According to Jordis's MSN blog, JD has suggested that they pull songs from a hat.July 28th
…J.D. just suggested that we should pick our songs out of a hat for song selection. Personally I am sh*%&ing my pants. That makes a scary situation even scarier. I guess we will just have to see how this pans out. I am gunna be sick…(not really…but maybe).I hope they don't do that. I think having them work it out is interesting.
I could see a contestant or two who might be up for it but I have to believe the majority would say no. More importantly the producers will probably put the kabosh on it.Like you said, the picking of songs is interesting. Why would Mark Burnett let it be something totally random when he might be able to get a little tension and bickering between contestants? Tension and bickering makes for better TV then a one minute segment of drawing out of a hat.
JD's suggestion seems like more fallout from his bomb of first choice last week. This would allow him to blame the hat if he bombs again on a hard song like We are the Champions. Plus INXS have made request of contestants of the type of song they would like to hear. These requests would also be nullified.
I'm thinking that JD is quite a bit the schemer.
Yeah, Buggy. He is totally a little schemer. That's one of the things I like about him. It's nice that all these people are so nice and supportive of each other. But JD gets that it's also reality TV and is doing his best not to be boring. In the best rock'n'roll tradition. Hee hee. I like it.
I'm such a slut for the blues.
But I realize I'm in the minority. Hey, it's from EPMB. Do you think he forgets it's reality TV for a minute?
His paranoia & scheming remind me a little of Rob Cesternino.

*gasp*
Ooooh, you're right, he's a LOT like Rob C.! (Or trying to be.)
Is the show only a 1/2 hour tonight?
1/2 hour Monday, an hour Tuesday, and 1/2 hour Wednesday. That's the way it's been for a couple weeks.
Never noticed it was on Mondays.
Even more the schemer after last night.Mondays show is kinda a waste especially since they show highlights on the Tuesday show. I'll still watch though.
I like the Monday show, and I am usually sorry it's over so soon. I like the song selection process, the rehearsal footage, and whatever "clinic" they have.
I don't know, I never watched this show when it was on.
Wow, some of these peeps are pretty spineless when it comes to song decisions. When will the COMPETITION part start sinking in?
![]()
Yeah, the only one with a clue is JD. And maybe Ty, a little bit. At least he has a competitive bone. The rest think the whole thing is a lovefest. Personally, I think that to be successful in any business, but especially in show business (and that's what, in the end, rock and roll is), you have to be somewhat mercilessly competitive to really make it. And I wouldn't want someone in my band who didn't have that spark.
I'm such a slut for the blues.
I am sorry but how is Ty taking the last song...the one no one wants being competitive? There were others out there that fought for their song. Didn't Brandon get the song he really wanted?
First, let me say that I thought Ty got it "a little bit." I think, though, that he ended up thinking a bit strategically. First, it's a song that he didn't know and didn't feel was his style. I think he realizes that if he can do it well, he will have taken a giant step toward the finals. Second, Brandon now owes him one. It's never a bad thing to have something like that in your pocket to pull out when it's really needed.
I'm such a slut for the blues.

