I'm not sure if this should be bashed in the Survivor forums or TAR forums, so I'll just put it here. Is anyone planning on watching tonight?

I have a meeting, and no, I'm not taping it while I'm out.

I was giving a quarter-thought to summarizing it, but mostly because it's probably my only chance to have a summary in the Survivor forum. I don't think I want to hurt myself badly enough to try.

Ack. I am posting this to you Estee because you will understand how wrong this is. Amber wore a Britney Spear's pink Red Sox hat. That pretty much writes its own bashing material.

I loathe the pink MLB wear and all who wear it.

Any MLB paraphenalia that is not in the authorized colors of the team being represented is WRONG. Rangers jerseys should NOT be available in yellow, pink, or lime green.

I'll be watching. I don't know why there are so many Romber haters out there, I think they seem to be very happy, in love and are very cute together.

Here's a relationship that will probably last, because rather than meeting on a show like the Bachelor, where fantasy dates and alternate reality is set up for them, they were stuck on an island with no amenities, bugs and nothing to do but get to know who each other really are.

I wish them the best. I am a proponent of HAPPINESS!

...doing an East Coast summary of the show?

I'm teaching tonight and I don't particularly care about the wedding itself but I'll be watching on tape later on for all the snarky comments that is sure to take place. I'm hoping that others will be giving a running summary of the show while it's on so I can get my snark quota for the night while I'm in class!

What's the over/under on Rob suggesting the groomsmen wear BoSox hats and that Amber gets a dress that accentuates her "smokin'" ass?

Posted by kathliam on 05-24-05 at 09:07 PM
OK, so we start with the Burnett trademark recap of how they met, fell in love, Ambah wins All Stars and Romber comes in second in TAR. Now they embark on the most amazing adventure of all.

Rob and Amber are meeting with party-planner to the stars, Colin Cowie. Rob jokes Colin isn't the type of guy he would hang out with in a bar.

They have a guest list with 500 people on the list. Colin says that's way too many, Rob says too bad, 500 people already know they are invited and he doesn't want to disinvite anyone.

They're talking about food, Rob is listing lobster (lobstah), steak, lamb, pig on a spit, fish, sausages, on and on and on. Amber says it's too much food, Rob says okay we'll get rid of the stuff we don't need like salad and soup. Ha!

Amber wants to use the colors of the ocean, the bridesmaids in teal.

They are tooling around the resort in a golf cart looking for the perfect spot to have the ceremony. They decide to marry on the beach, since they fell in love on a beach.

They are in Amber's hometown where a friend will design and make her dress. Colin is a little nervous, he's accustomed to working with big name designers.

Amber and Rob are discussing the guest list. Rob wants everyone to have the opportunity to bring a guest, Amber isn't, they need to cut the list. Rob jokes that she's just afraid her single friends won't have anyone to hook up with.

Rob is smaht. He shows up at the bridal shower late but he brings a dozen roses and Ambah is content.

"Rob & Amber's wedding - Segment Two"
Posted by kathliam on 05-24-05 at 09:21 PM
Amber's bridal shower in Beaver, PA. Rob is out riding ATVs in the snow with his future BILs. The boys are stuck in the snow in the middle of nowhere and Amber can't reach him by phone, he's late for the gift opening. She's sure he won't show up until everyone has left. Rob finally arrives with a dozen pink roses, charms her out of being mad because he was late.

Now to Boston, Rob's hometown. Amber wants to take dance lessons, Rob says no way. He slow dances her in the kitchen, syas if she wants to dance faster she should go dance with her friends. He finally agrees to make Amber happy.

Ha, they still ride in the car TAR style, Rob driving and Amber in the back seat.

They are trying to take dance lessons, but Rob is not taking it seriously and he can't dance for sh*t. The teacher wants a second lesson, Rob says, um, no. Rob's buddies at the bar are giving him a hard time for dancing like Fred Astaire.

