I'm hoping so. Gotta kill the Jonathan-wannabe before he becomes Jonathan.

That would be lovely! Somehow it feels as if he'll be around longer... ugh!

Look how bad we wanted Jon/Vic gone last season, and how long we ended up haveing to see them.

These two will be around for a while I bet.

On a bus 400 miles to Arequipa then find a shoe shine shop for their next clue.

Rob asks locals whether the 6:20 bus arrives first. He's told it makes many stops and the 7:00 bus makes one stop and arrives sooner.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "

Romber asked some of the locals which train arrives first and found the one that leaves an hour later...gets there an hour ealier! Great job!

Rob is sharing the bus information with Ray and said he paid the local not to tell anyone else that the 'Flores' bus arrives earlier.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by kathliam on 03-08-05 at 09:09 PM
Uh-oh, Rob's busted. The guard tells Lynn and Alex that Rob told him not to talk to anyone else, so everyone is getting on the same bus.

Bunching will eradicate most of the time advantages, but for those who want to know, here are the departure times:

1.) Debbie/Bianca 10:54 p.m.
2.) Susan/Patrick 11:05
3.) Rob/Amber 11:09
4.) Brian/Greg 11:59
5.) Lynn/Alex 12:00 a.m.
6.) Meredith/Gretchen 12:24
7.) Ray/Deanna 12:41
8.) Uchenna/Joyce 12:47
9.) Megan/Heidi 12:55
10.) Ron/Kelly 12:58

*snort* Rob is bribing the bus driver to only open the front door, a group of teams chipped in to bribe the driver, except Rob put his money back in his pocket.

His Survivor training is paying off. Lie. Cheat. All's fair if it gets you to the finish line first.

(Not sure I like this sneaky sabotage of others, but it may grow on me.)

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

The more energy the other teams expend hating Romber, the less time they spend paying attention to their own games. Thus giving Romber the very advantage they wish to take from them. They need to get over it.

"RE: Yep!"

I hated Rawb the both seasons he was on Survivor. But for some odd reason I am liking him on TAR really better than I had imagined! I was cracking up at those idiots in the back of the bus complaining to the driver to open the door! HEHEHEHEHE!

I saw that! Its gotta be the worst shoe shine Ive ever seen. Nice how Joyce is just standing on a corner hoping people are going to come to her, isnt it?

I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes, several days attack me at once.

Order of Completion:

1.) Ron/Kelly

Two flights of five teams each, 45 minutes apart.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by volsfan on 03-08-05 at 09:22 PM
Ok...all teams just sat at the airport all day. They left the pit stop at night...did the shoe shine first thing in the morning...left on the flight at night!

No, there is no bunching this leg! None at all!

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by FFantasyFX on 03-08-05 at 09:28 PM
Actually, not upset by the bunching so far. There really wasn't anything producers could do to avoid the bunching at the beginning of the episode. The shoe shine at least kept teams seperated into two different groups. I see the point you're making, but strategically there has only been one bunching point. I can live with the current level of bunching - as long as it doesn't get worse.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by volsfan on 03-08-05 at 09:35 PM
I am frustrated that all the teams obviously spent all day at the airport doing absolutely nothing. Could they not find another task than shinning shoes that would have taken a little longer time?

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by FFantasyFX on 03-08-05 at 09:42 PM
Mmmmmmm . . . valid concern. Given how much they are trying to cram into this episode, I really find it difficult to see how they could have added another task though, or even a longer task. I wish this show was two hours every week; that solution would definitely solve some problems.

Go to a restaurant, get a recipe and buy the 5 ingredients...

Or go 2 miles to a bookstore and schlep a pile of books...somewhere, I missed that.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "

Wondering the same thing. It's not like they were giving any of their money to Romber to bribe the locals or anything.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "

So far, the teams are choosing schlepping!

Susan & Patrick are out of pesos and can not get on the funicular!

Susan and Patrick are out of money. They have to beg.

They have to toe 180 books to the Library of Congress.

