Kinda makes you look back fondly on Rosie O'Donnell's Survivor finale. I mean seriously, if you couldn't ask any decent questions AT LEAST put a decent mic on these people so we can hear their responses.

Laird, less is more. You are already nads down one of the creepiest people on tv. Let the contestants talk a little so we can slowly forget that you are even there. Who decided that the host of this show should be an unholy cross between Rod Serling and John Wayne Gacy, anyway?

How about watching a Jeff Probst run reunion show sometime before the end of next (here's hopin') season?

Sheesh! That was some bad television.

Loved the show, but the finale? BLech!

If you provide the chains, I'll make sure he gets locked away somewhere that you will never see him again.

Wow, I could never be on your team cause I just don't see it. I would think that rather than chains you would want a ballgag.

But, the four of us had a great time.

Listen closely to instructions: I said you provide the chains. That doesn't mean that I don't already have a special ballgag, complete with Motorola logo, waiting for Laird.

What a great idea. Then they could look for him on next year's show.

He'll be the 'treasure beyond their imagination'?
This'd only be true if 'beyond their imagination' means 'only in their nightmares'.

The most disappointing thing to me was the viewer search for the $100,000. It was way too easy. Completing those internet tasks online was harder than the search. It must have taken an hour tops. They should've made 'em sleep in tents overnight at least.

And the geniuses won! Even if Air Force *sigh* deserved to win more, they definately needed it most--med school costs a lot of money.

I was surprised by the prize. I figured it would be $1 million at the most. But three was awesome.

My goodness, I used lots of italics in this post.

It turns out the the the prize money is in the form of an annuity, so if they decide to take it as a lump sum, each would end up getting about 200,000 after taxes.

NBC hasn't announced the lump sum ammount, but given that the lump sum on For Love Or Money's 40-year $1,000,000 prize was later confirmed to be $465k (pre-taxes), each of the geniuses are going to end up with more than $200k after taxes.

Even if they only got the same $465k gross as Erin Brodie got (which they should get more, given their prize is payable over 15 fewer years than hers, but it all depends on the rate they use), the taxes on $465k would not total more than half the lump sum amount.

I agree. I lost interest the minute the smarty boys won. I looked at the clock and wondered what they were going to do to fill up the hour.

And why was the audience suppose to care about some complete strangers running around in circles looking for clues to win money. We had never seen these people before.

Normally I wish that finales would be longer so I can hear what has happened and see reactions. This time it was the opposite. Why didn't they just put me out of my misery last week and let the smarty boys win in the last minute of the show.

I'll agree... wow, that was a spectacular disaster for the 40 minutes or so of the live finale. I'm sure it rankled some of the other teams that these ten loozers got to win $10K and had a chance to win $100K, while the contestants travelled all over the country and slogged through mud and ice to come up empty-handed. Note that they didn't try to make any distinction between second place or third place after the Genii won, so it leads me to believe that all of the runner-up teams got about the same amount of peanuts tossed their way.

Treasure Hunters has enormous potential to be a really great show but it's mind-boggling to see how much it was screwed up. Why, for the life of me, didn't they try to hype up the treasure more? Three million dollars worth of gold really should have been hyped up as that would have been really attention-grabbing.

The editing of the show was pretty lousy as well, a little more tweaking of the editing, the show would have been really dynamite.

Pepe, I didn't think of that but you are right. 1 hour to win $100 000 while those other teams spend at least weeks and got probably much less? It would be infuriating.

The only good moments of the "finally" were to see Brooke pregnant, hear her say "The robots are re-creating" and the wild Hanlons' quote: "We weren't fogaled because we were too busy fogaling ourselves". 40 boring minutes for 2 lines!

Laird's final words of "Thank you and Good night" didn't sound encouraging to those who want a season #2.

I'd be shocked if there was a second season -- the ratings were pretty bad (andgiven the horrible editing and host, they frankly deserved to be.)

But then again, I was also pretty surprised when CBS announced that it was bringing Rock Star back for a second season.

But unfortunately for Treasure Hunters fans, I don't think Treasure Hunters has a Rock Stars-like Mark Burnett type behind it (although CBS and Burnett won't say anything, many folks think -- similar to how CBS's desire to keep Jerry "CSI" Bruckheimer happy is believed to have helped The Amazing Race keep getting renewed -- CBS's desire to maintain a good relationship with Burnett, who had basically become a hired hand on Survivor and was establishing closer ties with NBC and Fox, was part of the reason Rock Star was renewed.)

