The "pay to see" factor seems to be big for INXS & Dave. So which of our contestants would you pay, oh, $20 to see with the house band?Mine are MiG, Jordis, JD & Ty.
The rest I'd pay a $5 cover charge to see at the local bar (and I hate paying cover charges, so it's actually a compliment from me).

I'd probably pay $20 to see any of them. I think they're all very talented and $20 is a very cheap concert.
I'd pay $20 to see the house band. They are really really good!I'd pay to see Jordis, Marty & MiG.
What Lisa said. This show is increasingly about the House Band for me.

Plus, I always like saying What Lisa Said.
Last night really impressed me! And they have such thoughtful comments for the singers when rehearsing. The keyboardist & Brandon look frighteningly alike....I hope the band is getting paid well.

you really should think about cross stitching it on a pillow.
![]()
it's not like you don't come up with a few pearls of your own, you know.
Oh yeah, the house band!! uff!If it's the house band, I'd even pay to see Carrie Underwood!
As for this crew,
MiG
Marty
Jordis
TyAbout evenly ranked for stuff of their own choosing, but to me, as a fit for INXS,
MiG
Marty
Definitely MiG, J.D., Jordis & Ty.MiG or J.D. to front INXS & the other to front the house band and call it his own.
Jordis to get her own band or just go solo.
Ty as a solo artist and they should put him the movie they're making of RENT (one of my fave Broadway shows -- seen 3 times), because he would be GREAT in it.
![]()
Oh, I'd pay to see JD and Jordis for sure. Also, possibly Marty. I've already paid a cover charge to see Ty (when I had no idea who he was), so I would pay to see him again. And more this time.
I'm such a slut for the blues.
At an arena, I wouldn't pay $20 to see any of them. The days of my paying to not be able to see or hear well are over.If it was a medium-sized venue like a concert hall or the Ryman, I would pay $20 to see Jordis, Ty, or MiG and I reserve judgement on J.D. about the 20 bucks until the show is over. For $5, Marty or Suzie.
And I concur about the house band, they're great! But what kind of name is Raffa?
LAST EDITED ON 08-03-05 AT 01:42 PM (EST)I would pay yo see the following:
Jordis
JD
TyThese 3 are performers and they could sing covers, their own songs or whatever and they would be good.
Others I feel are good but would have to hear more are:
Marty
BrandonMig might be good but I want to hear him sing some INXS songs first.
I'd pay to see -most (regular ticket prices - more than twenty dollars):
Mig
Jordissecond tier:
house band
Marty
Ty (I know he's theatrical, but he is fun to watch)
Well, I'm "in financial scarcity" right now, so $20 sounds like A LOT of money...but I'd spend it on Jordis. Definitely. Probably Marty, too. But the others, for an evening? Hmm. MiG, and Ty, but it would be the cover charge scenario. Maybe $10.
Jordis, JD, Marty and MiG, probably in that order. Actually I might pay more to see Jordis, and it has been a long time since I paid to see anyone, and it isn't about the money, it is about the crowds.![]()
Hi everyone! This is my virgin reality tv message board post -- in fact, there are only a few reality shows I've bothered with. But I'm enjoying Rock Star so much and love reading your posts so I had to jump in.INXS was one of my favorite bands growing up -- saw them 2x & played their tapes incessantly. "Don't Change" was like my anthem. I can't wait to start hearing ALL of the participants sing their songs, not just the bottom three.
Yet for me, there's really only 1 rocker I'd pay to watch for 2+ hours: J.D. (2hrs is a long time!!)
I replayed my TIVO 3x last night to watch J.D. and Jordis. He's dynamic, passionate, creative and just plain fun to watch. He seems to have great chemistry with the audience, and so far, he's worked a lot harder than the other contestants to show off his musical skill. OK, we won't discuss last week's horrid meltdown -- that's another topic altogether. It was a sad week for almost everyone, but at least JD was interesting to watch.
Jordis is really wonderful -- I'd pay handsomely to see her in a smaller venue with the right band. But I agree with so many of you that she's not the right choice for INXS. She's got a terrific career ahead of her.
I really enjoy Marty as well -- he's got a great voice and terrific stage presence, but I'm really surprised that nobody has commented on his pitch. He's so off (sharp?) that I'm wincing almost the entire time he's performing ... and unfortunately, I'm not sure that's something that's easily fixed. You can either sing on key or you can't. I SO wanted him to be better this week but was sorely disappointed. I'd love not to feel that way because I enjoy his intensity and he seems like a great guy ... but I wouldn't pay to watch him for 2 hours right now.
I'd like to feel more strongly about MiG as well. The guy is hot, but his voice feels thin to me and I used to dance like that in the 80s -- like he's Courtney Cox in the Dancing in the Dark video. And there are still some awkward and bad retro theatrical moves in his arsenal. My 63 yo mother might think he's sexy, but I agree with Dave N. -- it'd be great to see him after a half bottle of vodka. He really needs to loosen up physically so that he moves like a rock star!
The rest of the group: lots of musical talent, but no rock stars in the bunch IMHO. On week 1 I though Ty was a shoo-in, but he really does feel like he should be in a musical instead. Brandon's an interesting character but I don't think he's going to improve enough to stick around for more than another 2 weeks. And the girls have great voices, but right now none of them have the style or charisma to front a band in front of tens of thousands and keep an audience captivated for more than a short set of songs. That kind of performance talent is SO RARE, even more rare than the pure musical talent that most of them share.
I hope Marty and MiG prove me wrong so I can put them in the bucket with J.D. and Jordis -- they're the only ones I'd want to watch for that long. And right now in my mind, J.D. is the only one who should be fronting this band!
Good luck to everyone!
Welcome funkalicious, I, for one, enjoyed your first post on a reality tv board! I can't really hear Marty being sharp, but then I would never say I had the best ears in the world! As for J.D. and Jordis, my top two also.![]()
..keep an audience captivated for more than a short set of songs. That kind of performance talent is SO RARE, even more rare than the pure musical talent that most of them share.Welcome funkalicious!
You made a great point, I sometimes forget how rare that talent is.
Hi funkalicious! Great first post. Well thought out & clearly written.I agree with a lot of what you are saying, although I think Mig can be lumped with Jordis & JD. He's at least more consistent than JD, but does take fewer risks. However, I think he's taking more risks as the weeks go on.

