"Anyone see the VH1 show on 8-14?"

Missed part of the show tonight...saw that there were two groups & apparently they'd been required to compose a song & perform it? All I saw was that J.D. didn't want to cooperate w/his 'group.' What happened at their performances? Anything said about J.D. not being a 'team player'?

Saw it...they basically said that JD's team lost because they didn't work together...it wasn't about who had the best song (they didn't care much for Ty's group's song), but who worked together as a team. Then they let JD sing HIS song, and they really liked that. The comment (to the camera, not to the group) was that JD was doing great as a lead singer of a band, but was not doing so good as part of a band (or something to that effect, anyway). Anyway, Ty's group won, but the only song they really seemed impressed with was JD's.

I like JD but he wasn't a team player. I didn't care for the way Jordis or Marty treated him though, so I don't really blame him. Did anyone notice at the end the song he was rehearsing with the house band was the song he wrote? I know from reading this board that many don't like him or his attitude... but the guy has talent! Can't wait to see if they do "his" song Tuesday night & how it goes over with INXS & the audience!!

TiVo'd and watched at 9:30 when the orclings went to bed so we could watch it without kid commentary =)

I really like what VH1 does with the show as compaired to CBS. Also thought last night's show gave a lot more insight into what's going on in the house between the players. rockstar.msn.com quoted the comments made by what's-his-face:

Using the song's driving rhythm as a jumping-off point, J.D. turns out a moody road song. Dave says that J.D. has "every element required to be a great lead singer and front man." Unfortunately, he doesn't have "every element to be a great member of a band." J.D. may have missed the point of the assignment, but Dave has to admit he wrote the better song. Marty won't go that far, but calls J.D.'s peeling himself from the group and focusing attention on himself "psychotically clever."

me thinks this doesn't bode well for Mr JD...they're looking for a team player, not a super-ego. I can't wait to see what other songs were given out either. I was really hoping they'd make them do things out of their comfort zones and it looks like this week it's going to happen.
We're enjoying this show a lot in the house here...even Draggyn, my beloved and oh-so-reality-show-hating hubby is watching this one =)

Thanks to all of you! Now, I feel like I can make more sense of the tidbit I saw. You'd think being a 'team player' would be a necessity since this will be an 'outsider' joining an already-established group.

Loved the comments about the hubby getting hooked! Mine has too!

I am generally a big Dave Navarro fan, but his behavior was f***ed up last night.

After it was all clear that JD refused to cooperate (which is what the whole thing was supposedly about), he asks JD to sing his own song. That is just giving support to JDs whole prima donna attitude. And it isn't like his lyrics were so great either. His song was better? Seems like stirring sh!t up for the program.

It just seems so hypocritical to give an assignment related to working in a group, then rewarding the one person who refused to do so. This episode made me glad it was on VH1 and not the regular CBS channel.

BOOO to you, Dave.

I agree. J.D. is a misfit, and INXS won't put up with someone like that to be a member of their band. The public won't either. He will be in the bottom 3 soon if not this week, and will be eliminated by INXS for not being a team player.

Team player or not JD does have talent you can't denie that but he's not very likable in my opinion. Even though I don't like him I hope he wins. Let's face it, INXS was pretty much washed up even before Hutchence died. They may still have an international following but I don't see them being big in the states again. So, If JD were to win we would not have to deal with him and can look forward to whatever Jordis and Marty come away with. Jordis is by far the stand out but I doubt she will be picked (and i hope they dont)as the winner.

I'm saying:

Sweetie there are very likable people on earth that have talent.. would you pay to see a mean person do something good or pay wonderful person do something good?

Why do you want him to win if you don't like him.. are you willing to pay to see JD live? I don't think so.

I'd be willing to pay money to see him perform. I don't really care if he's nice or not. His voice and stage presence are amazing.

I totally disagree. The guys in the band are going to want to know why a song like "Stop/Go" won.

JD's quote about the assignment was fabulous. Why just do the song to get it done and over with. Why not put forth an amazing effort with a little more work. I like the idea that he didn't want to associate his name with bad work. His lyrics/song, were so moving, he's not going anywhere for a long time, bottom three maybe. Final three most definitely.

Now remember Dave is not looking for a lead singer for INXS. He just said what he thought, and perhaps what some other people wud like to have said. Maybe Dave's comments will suggest JD is no good for INXS.. but what do you mean?? about JD getting rewarded? he did not, he didn't get to go out, giggle...

Maybe Dave was intoxicated? Who knows.. I think Dave wanted to make sure he pointed out two things
1. JD is not going to be good with an established group cuz he'd be trying to change em instead of cooperating (ahem enhancing) them.
2. JD's music isn't all that bad..