Rob is recruiting his buddies to finish a house in Florida that his Dad built, so he and Amber can move in. It's his surprise present to Amber. Drywall, painting, carpentry. Except Rob will be in New York doing wedding things.

Amber is working on Rob's gift, she wants something to do with the Red Sox. She visits an artist she and Rob admire, he has a painting he did of the Sox.

Rob's in New York to meet with Colin to purchase wedding clothes. They are at the Tommy Bahama store. Rob says they have to check with Amber.

Amber straps the painting to the hood of her car and takes it to be shipped to Florida, where the Red Sox are in spring training, to have the painting signed.

" Rob & Amber's wedding - Third segment"
Posted by kathliam on 05-24-05 at 09:33 PM
Amber is at the hardware store to ship the painting. This painting is huge, like 4'x5'.

Rob and his brother are in LA shopping for furniture for the house in Florida. This is the second time Rob has compared his wedding preparation to The Amazing Race. They have to pick out furniture, then the store has to ship it all to Florida to arrive in time to set up before the wedding.

He's hilarious in the furniture shop -- one of these, two of these, this whole display, a dozen Amber candles. The salesperson is incredulous, just keep thinking about that commission.

Amber and her friend are in Florida, the painting arrived, they are taking the painting to the game for the players to sign it. They are approached by someone who asks them to move the painting. They're bummed, 'cos they were in a great spot. The guy was upset they were taking up all the space, like the 14 other people in the stadium couldn't see around the thing?

Rob and his friends are at the house to finish the work. Actuallly the house is done, Rob made it sound at first that they would have to finish it, but it has carpet, light fixtures, everything. All the buddies are sharing their opinions on wall colors, etc.

Back with Amber at the ball field, they're trying to figure out how to get autographs from the players. They're having difficulty getting anyone to stop and sign the painting.

"Rob & Amber's wedding - Fourth Segment"
Posted by kathliam on 05-24-05 at 09:44 PM
Amber's still having trouble getting player to sign, until she told them it was for Boston Rawb, at which point the players came running up to sign. The players all lvoe Rawb.

All Rob's buddies are sleeping all over the floor at the house, Rob wakes them up as the furniture arrives. They are opening boxes and unpacking furniture. Rob: Fra-gilee, they must be Italian. They are painting the rooms, arguing about whether they are painting with the correct colors.

Amber receives a call from her dress designer that she muts have another fitting, it's only 10 days before the wedding and Colin wants them in the Bahamas for a tasting. Rob and Amber haven't seen each other in days.

They arrive in the Bahamas to taste food for the wedding. Tey bring out tons of food to taste, it all sounds delicious. Colin freaks them out a little with a long list of things to do before the wedding.

The stress and frustration are starting to show. (Don't you really feel sorry for them?) They are back in New York. Amber's crying and upset about missing her mother. Rob's p!ssed because the girls haven't gotten their dresses, nothing is getting done, there isn't a lot of time.

"Rob & Amber's wedding - Fifth Segment"

NYC, 9 days before the wedding. They have been running their tails off so decide to slow down a little and write their vows. Rob jokes that they should write each other's vows, that'll be funny.

BTW, DH, who didn't watch All Stars or TAR, watched 3 minutes of this and commented that, as crazy as it sounds, they really do appear to love and care for each other.

Back in Pensacola, the guys are unpacking boxes and trying to figure out how to decorate the rooms. One of the guys puts a 'Now Hiring' sign in the front yard to find someone who knows interior decorating.

Rob and Amber are meeting with a mixologist to design a special drink just for them to be served at their wedding. Rob says in Boston they call that a bartender.

Rob talks to the buddies, and the house is coming along. Rob and Amber decide to practice their dancing, so Rob just up and turns the hotel bed on its side so they have room.

They are leaving NYC and separating to get some of the last details done, Amber can visit her family and see the designer about her dress, Rob is heading to Boston. Before he leaves he stops at Martin Katz to pick up the wedding rings. He buys a pair of diamond stud earrings with a huge round diamond as her wedding gift. She's been wearing fake diamond earrings, she's conservative with money, and he wants her to have the real thing.