Hey guys -- thanks for the welcome notes! This is fun ... and let's make sure all of our friends & family tune in so the show doesn't get cancelled beyond the Monday night switch to VH1!
For Jordis, any amount of money. If you include a backstage pass with a chance to meet her, I'll toss in my first bornI know bigger and better things are in store for Jordis, but if she does return to Minnesota to play with her band Liar Club again, I will be making a trek up that way.
Marty is from the Chicagoland area like me, so if he returns to Sweet Home Chicago, I'll venture into the big city to check him out.
Others I would be willing to invest some time and money into seeing are Heather, JD, Mig, and Tara.
Was Ty awesome last night or what? He changed my mind, I think he could work as the Lead Singer for INXS.
I would pay to see Jordis, no doubt. And possibly JD. I like MiG, but wouldn't pay to see him.
She nice, the Syren.
and I wouldn't pay to see INXS. I don't know why I watch this show. LOL.
I'd pay to see JD because he always entertains me. I wait to see him and find out what he is going to do next. He has that watchability factor. The others it would depend what they are going to sing.
I am another oldie who would't pay to see anyone in an arena, but in a small setting, I'd pay to see Jordis.I think Jordis is easily the best of the bunch. However, I do understand why some people think she's not the best "fit" for INXS.
OTOH, INXS has to be thinking about how to be relevant again. IMO, INXS is about two seasons away from appearing on "Hit Me Baby One More Time."
They need a singer who will make them relevant again. JD is a good front man, he and Jordis are the only two I think could possibly rejuvenate the band. Mig is good, he might make them big again in Aussie. Marty is so bland, I think he's been over-rated.

With MiG it is so hard to tell. I seen him perform Walk This Way and We Will Rock You. Two songs hard to judge. The jury is out on him so far for me.
I agree about MiG. I am waiting to see what he does with an INXS song.
Definitely would pay to see Mig, I'd also buy him drinks. Like Dave said it'd be interesting to see what Mig's like after drinking a bottle of Vodka. I'm loving Mig a lot he's veristatile.
Jordis I love, but I feel she keeps leaning into one genre and I've not seen her really "rock" the house since her first song and that's a long time ago. I also don't think she's displaying anything "sexual" for anyone, it's more "sincere and nonchalant."
Mig is definitely sending out sexual vibes.
JD frankly scares me. I can't take or stand how "I N T E N S E" he is. I wud be too occupied w/ "is JD gonna mess up or not tonight?"
TY, he really messed up that song for me I'm pissed. Then you have Brandon, also messed the song up. Not happy now, especially since Devil Inside and Kick are among the best INXS songs.
So it's basically MIG I'd pay to see. With the rest of the "singers," I wud be paying just to see the INXS crew (and hopefully Dave Navarro if he tours w/ em... ). sO it wudn't matter.. but MIG wud make seeing the whole thing a PRIORITY of mine.
RIg INXS up W/ MIG.. gee I hope that aussie who lives in british wins.. he's something else.. loves him.. Mig mig mig mig oh my mig.
I would pay to see Dave Navarro just play the guitar for hours.. hmmn.. I am just noticing him now.. I tend to "Take NOTICE FAST" when a musician opens his mouth and expresses his own opinion.. Yeah I just bought his book, (just now)haven't read it yet but hopefully I'll still think Dave is the kitten's meow.
yep, Now that I wud pay to see Dave play his guitar all night long, it's so embarassing I had no idea who "Dave Navarro" was in 1995. My son's father said "people think I look like Dave Navarro." I said, "No, you don't" cuz I had no idea who Dave Navarro looked like, and I was mad at the ex..Now, hmmn.. I think my son's father is sort of like the shredded version of Dave Navarro, and Dave Navarro is the only Dave Navarro.. I mean it'd piss me off if some beep said she thought she looked like me.. (now wudn't that irk you?)
Whatever, my point is moot yes..
wait, what was my point? Oh yeah that I can't believe I had no idea who Sir Master Dave Navarro was until just now? that's my point...
I have noticed a pattern. how come you like to reply to your own messages???
Why do you even care? I like to hear myself talk.. Beep off.
I would definatley pay to see Jordis, Mig, Jessica or Deanna. They are the only ones there with any talent. I think Ty is to plain I think you could go out onto the streets and find a million performers just like Ty. He doesn't have anything special about him. He has talent but not enough individuality. Same for Marty.
