Sorry about the misnumbering last week. So, the chickens come home to roost this week. Two deaths among featured players. And Henderson is getting away right at the same time Kim's leaving CTU. Meanwhile we have yet another doofus being given control of CTU in DHS's Karen Hayes and her power-mad subordinant.
Neither Lynn's death nor Tony's were shocking, since we knew Lynn had to redeem himself and Henderson had to kill Tony to escape. But the moment that stood out in the episode (to me) was the call that Lynn's guard made to his daughter before being exposed to the VX gas. It reminded me too much of the calls that the people who were trapped on the top floors of the World Trade Center and on the doomed planes made to their families ... and I actually found it painful to watch, even though I knew it was fictional.
Maybe I'm just losing it in my old age.

You weren't alone. I nearly cried when Jack told Lynn and the guard that they would have to die so everyone else could live. Just the absolute certainty of knowing exactly when you are going to die was a bit much for me.I didn't think too much about the Kim/Henderson angle but I definitely see that coming back at Jack in the upcoming weeks. My biggest question right now is what is the main target they're after now. It would appear to be in the LA area.

When will this madness stop? First Lynn, then Tony. Jack loses his daughter again...geez. Who will die next?

I'm with you Ayak...when the guard was talking to his little girl I was a mess. That was very hard to watch. Equally hard to watch was Jack's reaction to Tony's death. I felt worse for Jack than I did for Tony.Maybe, just maybe, Kim will finally use up her last life this season and we'll be done with her.

Did I miss the spoiler about Hendersen escaping? I would have never made all those quesses yesterday about who was going to die if I had. *shrug*Yes, that phone call was extemely hard to watch. I started humming loudly to myself to drown it out. *sob*
Please!!! Where's the petition to sign so the writers will finally write Kim's death scene? I'll sign it!

If they keep doing this, there'll be nobody left to whack.
If Chloe dies, fvck this show.

Whoa, I have really turned into a hardened bitch. I was turned off by the guy dying with Lynn. Felt too much like the unnamed ensign sent on Star Trek's away teams. And I felt the call was manipulative. A new character that we haven't been invested in being used as a plot device didn't carry that much emotional weight for me. After all, the writers used children as a heartstrings tool when the hospital was targeted when the hospital official pointed out how many infants were in the neonatal unit and that they didn't have the means to evacuate them quickly. And there were the random shots of kids in strollers at the mall when it was being targeted. Those were more effective for me, since they felt less like theatrical plot devices. The more powerful moment for me in this episode was when Jack was trying to convince Tony not to kill Henderson. When he started out with "I know how you feel", we remembered that yeah, Jack does know. It was a nice nod to the history of the show.

Well, that makes two of us, Bebo. I had the exact same reaction to the emotional manipulation they tried with a character I could not care less about. And I also liked the nod to Season 1 when Jack talked Tony out of killing Henderson.
Pretty scary that we had almost the exact same thoughts, eh?

Not scary. It just means that phrase about great minds applies to us too.

...it proves that you weren't watching the show with your elementary-school-aged kids, who had lots of questions and thoughts about the phone call.

Kim finally got it right. "Bad things happen and people die when you're around. No offense Dad, but buh-bye!"

Cynical Bitch Bebo moment #2: When she made that comment, I yelled at the TV, "Um, if you didn't want to be around bad things, then why the hell did you join CTU???" If you want to avoid bad things and dying, joining an organization fighting terrorism doesn't seem like a good career choice.

I'm with you Bebo...Kim is a first class idiot. Selfish too. The day she takes a bullet can't come too soon in my book.

The producers or whoever obviously want to bring her back since she's the only "veteran" besides Chloe who's still alive.

I heard a clip on the radio from next week- the Homeland Security minion tells Chloe he needs an empty computer station- Edgar's- and then he asks her for her keycard so he can re-configure CTU's system. Chloe says "no".

Now THAT'S the kind of writing I like. A perfectly reasonable request by a minion gets met with a reaction that the audience understands and shares. And yes, I'll be yelling at the TV too...but the good kinda yelling. The "I'm invested in this storyline" yelling, as opposed to the "what the hell are you stupid writers doing" yelling.
