"'Iyanla's Closet'...on sale today"

Posted by Seabisquit on 06-10-06 at 09:17 PM
On Iyanla's Innervisions website, it states she is speaking today in Maryland, seats are $65. per person. "Iyanla's Closet" is open 2-5 pm, and she's selling her SO wardrobe from Season's 2 & 3, sizes 10 - 12 - 14. Apparently, she packed on a few pounds - must have been all those Omaha Steaks.

(No mention of where the proceeds from the sale of her clothes might end up i.e., charity, etc.)

Thanks for putting up something "new"!

Now you really have me laughing! LOL LOL LOL I went to her site to see this closet thing, and found under the PRODUCTS section she has a ton of her books and audio tapes. You can listen to samples..the one I picked was over 5 minutes long, really surprised me because I expected just a couple lines. If you haven't had enough of Iyanla on SO and want more, here it is for free. She is really into making some money on these. SO was just one big exposure for her and Rhonda. They should have gotten the rights to the name Starting Over and done a whole line of stuff there. Heck, they could hve Christie and Christina and Lisa from Florida and Jodi and others all making the stuff for them to sell. Maybe that's why they were pushing all the arts and crafts on the women this year. He he he

And no way was she a size 10-12-14. Oh wait, she wore a lot of caftans and big flowy things...they could have been a medium and still fit.

Apparently in Iyanla's Universe the sizing is very different.

LOL Bling Blong. And Iyanla has never been a 10 - 12 - or 14, on any season of SO.

No way in Heck does IV wear anything in a size 10 to 14 unless it is a pair of those God awful pointed toe witch shoes she wears. I have never seen her wear sizes anywhere near the sizes she is claiming. Heck I lost weight and am now 155 pounds 5' 9" and wear a 10. No way is her fat flopping around butt going to fit into a size 10. Her butt looks like 2 pigs fighting under a blanket when she walks around. She eveidently has the same distorted glasses that Allisham, Chrisite, Jedi Jodi and others who claim to wear one size and we all know it isn't even close to what they wear. They best get their big old heinie talking to the universe like IV tells them too. Maybe they can get a group rate if they do it together. You can bet your butt Allison and Jodi would buy anything they could to have something to hug and remind them of Iyanla who they both had crushes on IMO.

omg, she's having a garage sale? Ok. I can't make fun of the hgs anymore for selling on Ebay. Not when IY and Rhonda are also raking in the cash by association with the show. I feel like the day I saw a favorite song of mine in a Burger king commerical, sell out!!!

As of right now, for me, this show can die a quiet death. I will hold dear what I have learned from it, stop questioning methods I know worked for me and just let it go.

This is an interesting topic. My daughter likes vintage stuff - vintage as in what I wore in the 70's. The other day, she read out the dimensions of a dress from the mid-seventies on eBay. She said, "Mom, these measurements fit a size 12? That's a 6 today!" Yes, things have changed -- but not in a year, and not for Iyanla. LOL! She may have worn those sizes, back in college, LOL.

You don't think the "Great and Mighty OZ" is really going to have a personal, recently used wardrobe sold to the public with labels that say, "20, 22, & 24", do you? Haha! It's Ok, even empowering, for women like Jill, Allison, Deborah, Jodi, and Christie to wear their heft with pride - and it's an exercise in self-actualization to make a petite and busty Lisa 2 put on a bathing suit while working with a built and buff 20-something swimming coach, but Iyanla? It's just a different game where the boss is concerned.

You know how it is -- the designers have to keep the talent happy! And in this case, the talent WILL NOT wear anything with a tag larger than a 14! You want Iyanla to wear your creations on TV? Well, then you agree to a few compromises. In Iyanla's world, it's called "give and take".

Funny, but the thought of Iyanla in a bathing suit jumping in with Lisa2 or any of them is making me laugh this morning! And I needed a laugh today! So thanks, SR!