"RE: TAR7 EP2 East Coast Update Thread "
Posted by FFantasyFX on 03-08-05 at 09:34 PM
The primary difficulty of the task seems to be finding the target destination. I'll be interested to see how Gretchen/Meredith do at the market. Might be the better option.

Only Rob/Amber have found the library. Oops, Ron/Kelly just arrived as well. Ray/Deana still MIA.

Woohoo...go Rob and Amber. I'm really loving them this go-round.

Interesting though that the pit stop comes so early in the show this go round.

ETA: Rob and Amber came in first place.
Side wtf? What happened to Ambers boobs...didn't she have some on survivor.

They win a trip to Atlantis at Paradise Island. I've been there and it's awesome.

Its probably because Romber have such a big lead. Will be interesting to see the start times of the next leg.

"Library of Congress"

Romber are first to deliver their books. They pass Ron and Kelly. Kelly tells Ron he'll have to count.

Romber receive their clue and their off to the next point. Ron and Kelly had to go back to get more books.

OMH. Already? Rob and Amber are at the pit stop. They receive trip to the Bahamas.

"Money Problems? "

Susan/Patrick simply didn't have the correct currency. But now Meredith and Gretchen don't have enough funds to buy the items at the marketplace? What the heck have these teams been spending their money on? Four-star restaurants?

"There had to be..."

something edited out that they had to spend money on. They got a pretty good amount to start this leg.

"RE: There had to be..."
Posted by Loree on 03-08-05 at 09:43 PM
I wonder if they are tipping their drivers too much? They don't understand the money and they are being ripped off? Who knows?

"RE: There had to be..."
Posted by clemsonbeav on 03-08-05 at 11:59 PM
Yeah...they took a taxi from the airport to Cerro San Cristobal, where the Virgin is. This is a VERY long drive, and I'm sure it cost a fortune. (I mean if they would have taken the bus for $2 and a metro ride for 50 cents, then it's only be a short taxi drive. But they didn't know that. ) And add this to currency conversions (8.000 pesos is not $10...more like $15), the $100 customs fee, and the 10 hour bus ride, and you've got a lot of money spent.

The vendors are giving Lynn and Alex produce for free? Wonder why. Susan and Patrick are begging for money outside the market.

Meredith and Gretchen's fish isn't the correct weight and they have to go back and exchange it.

Lynn and Alex's fish isn't correct either.

Both Meredith/Gretchen & Lynn/Alex are sent back when their fish is not the correct task. Lots of confusion. Brian/Greg were quite smart to do the book task. I think Megan/Heidi are going home tonight.

Hah! After my error last week, I put in the time and effort necessary to tell the two teams apart . . . all in vain it seems.

Still, very glad that Brian/Greg are still in the race - they provide some good comic relief. But between the cab this week and the bike's flat tire next week, they seem cursed. Interesting to see an alpha male team struggle.

The guy is an utter moron. He makes enemies as natuarally as breathing (would to God he could stop that too). Every single Yield that lands his happyass on the Do Not Pass Go mat will be well-deserved.

Oh puhleeze, HE. Those jealous, whiney, babies hated them from before the race started.

Moron? Hardly. More like brilliant.

how the hell is it brilliant to piss people off completely unnecessarily? he is a moron. period.

ETA they'd be good racers, if Rob wasn't doing his damdest to make them good racers DESPITE - NOT because of - his chronic asininity. again, if those "jealous losers" yield them, Rob will have brought it on his own head (a head STILL emblazoned with "STUPID"). As I said in ASS, Rawb has proven himself completely incapable of change, and if his tactics get him farther or not, that doesn't make his gameplay any better. As L/A said, he's lucky that in TAR they can't vote him off, so his burnt-earth idiocy does have a .01% chance of success here (unlike the .00% on Survivor). but they CAN yield him, and they're well within their rights to do so, whether you want to call that jealousy or whatever else.

I couldn't disagree more, and like one of the loser babies said, you don't vote people off on this show. Look, they all were jealous of Romber from the get go, it's obvious. I'm sure they're dreaming of using that wimpy yield to stop them, but it's going to be hard to do if Romber is in the lead.

