liked others more than him -- especially Yul.

Maybe you should start that winners' ranking thread!

I know Brian is psycho but he did play a perfect game...And, like I told you about Tom; James and Rupert were the dumbasses in that tribe.

Oh michel! Over Todd!?

Obviously, I am thrilled with the outcome.

Though I went with your plan, michel, it was really all about getting Todd to the end for me. And your idea of getting the lame people to the end would just make it easier for Todd to win in the end. If only I could have gotten Earl to the end against Todd. Of course, I did underestimate Danni's support.

Still, all's well that end's well.

Thanks tribe for the fun game.

Lame People?? My plan was to get the forgotten winners to the end, the ones that Probst and SEG don't consider for reruns but that doesn't make them lame. I would have been happy with any of them winning.

I do consider Chris, Danni, Earl and Todd as top-tier winners. Even Natalie isn't lame because she spared us the horor of "Russell Hantz: Sole Survivor".

As usual, your memory is better than mine when it comes to all-things Survivor! I just couldn't resist because you do like the pretty ladies!

Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Okay. We have a chance to go ahead and discuss some of the thoughts behind some of the participating survivors in this 2nd season of 2nd chances.
Where we welcomed 20 past survivor winners to bear the scrutiny and mutiny of their fans.
The following is meant to spur a little conversation regarding the outcome (and the antics leading up to it) of the 2nd Chances Tournament.
I begin with some interesting PTTE statistics...

Correct placements by Survivor:
6 correct placements
Vecepia

4 correct placements
Aras ~ Brian

2 correct placements
Bob ~ Danni ~ Jud ~ Jenna ~ Rob

1 correct placement
Amber ~ Chris~ JT ~ Richard ~ Todd ~ Tom

0 correct placements
Earl ~ Ethan ~ Natalie ~ Parvati ~ Tina ~ Yul

Correct Placements by Player:

EPMB

4 correct placements
Corvis ~ CTgirl ~ suzzee ~ taffnic

3 correct placements
D'Abby ~ michel

2 correct placements
Belle

1 correct placement
vince

0 correct placements

PTTE Game OVERALL Totals:
EPMB ~ 31
CTgirl ~ 40
belle ~ 42
michel ~ 42
Corvis ~ 44
D'Abby ~ 56
suzzee ~ 64
vince ~ 75
taffnic ~ 78
Spot ~ 80

* First off, A teal-colored Shout-Out to Spot! Your PTTE performance is now favorably legendary to a loser-lover like me. I strive to achieve what you accomplished. Excellent job!
* A hearty congrats to EPMB. While he didn't exactly dictate the outcome, he was seemingly hyper-aware of the eventual outcome.
* Speaking of hyper-aware of the eventual outcome. suzzee was the only player to place Todd in the winner's spot.
* As noted in the threads, the PTTEs quickly went to the wayside in favor of strategies I wasn't quite sure of. So...

Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

As a host, pre-determined questions/answers are preferred over last-minute reveals.
The thought behind the whole advent of the PTTE perk was to drive excitement by adding the ability to make a solo move, changing the outcome, through that same pre-determined question/answer.
With other games (say Anti-boot or LoserLodge) that can be acheived without it affecting the WHOLE game.
While secretly I was wishing for EPMB to topple everyone else. When it actually happened it saddened me a bit.
However, and as stated in the thread elsewhere. I LOVED the Overall Outcome.
Todd winning was great. Todd and Danni in F2 was great. Tom and Tina getting thrown into a volcano was great.

Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

Some interesting tid-bits, statistically speaking...
* Todd received exactly ZERO votes against at each of the 4 tribal councils he went to, until the Final Tribal where he won with 6 votes.
* Danni also received ZERO votes against but did receive 8 votes for keeping her at F4/F3 and received 4 votes for at Final Tribal Council.
* Vecepia and Jud were both voted out their first times at tribal council.
* Aras, Chris and Earl all acheived the most tribal council visits with 5 each.
* Aras was the ONLY unanimous tribal council vote.
* Tina and Tom were the only 2 survivors to lose the game without being voted out at tribal council.
* Natalie and Rob were the only two survivors to lose the game by Player's Choice.

Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

I'm a little surprised at Vecepia's exit. I'm also surprised Parvati didn't last a lot longer.
I'm NOT surprised at Brian's quick exit but really thought Aras and Richard would have fared better.
I am eternally bored with Yul and frankly can't stand Tom. So seeing them exit before F3 was joyous. (Especially joyful over the Tom jumping into a volcano image.)

Topic #4: I can't say as this will be the end of Survivor 2nd Chances. So with the Top 5 non-winners (congrats, Stephen) and the 2nd 2nd winner (Congrats Todd) out of the way, what's next?
So, who (or what) would you like to see given another chance at winning survivor?

I have first 5 boots slated for a future season but does that even interest anyone? I would love to hold a cold weather version.
If you could hand pick any theme or survivors, who or what would it be and where would you hold it?
Let's brainstorm a bit.

Why did Yul eternally bore you? Personally, I loved him!

I'd like to see Kelly B. have a second chance. I thought she never got a fair shake. If she's one of the first 5 boots (I forgot if she was or wasn't), then I'd be happy to have the first 5 boots back.

Maybe I can give my opinion on why Yul is regarded by many as being boring: He was probably the smartest man ever to play survivor but he was more or less a game-bot. Every conversation he had was about the game and the only times he gave us a laugh was when he danced with the two local women at their village and when he told Jeff about elephants being unable to climb trees. Not much fun and Cook islands is considered by some as the seasons with the fewest laughs.

thanks for chiming in michel. I can concur with your interpretation.
The Cook Islands, for me, was more interesting outside of the storyline of the beleagured Yul, Ozzy, Sundra and Becky. As an alliance, they were boring. The 4 of them made an underdog comeback somehow uninteresting to watch. And I would owe their longevity more to the in-fighting of the dominant tribe than the 'physical prowess' of Ozzy or the 'strategic mastery' of Yul. Shooting fish in a barrel isn't fun to watch.

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by Belle Book on 07-31-11 at 05:21 PM
Ah, I see. I think I liked Yul in part because he was Asian American (I have a soft spot for them) and because I thought he'd be a potential winner. I don't mind that he wasn't very humorous -- he was focused on the game and I appreciated that.

Anyway, some of the other thoughts:

*Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?*

The PTTE's didn't figure into my strategy except towards the end. However, the PTTE perk did heighten the experience because it allowed me to take a little revenge on those who voted to keep Boston Rob around and got rid of Yul instead.

Intriguingly, my original plan was to keep Boston Rob till the Final 3. But then Michel realized how much of a threat he was to beat Danni & Yul so he convinced me to target Boston Rob first. Alas, it didn't entirely work but I did get my revenge in the end! In retrospect, I should've tried to work with Michel to get an alliance of people who wanted Boston Rob out earlier.

*Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?*

Not quite. As I've said before -- a thousand times, in fact -- I'd rather have had Yul in the Final 2 (actually, Final 3). I'd probably have had Danni & Yul as my Final 2 with Yul winning the whole thing.

*Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?*

I think Todd lasted a little longer than I thought he would. But overall, I didn't think too much about which Survivors would do better or which ones lasted way longer.

*Topic #4: I can't say as this will be the end of Survivor 2nd Chances. So with the Top 5 non-winners (congrats, Stephen) and the 2nd 2nd winner (Congrats Todd) out of the way, what's next?
So, who (or what) would you like to see given another chance at winning survivor?*

As I said, I'd like to have Kelly B. as a returning player. I'd like to see Michelle from Fiji have a second chance as well -- and Cirie. I always thought she was the best person to never win.

I initially tried voting by my PTTE, but since I had Richard placed for the immediate heave-ho and didn't get it for 3 straight TCs... I opted to say hell with that idea and try to keep whoever I could in the alliance that I had somewhat formed with CTgirl and D'Abby.

As far as Todd winning? As I said in my FTC vote: Meh.

First 5 should be interesting, especially since I have at least one person who I thought got insta-shafted because of circumstances a little beyond her control that her tribe wasn't fully aware of, I imagine...

And please put them somewhere cold, they won't ever do it in real life, so we need someone to suffer...

I love it! Zero correct placements? How superbly pathetic!

How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

I was at first playing to win the PTTE, but when Brian was voted out second, I knew that I didn't have a chance to win (or even place within the top half of the scoreboard). I then decided to play against my PTTE, but keep my top three (Rob, Todd, and Yul) for as long as possible. I was happy with any of them winning.

Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

My ultimate F2 would have been Tom and JT, but I knew that they both would be threats by mid-game, so I kept them both as early post-merge boots in my PTTE. I'm very happy with the outcome; Todd is my third most favorite winner.

Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

I'm very surprised that Natalie didn't go early. I was expecting her to be within the first three people voted out. Michel's "Bring the less popular winners to the end" strategy made Earl's placement less shocking as it would have had their alliance not been in place.

I can't say as this will be the end of Survivor 2nd Chances.

I would personally love to see a Physical vs. Mental vs. Social season given the game's emphasis to these three traits. The location of the season doesn't really matter to me--I'll participate regardless of the location and the challenges.

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by tribephyl on 07-31-11 at 03:10 AM
I'm intrigued. Physical vs. Mental vs. Social as an emphasis is definitely a key point.
Are you thinking of say choosing survivors based on those traits? Or moreso having the challenges themselves be more "physical v mental v social"?

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by SpotTheDiffference on 07-31-11 at 06:05 AM
Yes to both, I think, although I wonder how this will apply to challenges. I know people will vote to keep their favorites safe, regardless of whether they would perform well in the given challenge in real life. People who like Courtney for instance will probably try to keep her safe even when the challenge is something that would favor James.

I'd personally like to see who people think are the best players of Survivor given those three criteria, pit them against each other, and see who would come out on top. Will people vote for their favorite player, or will they base their vote on which of the three they think are the most important trait in a Survivor (or which is the hottest player left in the game)?

Looking back, I think my favorite finales in the game were the ones with the finalists being the best of each trait:

Richard (Mental) vs. Kelly (Physical)
Tina (Social) vs. Colby (Physical)
Rob (Physical/Mental) vs. Amber (Social)
Yul (Mental) vs. Ozzy (Physical)
Amanda (Physical) vs. Parvati (Social) vs. Cirie (Mental)
JT (Physical) vs. Stephen (Mental)

We can even call it Survivor: PMS

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by michel on 07-31-11 at 11:15 AM
The only problem is that you cannot separate social from strategy because being social is a strategy in itself and, on top of that, you need to be social to scheme.

Amber being "social" is simply saying she was more likeable than Rob.
I would certainly say Tina was strategic even if her strategy was to put together a small group of "good people" which is socializing.
Cirie is considered a mastermind because she underestands people better than anyone else and that is a social skill. She couldn't kill you if you didn't find her so charming.

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by SpotTheDiffference on 07-31-11 at 02:09 PM
I dunno, I guess I just view "mental" as a more active strategy (organizing boots, making decisions) and "social" as a more passive form of strategy (making friends but not necessarily making the decisions). They're certainly a deadly combination when applied together (Cirie, Parvati), but we've also had instances when the "thinkers" aren't necessarily social players (Kenny, Russell, Tracy to an extent) and vice-versa (Fabio, Natalie, Taj).

Whether active or passive, a strategy is a strategy. Game theory tells us that being a follower is just as valid as being a leader under the right circumstances. More people have been voted out for being too active than the opposite.

Note that none of the non-social "thinkers" that you listed won while a couple of your viciversaed did win. Which strategy is better?

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by SpotTheDiffference on 07-31-11 at 02:32 PM
Huh? Why do we even need to discuss this? I never said anything about one strategy being better than the other. You said that they're nearly inseparable from each other, and I agree. All I'm saying is that there have been instances where one may be completely independent from the other.

"RE: Survivor 2nd Chances Rehash"
Posted by michel on 07-31-11 at 04:46 PM
And all I'm saying is that when mental and social games don't go hand in hand, when they are independant of each other, you get a failure. I couldn't support a schemer with a bad social game or a social player with no strategy. Social players without strategy include Gabe, Cindy and Flica so if those are the players in the next game, I'll pass.

Just some random thoughts here.

A good contestant should be able to empathize and have a feel for other people, not just fake interest. I think people generally know if someone is shining them on or really mean it.

One should really be able to listen to someone else, getting them to talk about themselves outside of the "game" (things that never make tv) would be extremely helpful in gauging what someone would do depending on ever changing circumstances.

When you listen to what others tell you and what you see you have the advantage of possibly linking two seemingly unrelated things or comments together to form the bigger picture. Sometimes it only takes that little bit to figure out which way to nudge someone or to make a course correction in your own plans to use it to your advantage.