Bossy and stiff worked (kinda) during the show since he was always on the camera phone anyway. Added a sort of robotic quality that could have worked.

In person? Awful.

But, the four of us had a great time.

Did they really show us scenes we hadn't seen before?

He cut off people when asking them a question....they didn't allow for educated answer.

I would have liked to have seen more about the gals who carried their team member and their canoe, more than the Fogals.

At least there was one weak attempt to slam Katie Fogals squealing...

I think that was my biggest disappointment of this whole series. Having determined competitors is one of the biggest problems in reality TV, be it Survivor, TAR or this. So many wannabee actors and models or fun-seekers. Here you had a team determined enough to carry 1 member and a canoe for a mile then carry her to the end and have her endure on crutches and you DQ them even if they finished ahead of 2 teams. THE NEXT EPISODE offered all teams a decision to continue with 2 racers. WHY NOT KEEP that team at 2? Give them a 3 hour penalty at the swamp to be fair, but keep them! No, bring the Brownies back instead. STUPID, STUPID!

I think your memory of the show is significantly flawed -- there's plenty of things to bash the producers about, but their handling of the Grad Students team's injury really isn't one of them.

The Grad Student girls weren't "disqualified" by the producers -- before it was time for the Episode 3 leg to begin, they decided to quit. Their decision to quit resulted in the Browns -- the team "eliminated" at the end of Episode 2 -- coming back for Episode 3. And the "leave one member behind" option only came at the end of Episode 4 (after Episode 3's leg ended with the Hanlons being eliminated on a Boston Harbor island), not in Episode 3.

But even if things had played out as you incorrectly remember, what would you have proposed the producers do, tell the girls that they might want to reconsider their decision because halfway through the next leg all the teams were going to have the surprise chance to dump a team member? Sharing secret information about the upcoming game would be fair? Plus, if I remember right, when they quit, the other two uninjured girls even commented that they had no interest in continuing in the competition if they couldn't compete all together.

Sorry, you're right but it wasn't only my memory that was flawed. In Canada we saw episode #4 before #3 and that partly confused me. Talk about a screw-up!

They wouldn't have had to tell them before hand, just that they could go on as a team of 2 but a penalty would happen at one point on the course. I am making an assumption in that they quit because they weren't offered to go ahead at 2. Not offering it is equivalent in result if not in law as disqualifying them: When they saw their friend couldn't continue and didn't want to make her feel worse, they said they didn't want to go on. Nothing happened in leg #3 that a team of 2 would have been advantaged, only 1 less person to figure out the clues. Leg #4 would have advantaged a team of 2 thus the need for a penalty that could have been MotoroLaird on the spot not beforehand.

Edited to clarify: I wasn't saying the producers treatment did something bad, rather they didn't do anything positive. As long as it was fair to the others and since the Grads did come ahead of two teams, it would have been a good move to keep them (just as a football team can play with 10 men on the field if they want!) It wasn't any more by the rules to bring back the Browns.

Aside from TAR I don't really watch RTV shows, but I have seen some of the other end shows with interviews. and this was the worse ever.

The players should have been coached on what to talk about, and the host needed to keep his mouth shut more and let them talk more about thier experences.

I liked the idea of the extra treasure hunt, but even it was poorly presented.

Like the latest TARs an extra short contest for the two runner up teams would nice.

And YES! Telling people it was for THREE MILLION in Gold from the start would have been a big plus.

See my post #15 above. The prize money is in the form of an annuity. I'm wondering if they decided not to play up the amount of the prize during the season in case someone found out about the annuity and possibly causing a negative reaction from the viewers.

Yes sirrie! This was the worst finale I have ever watched! UGH! The host was just horrible and kept yelling at people and stuff. And who in the world was running audio last night? It's not too difficult to have all the microphones labeled so that you can have the correct mics on at the correct time. If that's too hard, that person shouldn't have been running it.

I am sadly upset that the geeks won. In the first task they were the last bus to get to Mt Rushmore because they were too dumb to realize where to go and in the end they won? What a pathetic group of "geniuses". I hope they do not become Dr's as I wouldn't want any of them diagnosing me.

Please say there won't be a season 2.

I agree to an extent. The worst part of this show was that leg winners didn't matter. This was a show where you just had to not come in last each leg. People gripe at TAR for the bunching points, but they're more spread out. Here, everyone started every leg at the same time so the best team could have been eliminated at any point.

Would the real mogwai please stand up?

How kind of the producers to have a race aspect (first part of viewer contest) with a contestant using a wheel chair, too.
