I hope the girls are as good as the guys were last night.

Vonzell Solomon was first and sang Heat Wave

Well, the judges liked her. I just thought she was ok.

I thought she was only okay, too but the song was upbeat which is what the judges are looking for.

Amanda Avular followed with How amI supposed to live without you by Michael Bolton. It was the type of song the judges deemed safe last night.

So far, I'm not impressed (3 singers).

Very simply.....I agree. Not impressed at all.

Definitely through the first few songs the guys were much better.

Me neither. Now Carrie Underwood is doing a great job. But so far the women have not impressed me. The guys were good to great (vocally) across the board last night. The first few women were pitchy.

eta: ok, I solemnly promise not to use the word 'pitchy' again tonight.

Janay Castine sang a song I am not familiar with. The judges thought the song was too old for her.

Carrie Underwood sang "Could've Been" by Tiffany. The judges were impressed. She was only okay to me.

"Carrie Farmgirl"
Posted by sorgee on 02-22-05 at 08:18 PM
She threw it down and owned it. Well, at least compared to the others so far...

"RE: Carrie Farmgirl"
Posted by callalilly3000 on 02-22-05 at 08:20 PM

I really liked her. Far better than the first three.

Carrie, you're talking about yourself!!!

You need to say "I nailed it"....
Great job, best of the night, so far!!!

I am going to restate my opinion that they should retire certain songs from this competition. They make it so boring hearing the same Michael Bolton-Celine Dion etc. songs over and over.

Harumph! Who wants to bet a Whitney Houston song is coming up?

So far the judges are being overly nice in their critiques. Last night they were overly critical.

Hi kathliam

"No Zip"

Dull, dull, dull for an upbeat song. (girl in green tank)

Is this a puppet show?

"RE: American Idol Semifinal Show - Females East Coast Thread"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:24 PM
Sarah Mather sang the Motown classic Get Ready. I was not impressed at all for an upbeat song. The judges did not like it.

"Sarah Mather"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:25 PM
I didn't think it was a great song for her, but liked her voice. Of course, the judges disagreed with me.

she doesn't have my natural, wholesome good looks, but she is doing alright with what she has to work with.

Yo miss, Don't let it go to your head. The guys would haven eaten your lunch.

"Melinda Lira"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:27 PM
"The Power of Love" is a song you better be great to sing. Another let down to me

"RE: Melinda Lira"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:29 PM
Her voice is okay, but didn't it seem to you that the tempo was too slow?

"RE: Melinda Lira"
Posted by anotherkim on 02-22-05 at 08:51 PM
it was and she seemed to be sining from the back of her throat or something. Oh, and that outfit? Could she have looked ANY wider and more flat chested? Maybe if she wore horizontal stripes. Sad.

"RE: Melinda Lira"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 09:02 PM
They definitely need your satorial expertise, Kimmah.

"hmmm... Melinda is "

well, melinda is someone i need to keep my eye on. the girl can belt out a diddy. (i might have to rub sheep dung on her later.)

"Nadia Turner"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:33 PM
Ah, she can sing better than that. This song is not showcasing her talents. And she looks like a member of the cast of 'Hair'.

"Nadia"

Hands down.

Best of the night.

WOW.

DAMN!!!!

The boys do have some competition this year. I thought the girls were weak this year, but Nadia, Aloha, Carrie will provide some tough competition.

Was that Jimmy Hendrix????

No, seriously, great job. Nice mix up for the night.

"Celena Rae"

She's a good looking women she needs to move the mike away from her mouth so she can be seen better.

"RE: Celena Rae"

The judges dislike the song.

"RE: Celena Rae"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:38 PM
I like her voice. I'm looking forward to hearing other styles from her. She has a good lower range and surprisingly strong upper range (for what the song offered). At least she isn't doing the 'scream' thing. (Lord I hate that.)

"RE: Celena Rae"
Posted by callalilly3000 on 02-22-05 at 08:42 PM
At least she isn't doing the 'scream' thing. (Lord I hate that.)

Ahem!

"Mikalah Gordon"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:44 PM
Is she channeling Fran Drescher? The dress is horrid. What kind of accent does she have when she speaks, because she has some weird enunciation going on there.

OK, she sounds like Drescher when she tawks, too.

"RE: Mikalah Gordon"
Posted by callalilly3000 on 02-22-05 at 08:46 PM
She could be channeling Fran.. but I enjoy her. I know that I am in the minorty here, but I would like to see more of her.

"RE: Mikalah Gordon"
Posted by anotherkim on 02-22-05 at 08:46 PM
was she singing in English?

Miscellaneous Ramblings
--really, and people talk about Southern accents?? That was unholy.

"RE: Mikalah Gordon"
Posted by zombiebaby on 02-22-05 at 09:00 PM
I think those "Brush up" commercial singers would add a little zip as background singers, no?

"RE: Mikalah Gordon"

I had to leave the room. I couldn't take it.

"RE: Mikalah Gordon"

Never mind my voice or my threads, what the hell was that on my head?

Wait, was that my hair?

"Mikalah Gordon"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:45 PM
The girl is only 16. She took a chance on the song, "Young Hearts Run Free" They like her personality. I don't know if I like her are not but she was different.

