"Did JD Throw "We Are the Champions"?"

Posted by newdrew136 on 07-27-05 at 09:42 AM
Hi there - newbie here - and big JD fan. HOWEVER, his performance last night was atrocious, and Ive got a sneaking suspician that his long-lost sister was a plant in the audience.

Think about it - it was awful convenient that he saw her and "couldn't hold it together" at the VERY same time he was to hit the notes that he could not hit in practice. He went downhill afterwards and he stood there hugging her after the song was over to draw attention away from that ##### performance.

I say the dude has nothing to lose and will stop at nothing to win this thing, even if it includes some convenient excuse for not hitting a note.

Anyone, anyone?

The sister in the audience thing sounds to me more like the kind of manipulation at which EP Mark Burnett excels. JD wasn't going to do well with that song no matter what, but I don't think he'd be able to set something like this up with a sister he hasn't seen in two years.

I don't think this will matter in the end. I think JD is playing it just right and (hope) he'll win in in the end.

I'm such a slut for the blues.

In the contestant blogs on the MSN Rock Star site, JD mentions that his sister will be in the audience. He wasn't caught by suprise that she was there. I do think the emotion he should was as much from knowing he blew the performance as it was seeing his sister.

edited to change CBS to MSN.

You and my husband are both such conspiracy theorists. He thought the sister was a "plant" also. I think JD is an emotional mess & it's really working against him. The last thing INXS wants is an emotional wreck to join their band. One suicide is enough.

It was a tough song & he spent too much time trying to re-do it. He should have just spent more time trying to do it right.

JD sucked big time and he deserves to be in the bottom 3 with that performance. However he has a fan base that will prbably keep him safe, but he has shown a weakness for later on down the line.

I think the horrible performance may be the best thing that happened to JD. It knocks him down a bit in the eyes of his fellow contestants. Before he was the one on top and they all wanted to top him. His bad night just might take that bullseye off him. It all depends how he handles this back at the house. MB has his hands all over this. It makes JD human. I still believe JD will be there in the end. But now it isn't such a sure thing and makes the show more interesting and gives everyone a chance.

I kept thinking, "Huh. She reminds me of Johnny Fairplay's dead grandmother."

I don't think he threw his performance last night. You could see the stressed look on his face up to, during and after his performance. He psyched himself out.

I noted one of the comments of the house band saying that the problem with J.D. performing the song was that "he doesn't think he can sing it" and that's what was hurting him.

I think with all the repurcussions from his comment and the ways the others are giving him the cold shoulder is affecting his confidence level. I hope he bounces back after this. I think out of all he wants it the most and has the most to benefit from winning, because he's young and can learn a lot with an experienced band like INXS.

That aside, I voted for Ty, MiG, Marty (top performances of the night, in my order) and J.D. (because I'm not ready to abandon him yet).

I think the sister thing was threw in by the show producers to add a different flavor to the show. It was good I must say, whether it's an act by JD that he already or not. At least, it stirs up some discussion and that's what the show producers want from it.

Performance-wise, I think he just hit an all-time low. From the camera shots of him, he portrayed to be nervous and so lack of self confidence.

I still think he's in the running as long as he can still prove it with another convincing performance to score his points back from INXS and then the audience.

JD isn't my favorite. He's very cocky and seems to be so full of himself. I don't know about the sister thing...I doubt it was a plant, but I think it was a horribly poor excuse for his screwing the song up and whatnot.

newdrew136 ! You and I must be evil twins! I had that exact thought. He knew he couldn't sing it and came up with a plot that might give him a reason to crack! I think it was contrived. What made me happy is that the band and Dave N did not seem to be really hood winked by it. He may last a while longer but what he truly showed us last night is that if he can't rearrange a song to suit his voice , he sometimes can't sing it and I don't think INXS is gonna want him to rearrange all their music.

i think the bad performance and the sister are convenient ways of showing that he's only human and taking him down a notch. i don't think any of the other performers were impressed with his attempt at being humble. he's cocky, but for some reason didn't think he could sing that song--even though he tried so hard to get it.

that said, i still like him and think he looks--and sounds--like the best fit. i like jordis too, but i just don't see her with inxs.

It was a case of smoke and mirrors for J.D last night. He picked a song he thought was great, taking it from jordis who could have sang the hell out of it,then relized after practice that he
DID NOT have the range to sing it, and tried to back-peddle out.
Maybe if he hadn't been so cocky, someone could have helped him out.(jordis had a devilish look when she realized he was in trouble). SO performance night arrives & J.D has to start the song so low he sounds like Lurch from the adams family, he points the mic at the audience when he can't reach a note, &
last few high notes entertains us with acting emotional when seeing sister in audience(wink wink)so it doesn't look so bad.
Guess what , he didn't fool anybody, especially dave(with a good job to the band & nothing for J.D)
I think this will be good for him, take him down a few pegs. I don't wish him ill, just could do without the act, & he needs to think through his song choice very quickly in future.

His is lucky he has built a fan base in previous weeks. He deserved to be in the bottom 3.
