"Australian Idol - another No1 artist for Diane Warren"

Posted by rockugoodthing on 08-15-04 at 07:36 PM
Cosima De Vito has entered the Australian Charts today at Number 1 with her debut single, which has also gone Gold.

The single is a Double A release featuring “When the War is Over” (a song Cosima sang on Idol) and the Diane Warren penned “One Night Without You” (which will also be on Cosima's first album).

Cosima finished third in the first series of Australian Idol, and her debut at Number 1 means that the top 4 placegetters in Oz Idol have all had their first single releases go to the top of the chart, with Oz Idol winner (Guy Sebastian), Runner-up (Shannon Noll) and Cosima all making their debut in the No1 position.

Some of you may recall that Cosima pulled out of Australian Idol after making the top 3 when she was diagnosed with small (but thankfully soft and now gone) vocal nodules (short history here: http://www.geocities.com/johntravelid/cosima/

Following Oz idol Cosima was not signed to any major Australian record label, but she started her own company CDV Records http://www.cosima.net.au/ . It has been reported that Cosima’s number 1/Gold debut is a first for an independent artist in Australia.

Cosima has recently returned to Australia from the USA where she recorded her first album, due for Australian release in October. All the tracks on the album are written by Diane Warren who was also Executive Producer.

In other Australian Idol news, 4th place finisher Paulini has had success with both her first single and album going to Number 1 and the new series of Australian Idol is up to the semi-final stage (2nd group were on last night). Anyone needing an Idol fix can check out the Oz idol site at:

I promised myself that I would get caught up in this years series and wouldn't vote (which we have to pay for here), but of course I have weakened already lol.

PS. Fantasia’s “I believe” got to number 4 on the Australian Chart.