"Lindsey Cardinale"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:47 PM
She has a very pleasant voice, but the song really didn't do anything for me.

"did lindsey"
Posted by sorgee on 02-22-05 at 08:47 PM
grab her freakin' breast while singing on national tv???

"RE: did lindsey"

Sure looked that way, didn't it?

"RE: did lindsey"
Posted by sorgee on 02-22-05 at 08:50 PM
guess her song choice should have been I Touch Myself (The Divinyls)

"RE: did lindsey"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:51 PM
I had no problem with it, Dawg.

"RE: American Idol Semifinal Show - Females East Coast Thread"
Posted by anotherkim on 02-22-05 at 08:48 PM
Lindsey...Ugh. Flat, flat, flat or something. Horrible. And her boobs look naked in that drecky top.

Miscellaneous Ramblings
--these people need me to advise them in style; they obviously have no mothers.

"Lindsay Cardinale"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:48 PM
She has a country voice but sang a very safe song. The judges think she needs to take chances.

Get that hair out of your eyes please.

"Jessica Sierra"

I like the song, the judges liked her performance

"RE: American Idol Semifinal Show - Females East Coast Thread"
Posted by anotherkim on 02-22-05 at 08:53 PM

Oh, my Jessica Sierra's bangs are eating her nose. That's kind of scary. Not as scary, however, as how she is totally butchering Phil Collins' Take a Look at Me Now.

Miscellaneous Ramblings
--yucko.

"jessica"
Posted by sorgee on 02-22-05 at 08:54 PM
kinda reminds me of britney and does the world really need another one?

"Jessica Sierra"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:54 PM
"Take A Look At Me Now" by Phil Collins. Randy likes her husky voice, Paula likes her stage presence, Simon doesn't think it's her best but she has potential.

PS, please correct me if the title to the song is "Against All Odds"

"RE: Jessica Sierra"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:55 PM
It is Against All Odds.

"RE: Jessica Sierra"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:56 PM
I was afraid of that as soon as I posted. I'm so bad at song titles. (which is why I haven't been including them in my posts)

"Aloha Mischeaux"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:55 PM
Girl is working the stage. Voice isn't shabby either.

"Shhhh..."
Posted by zombiebaby on 02-22-05 at 08:57 PM
I am working the zone...Aloha, Aloha, Aloha

Heh Paula used the word "niche", I hope she realizes that does not mean her nail polish smudged.

"Aloha"
Posted by sorgee on 02-22-05 at 08:56 PM
she really needs to get over her shyness and stagefright...

"Aloha"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 08:57 PM
They loved her stage presense

"RE: Aloha"
Posted by callalilly3000 on 02-22-05 at 09:37 PM

She was great! I am proud that she is from my home town, and she will be receiving my vote tonight!

She really worked it out! Great job Aloha!

"Who am I Loving Tonight?"
Posted by kathliam on 02-22-05 at 08:59 PM
Carrie Underwood, definitely.

Sarah Mather - want to see more of her.

Nadia Turner - what kind of style range does she have?

Celena Rae.

Mikalah Gordon - yes,I want her to stay around.

Lindsey Cardinale

Jessica Sierra

Aloha Micheaux.

The others? Pffft.

"RE: Who am I Loving Tonight?"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 09:01 PM
Carrie, Nadia and Aloha were the best of the bunch tonight.

"RE: Who am I Loving Tonight?"
Posted by callalilly3000 on 02-22-05 at 09:40 PM
I have my top three:

Carrie

Nadia

and ALOHA!!!!!

The rest were ok. Not bad at all. This promises to be a great season!

BTW, I really do like Mikalah, and I hope she stays around, I LVOE her spunk!

"RE: American Idol Semifinal Show - Females East Coast Thread"
Posted by seahorse on 02-22-05 at 09:05 PM
I am predicting another male American Idol. I think the top three or four performances were by males. Last year it was the other way around.

I never heard A Latoya, Fantasia or the like.

"PM's take"
Posted by PhoenixMons on 02-22-05 at 09:38 PM
Top four:

Aloha - she was awesome!
Carrie - fantastic voice. Came a little close to being pageant-y, but I really liked her.
Nadia - rocked it
Vonzell - she's better than her performance tonight. But she was still better than the other 8.

The rest were all boring on the whole. I did like Melinda Lira, but not the song. Her voice is beautiful.

I've never been that fond of Sarah or Lindsey and tonight proved why. They just don't have it. Blah voices, blah on stage. Celina...whatever. Janay - I really like her, but she was off tonight. She's still adorable though. Amanda was talking about how she would give up the singing thing if she didn't make it through. She probably should do just that. I just don't like her. Jessica is one I think has potential but tonight wasn't her night. Mikalah is walking a thin line of energetic/fun and annoying/wanna-smack-her-upside-her-goofy-head. I think she's better than her performance tonight indicated, but she definitely has something special about her. She's certainly not one of my favorites, but you don't forget her.

Boys were better (not surprised there). There were only a few 'icky' boy performances. More than half of the girls were 'icky'.

Got blog?
