"*SPOILER* 3/21 song list"

Posted by true on 03-22-05 at 10:05 AM
Don't open, if you don't want to know about the show tonight.

Since this is the last week of taped performances, this will be the last of the spoilers to include judges comments. I found this listed on another AI board, and since I wasn't at the taping, I can't say if it's completely accurate.

Ok, that should be enough filler. But just in case it's not, I'll use this space to *wave to Bubba*

Carrie Underwood: "Alone" by Heart (1987)
(Note: Simon said she is gonna win and sell more records than all the other idols combined.)

Anwar Robinson - "I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan (1984) tentative
(Note: All three judges thought Anwar was ok; Randy complemented him for him ambition in doing Chaka; he was pitchy but saved it at the end with that "one note" as Paula and Randy would say)

Constantine Maroulis - "I Think I Love You" by the Partridge Family (1970)
(note: Surprisingly good; Simon thought it was like watching a poodle with a leather jacket)

Nadia Turner - "Time after Time" by Cyndi Lauper (1984)
(Note: Judges thought this was Nadia's weakest performance yet)

Mikalah Gordon - "Love Will Lead You Back" by Taylor Dayne (1990)
(Note: Judges and audience didn't like this performance)

Jessica Sierra - "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler (1983)
(Note: Judges like Jessica and said she could give Carrie a run for her money)

Nikko Smith - "Incomplete" by Sisqo (2000)
(Note: Judges and crowd loved him)

Anthony Federov - "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" by George Michael/Aretha Franklin (1987)
(Note: Simon said that Anthony was trying for sexy and it just didn't wok)

Bo Bice - "Time In a Bottle" by Jiim Croce (1973)
(Note: Hair back to normal. All three were kind; Simon said he's the only one who doesn't feel like a contestant)

Vonzell Solomon - "Best of My Love" by The Emotions (1977)
(Note: Simon said that Vonzell will finally be remembered)

Scott Savol - "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins (1984)

Wow, i'm impressed, some intersting song choices this week.

First off, i simply cannot wait to see Constantine do The Partridge Family. This is destined to be an AI classic.

Secondly, isn't it a bit bold for Simon to one see say its Bo's contest to lose, then two weeks later (after a weak performance by Carrie) to say that she will be the winner just the 2nd week into the final 12? Silly Simon, but i look forward to her performance too, although i do not see her winning.

I've never heard "Incomplete" nor Sisqo for that matter...

Bo doing "Time In A Bottle" also something to look forward too

I'm disappointed with Scott Savol's selection to say the least.

Anthony finally not doing a ballad, that's good.

Should be a fun night.

Thanks for sharing. If Carrie pulls off "Alone", I will be amazed. She'll probably make it boring by turning it into a country song. It sounds mostly like an interesting choice of songs. I love "Incomplete" I hope Nikko doesn't butcher it.

Oooh, I can't wait to hear "Alone" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart". (Can you tell I'm an 80's chick? LOL)

I have a feeling I'll need some wine to go with the cheese provided by Constantine. (Maybe the Penfold's Cabernet-Shiraz...)

Even though he's 29, Constantine probably could have won the part of Keith for the "new" Partridge Family remake on VH1.

"Making an odd comparison here..."

OK, deep breath, but i'm now going to compare Bo to Clay. Please understand I am a big Clay fan, and a big Bo fan.

If you recall, over the course of AI2, Clay switched between upbeat songs and ballads each week throughout the competition.

Bo is doing the same thing.

Intriguing to say the least.

Was incomplete a #1 song?

Taken from the site I linked above.

"Incomplete" by Sisqo. #1 the week of August 12 and 19, 2000

There is a complete list, for those who think AI doesn't know what it's doing.

Funny how Nikko is the only one to choose a song from this millennium. Maybe OLD people really do make up the majority of the audience. I don't understand any other reason for picking so many songs from the 70's and 80's.

The next closest, time wise is Mikalah with a song from 1990.

Maybe the choices given to the contestants are really limited, but geeze, they might as well call it oldies night.

I think there is a big danger in singing something recent. If they flop, then the comparison is going to make it even more apparent that they sucked. If I heard it on the radio a minute ago and then the AI singer butchered it....eek. Also, the audience is younger, so they choose things that may not be as familiar to them so they won't notice if the aritist takes liberties. **I** might notice if Constatine makes some weird style choices, but my babysitter isn't going to give a rat's patootey.

--let's just be glad no one is singing that Titanic song, mmmmkay?

Or any Celine, please!

I guess you have a point there kimmie, but reaching all the way back to the 70's for a Billboard #1? Sure, maybe not something from the past year or two even, but I think more young people, who buy CD's would get into this show if they sang stuff a tad more up to date.

I know I enjoy the performances more when I recognize the songs, but I doubt I'm the demographic that they're choosing the winner for.

According to this link, yes and no...

http://www.rockonthenet.com/artists-s/sisqo.htm

He was on the pop charts but not #1--but the R & B charts he was #1 for a few weeks.

I'm sure all the selections were offered by, and approved by the AI producers. I'm sure that won't stop some fans from crying "cheater!". Does anybody really think the producers don't give the contestants lists of approved selections? Don't they have to have "rights" to perform the songs on TV?

Yes, the show needs permission for their contestants to do most songs. I recall Aloha saying it was tough fo rher the week she was booted because her first couple of song choices were nixed.

However, I'm curious if they contestants submit a list of song choices in order of preference and the producers pick the first allowable one, or if they are given a list to pick from. I would guess the former, at least in the round of 24, based on what Aloha said.

Just a quick note about Constantine's song choice . . .

My initial reaction was "What the hell is he thinking?!?" However, after sitting back a few moments I realized that there was an updated rock/heavy metal version of the song, performed by Less Than Jake (featured on the Scream 2 soundtrack). I have to believe that what Constantine is doing tonight will be closer to that update than the original.
