"Filler"

I keep seeing messages where people say they are "adding filler" and I was wondering what the is the point? Is there a forum rule or something against posting too many short messages?

have you seen this in the spoiler forums for the amazing race and survivor?

If so they are posting spoiler info that some people might not want to accidently see.

For example there is a fanatics love list in the survivorfanatic forum, but if there are West Coasters reading the boards when the show is over on the east coast they don't want it spoiled.

So someone might add filler so when you read the topics you dont' know who was eliminated or whatever...

To expand on iE's explanation... the first few lines of your post appear on the topic listing page (where you see the list of the 25 most recent messages).

In our spoilers/speculation forums, there are generally two groups of people. The "spoil at all costs" crowd which wishes to know what will happen in future episodes at all costs... and the "speculation" crowd, which wishes to work with clues and hints left by the producers to attempt to determine the future of the show.

Out of respect to those of our members who prefer to speculate about the outcome of a show, we usually add filler at the start of posts that contain verified spoilers, so that people will not "accidentally" see the spoiler before clicking on the topic. That way only people that wish to actually have the show spoiled for them will know the outcome in advance, and those that wish to preserve the suspense of the show can wait and watch the results on television.

You never know what might be up my sleeeve...
