"Billy Joel Night wish list"

Yeah, we "technically" have a thread on this topic, but this one is just for wish lists.

Clay - "Just The Way You Are" (-*melt-*)

Ruben - "River Of Dreams" - let that low-talent harlequin drown himself in backing vocals again.

Carmen - "We Didn't Start The Fire" - enunciation is her greatest virtue.

Kim C - She could salvage herself with "You May Be Right." This one will be hard for her to screw up. And I think she is by far the most clinically psychotic contestant there.

Trenyce - Call me crazy, but I can her her tearing up "Movin' Out"

Kim L - "New York State Of Mind." If there was ever a shot to push her back on top, honey, this is it.

Josh - "Allentown." This one will twang up well for him. And he can sing a song aout men going through hardships he himself has not experienced. (*cough*)

Josh is gonna do Shameless ( I bet) Yes everyone thinks of it as a Garth Brooks song, but it's Billy.

I think you called it, Buggy. Billy Joel did indeed write "Shameless", and this would give Josh a chance to embrace the country identity he's carving out for himself.

*yawn* How inspired. (Josh's likely choice, not Buggy's prediction nor Bebo's reponse.)

I have this itchy feeling that somebody's gonna do 'Uptown Girl' just because the audience will know it. Actually, I think Carmen will do it. She probably could enunciate 'We Didn't Start the Fire' though, and it wouldn't take a lot of vocal power (though it wouldn't be a great showcase for anyone either).

'Piano Man' is not permitted unless one is actually at a piano.

I actually think Josh could do a mean "Uptown Girl".

"New York State of Mind" could be sung, in a total smoky, jazzy, bluesy, arrangement by Trenyce or Kim L.

I would love someone to have the guts to sing "Downeaster 'Alexa' ", but I doubt they have the balls or the talent so go for such a sad, tough song.

"A matter of Trust" would be my choice for Clay, but alas I think Clay will sing something syrupy like "Lullabye" or "River of Dreams".

Kim C. could do "My Life".

Ruben could do "Just the Way You Are"

Carmen can botch up "It's Still Rock & Roll to Me".

No one can do "Piano Man".

So many other Billy Joel songs to choose from, damn this guys has a bunch. "You're Only Human", "I Go To Extremes", "This Is the Time", "Only the Good Die Young", "Longest Time" and so many others. WHEEEWW !!!!! Great songbook.

I feel bad that these kids are going to kill them.

I've been to a bijillion concerts in my life, but Billy Joel is probably my favorite. You're right dear katem. He has so many awesome songs - it will be painful to hear so many of them butchered tonight.

I would love to see someone try "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant". "The Stranger" is still one of my favorite albums of all time, and yes, it dates me.

Think more along "songs that work with a random 1:30 of them pulled out of context."

Vienna would be good one from that album. Also, Only the Good Die Young.

I would give my eyeballs to hear Clay do "Vienna"! But he needs to do something up-tempo - I could see him doing "Pressure", which would be a nice diversion for him. Either way, ballad or uptempo, this is a category that could be tailor-made for Clay - there's so much to pick from that would be perfect for him. (Just please not "Uptown Girl" - for any of them. I absolutely loathe that song!)

I hate to sound totally evil, but I LOVE that we're getting a category that's NOT made for Ruben (*rubs hands together in wicked glee*). Of course, not that it matters - Simon can just lie his ass through that one too - "Simply fantastic" - the way he kept doing with Carmen until last week! But the thought of Ruben getting the smackdown from the judges almost has me salivating!!!

I hate to disagree with you, Cycle, but if I hear Clay sing one more ballad, I may have to swallow my tongue. Clay, dearest, we get the picture, you can sing a ballad. Even "Everlasting Love" became a ballad. Try something a bit different. Give Uptown Girl a shot and move a bit.

Clay needs to do an uptempo song tonight. He has nothing to lose. Even if it sucks, he's not going anywhere and people want to see him stretch. Matter of Trust would be good or Only the Good Die Young.

Ruben should do Longest Time or River of Dreams or Always a Woman to Me.

New York State of Mind would work nicely for Kim L.

Kim C will do a horrible job on Movin Out

Carmen will do Tell Her About It or We Didn't Start the Fire. She'll take a risk and it'll pay off.

I don't know what the hell Trenyce will do - he's not got a lot of diva songs does he?

Buggy's right - Josh will do Shameless and it will suck. And he still won't make the bottom three. He could literally defecate on himself and not make the bottom three at this point. Have I mentioned that I think Josh sucks? Josh sucks.

I'd like to see Clay do "Still Rock & Roll To Me", as a tongue-in-cheek reference to his geekdom:

What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing...

But why do I see him picking "Keepin' the Faith" or "Honesty"?

I think Bebo is gonna win that pick.

I'd like to see Josh do "You May Be Right", he's already karyoked Garth once, another time would just be a SNL skit.
I'd like to see Clay sing "Only the Good Die Young", please let him change up a bit tonight.

"The Actual List"
Posted by Bebo on 04-15-03 at 11:52 PM
>Who sang what?

Kim C. - Still Rock & Roll To Me
Ruben - Just the Way You Are
Kim L. - New York State of Mind
Carmen - And So It Goes
Joshua - Piano Man (no, I am not kidding)
Trenyce - Baby Grand
Clay - Tell Her About It

Our gang called a few of them. Unfortunately, Katem was wrong, and someone did indeed sing Piano Man. Even worse, it was the Rhinestone Marine.

I am hugely dissappointed with the way this show turned out. No really "awesome" performances, and a lot of dissappointments. Both Josh and Carmen butchered their songs.