Rob's back in Pensacola and is very happy how his buddies decorated the house. It does look fabulous.

Back in Beaver, PA, Amber's home with her family. She heads over to meet with her designer and see her dress for the first time. Amber's Mom, sister and sister-in-law all come to see the dress also. How many piercings does Amber have in her ears? I counted four on the bottom and one on top, but didn't get a close look.

Amber heads to Boston and she and Rob go for their last dance lesson. Rob is having trouble dancing, he understands how they are describing the steps, but he doesn't have any rythym and he's frustrated. They have a big family dinner at Rob's parent's house.

The big day has come, Rob and Amber are back in the Bahamas. They meet with the officiant. They meet with the Magistrate to sign the marriage license. The Atlantis resort gives them a brochure and says 'pick' where they want to go for their honeymoon.

The guests start arriving for a huge barbeque the night before the wedding. Rob and Amber are shooting craps against each other after the barbeque, for some reason, they really don't explain that one.

Amber is taking all of her bridesmaids to swim with the dolphins for her bachelorette party. For his bachelor party, Rob is taking all his buddies on a fishing trip on a yacht.

Rehearsal dinner. They are presenting their surprises to each other. Amber shows Rob a video of carting the painting around, getting signatures from the Sox. I think he's more gellus that she was at springn training. She then shows him the painting. He's overcome and is crying. Amber says they'll have to build a really big house for the painting.

Rob says, well since you mention it, here's Amber's first gift. He shows her the video of the house. She can't believe it. Turns out the Amber wanted a canopy bed because it reminded her of where they stayed in Botswana.

It's the wedding day. Colin is working on setting up the beach. They are trucking in sand for the beach. I don't know why.

Rob shows his brother the earrings he bought Amber. Amber made Rob a necklace containing sand from Panama, where they fell in love, and the Bahamas, where they are getting married. She also wrote a poem for him.

Amber is reading Rob's card with a Bahstan accent and ooohs over the diamond earrings.

The girls are doing hair and make-up, the guys are shooting craps on the bedroom table.

Colin is setting up the reception site. He's planning a very dramatic entrance for the couple. Colin is blown away by Amber's dress. The bridesmaids dresses are blue, by the way, not teal.

She also wrote a poem for him.

I thought Amber said it was a poem her mother had written to her father. I laughed when Rob started to snicker at the word "breast", and his father snapped at him, "keep on reading."

Scenes of Rob and Amber being in love. Amber says Rob is very romantic and sensitive, not the tough guy everyone has seen. Rob says Amber is the first thing he thinks about in the morning, the last thing at night.

Amber's walking down the aisle and Rob is already tearing up.

Sure doesn't look like 500 people at the wedding, unless most of the people are only attending the reception.

Rob and Amber's vows are very sweet. They exchange rings and are husband and wife. Let's party! BeBe Winans and a gospel choir serenade them as they wedding party walks down the aisle.

I agree with Beav. It came across as a perm that was starting to wilt. She should have left her hair straight and done something to dress it up, like flowers or whatever...

ETA: Not that she didn't look beautiful, she did. I just think her normal hair would have looked more elegant.

The gospel choir and wedding party are walking across a bridge to the reception. It's an amazing set up, white fabric walls, tons of chinese lanterns lighting the space, blue accents everywhere. Chris Bodie (? a trumpet player) plays their first dance. They are both nervous and excited and the dance lessons went right out the window. Not much to look at, but they're happy.

OK, it does look as though 500 people are at the reception. Everyone is eating and having a great time. Big wedding cake with foundant and large pearls. Just as they cut the cake, fireworks go off behind the resort. Now the party gets started when the Caribbean band comes in.

Hope you guys had fun. See ya later.

Kath out.

Thanks Kath!

It really was a beautiful wedding.