Make sense? Although it helps to have a bit of luck and some athletic ability too.

Most important, to me, would be to have an iron will, tenacity, being able to observe objectively and I think the willingness to be flexible. I'm sure after the starvation and exhaustion sets it the brain is fuzzy but so is everyone else.

I think were I to ever be insane enough to try for the show, that would be what I would try to do.

You've hit the nail on the head.

That's why I say so many survivors eliminate themselves: Casting likes people that are talkative, the game works for people that are listeners!

I could add that's why Earl and Danni were successful at the game: They sat back and listened before finalizing their plans.

...And also why JT won with Stephen and looked dumb without him. Being with Stephen, it forced him to listen to someone else's input instead of forging ahead with his own half-baked ideas.

LAST EDITED ON 07-31-11 AT 01:46 PM (EST)

"Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?"

My PTTE didn't figure much in my strategy. I made my PTTE first, thinking of which players others liked or not. Only after that did I start thinking of which players I wanted to make it to the end. I used the PTTE list you posted to see how I could influence others. I sacrificed a few positions but got the important ones to the merge...where a volcano changed things. After that, I stopped thinking about the PTTE altogether.

"Tom and Tina getting thrown into a volcano was great.'

I hate production interference.
(Especially when it eliminated two of the best winners.)

"Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?"

My ideal F6 would have been Chris, Danni, Todd, Yul, Earl and Natalie. I wasn't even sneaky about it because I told everyone here:
http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID102/1295.shtml#57

China and Guatemala are two of my favorite stories so I was pulling for Todd and Danni all along but Earl and Chris were right there with them as far as favorites go.

I knew I had no shot of convincing people to keep Chris but he did make it farther than most imagined and he exposed the counter-alliance!

See, CTGirl and Abby were in on my plan from the start. However, they liked Rob a lot more than I did and, for some reason (I can't imagine why ), they didn't like Chris. I knew Rob had quite a following but I wasn't sure if they had formed an actual alliance to keep him in.

" Natalie and Rob were the only two survivors to lose the game by Player's Choice."

Those powers that you gave really made it harder for me. Thankfully, Belle Book and I were on the same page for that last vote.

"Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?"

I thought only Sucks hated Tom so I was surprised to see that many here dislike him also.

Rob lasted way longer than I wanted. In fact, the post-merge can be summed up by the battle for Rob. Had I been given those powers, he'd have left right there and then. Even if he is one of the more entertaining characters ever, 4 times is more than enough for me. And no, his win in Redemption Island wasn't impressive.

Parvati was an interesting case: I was one of the very few that defended her here at Blows while she played Cook Islands. I liked the way that she could flirt with the guys and still be friends and trusted by every woman in the tribe (except Cristina). Then, winning Micronesia turned her into a fan favorite but I saw how extremely lucky she had been to even have a chance of winning. 3 times was enough of her but it still was a fight to eliminate her.

Topic #4: Why limit yourself to Survivor players? The most fun I had playing on-line Survivor was in a Harry Potter version of the game (and I knew nothing of the books before becoming Snape).
The game could have the same rules as any Survivor game but using characters from those books and challenges based on the stories. Of course, you'd have split us into 2 groups before the challenges; one side defending Harry and his friends and the other trying to send them to TC. Guess which side I'd choose!

* I hate production interference.
(Especially when it eliminated two of the best winners.)

I hope this wasn't directed at me, because while their ultimate fate of jumping into a volcano was the story, their placement in the challenge was decided by ya'll.

But that brings up the story I wrote about during this challenge wherein, if the results had been reversed it would have been Danni and Todd being sacrificed. The eventual F2.

So the question becomes, which F2 is preferable?
Tina Vs. Tom or Danni Vs. Todd?

* Why limit yourself to Survivor players?

Well, it's basic core, it's called Survivor 2nd Chances. Survivor could mean multiple things but in the Survivor Games Forum, it should kinda stay on topic(ish).
Second, I really know nothing of HP.