But Dave shud've said "JD was being bratty like a spoiled 2 year old who didn't get to play with the gi joe that had black hair!"

Whatever, don't write everything Dave says in stone..it is only his opinion and that's all he can offer.

Well, after the first team's song was a cheesy joke, and the second teams wasn't much better, can you blame Dave for being curious about JDs song? Let's face it, INXS & Dave know that JD is the most talented of the group (understands INXS style, good voice and writing/composing talent). If you look at the INXS liner notes, he co-wrote most of their songs with one of the Farris brothers. They need a songwriter. However, I'm sure they are leary of taking on such a personality wildcard. And JD is one of the few that really gets the competition part of this. I think INXS & Dave are hoping that the rest raise their game. Having JD perform his song just might cause that to happen.

"RE: Anyone see the VH1 show on 8-14?"

The funniest part was how proud Ty and his group were of their Stop/Go song and they kept singing it. I kept having flashbacks of The Brady Bunch singing. It was so cheesy. INXS must of just about died laughing in private when they talked about it.

JD definitely wrote the better song. And what did Jessica do? She just sat there while the others tried to create.

I think Marty has a big problem with JD. I still remember Marty whining back at the mansion after JD made his famous announcement that he was there for INXS. Marty is threatened by JD. So he did not want JD to have any credit for the song their team created. Marty knows that INXS loves Jordis. So he hooked up with her to create something that JD would not get credit for. But it kind of backfired. JD got credit from Dave for his song. And the team was disqualified from winning for not working together.

>I really like what VH1 does

I agree, that these last 2 weeks on VH1 Mark Burnett has done a lot more with the half hour. Still wish they would do an hour.

I don't think the way J.D. handled himself in the "collaboration" will hurt him at all. I thought it was great that he stood by his choice of not doing fluff and not taking the assignment seriously and, instead, wanting to do something really good.

I think Marty was flip-flopping in his role as music director and I personally feel he went with Jordis because he probably thinks she walks on water because of the praise she gets almost every week.

I also did not care for Jordis's attitude about it. Basically, J.D. is like the black sheep, because he keeps reminding them "we're not a band, we're competing to be in the band. And none of them were going to back up J.D. no matter what and I think it was in his best interest to stick to his guns and his song. Glad he got to perform it. Who knows, maybe it will end up being on the album?

Ty's group should have been ashamed of themselves with their "StopGo" garbage. The not very good feedback on the song in the house should have made them wake up & realize it was really, really lame but instead, they sing it in the restaurant? As, one of the INXS guys put it, "really sounds corny."

I think J.D. spotlighted his talent to INXS again & it will help him. Great move by J.D. Loved all the jealous dagger-looks he was getting from the others.

Ditto ditto Geg6 and Chat.

First of all, the entire Stop/Go team should be booted tonight for that horrendous godawful song that they just loved. (The hair on the back of my neck rises when I think about it.) When you're on a team project, you need to express an opinion or else you're just taking up space. SOMEBODY on that team should have said something about how ridiculous that song was ... they all lost all rock-and-roll credibility in my mind.

Putting a group of contestants who are vying for the same job on a team project is great TV, but it's not a valid indicator of future performance. The true ultimate goal is to show why you are right for the job, and buying into a bad song is just plain stupid IMHO. Case in point: Will INXS think that any of the Stop/Go team has songwriting talent (or good taste?) Jordis' song was booooorrrring and Marty had no opinion whatsoever -- he just seemed to acquiesce to Jordis and use her as a shield.

Of course teamwork is important in a band, but I don't think it's reasonable to think that the way anybody works with the other contestants is the way they'll work with INXS. The exercise they went through is nowhere near a true simulation.

INXS will need someone to contribute lyrically and musically, so they need someone with talent in those areas ... and when you have talent, you have an opinion and you share it respectfully. How does one do that with people you're competing against, people who have much different talent levels and ambitions? I mean honestly, if you were on the Stop/Go team and respectfully explained why you didn't think it was good AND suggested an alternative and Ty went with the group consensus to stick with Stop/Go? Would it be in your best interest to sing your heart out on it and look like a complete dufus?

I think JD was TOTALLY right in how he handled himself. It's not a huge ego or an inability to work with people in the right situation. It's a competition!!!

I agree with part of what you said, the parts I quoted.

I mean really, do you think JD would behave so disrespectfully to INXS if he were collaborating with them? NO WAY. I can't see any of these contestants being anything other than deferential to their elder bandmates! All this did was show, in a general way, who plays nicely with others, as if we didn't already know.