I dunno, something doesn't seem real about them two. I look at them and see two Survivor competitors, almost forced into falling in love or something. I mean, I know you can't do this, but I don't look at them and see them as lovers.

Great job with the play-by-play, Kath! Thanks for doing this... I was checking in and out while running the night class and it kept me up to date on how the first half of the show was going.

Got home and watched it... Feh, it's what you could expect from these two, but there were plenty of funny, snarky moments from Rob that made it interesting to watch, even if the show was rather maudlin overall.

LAST EDITED ON 05-25-05 AT 01:28 PM (EST)

During their Leno appearance last week, they talked about the final number of guests and although I don't remember the exact number, they did end up chopping the 500 figure to something in the 200-something range that Colin wanted (250 is the number that was in yesterday's Boston Herald story.)

Why, I dunno -- maybe that's only as many as CBS was willing to pay for -- because I find it hard to believe that a celebrity wedding planner like Colin never had to deal with 500 guests.

I'm with Rob on this one, if it's not costing Rob and Amber a dime, why not let 500 people attend (and keep in mind that that unlike Rob and Amber, the guests -- except for Romber's closest family -- had to pay for their own tickets, hotel rooms, etc.)

I also found the gifts to each other part a little unclear -- I believe that part of their wedding contract included a significant wedding gift budget, and while the painting that Amber purchased obviously came from that (while they never said how much that painting cost, I'd bet it was very expensive), probably so did all the money spent on Rob's furniture shopping spree.

Plus, according to rumors, Rob also gave some of his CBS gift money to his parents in exchange for the Florida house -- but Rob's own words seem to imply that Rob and Amber don't OWN the home. Rob's comments to his friends were "my Dad just built a house down in Florida and he's going to let us move into the new house" -- which makes it sound like while Rob and Amber own the furniture, etc. that Rob bought, they're basically just crashing at his parent's new vacation home for the time being.

Then, when they announced each other's gifts, Rob said "thanks to my Mom and Dad, now we're going to live here" -- comment that might mean that his parents gave them the house, or could also just mean that they're letting them live there (with the parents presumably coming down and staying with them whenever they visit the area.)

Either way, it looks like Rob's parents were edited to appear excessively generous (something that if I'm Amber's Dad -- given the inclusion of my "I'm glad CBS is paying for it, now I don't have to" comment, might bug me a little.)

>OK, it does look as though

If you remember, Colin wouldn't let them have 500 guests. Then Rob and Amber had a big arguement over who they were going to cut from the list later on. According to Colin right before the wedding, the list was cut down to 250

Posted by Puffy on 05-25-05 at 01:28 AM
Kath, thanks for all the updates. Money is a prime problem in a marriage and they might have a problem in that area. Rob bought those diamond earrings and flew to LA to spend $40-50,000 on furniture to ship to Florida and he says Amber is "conservative" with money. And another thing: I'd sort of like to pick out the paint and furnish my own house, at least have some input on it.

"RE: Rob & Amber's wedding"
Posted by CattyChat on 05-25-05 at 10:36 AM
I was wondering about the money aspect as well, but it looked like, number one, Rob's family must be doing well. At least well enough that his parents built Rob and Amber a house in Florida.

Secondly, I am sure Rob probably made good money as a contractor and maybe he was "smaht" enough to save a lot for his future. AND don't forget their combined winnings on the survivor installments. Many people don't see that much money in a lifetime. Also, their wedding was free of charge so why not spend a little on some splurges. You only live once and they are both young and have plenty of time to continue working and making the money.

Lastly, I think the "surprise" of the home decorating was so cool. Obviously, he has been paying attention to Amber's tastes and likes over the last year or so. Now that they have settled down, if she wants to make any changes they have plenty of time to do so. I love surprises and the thought put into stuff like that.

Re: Home decorating - I'm sure Rob does know Amber's taste. He said that she loved that decorating store, so I'm sure that anything in the store would have been fine for her. The salesperson was also doing a bit of subtle guidance noting that the leather ottoman that Rob liked may be a bit too bachelor pad for Amber.