And as to another question...
I have participated in on-line games based on Survivor, and hosted on-line games based on Survivor, Shipwrecked, Castaway and other surviving the elements and each other styled games.
The prevailing thought after these experiences is that the level of animosity is raised and feelings end up getting involved to the Nth degree.
At Blows, I do NOT want to harbor those types of feelings.
Elsewhere is tolerable but I still retain a couple of horror stories. (Came in 2nd place, as JP Calderon, because of a bitter juror and her four previous-to-the-game friends. AND Months of after-conversations regarding someone's continued hatred of another participant.)
I STILL mull over ideas about other games to play HERE or in OT where cooperation and participation are encouraged but retains a sense of individual achievement as well.
Plus, there's the whole 'time' thing. I feel like I barely have enough as it is.

"RE: Coming Clean!"
Posted by michel on 07-31-11 at 06:04 PM
The production interference comment was done tongue-in-cheek. I separate the game from personal stuff so, even if the elimination was out of our hands and it killed my PTTE, it didn't upset me at all.

"So the question becomes, which F2 is preferable?
Tina Vs. Tom or Danni Vs. Todd?"

Strangely, Tom and Tina were in my PTTE F3 with Earl but my plan was to get Danni and Todd to the F3 so both were acceptable for me.

As for Potter, it was just an idea. You could do the same with Superheroes. Or have Big Brother contestants given a chance to compete against Amazing Race players. Survivor is the format, the players are interchangeable.

"The prevailing thought after these experiences is that the level of animosity is raised and feelings end up getting involved to the Nth degree.
At Blows, I do NOT want to harbor those types of feelings.
"

You have a point. I played in a game once were Loser Lodge was hell. On the other hand, I played in a couple where I still exchange with people years later.

Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

The PTTE quite definitely figured into my strategy - especially in the beginning. I did my PTTE the way I thought our community would vote, not by my favorites. Of course as the game got going and alliances got formed and reformed, the PTTE didn't figure as much into my thinking, but it was always in the back of my mind. As winner of the pre-merge PTTE, I got to vote out someone. Natalie was my choice purely because of my PTTE. I really enjoyed the dimension that having a personal PTTE added to the game.

Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

I was very happy with the outcome, however my ultimate F2 before we played probably would have been Rob and Parvati (sorry Michel!!) because they have the charisma (and the luck) to play the game over-and-over successfully. I chose Danni and Yul in my PTTE F3 because Danni and Yul had won the advantage and I figured they were popular players overall. Then Michel suggested that one-time players should make it to the end and I was on board with that - to an extent. As the game went on I realized that in retrospect, Todd's game holds up really well and I decided that that was who I wanted to win. I had to keep Danni in there as she was the lone female standing for many tribal councils!!

Strategy wise - I was initially in the alliance with michel and Abby among others to get some one time winners to the end. Then michel started gunning for Parvati (she was 4th on my PTTE!) and Abby and I formed a side alliance with Vince and Spot. We were still in the minority though so I pulled a Rob Cesternino for a few votes, voting with the majority where I could while waiting until we had enough votes to get Chris. When Michel targeted Rob, Abby and I were able to round up a few of Michel's alliance who didn't want to vote out Rob to help us vote out Earl. I think I spoke via PM with all 8 players at some point during the game. For the record, since we will be playing again - I will never lie to you (there may be omissions of information but I won't lie!) I'm just wicked competitive, lol.

Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

I thought Natalie would be an early boot. Yes she beat Rushell but with such a bitter jury I think anyone could have beaten him. Earl lasted way longer than I expected too. I thought Parvati and Tom would do better.

Topic #4: I can't say as this will be the end of Survivor 2nd Chances. So with the Top 5 non-winners (congrats, Stephen) and the 2nd 2nd winner (Congrats Todd) out of the way, what's next?

First five could be interesting - so many of them I don't remember though. But then we'd have choices like Aaron (China). Maybe you could tweak it to include victims of producer interference like when Michelle in Fiji got booted. A winter version would be fun especially since it will never happen in real life.

I am a little confused on how you figured out EPMB's PTTE, could you 'splain it to me?

I'm glad you like hosting these games Tribe. I know it's a lot of work. Thank you!!

"Abby and I formed a side alliance with Vince and Spot."

Well done but I still got Parvati.

I knew hanging on to Chris wouldn't work but Vanuatu is such a better season than Re-dump-tion Island that I had to try to save him.

About Natalie and Parvati: That's why I didn't like the PTTE at all. It broke a perfectly good alliance!!

