"Episode summaries for Winter '05 reality shows"

Posted by SurvivorBlows on 12-28-04 at 10:39 PM
LAST EDITED ON 12-29-04 AT 08:59 PM (EST)

Hi folks, as some of you may have already noticed, we've just posted episode summary writer sign-up threads for the Winter '05 RETURNING shows for which we normally do episode summaries (The Bachelorette, The Apprentice, The Simple Life.) The lone exception is Survivor, which we're holding off on until we get some definitive premiere news from CBS (personally I'm extremely skeptical that CBS will enter the February sweeps period without Survivor: Palau, but we'll see.)

That leaves all the BRAND-NEW shows that will be premiering this winter, plus the oddball returning shows that for whatever reason, have never previously had strong summary interest.

Similar to the posting I did with Summer '04 and Fall '04 reality shows, the point of this posting is to find out if there is any interest in writing summaries for any of these new shows, and if so, what is the extent of that interst.

(By "extent of interest" I mean how many episodes are you interested in writing? One episode only? Tag-teaming with someone else and doing the whole run like Fester/Silvergirl did on Last Comic Standing, MTW/Estee did on Outback Jack, Swami/I_AM_HE did on Mad Mad House, or Swami/Schnookie Palookie did on Cupid? Taking on a whole show like Isabelle did for Top Model 2 and 3??)

Below is a listing of every upcoming show of which I'm aware, its premiere date, and broadcast network. Shows in BOLD are returning shows that link to an already posted show sign-up thread.

As a reminder, while all our summary writing is on a volunteer basis, etc. reliablity, timeliness (or at least status communication) is important, and while we can't offer anyone any $$$, we do occasionally partner with companies to promote stuff and, if we can, I do try and pass some of the goodies. Beyond that, all we can offer is the appreciation of others and a chance for massive DAW-dom (which is probably what you are all really after anyways)

January 03 - Fox - Who's Your Daddy?
January 05 - NBC - Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search
January 05 - UPN - The Road To Stardom With Missy Elliott
January 06 - CBS - Wickedly Perfect
January 08 - CBS - The Will
January 09 - VH1 - The Surreal Life 4
January 09 - VH1 - Strange Love
January 09 - VH1 - Celebrity Fit Club
January 10 - ABC - The Bachelorette 3
January 10 - GSN - American Dream Derby
January 10 - A&E - Caesars 24/7
January 10 - A&E - Growing Up Gotti
January 12 - Brv - Queer Eye for the Straight GIRL
January 16 - Fox - My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss (hiatus ends)
January 17 - ABC - Supernanny
January 17 - MTV - The Osbournes
January 18 - Fox - American Idol 4
January 20 - NBC - The Apprentice 3
January 26 - Fox - The Simple Life 3

February 01 - ETV - Gastineau Girls

I'll summarize any or all episodes of this show, which I think will be mildly interesting. The only hitch is that I may be entering a busy period about then, which may cause the summaries to possibly be a couple of days late. But I'll do my best to give these media whores the treatment they deserve.

P.S. In case you guys need a tiebreaker (yeah, that's a laugh ), I did several summaries for "Beg, Borrow & Deal".

All right. Since I don't have a TBS entry this time and I haven't been able to hurt myself enough to get the idea out of my head, I'd like to claim the first-and-only episode of Who's your daddy?, 'cause I can't go any lower than that. Ever.

I could probably stand to do one Wickedly Perfect, and I'd be willing to tag-team on The Will. I've also thrown my name into Donald's hair again.

You know... tag-teaming with Estee on The Will sounds like fun, count me in on that one.

That show could be very interesting!

I'm also on the list for The Apprentice.

I'm up for tag teaming with someone...Wickedly perfect sounds like fun, but really I'm open for anything. My summary skills are getting rusty.

Edited to add-I'm up for tag teaming with ARnutz for the Apprentice.

Hi BEG! I think you misunderstood my post... I offered to tag-team "The Will".

The Apprentice has it own sign-up thread (see Webby's post above). There wasn't tag-teaming there last season.

I'm interested in AI4, but are we going to summarize the auditions and semi-final episodes or will we only start the summaries when we're down to the final 12 contestants? Either way, I'll take one episode of it. I'm also interested in Wickedly Perfect, but I don't know if I'll watch all of it. Still, I could probably maintain interest through the first couple of episodes.

I am interested in writing summaries for The Will, Wickedly Perfect and Queer Eye for the Straight Girl (this looks to be good!)

Also, I had not thought about it but Jessica could give us some great summary material. Being the MTV whore that I am, put my name in the hat for the Newlyweds. Maybe tag-teaming?

"AI 4 writers"
Posted by Bebo on 12-31-04 at 12:21 PM
Folks have been expressing some interest in the AI forum. There's also a question on whether we would be summarizing the early stuff or just wait until the actual competition starts.

http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID44/1145.shtml

Here's the list so far:

- Devious Weasel
- aliciabbrown
- strid333
- Drive My Car
- Spidey
- anotherkim
- Starry Luna
- PhoenixMons

You know the difference between you and me? I make this look good.

Posted by PhoenixMons on 01-10-05 at 02:51 PM
Originally I was open to any date, but I am going to be home with the 'rents for the first four weeks of idol (without 'net access, most likely). I think that would mean two 'city audition' weeks and then two weeks of final cuts/wild cards...

