"Rock Star: Other Bands?"

TriGirl got me wondering if this show could become a recurring show (ie with more seasons). Which bands would you like to see Rock Star:ed?

I will start with Rock Star:No Doubt. I think they are looking for a new lead. Hard to imagine guys auditioning for that role though!

There's Are You the Girl? on some other channel-TLC looks for a Lisa Lopez replacement.

"Ty for Village People"

Ty looks like he belongs in the Village People, maybe dressed as the Indian but with the Mohawk instead of a headdress and singing lead of course. I'm not sure if it's just how flashy and theatrical he is but keep getting hip shaking visuals. It may also have to do with looking at the pictures on his blog spot. In one, he looks like Peter Pan then like a member of a Flock of Seagulls. That guy doesn't have bad hair days, he's had bad hair decades. Also could see him as the lead singer for In Living Color.

Jordis-Would like Van Halen to hire her as their lead singer. She could do the songs fine and they need someone who wouldn't get compared to David Lee or Sammy.

Brandon-Maybe Creed could hire him since they dumped Scott Stapp? Too late for Black Crowes since they're back w/Kate Hudson's hubby.

J.D.-the singer from Steppenwolf has cut way back on the number of shows they perform and is phasing in retirement. Maybe J.D. could sing with the rest of the band.

NAh it won't happen again.. this is a one time deal thing.. I believe unless it's showing more of what goes on behind the "stage." Cuz that's when things get interesting.. have you noticed that? 30 minutes is not enough especially when it focuses on "perks" that the contestants are facing each week.

I would say probably Nirvana.. but nope Kurt Cobain is "UNTOUCHABLE" it's like asking someone to front Elvis' band.. that is not gonna happen..

Hmmn No doubt has passed their "quota" for being eligible.

Others. I really don't think it's worth trying .. INXS yes but only cuz the band has passion to keep playing and get it happening. Having Dave Navarro co-host the show definitely helps.

Given the poor ratings this show is undeservedly getting I doubt there will be another Rock Star anything. Too bad, my wife and I both love this show and look forward to Tuesday night.

Agreed, I love the show too, but there won't be another at least not on CBS. This show has not be an American Idol type ratings bonanza.

Let's see who needs a singer:

Van Halen
The Police
Big Country
TLC
CCR
Ratt
The Doors
The Waitresses
Warrant
Foreigner
Journey

Like any of those? Any others?????

Journey would be the best if they decide to get rid of their Steve Perry replacement. Not sure they would find anyone better on this show, but people would watch. Van Halen would be good also.

Wouldn't it be funny to have the Waitresses. They could have 12 contestents and the bottom three all sing "I know what boys like". It would be funny especially if half were males.

How about Styx?
Queen?

The trouble with these two & Journey is that most of their songs were written for unbelievably high tenors...good luck -- or have fun transposing everything.

(edited because I had another thought)

Obviously MiG for Queen and the Doors have lost their right to the name "The Doors" so they're out, though they were touring with Ian from the Cult doing the Morrison role.

I'd have to add the Gits, thought they may be too far out there for most people and Joan Jett did cut one single and may have toured with them as a replacement for Mia Zapata.

Hmmm.....Queen and the Doors.....I don't know if fans would be too kind to the new guy/girl. It's just too hard to take legendary bands and put a new person in as their lead singer who is a big part of any band. I don't know why the ratings suck for this show because it kicks American Idol's a## but even if it did have great ratings it would be hard to find the bands.

I thought about Styx, but half their songs are song by a differnet singer.

Queen would be good, didn't think about that one. Van Halen would work real well too. But not sure if fans of Queen or Van Halen would take too well having their new lead singer coming from a Reality TV Show.

I appreciate that the ratings don't match AI, but do they need to? This show isn't playing is the prime 8:00 time spot, but at 10:00. I suspect that most shows in the 10 spot have weaker ratings than the 8's. Also, this show is first year. Could it get better ratings in the future? Probably depends on the band being filled.

Personally I find AI way too sugary for my taste. So I like Rock Star better. Unfortunately the masses seem to like the sugar, so the Rock Star ratings are what they are.

Hey, I too love Rock Star. It is my favorite show on the air at this time. A million times better than AI. For one thing, none of the contestants suck. For another, it doesn't bury about 20 minutes of show in 40 minutes of crap. And for another, it doesn't have product placement to the left and to the right.

But the ratings have been consistently disappointing. I don't think many people give a crap who the new INXS singer is. I don't mean to sound so rough, but I initially passed on this show for that exact reason.

Fortunately, I saw a clip of the first episode on Best Week Ever and have enjoyed all following episodes. Yet, unless Jordis or Ty wins (very unlikely of course)I am really not interested in post-show INXS.

Well, we can all enjoy this season while it lasts.

I totally agree, Todd. I was also going to pass on this show, and just happened to flip by it on the second show, thought I'd stay for one or two singers as a laugh, and then couldn't turn it off because the talent was so good. It definitely smokes AI.

I actually don't know if "winning" this competition is going to be the best thing for the sole singer --- let's face it, INXS was good 20 years ago but I seriously doubt a major comeback is in the works for them, no matter who the lead singer is. It just may be a career killer for the winner.

Back on topic, I think Rock Star: Van Halen would be hilarious. Let's see the new singer try and get along with EDV and his control freak issues. LOL

We felt the same way. We fell upon this show by accident and stayed because the talent and entertainment value of these performers is incredible. It makes AI look like a real amateur contest.

I just saw something on sirlinksalot.net that said the ratings have been getting better and more people are voting. Has anyone else heard this? I would love to see Rockstar:Van Halen mostly because I want to see Eddie get off his rear and get a new (good) album out.

Really? After watching Marty on Rock Star INXs...he seems like a better contestent for Rock Star Nirvana to me. I don't see Kurt Cobain the icon /irreplacable person that the diehards do I guess.

From Variety.com by Phil Gallo:

Show eliminated a "rocker," as the contestants are called, Wednesday night, bringing the pool of finalists to six. Episode was watched by 6.2 million viewers.

While it's possible the continuation of the INXS saga will become another series, Riggs (Conrad Riggs, MB's business partner) said several bands have approached Burnett Prods. about doing a second season of the show. "Some need lead singers, and some aren't happy with the ones they have," he said.