I thought the whole show was sweet. May they have a very happy life together.

We watched, mainly because I felt like wasting 2 hours of my life knowing I'd never get it back.

I did find it interesting that the only Survivors or Racers I saw at the wedding were Ray and Deana. Wonder if they were just among the first cut from the guest list or if they're less liked than I thought.

My figuring was that they took their Survivor and TAR guests off the list first, figuring they'd understand that CBS was running the wedding there just wasn't room.

You know EPMB wasn't running this show, otherwise Rupert would have performed the ceremony.

I clicked on this thread because I wanted to know which Survivors were at their wedding.

I am not into romance reality shows in general, and I reeeaaalllly can't stand Rob any more specifically. I thought Kathy and Lex would be there, guess not. I don't even know who Ray and Deana are. Were they on TAR?

Survivor, TAR, this wedding thing, and don't forget Rob the Player Operator on some Fox show last year. Please, get rid of them. I don't think there's any more "reality" for them to invade at this point, unless they're gonna try and be the Apprentice.

As did I, I must confess. Of course, with Sneetch moving out soon, long distance service provider ads make me weep copiously, too. Still, there was some general sweetness to Romber's Big Day.

Random thoughts -

Was Rob crying because he loved Ambuh's gift, or because she got to go to Red Sox Spring Training while he had to fly to LA and shop for furniture?

Z Gallery. Spinoff of Pottery Barn. I like Z Gallery stuff, too. Would I want my entire house decorated in Z Gallery? Hmmm. Arguably, between Z and Pottery Barn, it is. I wonder if Amber was a little disappointed at not being able to pick her own stuff out, though.

Rawb's friends certainly earned their air fare to the Bahamas.

I gave Ambuh props for turning down Vera Wang and sticking to family friend, Arlette, down the block. Luckily, Amber is so pretty and willowy that the potential cheesiness of the Butterick ensemble was held in check; she looked lvoely.

Rob looks exactly like his Dad, only a little younger and just very slightly less chubby.

I liked those bridesmaid's dresses.

When the choir started up, the event suddenly turned into a great big catered baptism.

"Fronk" from "Father of the Bride" was more entertaining than Whathisface who coordinated this nuptial.

Now, will Rombah simply fade away, retire from all this limelight and raise a passel of little Italians? Or will we ALL be present for the birth of their first bouncing baby reality star?

I would, ordinarily, but the VCR I was using actually DID melt into goo, and destroyed the tape. I have to go out this evening and buy a replacement, probably another piece of junk from Target. *sob*

I loved Amber for having her dress made by her mom's best friend. I think it showed real character and good values. As she said, she could have gotten the dress from the top designers but she realized how much it meant to have the dress made by someone who's been a family friend her whole life. It also provided one of the funniest moments when the wedding planner listed all the designers he's worked with and said the list didn't include anyone from Beaver.
I would have liked Rob's gift a lot more if it was the house and a box with a big bow with paint and rug samples, tickets to Los Angeles and a gift certificate for them to shop together at Z Gallery.

I LOVED the wedding! Romber is just two cute for words. They are obviously in love. I would much rather watch them than Nick and Jessica! Maybe MTV will give them their own version of "Newlyweds."

GREAT idea. They are so much more entertaining and wow, to me, they look sincerely head over heels in love and so right for each other. Maybe Burnette or CBS will do a newlyweds version with Rob & Amber (since I don't know if they are bound to CBS or anything) . . . goldmine.

I too enjoyed watching ROMBER get married. I was a little skeptical (sp?) at first but was soon pleasantly surprised... I would definately watch them again if they were given another show. Truthfully, Rob is the attention getter with his little comments that he comes up with. Unlike Nick and Jessica who have their "show-biz" careers as a backdrop plot...I wonder what Romber would do to fill up an episode of "newlyweds"...make guest appearances at various events? It's not like we could see them fix up and decorate their house...that's been done...either way, I'm pretty sure I'd watch.

