"3/12 (6-7 PM) discussion thread - Ep. 13"

Jack gets to hide out in an embassy while the VP lies about Assad's involvement in the bombing to justify an attack on a foreign country. And Martha and Charles return -- with Martha living with Aaron?

Hmmm, a VP blatantly lying about a foreign country's involvement in terrorism to justify an attack. WHERE do they dream up stuff like this? Or do they just read Kos?

Jean Smart is an amazing actress. Why she did not win an Emmy last year is beyond me.

Very relieved the Russian President okayed the embassy attack because the thought of Jack taking another fall and ending up on another "slow boat to China" was depressing me.

Rick Schroeder as a bad-ass totally works. Miles seems kinda girly compared to Mike Doyle. *snicker*

Not happy about there being a leak at CTU--again. How many think they are going to blame it on Nadia, but of course it won't be her? *raises hand*

Heck, I think the real mole is Mike Doyle.

That wouldn't surprise me. New character, new subplot, and all...

Just got to watch it this morning - it's great to be up to date, but now I've gotta wait a week at a time.

Totally saw the stabbing coming when Martha was doing the kiwi. I was actually pretty convinced Logan had changed - now we may never know.

Where did I miss the mole at CTU? Was it in the preview (which I don't see) or in the show itself. We don't have a lot of high profile characters at this point - so it must boil down to Nadia or Doyle. It must be Doyle.

Also - is Logan now dead, or does he do a Jack resurrection? Can someone list for me the presidents since before David Palmer? At this point have any survived? And, over how many years have they been maimed and/or killed? Looks like being a president in 24 world is VERY dangerous.

Others with a better memory can make corrections to this list, but these are the presidents that I believe have served since "Day 1."

Day 1:
Unnamed President serving the end of his/her term during election season.

Day 2:
David Palmer
James Prescott (becomes Acting President under the 25th Amendment, twice; first when Mike Novick convinces the cabinet to declare Palmer unfit; again when Palmer injured in assassination attempt during the final minutes of the season)

Day 3:
David Palmer (near end of term since this is the day of a presidential debate)

Day 4:
John Keeler (elected after Palmer drops out of presidential race) --- killed when a stealth fighter shot down Air Force One)
Charles Logan (vice president sworn in as president)

Day 5:
Charles Logan (who is connected to the assassination of David Palmer)

Interim (Day 5 to Day 6):
Hal Gardner (vice president who presumably becomes president when Charles Logan is removed from office)

Day 6:
Wayne Palmer (recently elected, injured in assassination attempt; still in surgery when Martha Logan stabs Charles Logan)
Noah Daniels (vice president who becomes Acting President under the 25th amendment)

So, it appears in the six days of "24" that Jack has been on the job, eight people have served as president, though two of them were acting president (Daniels could still get a promotion).

At least two have been killed, with the fate of two more still uncertain.

David Palmer was running for president in Season 1, and the main plot was his assassination. Jack foiled it at the last moment.

In Season 2 David Palmer was president. The last scene in the last episode of that season was his attempted assassination.

In Season 3 David Palmer was running for re-election. There was no threat to the life of the president, but Palmer decided to quit the race in (apparently) October, after the death of his ex-wife, which would allow his opponent, John Keeler, to become president.

In Season 4 Air Force One was shot down, and Keeler was critically injured (although we didn't actually see him die). His VP, Charles Logan, became Acting President.

11:17 P.M.
CTU watches live feed of the rescue workers as they scan the crash site. The President is found alive. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief.

11:18 P.M.
Buchanan calls Vice President Logan with the good news. Since President Keeler is in critical condition, Buchanan advises Logan to invoke the 25th Amendment and assume control. Novick tells his boss that he has already prepared the Cabinet members for a vote.

Keeler formally leaves office (or dies) between seasons 4 and 5, and a new VP (Hal Gardner) is confirmed.

In Season 5 David Palmer was killed. At the end of the season, Logan's VP, Gardner, would have become president in conjunction with Logan's resignation.

In Season 6, Wayne Palmer has been elected president and has been serving for less than 3 months. An assassination attempt leave Palmer critically injured, but he's not going to fade away like Keeler. Meanwhile, ex-president Logan is stabbed by his ex-wife and is in critical condition.

Presidential body count:
1. David Palmer -- 1 full term, now dead after leaving office
2. John Keeler -- partial term, critically injured, perhaps dead
3. Charles Logan -- partial term (from Keeler), resigned from office, now critically injured
4. Hal Gardner -- partial term (from Logan), left office, still alive and well
5. Wayne Palmer -- partial term (in office), now critically injured

Just watched the ep lastnight.

I wonder what happened in Denver that has Milo so upset.

It was great to see Martha and Pierce again. But I was almost starting to feel sorry for Logan.

The timeline between Martha calling Anya and then the other phone call was hard to believe. I like when they at least try to pretend they had enough time to complete a scene. But that was impossible.

The VP is really doing a good job being nasty.

I enjoyed the ep but there was not much Jack-time on the episode.