LAST EDITED ON 08-02-05 AT 04:21 PM (EST)Yeah, Ty was sort of brave about taking on a song he never heard--I hope it doesn't backfire on him. I think the House Band was doing well at showing him how it went. Plus, having not heard it before, Ty won't be able to just copy the Foo Fighters' version. ADDED IN EDIT: OOPS, I guess Ty does get to hear the FF version, via MP3, and will do a faithful rendition, according to his blog.
Having Brandon owe him one doesn't seem very valuable, since I don't think Brandon will be around much longer!
Is it possible to be "somewhat merciless?"
Would that be like being sort of ruthless?![]()
I just can't figure out where they are going with this J.D. thing. They are featuring him so much and showing all the game play in his edit. I don't know if that bodes well for a win for J.D.![]()
Well, all I know is the show is filmed only a couple days before the episodes air and they have been showing JD in this light for a couple weeks now. I myself agree with you that his type of personality may not be good for a band like INXS but I don't think it is as carefully sculpted like you say. However, you gotta believe INXS is watching these episodes and it makes me wonder how smart JD is. If this show was taped months in advance than it is not as big of a deal but the guy is an idiot for displaying everything that he has. Don't you think???? I bet he is a surprise boot in the upcoming weeks.
Could be for an early boot, or could be for a good guy/bad guy finish. They aren't giving Marty that much screen time, so who would be good guy? MiG?![]()
Just the fact that Marty doesn't get so much face time is a sign that he is probably going to be around for a while. Usually the person that gets lots of face time is the one that exits!
Come on. Marty just this past week showcased his Lithium performance and then had his sister visit him. He is getting plenty of coverage. They aren't setting up anything. No one knows who the final two are. If anything they are telling INXS that JD is an azz and that could influence them but it has nothing to do with foreshadowing the outcome.
I'm willing to entertain that they are not doing it on purpose-but I wouldn't bet on it! Most of us picked favorites the very first week. Can the members of INXS be so different? Could they not say in an aside: we think X,Y and Z will be in the finals, you might want to give them some screen time.![]()
>However, you
>gotta believe INXS is watching
>these episodes and it makes
>me wonder how smart JD
>is.Yeah, INXS says they only judge by the performances, but, c'mon! All the rehearsal stuff? How each one works with the House Band? What the obstacles are for each contestant? And yeah, the personal drama in the house. They HAVE to be seeing the footage!
And the part where JD was "tricking" someone (Suzie?) into letting him have his song, then saying he believed in karma? With a straight face?! Uck. He just can't leave soon enough for me.
>>And the part where JD was "tricking" someone (Suzie?) into letting him have his song, then saying he believed in karma? With a straight face?! Uck. He just can't leave soon enough for me.<<This was just a dumb move.
Suzie has no say in whether JD stays or goes. So he told the viewers at home (who DO have a say) that he was lying & sneaky so that Suzie would think he was nice? Where's the logic in that?
Plus, yes, his 2nd & 3rd performances were very strong, but I think he showed last week that he's got Neal Syndrome:
No range, can't stay in tune.
(Heather and Brandon are also victims of NS)
Tim Farris admitted the band watchs the monday night shows so I would be a little smarter if I were JD and not be a sneaky SOB.But what was funny is that they filmed Wednesday's show Sunday so the monday night show hadn't aired yet so INXS must get to see a preview copy of the monday night show before it airs. Tim was talking about Jessica talking about how the viewing audience doesn't like her.
LAST EDITED ON 08-02-05 AT 08:57 PM (EST)I don't think they spent much camera time on who got what song, and I had to go to the contestant's blogs to help me remember most of them. Let's see:
JESSICA got Blister In the Sun--she's worried about it not showing her "vocal abilities" but from the rehearsal footage, I think she'll do a good job, maybe her best yet. It's getting her out of her Cher Zone, and I didn't think that was possible.
TY got Everlong--hmmm. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. I wonder how he'll do on the softer parts...
BRANDON got a song by Tonic that I'm vaguely familiar with, but it seems to have a melody, so....
JORDIS got The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie. I've never heard Bowie's version, but I have heard the version by...NIRVANA. I wonder if Jordis knows that some consider this a Nirvana song? She must, because she's Grunge Girl. And why would she do this song if it reminds her of her dead friend? Why put herself in the position of maybe losing it? From the tiny bit of rehearsal we saw, I think she'll do it beautifully...let's hope she doesn't cry.
MARTY got Arms Wide Open by Creed--he'll do that well, I guess, but I don't like the song that much. He was asked by the band to sing a ballad this time. Oh well.
MIG will perform We Will Rock You. In his blog, he says he's good friends with Brian May, of Queen. I hope he does this song with the attutude it requires--much swagger and bravado. He would do well to reveal that side of himself, if it's there.
SUZIE will do Get Back. That should be good, unless she American Idolizes it. Let's hope not.
DEANNA got the Melissa Etheridge song, I'm The Only One. She is gonna sing the hell outta that one, kick @ss & take names. That is, provided her self confidence isn't too destroyed by feeling like "damaged goods" from the vocal clinic.
TARA--what song did she get? It's not on the blog. (Her blog entries show her as a very nice person. I feel I may lighten up on her...nah, she still bugs me, at least in performance.)
JD--I can't remember what he got, & I know it was one that Suzie was wanting, too. I just remember hitting the mute button when they showed him trying it out! It's not on his blog.
So, could someone tell me what Tara & JD will be singing?
You make some good observations.*however*
I think Kurt Cobain would be the first to say The Man Who Sold the World is NOT considered a "Nirvana" song. Yeesh. You make me feel old.
![]()
Don't get me wrong, I adore Nirvana. But Bowie? There first, there still, wrote the song, was major hit. "Killing Me Softly" BTW was a ROBERTA FLACK song originally, not the Fugees.
![]()
Hey Ginger, don't feel old! (I'm 45, BTW)Your entry caused me to go to cdnow.com & find out more about this. I really want to hear the Bowie version--one reviewer said it kicks the Nirvana one dead, and he LOVES the Nirvana one! I have 6 Bowie albums, (yeah, albums, they're vinyl) but not this one. Yet.
Great. I not only failed to welcome you, I patronized someone who is (tee hee) a couple of years older than me.Actually, both versions of the song are great. In a way, the song fit where Cobain was at the time he recorded it more than it did the present-day Bowie. I think anyone who listens to Bowie AND Nirvana AND who didn't get all offended by my not too wonderful snappish postings is going to be a great addition to our snarky little gang.
Cruise around -- there are lots of great forums here, and the summaries are splendid, as well as the overall quality of postings!