Rob told the Boston Herald that they've been approached about a Newlyweds-like show, but are concerned about the cameras:

http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack/view.bg?articleid=84494

``We have a lot of offers and opportunities, but I can't discuss them,'' said Amber's handy hubby.

One opportunity that has gotten some ink is a show a la MTV's ``Newlyweds.'' But Mariano said he's worried about the 24/7 filming thing.

``We'd like to make it work,'' he said. ``But if we could get an agreement that the cameras wouldn't roll 24 hours a day on us and be a big invasion of privacy, we'd consider it. It may be fun.''

Personally, I have to wonder how boring a show like that would quickly get -- I mean unlike Nick and Jessica, these two aren't performers. Other than showing them work the public speaking circuit and making one lame public appearance after another, what would we see?

MTV's Newlyweds is over, and new shows like Meet The Barkers aren't doing quite as well so there's a chance that a network like MTV (which like CBS, is also owned by Viacom) might be interested, but I'm not sure a show based around the couple's day-to-day activities would make for good TV.

They make a cute couple- he seems very sweet to her.

She looked nice but her veil looked like someone had pinned a roll of toilet paper to the back of her head. I felt bad for her when it got caught on the arch.

Hi all. The recap was great thanks for putting it together. I just wanted to make couple of comments on the show last night

1. Class act. I really felt that Rob and Amber had a lot of control over how the whole thing played out. There were no thongs or drunken fights as were "staged" for Ryan and Trista. I felt that they wanted a family atmosphere that reflected their love for their families and each other.

2. The "real" deal. As reality TV veterans, both Rob and Amber had huge personalities to overcome. As the evening unfolded, they portrayed themselves as real people, with real feelings for each other. She wasn't a diva, with it only being "all about her" and he wasn't an obnoxious jerk, but a man who cared about his woman.

3. Adventure, not lap dances. The most telling thing of the night I felt were the choices for bachelor/bachelorette parties. How nice that they didn't want to put each other in a position to be embarrassed or hurt (you KNOW CBS would have paid for whatever obscene, naked, etc. that one could think of) the other.

Just my thoughts.

Agree with you on all three points -- I was pleasantly surprised by Romber and how much they were 'down to earth' about everything in their wedding, and it truly showed their genuineness about family and the wedding.

I didn't think about it at the time but now that you brought it up, they really handled themselves well with who they hung out with and the things they did.

And why, exactly, did Rawb think that this was something that he needed to point out?

Because I think Rob's the type of person who doesn't care for pretense.

And I can't say I blame him -- this country's "sanitation engineer" obsession with bogus but impressive sounding job titles has gotten a little bit out of hand.

I think that you are responding to the comment about the "mixologist."

I was more interested in why Rawb still feels that it is necessary to ferret out the gay person in every situation and make sure that everybody knows who he is (hence the quote that included in my post). What, does he think that people need to be warned that there is a faggot in their midst for some reason?

courtesy of Seana and Syren - thanks gals!

This is a pattern for Rawb going all the way back to the Marquesas.

Yup, yup, yuppers.

I'd tuned out by this point in the show, so I don't know how it was delivered. But Rob has a history of calling out anyone around him (the infamous "big-time queer" quote with John and his subsequent outing of him in hopes of bringing him down in the eyes of Neleh and Paschal, calling Lynn/Alex "the gay guys" and now this). I absolutely hate it when someone calls me "the gay guy."

To me, this is no different than the OT thread about the girl who was labeled as "black girl" in the yearbook. It shows an inability to see anything in someone different than you beyond a broad label.

eta: but I'll agree about the mixologist...

A gay wedding planner? Now I've seen everything.

NOT BY FAR! It was entertaining and put together very nicely. I think they are a great couple and really in love. This was a far cry from that pink debacle called Ryan and Trista's wedding.... it was so much better than that pink fiasco with the phony drama.

I enjoyed it and wish them a lifetime of happiness!!!
