The team's divided into two groups of 4 and and each group wrote a song.

JD elected to do his own thing and wrote his own song. This led to friction and caused JD's team to lose the competition. However when Dave asked JD to do his song, the band liked it better than the others.

This week the bank selects the song for each of the singers rather than giving them a chance to choose their own song.

Jordis does a unique version of Bob Dylan's Knockin on Heaven's Door. I liked it.

The band agreed, they loved it.

i think she did well also.

but jessica, not sounding so good. but it could be just me...

I guess it's not Jordis' fault. But I like this song done by a male. It needs that type of voice. She did okay. But I wasn't as excited by it as the band was.

It was okay but Jordis's song was memorable.

i think that was her best (non-inxs song) performance by far, i got the feeling that they thought she would screw it up--because that song should be emotional, but i agree with what she said--that song had the right feel for her.

Ty sings Maggie May by Rod Stewart.

I guess it's hard to hear songs not sang by original artists.

Ty is given Rod Stewart's Maggie Mae to sing. Ty's spike is down again this week.

my son got home from a baseball game in the middle of his performance (ty is his favorite) and he said "what on earth happened to ty?"

i didn't notice anything unusual for ty--but it wasn't his best look!

See? I must get Ty all backwards or something. I really liked that performance. My second favorite of the night. It was my favorite performance of his BY FAR.

I just didn't like it. The plaid pants with the leather jacket. What was he thinking? And that tongue action. Ugh!

The tongue thing is a nervous habit.

Come on Loree, his pants and the tongue habit can be corrected. Is that why you didn't like him? It's all you talk about.

If INXS were to perform that song they would probably perform it the way Ty did. Maggie May is too classic rock for INXS.

Marty for example...the guy performs all his songs the same way. None of them are in the style of INXS. The contestents should think....how can I make this song INXS? The comfort zones of the performers is getting old. Make them all perform INXS songs now. I can predict pretty much how the people are going to sound before they perform them.

I didn't realize it was all I talked about. I mentioned it because I didn't like it.

I think Ty is a great singer. But I don't think he is right for INXS. And that Stop/Go song was another reason I don't think he is right for the band.

Suzie sings Sam Cooke's Bring It on Home to Me. I really liked it but it did not sound like INXS.

INXS loved it. The house band was awesome on that song too.

Of the first 4. I rank them:

1. Jordis - Top Notch
2. Ty - Ty is soulful so is INX
3. Jessica - ok, but not enough to get her out of the bottom.
4. Suzie - I did not like. boring

suzie sounded soulful. i liked it.

omg britney spears song is next? this should be good.

Her feet are nailed to the stage. She is a singer not a performer.

Poor Marty, the band chose for him to sing Brittney Spears, Hit Me Baby One More Time.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by seahorse on 08-16-05 at 10:25 PM
He did a unique version, but he missed some notes. I thought he did well for what he was given to sing.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by seahorse on 08-16-05 at 10:26 PM
The band went very easy on him, considering what he had to sing.

I did not like Marty's version.

Does the guy only know Grunge. News for Marty - INXS is not Grunge!

Thumbs down. He sounds the same on all his songs

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by seahorse on 08-16-05 at 10:30 PM
He had to try to work with their choice, which was difficult.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by Wacko Jacko on 08-16-05 at 10:31 PM
Yes, but he sounds the same on every song. He has that 'angry eyes' look and too grunge. Show me INXS!

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by Glow on 08-17-05 at 00:12 AM
I like Marty. I like that he made that (horrible) song not so horrible. In his version, I actually listened to the words. To me that makes it a pretty strong performance. He is consistently one of the best up there.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by Loree on 08-17-05 at 10:56 AM
I don't think Marty got the message INXS was giving him. They wanted him to be less serious and have fun with the song. But he sang it just like he sings everything else. I didn't see the fun in this song. I find Marty so blah. I hope he doesn't win this thing.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by seahorse on 08-16-05 at 10:28 PM
Deanna sings Bonnie Rait's I Can't Make You Love Me. Considering how deep her voice usually is, I think she pulled the song off.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"

Weak. Worst performance of the night so far, IMO

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"

Yes, I liked her but ggezo Deanna killed herself. She just put herself in the bottom 3 and she shouldn't of been. Guess her confidence is gone.

Although it might be a bottom 3 song this week, I liked it. She sold herself short with her comments.

I agree and I don't normally like Deanna. She was good and then blew it with her comments. She won't be around long. I see her flaming out tomorrow night. Just like heather...just giving up.