Just wanted to make sure that if there's any episode writing in that time frame (through Feb 12th), then I won't be able to do any of those weeks.

"Proposed Week 1 schedule"

LAST EDITED ON 01-03-05 AT 12:53 PM (EST)

Thanks to everyone for their interest. OK, since there are only a few reality shows starting this week and I'm expecting that several folks interested writing have been offline, etc. and unable to express their interest so far, based on the postings so far I'd like to suggest the following schedule for this week's new shows:

- January 03 - Fox - Who's Your Daddy? - Estee

- January 05 - NBC - Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search - TeamJoisey (with Bebo on next week's Ep 2)

- January 06 - CBS - Wickedly Perfect - buckeyegirl (with volsfan on next week's Ep 2, unless that conflicts with your Real World week)

- January 08 - CBS - The Will - ARnutz (with Estee on next week's Ep 2... and then tag-teaming back to Estee and so on)

Also, since realitybites wants to do the whole run of American Dream Derby and I don't see anyone else racing (ha, bad pun!) to sign up, I'll mark that down for you (it's eight episodes realitybites -- pace yourself... ha, another bad pun)

Please confirm whether the above assignments work for you.

Thanks,
SB

Oh SB, you're such a kidder. You should be on the next edition of "Last Comic Standing" - dit, boom, crash.

I'll do the entire run of "American Dream Derby". Should be fun. No need to set up a forum for it. Indeed, one thread may be all we're going to need.

"RE: Proposed Week 1 schedule"

Since my FOX affiliate isn't the one that pulled the thing off the air, I'll tape Who's your daddy? tonight and try to get a summary up in the next few days. I'm losing a lot of time to eBay work right now, so a next-day posting probably won't happen unless I can write a really short one. And consider who just posted that sentence.

If no one screams in protest, I accept the tag-team assignment for The Will. Webby, any idea how many episodes that's scheduled to run? I'd like to know which of us is getting the finale, not to mention the total duration of suffering.

Thanks everyone. The Will's pain is tiny -- only six episodes. And it airs on Saturday nights from the beginning, so ratings expectations are already next to nothing so as long as three or four people watch, CBS will probably keep it on the air. Bebo's the poor girl who lives in the city where Capital Broadcasting keeps preventing her from watching all of Fox's and CBS's trashiest programming. I still don't get how Paradise Hotel ever aired in that town

Oh, it just means I have a few less crap options for each week. As your list of shows above demonstrates, I still have plenty of options.

Oh, God. Did Station Manager Buford give me Kool-Aid?

I've seen only one person sign up for the contendor so far, i would also like to sign up for that show.

I was won of the whole 7 people that watched the next great champ, and as i understand it, that was a complete rip off of the contendor so...

>That Survivor 10 starts on Feb.
>3rd??? Posted over in Spoilers

I haven't seen the spoilers posting yet, but a couple of weeks ago (when CBS was only giving "no comment" responds to all media requests about what Wickedly Perfect's Thursday time period meant for Survivor's return) I was joked with the CBS PR person that no one believed there was any chance that Survivor wasn't going to be back in time for the February Sweeps (which happens to start Feb. 3) so despite some sloppy reporting from some of the big media outlets saying that a March delay was a sure thing, that's the date that I've been expecting for weeks now.

Personally I'd been figuring that after 4 Thursday broadcasts, Wickedly Perfect was going to move into the Amazing Race's slot, but now that TAR unexpectedly aired a recap episode, I;m not sure TAR will be done in time.

I don't see one either, and I think I saw a commercial that said it premiers Monday?

Scanning this thread, I only see KO, ssshaw, and Karragh expressing interest in writing for the show. I also had noted some interest in the last sign up thread, and since it looks like you could still use me, I'm up for an episode (probably no more than one, as I have a Survivor and a TAR summary scheduled for the last week of March and sometime in April, but we'll see). I'll go ahead and be running the VCR on Monday just in case it doesn't get scheduled, but if KO or someone else wants it, or you've already scheduled it, or intend to, that's great too. Consider me the unofficial contigency plan with a willingness to become Plan A if necessary; just want to make sure it gets covered

gotcha boss! coupla questions: do i post it in this forum? not sure if this show has enough interest/discussion possibility to warrant its own forum, which sort of leads me to my next question, which doesn't really have any bearing on me or my summary (unless the answer is long enough that, if I don't completely hate the show, I might be able to fill in for a second episode later in the run): how many episodes is the show supposed to be?

Plan to post summaries here in Other Shows.

The show runs through May - the finale is a live bout scheduled on 5/24.

If you're interested in writing for The Contender and haven't already spoken up, please do so now so we can schedule the summaries. Thanks.

LAST EDITED ON 02-27-05 AT 09:44 PM (EST)

Throw me into the mix for The Contender! I don't have any conflicts that I am aware of. THANKS!

ETA: I can prolly do more than one episode once my Real World summaries expire. Hopefully it will be within the next 3-4 weeks.

I'm up for one or two if you still need. Not the week with 3/31 though (I have an Apprentice one then).

FYI: I just noticed there is now a Contender forum on RTVW.

I'll post the summary schedule thread over there, including a list of interested writers.
