"Neil? Who's Neil?"

Or so the editing seemed to suggest last night. Someone had to leave the cage? Wow -- that's pretty major. Something big would have had to happen for news to be carried back to a contestant. Something really big, because the producers have told contestants about outside events once before this: Monica and 9/11, because she had a relative at the site. And that's been it. So we can pretty safely assume that whatever happened in Neil's life, it was an earthquake-level shakeup that had to be attended, no matter what.

And the result of this for the show's airtime?

'Neil left. Whatever. Did we even have a Neil? What's really important is watching Joshuah make his decision in the Diary Room as to who he's partnered with next. And from this moment on, we will never mention Neil again. Whoever that was.'

Anyone else find that editing to be just a little bit unrealistic? Unoffensive? Ridiculous?

'Bad joke' works too.

Was Neil the bigot, the whiner, or the slut?

None of the above.

Believe it or not.

It does seem odd they wouldn't mention what happened.

The only thing I can think of is the family members involved wouldn't sign a release to allow them to mention anything about it.

Trying to remember if we've had any other deaths in the family that people didn't find out about until it was over.

I wonder if he'll do an interview at any point to explain.

He's off to DAW anonymity with Gary from Survivor: Fiji. And his partner has turned straight.

Watch - he'll get a Big Brother tattoo.

It was a weird departure for Neil because he was even removed from the opening credits. It's as if he was never there in the first place.

I'm curious about something. When other houseguests have left the house without being evicted (ie. BB4's Scott) were their names left on the opening credits or were they removed as well? Does anyone remember?

Names are usually taken from the opening credits when players are evicted. Pictures and video of them remain. Names do not. Therefore, Neil received a standard-issue eviction from the point of view of the credits.

Neil's picture isn't there anymore though. There are 16 squares with pictures in them in the opening credits. Jacob's picture is there, but in black and white. Neil's picture has been replaced with a solid red square. Like Josh said-- it's as if he never existed.

That's just insulting to Neil. From what little we've heard, this wasn't an Osten: it was a Jenna. 'Something's wrong: I have to go' -- with the added factor of not having it be instinct: he knew there was a situation.

Jeff wouldn't throw his torch to the ground in that situation. BB shouldn't remove his picture.

Idiots.

They'd throw his torch to the ground if they were angry.

Neil and his family probably elected to not let CBS milk his problem for ratings and would not sign a release, which would have led to him having to forfeit his stipend, which would lead CBS to declare Neil dead to them (a la Cappy).

*sigh* It's not as if we didn't know Endemol was a bunch of jerks to begin with. Come to think of it, it's kind of amazing how we're all willing to keep waiting around for extra proof.

So there's what might be Neil's cardinal sin: he made the human decision instead of the DAW one. They put someone with normal priorities in the cage. Watch that never happen again.

My theory. Neil felt his soul dying a slow and painful death and realized he would not have any resemblance of humanity left if he stayed. For that, I tip my hat to him. God Bless.