They're running a smart, clean, entertaining race so far. If whining, disorganized, jealous losers are more your style...*shrugs*

I love them - well, him mostly (I'm mostly indifferent to her, since not much personality there to love or hate). There's really not much anyone can do to knock other teams out, and the other teams will just screw themseves by obsessing over them.

And it's obvious that a huge part of the reason people think he's stupid is the accent. Regional accents, no matter what part of the country you're from, will do that.

obvious? you know what they say about assuming, don't you? except for the me part.

maybe some of us just don't find angering whiny, jealous, stupid babies to the point where they might get whiny, jealous, and stupid at you to be all that intelligent? nah, i'm sure it's just because we stereotype people because of accent. whatever.

I also disagree that "obsessing" over Romber - even to the degree to which it is being overblow here - harms those teams in the least, no matter how it comforts Rob fanbots to say. Certainly less than that obsessing will hurt Romber should their actions be met with a yield. This is, afterall, a race, and shouldn't they be trying to beat Romber anyway? Or maybe that's the problem? They should just let them win?

Amber still seems Amberbot to me. Rob is more in his element in TAR than he ever was in Survivor.

"Disagree"
Posted by FFantasyFX on 03-09-05 at 00:32 AM
I'm going to have to disagree here. I didn't see any decisions today that unneccessarily alienated other teams. Both the stunt at the bus station and the busdriver bribe had very real reprecussions that would have gave/gave Rob and his allies tangible time gained. Had the other teams not enquired about the bus schedule, Rob/Amber would have been assured a ticket on the first plane. The bus door ploy gained Rob and his allies (Uchenna/Joyce, Ray/Deana) only a few minutes, but those minutes probably were crucial in the shoe shining challenges.

You certainly have a point about the Yield, but I think Rob/Amber were already targeted. I do think it's significant that Rob is trying to cultivate allies.

I do believe that many people are overhyping any possible obsession other teams have with Romber. We've only have a few offhand comments from Debbie/Bianca & Patrick/Susan so far. If teams do end up focusing on knocking Romber out of the race foremost rather than ensuring their own position, they will most likely not fare well. The anti-twin alliance became so focused on Derek & Drew that they knocked themselves out of the running.

"RE: Disagree"
Posted by I_AM_HE on 03-09-05 at 00:47 AM
Well argued, and somewhat valid points, but...

If the other teams hadn't enquired about the bus schedule, Rob would have been guaranteed the first flight regardless of if he tried to buy the guard off. That's unnecessary. Why is it not only a brilliant move for Rob to attempt this, but also not a bad one for it to backfire, and not a brilliant move for the other teams to find him out? Would it not have been a bad move for the other teams NOT to have checked out other options? Seems for some here, the only valid move for the other 10 teams is to let Rob win, and if they check his underhanded moves, they're whiny loser babies.

The bus door ploy was fine and legal, if dirty - compounded by the fact that he basically stole from the other teams by holding back his portion of the bribe.

I'll concede the cultivating allies bit, but with reservation. Let's see how long he can keep those allies. Rob certainly seems to have the deep character flaw that he can't help stupidly backstabbing people, and I don't expect anything else. He's shown in the past taht he's completely incapable of change. He plays the same burnt-earth strategy that is doomed to failure over and over again. Any change of results is not a statement on HIS gameplay, but on those around him.

If you must know, I was referring to everyone who thinks they're stupid, the majority of whom are contestants on the show. But I admire you for defending their honor. And if you honestly think that that's not what they're doing, or what the majority of people do in general, then all I can say is you are quite naive.

And the fact that it's a race is exactly the point. They all should be trying to win regardless of whether they like the other teams. The point is that hating Rob and Amber and trying to make them lose is simply very unlikely to work. The only thing it can do is make them lose their own focus. And as true pointed out, the other teams already were fully intent on trying to knock them out before the race ever started. So what difference does it make if they do things that make them dislike them even more?

"Fanbots"? Lovely.