The twisted out of the game players would lead to the following cast: Silas, Sarah, Shi Ann, Shawn, Bubba, Margaret, Brooke, Jenny, Liliana, Michelle, Aaron, Joel, Jacquie, Ace, Marcus and Jill. Even if there are a few likable ones in there, the editing made sure we didn't like or know most of them so we'd accept their "unjust" elimination. Not a stellar cast in my opinion.

In my opinion, the interesting characters in the first 5 boots could include:
S2 Kimmy, S3 Peter, S3 Hunter, S5 Tanya, S5 Jed, S7 Burton, S9 Dolly, S9 John P, S9 Mia, S9 Brady, S10 Jolanda, S10 Jeff, S11 Brooke, S12 Misty, S12 Bobby, S13 JP, S14 Lilianna, S15 Chicken, S15 Ashley, S15 Dave, S16 Mikey, S16 Joel, S17 Jacquie, S18 Candace, S18 Spencer, S19 Marisa, S19 Betsy, S21 Jimmy T, S21 Tyrone, S22 Francesquoi, S22 Kristina, S22 Krista.

Not a bad bunch...

Those names (plus more) are my thoughts too.
While there are names that I have a very hard time placing, at all, there are some I thought really stood a chance, had they not been in the "wrong place at the wrong time" typed moment early in the season.

The pre-merge boots are always overlooked as returnees for the show.
Face it, their game failed. (In comparison to others.)
But also note the average returnee's ability to change their placement, even with the same strategy, just because the players are different. Those who did well don't and those who didn't do.

I have some of the early drafts worked out and while the beginning may be daunting for my dear participants, it won't be long before we start reconnecting with some of these folks again. Tout de Suite.
There are some characters, there are some contenders, there are some hotties. I dare say a goat or two or three. Who knows.

I liked Tanya and thought she might've gone far if she hadn't gotten sick. I'd like her to return. I'd also like to see Misty and Jacquie return because I feel they were partially victims of a twist. I'd also like to see Marisa & Betsy return since they were victimized by Troll. And finally, since I have Asperger's Syndrome and Kristina has a son with either autism or AS, I'd like to see her return. Oh, and Hunter too -- he was victimized by Boston Rob.

Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

I put Vecepia and Brian as first boots on my PTTE because I didn't think anyone would vote to keep them around, nor did I think either of them should have won their seasons. When the game started, I voted according to my PTTE for the first boots, but later I voted out the ones whose torches I wanted to see snuffed, because I knew I had no chance of winning.

Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

I didn't mind the F2 we wound up with and am thrilled that Todd won. It would be difficult for me to choose my favorites, as I hate about half of them and love the other half! But—sorry, michel—I wish Rob had been the ultimate winner.

Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

I was really shocked to see Amber leave so soon. I had her pegged as making it to F3. Parvati's boot also came too soon, I thought. With Yul gaining the advantage at the beginning of the game, I was surprised he didn't make F3. Chris lasted longer than I thought he would—or should.*

I'll leave it up to you, tribe!

I have first 5 boots slated for a future season but does that even interest anyone? I would love to hold a cold weather version. If you could hand pick any theme or survivors, who or what would it be and where would you hold it?

I'm not sure I would remember enough about the first 5 boots to know how to vote, but I'd be willing to give it a shot. Send 'em to Siberia!

Something I'd like to see, however, is no alliances and all of us just voting our conscience. However, that's easier said than done ... and wouldn't be nearly as much fun!

~ ~ ~

*I think most of us communicated with michel at one time or another about how we were voting. Since I blamed him for Parvati's departure, I decided to see what I could do to keep Rob around till the end, not just because I like Rob, but also to mess with michel. And when he challenged me to find the votes to keep Rob and boot Chris, well, that's what I did! When tribe gave us what I call the Baa Baa Black Sheep Challenge, CTgirl and I worked together to distribute our three bags full and force the tie. Then I took pleasure in sending Chris to TC, where his torch was eventually snuffed.

Sorry about causing that tie, tribe! I had nothing to do with the 10th TC tie, though. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it. Or perhaps it was just a lucky—or unlucky—coincidence.

"But—sorry, michel—I wish Rob had been the ultimate winner"

If we hadn't seen him in S20 and S22, I could have agreed with you but 4 times? Way too much for me.

Rob did, however, play almost as well in Re-dump-tion Island as Brian had done in Thailand.

You made it tough for me alright but I told you up front that I was gunning for Parvati and Rob.
I missed most of that challenge where Chris was eliminated. Those are the breaks.

Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

Now I'm coming clean. I did the PTTE only on my favorite Todd winning. Just a popularity contest in my head (it is so messy in there). I pretty much didn't try too hard since in kircon's PTTE's I just suck-diddly-uck for the most part. I know I should have been more conscientious but I think there was some distracting IRL situations happening and I didn't have the extra brain cells to spare. So I guess I was pretty flexible as far as who wound up at the end, as long as it was Todd. >snort<

Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

Actually I liked Stephen for awhile, as a person I like him like I do Todd. Respect his thinking and articulating his thoughts. Danni was a good choice though and I think that besides the obvious Todd love I have, had he not been in this group then a Danni/Stephen F2 would have been the cherry on the sundae.

Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

Tom: always thought he was an arrogant lucky putz, volcano exit was superb.

Yul: Me no likey, I guess I always got the impression that he thought he deserved to win by virtue of his presence.

Vecepia: I watched the season but was a casual viewer at that time so I didn't have enough background to care about her.

Parvati: She's pretty good and really thought she would give my Todd a run, she had to go.

Brian, Aras, Richard: same as Parvati, target the competition.

Topic #4: I can't say as this will be the end of Survivor 2nd Chances. So with the Top 5 non-winners (congrats, Stephen) and the 2nd 2nd winner (Congrats Todd) out of the way, what's next?

Oh Tribe, you ring the game bell and I'll come on over for more of your excellent distractions. (LosersLodgeLosersLodgeLosersLodge)

Cirie, of course, Gravedigger James, I guess anyone else that was a character, I'm easy like that.

Infamous on Survivor too!

I've been on vacation all week so I am just catching up with this. It's really fun to read everyone's thoughts about the game. Aside for michel, who consistently PMed me at every vote, and CTGirl who tried to get me to save Parvati (as if!), I wasn't as involved in all of the machinations. I'll just mention that if we do this again... people should feel free to PM me.

Topic #1: How did the PTTEs figure into your strategy? Did the PTTE perk ruin your experience or heighten it?

They didn't figure into my strategy. I did the PTTE order on the popularity of the Survivors (although I was totally off on Tom's popularity). But during the game, I tried to get the people I really like to the end. Chris and Todd were my two favorites. And I would have loved to get Brian far (I still think he played one of the best games ever), but I know no one likes him so I knew he was a lost cause. So the PTTE thing didn't ruin or heighten my experience. It was fun to do though.

Topic #2: Who would have been YOUR ultimate F2? Were you as happy with this outcome as I was?

Chris and Todd. I was very happy with the outcome. If Danni had won, I'd have been very disappointed as I still think she's a second rate winner.

Topic #3: Which survivors did you really think would do better than they did? Which survivor lasted way longer than you thought they would?

I was surprised Earl lasted as long as he did. But I think that was because of michel's strategy of getting the lame... ahem... forgotten... winners to the end.

I'm not excited about the first five boot idea because so many of them are completely forgettable. But of course, I'd play. Maybe you could ask the players to choose a couple of Survivors from that list? Then we'd have more of a stake in it.

I wouldn't be interested in a non-Survivor version.

I like the idea of choosing people who were screwed by twists, starting with Silas in S3. And then we'd get Wanda and Jonathan who I have always felt were the most screwed players in Survivor history.

Thanks again, tribe, for doing this. It's a lot of fun.

It was nice working with you! We saw things pretty much the same way but, if you allow, two comments:

- I'd rate Danni above Chris because she depended less on immunity wins.
- Saying that Wanda and Jonathan were screwed is one way to look at it but I consider all those alternates that go to the island but don't make the show. At least, the Palau pair had a shot.

Yeah, but Wanda and Jonathan weren't alternates - they thought they had a decent shot at the game! At least alternates know their chance of making the show is slim. To set up two people to think they have the same chance as every other Survivor who came before them and then create a situation where they were gone before the first vote... well, that just sucks. IMO.

I see your point of view but answer me this: Would you rather have been in Jonathan's position or one of the alternates' that never made the show? It would kill me to go through that prolonged, expensive process, go to the island and then come back without even having had a chance.

Or think of it this way: Jonathan and Wanda still had more airtime than Purple Kelly!
(Now, talking about getting screwed; PK really got the shaft from the editors.)