LAST EDITED ON 08-02-05 AT 07:23 PM (EST)Hey, I just want to remind you that what I said earlier was that "some would consider it a Nirvana song" and I still think that's true, because I think there is a whole generation that has only heard Kurt sing it. But, hearing Jordis say last night that it's a Bowie song may have a lot of people saying, Oh! OK, it's a Bowie song! Gotta check it out!
Thanks for your welcome! I actually have been to some other forums on this site (Apprentice, Amazing Race & others) but this is the first one where I have been frequently posting. As you can see by my DAW rating, I'm pretty new. Check out my observations about the MSN site's message boards on another thread in this forum. Mea culpa, I won't go back THERE again!

I love the word "snarky," don't you?
AFTER EDIT: Oh, I see that you have viewed my comments.
I was just checking out blogs (and checked Jordis's first). She says this:Well, so much for picking our songs out of a hat. A couple of people were opposed to the idea so it was nixed and we chose our songs as we always do. My top 3 were … #1 “Everlong” by Foo Fighters; #2 “The Man Who Sold the World” by David Bowie; #3 “I'm the Only One” by Melissa Ethridge. I ended up with my second choice but I am very happy with it.
So... if "The Man Who Sold the World" was her #2, and she actually wanted "Everlong" first and foremost... how did Ty wind up getting stuck with "Everlong?"
(I probably should've continued reading...) From Ty's blog, sounds like he's pretty excited about the song now. Either that or just trying to put a good face on the situation:This week in the song selection the grills were locked and every song I chose someone else wanted, so I decided to be adventurous and pick a song that I not only didn't know but also have never heard of … "Everlong" by David Grohl performed by Foo Fighters. It got me nervous because I know how important every performance is. Once I got the recording of it I immediately fell in love with it. It rocks so f*#!ing hard and coming off of my acoustic mellow performance last week it will be good to throw some balls into peoples faces. The song is so bad ass because of the dirty guitar riffs and some bombastic drum fills. And in the middle of this storm, the calm is the lyrics. It's a love song in the middle of chaos. I can't wait to have it run through me, I hope to make Foo Fighters proud. I'm doing it straight up as far as the arrangement because I want to pay honor to the work.

Actually it's Blister in the Sun rather than Raisin in the Sun, a song I like a lot and hope Jessica does well with. I don't mean to be all schoolmarmy but go Femmes!
OMG you're right and I'm so embarassed! AAAKK!Thank you so much for pointing that out, and I'm gonna go fix it right now! (Huh...why did I put Raisin? It's the title of a play, but still, I KNOW that song!)
How you doing Klick?