I don't think anyone would disagree that JD is talented. INXS definitely knows it. What will hurt JD the most is his manipulative personality. I think they way he acted in this clinic will hurt him. He really can't be trusted. The other members in the house certainly could be jealous of him but I think it's more than that. They see him for what he is.

If INXS chooses him they will regret it, guaranteed. JD will prove difficult in no time, even though he'd cooperate with them in the beginning. He will ultimately show his discontent and indepenence and start thinking he is too good for the band. He is NOT a team player and he proved it.

I have to respectfully disagree. I don't see this "master manipulator" J.D. What I see is someone who made a remark that ticked off everybody, so now he is an outcast by the "house." In each ep you'll see small attempts by him to try to mend fences, which is usually rebuffed and then he gets defensive. Who wouldn't?

Also, he wasn't the sole problem with the collaboration process and I'm sure all footage is reviewed & INXS saw what went on. J.D. started as a "team player" and was the one who suggested Marty be the music director. Problem number one is Jordis basically wanted to do her thing and didn't like J.D.'s input. Marty floundered between J.D. and Jordis, apparently thinking both had potential and decided to go with Queen Jordis.

Really, I think Marty, Jordis & Jessica looked worse in this project for not giving J.D. any credit or respect with his idea. Especially, since his song was the "better song" they were fools not to go with J.D.'s idea. I think that will hurt them slightly in this. Just because they are annoyed with J.D., they weren't going to listen or accept anything from him.

>If INXS chooses him they will
>regret it, guaranteed. JD

Also disagree. J.D. has time and time again stated how much of a fan he is of INXS, how much he respects them & how much he wants this. How he interacts with competitors who do not like him and do not respect anything he has to say, does not indicate how he would conduct himself with INXS.

After this ep & seeing that J.D. also has talent in writing is a huge plus for him. Hutchence & A.Farris did most of the song writing in the past, so someone who can write lyrics would be a huge plus to fill the void left behind by M.H.

Oh & I love that INXS chose the songs for each this week. Maybe it will give us insight on who they are really interested in. I was so bummed that they didn't show us all the song assignments though.

CAN'T WAIT TIL CONCERT NITE TOMORROW!

And what's up with Marty getting Britney Spears?? Hilarious.

Well, Well, Well...

I thought last night's show revealed a lot about who should or shouldn't win this competition. Firstly let me say that I have totally revised my opinion about jordis being someone to look to win this thing. What the heck was she talking about by lyrics being "too obvious"... umm hello you are trying to win to be the lead in INXS, not Nirvana. How utterly pretentious! She is way not right for the band, but neither is Ty, Suzie, or Jessica.

I really feel this is race between JD, Marty, and Mig at this point. However I must say... that was a LAME track! I hope that the INXS boys have more up their sleeves than that.

Oh and by the way I noticed that Tim is looking quite a bit more refreshed lately. He even dyed his hair... Hmm

I agree with you. I still like Jordis, but the more I see of her, the more I think she's wrong for this band.

I think INXS knows JD is perfect for their band, other than his attitude. And attitude can make or break JD's chances.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Mig & Marty do this week.

Oh I am really waiting to see MiG and Marty tonight. They are both contenders but like the band said. They need to deviate a little more. It will be interesting to see if they shine or flop.

I don't think JD's attitude will really bother the band. His whole ego is because he wants it so bad. He doesn't want to best INXS he wants to be one of them. That is also playing on the egos of INXS. They have to be flattered how badly JD wants it. The others at times seem more like they just want to be discovered on this show for solo careers.

I was cringing when they sang Stop Go. Yikes, that didn't sound remotely like anything INXS would touch. I honestly thought of the B-52's when I heard that. STOP GO, to the Loveshack baby!

How about the forced smiles from INXS when the group broke out and sang it at dinner. Gary Beers couldn't have tried better to appear interested in that song.

"Barf"

That was such a pile of carpy cheese. And I think they actually liked singing it. Now if JD had refused to sing THAT, I think everyone would've understood.

I also noticed the band shuddering a bit at the dinner table, that was classic. The looks we read from INXS were "stfu already pleeeeeeze?" =)

What's even worse than how bad the song was, was how all four of them thought it was so GREAT!! I have been a HUGE Ty fan (not for INXS), but I have to admit I lost a little respect for him after they created such a lame song AND were so convinced it was great. I watched the ep for a second time last night and everytime Ty was singing StopGo with that huge excited grin, I just had to shake my head.

I think it may have taken the 4 of them (Ty, MiG, Suzie, Deanna) down a notch in Dave & INXS's eyes.
