"random questions about American Idol"

I'm deciphering the notes I scribbled down last night and hope you fine people can help me out.

I have never actually watched AI in its entirety. Like bacon, I usually jump ship when the audition days stop and the semi finals begin. I much prefer Simon's meanness to the American public's voting tally.

But, having nothing better to do on Monday and Tuesday nights, I have been watching. Of course, I can't watch on Wednesdays, so I'll have to check back here for the results. If I care that much, which I likely don't.

Anyway, do they always break up the semi finals into males and females?

Does anyone know anything about viewership on Mondays vs. Tuesdays?

How do the results days compare to the Mon and Tue viewership?

I watched Monday night in its entirety. I'm attached to Bo because I have a feeling the new AI is going to be a white male, and I liked him the best. I don't think he'll win, but he's my favorite. In sooth, that McCauley Culkin wannabe will probably win. Miracle child, and all that. And he's Clay-like, but not gay. If he sings a country song, he's *so* the next AI.

Anyway, I didn't have time for the women, so I watched the recap at the end. Now I don't like any of them. So I'm wondering how Mon vs Tue viewership goes, and if there is an inherent bias by putting them up on these days.

Do they always do men first then women? Help me, AI historians.

For the first question--this is the first year of the split between males and females. In the past they were grouped together. This will happen until we get six and six, then its a free for all.

As for the others, there is no way to tell until the ratings come in next week. But I would assume, as in previous years, the results shows will do better than the other two. You also got to consider what is on the other channels at the time as well. Mondays usually are duller days on tv (I watch Raw and go back and forth, personally) and Tuesdays tend to have more shows on.

So, we shall see.

Hi CQ -

This season of AI has this new 'twist'. Usually its the judges pick the final 12. This season they picked 24, split by gender equally.

Now, in essence, America picks the final 12, and then i would assume it will continue as usual. For some reason, they want the final 12 to be split evenly by gender also.

The results show will be a long, drawn out, hour where "you can cut the tension with a knife". Lots of commercials, lots of Ryan jabbering, more recaps, etc.

In my opinion, the results show should always be 30 minutes long max.

My first season watching more than just the auditions as well. Monday and Tues. I've been recording the show to watch later, that way I can fast forward through all the crap, works out quite nicely.

First year of the stupid gender split. I don't like it at all. there were some good people cut because of the split.

We won't know about ratings until next week.

Bo knows

and I came out of lurking to say that Clay is NOT gay and it's not very nice to say so.

It's a Syren.

I don't think any really good people were cut because of the split. Last year the men were much weaker than the women and I think only 4 guys made the final 12. This year if anything, the men would have gotten more than twelve out of the top 24 places. So if anything the 13th best guy was cut to keep the 12th best woman in the competition. In either case the 13th best guy or the 12th best woman would have no chance of making the top 12.

You know, I was initially against the gender split, because I thought we'd see the (traditionally) weaker males retained when the (traditionally) stronger females were eliminated to keep the ranks even. But this year, there's easily as many gifted males. Further, I found it easier to compare/contrast, let alone remember names matched to faces, with the gender split nights. So I'm grudgingly approving of the new mechanism.

Clay seems sort of generally anti-sexual, to me. But far it be from me to question Brave.

I am still anti the gender split. I think the top twelve should be based on the best twelve whether they be men or women. Perhaps this year the 12th woman and the 13th male could be interchangable and might not make it to the top twelve but we will never know. I just don't care for it.

It's a Syren.

My gaydar just isn't going off on this one. Also suspects that CQ knows that I was kidding around.

Question: Anyway, do they always break up the semi finals into males and females?

Answer: Nope. This is the first year they've changed the format.
In prior years, we had a Final 32, mixed genders. If my faulty
memory serves, eight people sang each week for four weeks.

During the results show, the three top vote recipients would
be pulled aside. After a fair amount of high drama, only the
top two move on.

So two each week, four weeks....eight finalists. Then there'd be
a Wild Card show. (Call it "The Fifth Week", if you want.)

The judges would bring back eight people, usually the third
vote-getter from previous weeks, or strong contenders
otherwise.

During the Wild Card results show, the final four slots will
be filled by:

1. The top vote-getter for the Wild Card show.
2. Randy's choice
3. Paula's choice
4. Simon's choice

Yep. Judges were able to send the last three straight to
the finals, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

In fact, Simon chose someone who wasn't even in the
semi-final rounds last year. (Carmen Rasmussen)

This year, they've reduced the amount of semi-final weeks,
trying to make the Final 12 an even amount of men vs. women.
I would hazard a guess that they changed the format due to
last year's mostly female finalists. As far as I know, the
results are all viewers' choice this year, with no override
selections by the judges. (Don't quote me, but that's my guess.)

Question: Does anyone know anything about viewership on Mondays vs. Tuesdays?

Answer: This is the first year they've had Monday shows.
It's usually been Tuesday (performances) and Wednesday (results).
I think that once the Final 12 are chosen, we'll return to that
format.

How do the results days compare to the Mon and Tue viewership?

We won't know about Mondays, since we don't have last year
to compare to. I never paid much attention to the ratings,
but I'd think most people tune into the results show during
the last 10 minutes. (The rest of the hour is pure filler!)

Whew. I hope some of my wordiness made sense.

This goes without saying. Of course you hate the women. I'm glad you are woman enough(if that's the right term) to admit it. All women secretly hate other women.

But anyways, back to the topic. I think the Monday/Tuesday ratings are generally the same. And I don't think they've always divided up the sexes. But, with the exception of last season, they've ended up with a Male-Female final two. First was Justin and Kelly. Then Ruben and Clay.

And for the record, I still can't believe they deleted my topic about slapping a certain contestant, whom will remain nameless. Come on people!

For the record, I still can't believe that you didn't know that posts about individual contestants in the Idol forums do not go into the General Discussion Forum ... and that you didn't go to the Individual Contestant Forum to see if we'd moved it into the right place. If you had looked for it, you'd have found it:

Deleted? If we'd deleted it, it would have been for your comment about other posters having no life, not for your take on this bimbo.

"Format without wild card"
Posted by Flairmarq on 02-24-05 at 04:13 PM
By what they were saying last night, no wild card or judges picks this year. Its straight vote. That's why I was confused about Paula not have an invidual pic when her and Simon disagreed.