JD sings, As Tears Go By by The Rolling Stones.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"

The band was somewhat critical of JD. It was not bad in my book.

I thought it was pretty good. There's something about that J.D. that makes you want to watch him. You never know what he's going to do.

I would have to disagree, JD repels me.

I did not like his spins on it.

Why yes, it is a Syren... And yes, I AM wearing spandex

I totally agree. I liked this performance from him and I enjoy watching him on stage.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by Loree on 08-17-05 at 10:59 AM
I think JD has that watchability factor. I always find myself waiting to see what he is going to do and watching him. I thought he did it great. The band was a bit critical but then I think they like to push him. They have said that he listens to their instructions and follows them. So they like to give him suggestions. When they don't think someone can get any better they just tell them that was their best and leave it be. But they like to push JD. They want to see just how good he can be.

MIG sings Baby I Love Your Way by Peter Frampton. He plays piano for the song. I did it his way. Not bad at all.

MiG did a great job and I think he will probably get the encore. But the more I listen to him the more I don't think he is right for INXS.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by Wacko Jacko on 08-17-05 at 02:15 PM
If he is not right for them then who is?

There are four males, I don't think a female is right for them. Certainly not Suzie, Deanna, or Jessica.

So who?

Marty? Too Grunge
JD? I don't know. Let's see him do INXS
Ty? I like him, but most don't

Who????

I do doubt they will pick a female. But if they did. At this point I would pick Suzi. I know you don't like her Wacko Jacko. But I think she has the best voice for the band.

Of the males I am leaning towards JD. But I would like to see him sing an INXS song. Everyone is throwing around JD/Marty/MiG as the most likely to win. But none of them have yet had to sing INXS so all of us are just going by our personal choice. Marty bores me and he does sing every song the same way. That leaves JD and MiG. I think JD is just the best fitted. I enjoy MiG. But he almost has too much of a good boy/nice guy image to front the band. JD has that bad boy image that suits them. But first we have to hear them perform the INXS songs.

Current bottom three are Jessica, Deanna and Ty.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"

Bottom 3:

Jessica
Deanna
Ty

I don't understand why ty is in the bottom.

In the end I predict:
Jessica
Deanna
Suzie

I would put the following in the bottom three:
Suzie
Marty
JD

Everyone has different opinions. I did not care for Ty's performance at all and liked Suzie's. Although Marty's performance was not great, he did well for what he was given. I think the bottom 3 will stay as it is now.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"

My bottom three are also:

Marty
JD
Suzie

My bottom 3 would be:

Deanna
Jessica
Marty (Sorry, to put you here, Marty)

My Top 3:
MiG (by a landslide)
Ty (trying 2 forget the plaid & tongue thing)
J.D. (While not his best, I really liked it)

MIG - was my absolute favorite tonight. He blew me away. And not because "Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton...
it is my wedding song because he sang it to perfection.
The piano was just the icing on the cake !!!

Running late as always because I have to post after work. Can't see MiG not getting the encore tomorrow night. He sure deserves it. Any theories on why that song choice for Marty? Seemed like they really wanted to throw something off the wall at him. Just gotta say, the girl I was watching with hates J.D. and she poked me and said: look at all the girls, they are mesmerized. I didn't think he was the only one who had that effect, but a rock star has to have the "thud" factor. That is they have to make hearts go thud, thud.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by toddE on 08-17-05 at 09:32 AM
Should be Bottom 3:
Deanna-voice off
Ty-terrible start, strong finish
Marty-just bad, wretched finish.

I expect Ty and Jessica to be bottom three, maybe with Suzie or even JD, but ironically Jessica will probably get booted after her best performance.

Only Jordis and Mig are really safe this week.

"RE: 9-16-05 Show Discussion"
Posted by CBRetriever on 08-17-05 at 01:16 PM
Why on earth did Ty have to try copy Rod Stewart with his voice? This is a song that could have been really changed up and come out way different. Either Marty or JD could have made it interesting. Ty just seems to channel the original singer instead of being himself.

I think the encore will be either MiG or Suzie (unless she's bottom three in the voting). I'd like JD to go there just to see him do a INXS song. I don't think he'd be sent home by INXS, as surely they realize that the show would become a snooze fest w/o JD.

I really loved they way Ty did Maggie May. I thought he gave it a very different spin that the original and I am definitely old enough to remember the original. Even his funky pants didn't blow it for me. He is in my top 4!
