"another american idol mini-scandal?"

Posted by uberspoon on 03-13-05 at 05:28 PM
*So much for my favorite.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) "American Idol" will begin its Final 12 on Tuesday (March 15) with a different dozen than viewers saw unveiled last Wednesday night. In a surprisingly move, Mario Vazquez has withdrawn from the popular FOX talent show and will be replaced by Nikko Smith.
Offering no explanation beyond the always vague "personal reasons," FOX announced on Sunday (March 13) that Vazquez would no longer be competing on "Idol." A 27-year-old from New York City with smooth dancing moves and a pure voice, Vazquez had been one of the favorites since his "Idol" audition in Las Vegas.

A recent set of odds put out by an offshore betting group had Vazquez as a third betting choice, behind only Anwar Robinson and Bo Bice.

Smith, son of Cardinals and Padres great Ozzie Smith, will take the place in the Top 12 that many viewers had assumed would be his before his unexpected departure last week. Smith had been considered another of the competition's favorites after strong renditions of "Georgia on my Mind" and "Let's Get It On" in the previous two weeks, but was not originally one of the six leading votegetters among the "Idol" men.
Check Zap2it for further information as it becomes available.

I have never heard of Zap2it. Is this a reliable source?

If this is true, than I am very happy! Not that Mario is out, but that Nikko is in.

I will be watching the local news for an update.

i get all of my entertainment news from zap2it.com..and they have never misreported anything i have seen.
that's about as well as i can personally vouch for them.

nikko will be in a very shaky position next week, i'd think...he's technically already been voted out once.

I don't mean to question you, but I am from St. Louis, and I haven't heard anything on the local news. Believe me, they would jump on this!

As far as Nikko being in a shaky positon, he is probaly in the worst position of any contestant ever. However, I think it would be great that he "might possibly" have a second chance.

I actually think he'll be in a *very* good position for some time to come. He'll have the Clay Aiken Wild Card reaction, I'm predicting. Alot of people were disapointed that he didn't make it on originally. All of those people are going to be powervoting for him for at least the next couple of weeks to make sure it doesn't happen again. It's like when the favourites landed in the bottom three. It's a wake up calls for the fans to actually vote. Now that Nikko fans have something to rally against, and he's pitted against some of the weaker females in the Top 12, I predict him staying around at minimum another few weeks, and possibly gaining enough momentum to go far into the competition(although I don't predict a win out of him).

Nikko ain't no Clay. I don't believe he'll be around very long.

This is different than the other scandals because this is the first time someone is actually back that had been VOTED OUT by the public. Correct?

No, EJ was brought back when that other guy lied about his age, but then he was the first one voted off in the finals.

I think i missed the first few shows from season one, but i don't believe EJ was actually voted off by the public, was he? Wasn't the finalists all picked by the judges???

Considering that this is the first season that the competition has been broken down by gender, I don't think it's accurate to assume that Nikko got the lowest number of votes.

True, that is a very good point.

We had two separate nights to vote.....by gender.
I can't help but think that Nikko will last a few nights longer than some of the gals, but we certainly will see.

Maybe he can outlast Constantine....

Though the Fox website doesn't give an explanation, they do say that Nikko is in the top 12.

OK so, I checked idolfox.com. Nikko's picture has indeed been replaced with Mario's.

Bye, Bye Mario. HELLO, Nikko! Welcome back!

I posted this on the other board but here is the pic for those who still doubt. This came from idolonfox.com where it shows the contestants that have been voted off.

Word in other forums is that he left due to his association with Michael Jackson. If this is true (and I have no idea as to the validity of this information), one has to wonder if he did it on his own or did the AI powers-that-be ask him to leave?

I did a quick search for a complete witness list but couldn't find one. It's a long shot, but any chance he's on the list?

From his questionnaire on the Idols website:
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
Working with Michael Jackson.

I have to say, I'm happy. Mario had a great voice and an impressive repotoire as a performer, and he was a favorite to go far, but I liked Nikko better, I enjoyed him more as a performer.

So when you say scandal, what are you implying? Just curious.
He's my initial thought...
FOX was probably suprised and disappointed about Nikko's departure. They thought his name (or his father's name), the St. Louis market, and the fact that he did have a couple of good weeks would get him through to the top 12. The people in St. Louis new he had a strong week and they didn't think that he would need all of their votes, so they were voting for other favorites to help get them through.
In the mean time Mario is having some problems, maybe his mom is sick or something, and she is used to having his around, and Mario is probably home sick, being across the country. And maybe there is a jealous significant other also pressuring him to come home.
So FOX probably noticed this all going on, and maybe they didn't pressure Mario into withdrawing, but didn't pressure him into staying either, because they knew that Nikko would be the one to take his place.
YOU THINK???????

Or maybe..... Mario had to drop out for personal reasons, and they called Nikko back because he received more votes than Travis. YOU THINK?

Personal reasons is such a vague thing to say. If someone was ill you would know about it. http://www.drudgereport.com/ says that Mario did not want to be tied down to an AI contract and wanted to go out and get his own deal. Huge risk with huge reward if it works.

every single time that someone has exited American Idol through means other than being voted out, it has been the result of some sort of scandal.

The guys who were replaced by EJay and George: one lied about his age and i think the other one cut a guy in a bar fight.

Frenchie: soft porn past

Corey: beat up his sister.

so when i ask 'another mini-scandal?' it was my way of expressing my curiousity as to whether or not Mario had something a little shady in his past. although i hope he doesn't, he was actually my fav. this season...oddly enough, so was Frenchie. i think i might be an A.I. jinx.

A local radio station (for what THAT's worth) mentioned that Mario refused to sign an exclusivity contract the top 12 are required to sign stating IDOL dictates where they are allowed to perform.

That's what the radio station here is reporting too.

"Why he left ?"
Posted by Ricky on 03-14-05 at 12:21 PM
Yep, it looks like it's a true story. The real reason he's left the show though seems to be in doubt.

Here's what I've heard so far as to why he left:

1) Personal reasons.
2) Already signed a record contract.
3) Will be testifying in the Michael Jackson trial.

In the end, those of us that walk away winning, win more than just a loss - Audrey, Apprentice loser

Last week a co-worker saw a survey on Idolonfox.com asking who America would want back. The largest percentage was for Nikko. I wonder if they already knew Mario was gonna quit, wanting to make a little drama out of it, booted off Nikko so they could "reinstate" him?

I know it's a stretch, but hey?

They would have rathered Mario not make the finals rather than having to reinstate Nikko.