You're right about the sizing...and maybe that is why a "plus size model" is now a size 14, instead of the old 18 or 20 they used to be. Unlike the number on a weight scale, the sizing numbers are all over the place and not to be trusted. Just find something that fits right and hangs right and looks good. You can clip off the size tag if you don't like it.

Maybe the clothes she is selling are clothing the HG had to leave behind, and Andy Paige selections, oh wow... They have to do something with the leftover wardrobes from the show. Now, she would have to pay tax on the value of the wardrobe, would she not also have to pay tax on the closet sale income? Oh, she probably is writing it all off for charity, like many stars do.

I don't know if I would buy anything. I was reading up on Feng Shui, and it said not to buy used things, it could retain the kharma of the previous owner.

It would have been interesting to see the LCs do the same exercises, but they were the teachers, the "do as I say, not as I do"...or "I know who you are, I know what you need to do, I know what your problem is" all seeing seers. The more revealed after this show, the less I put any credence into it's content or cast.

Toushay said "I don't know if I would buy anything. I was reading up on Feng Shui, and it said not to buy used things, it could retain the kharma of the previous owner"...........I wonder then if the new owner or owners will suddenly have the urge to shout to the universe???????

Maybe the sizes are 10-14 but they forgot to say it took 2 of these sizes cut and sewn together to make one garment that fit Iyanla. OR, maybe a 10, a 12 AND a size 14 all equal 1 garment.

I guess, her and Jodi's perception about there weight and size must be very much alike Huh?..

I love it! What a hoot! I agree, there's no way in the world that woman was ever a 10, 12 or 14. They say the camera will put on an extra 10 pounds, and I agree with that to a certain extent, but I don't think IV's chunkiness has anything to do with the camera.

Something else I saw on the PDF: "Registrants can present one question to be considered." "Considered?" Does that mean if somebody asks a question she doesn't want to answer, she can plead the 5th and just ignore it?! Maybe she's afraid somebody will ask why she's got those phony size tags in her clothing.

I'd say that these are clothing from the past. Iyanla was not always overweight. When she was on Oprah and had her own show I don't recall her being as overweight as she was on SO. Of course she had a shaved head back then so it could have made her look thinner than the locks she has now.

>Iyanla was not always overweight.

Yep, that's true, from what I can remember. I used to watch her on her own show -- never saw her on Oprah, however -- and that's a good point. I guess I'd forgotten about her body, but I do remember the shorn head.

Of course, to be absolutely fair about the whole thing, she has gotten older, after all, and I can personally attest to being a victim of gravity with age So maybe this is clothing from her distant past, and not necessarily SO clothes.

This tells me something else, too: SO's budget is apparently so small that they don't have an actual wardrobe department and the LCs must wear their own clothing. Maybe they at least get a monetary clothing allowance? Sometimes they do wear some pretty fancy duds (excepting Dr. Stan).

Oh c'mon. Dr. Stan's purple velvet jacket and turtlenecks are pretty fancy, lol.

Just curious, as I never saw the actual description of the clothing: did it say Iyanla'a SO wardrobe just Iyanla's wardrobe?
(BTW, alaholly, I agree. Those threads of Dr. S's -- 1977 Gentlemen's Quarterly, lol. I'll bet he still has some designer jeans from the disco era that he occasionally tries to squeeze into, lol.)

Maybe it's size 10+12+14=36!

LOL petmama...or maybe she's selling each garmet by the yard i.e. size 10- 10 yards of fabric, size 12 - 12 yards of fabric, size 14 - 14 yards of fabric. This makes much more sense to me. LOL

Some of Iyanla's dresses DO look like they took 10-14 yards of fabric. Especially those billowing African print caftans.

Has Iyanla fallen on hard times already? <sniff>

She needs to just have a yard sale or get a booth at the local flea market. Just another SO DAW cashing in on their pathetic performance.

Next thing you know, she'll be hawking that babypool swamp.