Gotta love how Rob plays for camera time. I agree, he's running a smart race so far. His ego may still be his own worse enemy, though. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm not arguing that people don't judge people by the way they speak to some extent. I'm arguing that Rob's already made it unnecessary to judge him purely by his accent. To pretend that there's not already a vast body of actions to judge by, and that people aren't doing that, is, IMO, naive.

I guess I don't understand how, if beating the other teams is supposed to be their focus anyway, how trying to beat Rob and Amber makes them lose their focus. That dog don't hunt for me.

As for what difference? None. That's exactly the point. If they tried to disabuse people of their misconceptions (or of the reality, as is more likely the case), it just might make a difference. In this regard, FF has a valid point about cultivating allies, but given Rob's track record, I again think skepticism in his ability to keep those allies - when HE can't just vote them out, either, when they've "outlived their usefulness", btw - is called for.

I know I stated lastnight that I was liking Rob/Amber on TAR but I agree with you HE.

Romber have almost guaranteed the fact that they will be yielded if they stay in the race. Whether teams came into the game "loser, whiney babies" is irrelevant here. Rob has already done enough in the game to put the HUGE target on his back.

"On a technicality"
Posted by Surveysez on 03-08-05 at 10:41 PM
Rob did not tell the guard not to tell the others, he paid the guard not to tell the others. So in a kechnical way, he didn't quite lie. It's just that he was stupid enough to share the info with ANYONE else.

I can't bring my self to like him, but I am enjoying seeing anyone play the race differently for a change.

BEST.RACER.EVER.

If the guy remains steady, he'll be unbeatable. Hopefully, they won't get eliminated by a bunch of jealous haters and that stoopid yield.

It's clear that Rob has studied this show. He asks all the right questions, remains calm, and smokes the frenzied competition.

The dominance Romber has shown in these first two legs blows me away. I hope they can keep it up, cause they are (so far) the most entertaining racers since Kevin and Drew.

Agreed. I also think that being on two reality shows before with cameras on them and money at stake definitely helps for the calmness and asking all of the right questions. Nervousness and inexperience breed mistakes and missteps. He should go very far. Didn't see any comments on the way he stacked the books. What a coupe! They must be an hour ahead!

Stacking the books, and telling Amber to grab all books that were alike, smart. Picking the challenge that best fit his knowledge was the key, really.

I'm so happy that they finally have some "real" people on the show again. Not as diverse as I'd like, but a heck of a lot better than the last 2.

Loving Romber when I thought I would hate them. It's really refreshing to see someone play the game. I was really impressed with Rob's Spanish. He did good.

Best part is how great he and Amber are getting along. I don't care if they win...just as long as they continue to play the way they do and hopefully put a fire under the other teams.

I agree. So far I like the way they are playing. And playing to the camera just comes naturally for them. I hope they stay in the game for a long time. They are entertaining and it's nice to see a couple get along so well.

1) WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHILE!!!

2) WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They're still going to be in Chile next time!

I've definitely eaten at that restaurante Donde Augusto in the Mercado Central.

"Also"

That building that they kept zooming in on that supposedly was the Library of Congress? Definitely NOT it. I've paused my VCR several times. Definitely the Supreme Court building, like I said in the other thresd.

Goof.

(Also, another goof...when Phil is showing the sequence making thier way to the pitstop...the cab with the camera that is headed towards the pitstop is actually going away from it. *head slap* Rather, it's headed towards my house. )

And traffic? Was NOT bad at ALL! They were on the main street of Santiago (the road I lived on, nonetheless!) in the main Plaza. It's November. It's summer. Nobody was there! They woulda had a stroke come March or April!

After all the teams bought their fish, they all looked for Chico Lobo/Lolo (whatever) to buy the other ingredients. That must have been written on the recipe because how else would they know to go there.

Lynn & Alex did not however. They scrounged free vegetables from other vendors. Wonder if this will cost them.

It appears they are still in Chile. They are in the heart of the Andes, on an old railway, near a river. It appears to be on the highway to Mendoza, Argentina. Will investigate later. Note that railways there are few and far between nowadays.
